Crutches were a bitch and a half, but this wasn’t really news to Misaki. It wasn’t the first time she’d been on them and probably wouldn’t be the last. Missions came with a certain amount of risk, after all, and while she would have love to not have been bitten by some bitchy shark doppelganger, that is exactly what had occurred. Thankfully the dorms had elevators which made visiting Bang easier. The living rainbow may not have been the best person to visit while still injured, in fact Misaki fully expected that she could be knocked down or picked up and spun around, neither of which seemed particularly desirable but were most likely unavoidable. Whatever, she’d deal with it if it happened. With the calf and ankle of her right leg wrapped tightly in bandages and held at an angle, she very slowly made her way down the hall to the dorm that was unfortunate enough to house Bang Bang. Why? Simple: she needed advice, and Bang Bang was really the only one she could think to get it from. Crushes were hard, and while she’d gone to her and Natuski while the latter had still been present, she hadn’t left feeling all that much enlightened. While they were down one tiny Japanese girl, Misaki still very much needed someone to vent to about her romantic frustrations. At current, Misaki didn’t even know what the hell she was going to do about her rather inconvenient feelings for Dion. She could downplay her crush as much as possible, although she knew damn well that she was usually a bit more flustered around her Weapon, and only the densest of people wouldn’t notice how her voice was just a bit shriller and unsure when he was around now. Misaki was making herself nervous, the rather obnoxious beating of her own heart just at the sight of him was threatening to give her hearing loss, or at least she thought so. She couldn’t very well speak to Dion about such things. For one, there was the risk that even if she spoke hypothetically that he would figure it out. Add in that the Demon Spear was currently dealing with his own shit after the incident with that creature showing up at Shibusen combined with Misaki not knowing what to do to even begin to make him feel even a little bit better, and it was plainly obvious that tensions were just a little bit high back at the Saito and Key household. The tiny Japanese girl wanted to help her Weapon, she really did, but she didn’t know how and her love for him was only making her feel worse about not knowing how to help him. Going to see Bang was something that she hoped would be therapeutic for her almost, although she doubted that would happen. It was Bang, she was high energy almost all the time, all sunshine and unstable explosives. Still, it would help her to talk to someone rather than sitting in her room and cuddling up with Kiku. At least the cat didn’t seem to mind all the extra affection Misaki was giving her lately. Holding the feline in her arms was pretty much the only thing that seemed to help her calm down back at the apartment, frustrations of moving about with crutches an Dion having to carry her up to school for now notwithstanding. Reaching the Demon Rocket Launcher’s door, Misaki took a deep breath and knocked three times with a steady hand, leaning a bit on her crutches. She righted herself quickly, though. No need to fall over before Bang even opened the door.

Bang had made the rash decision that today would be the day that she would change her hair up. The ponytails where fun but Bang was a bit older now and needed a looked that more reflected her age. She had got up early and spent most of the day striping her hair of all color. For about an hour after that she danced around her room as a platinum blond with very long her and wondered just how freaked out all her friends would be if she ran around like this for a few days but that feeling quickly passed. She was now onto the next stage of re-dying her hair. Bang looked in the mirror and laughed at herself. She had so much tin foil that it looked like she was trying to keep aliens out of her head but it was needed to keep all the colors from mixing in a way she didn’t want. After that Bang moved over to her bed and moved her skunk to the side. Skittle’s had gotten so big and she had even got pet fur dye for him and gaveling him a hot pink stripe down his back. Bang was relaxing when she heard a knock on her door. Leaping from her bed she ran over and flung to door open. It was Misaki! Bang was about to pick the girl up in a bear hug but saw her crutches and stopped about a few inches from her. ”MISAKI HOLY HELL WHAT HAPPENED!? DID YOU GET INTO A FIGHT WITH YOUR VESPA AND LOSE? I knew this day would come!”But up on close look at her friend face she knew what the real problem was and Bang calmed herself for a moment looking down at her. She reached out placing a hand on her back slowly guiding her into the room and over to her bed to sit down. As soon as she did Misaki had a skunk in her lap. ”Wait a sec don’t tell me girl this isn’t about your leg at all is it? You are having problems with Dion again aren’t you? Okay tell Mama Bang Bang what’s on your mind and… Don’t mind the hair I am just changing it up need a new look you know.”Bang walked over pulling her chair to the side of the bed and spinning it around so she could rest her arms on the back of it while still facing Misaki. This poor girl just had so many problems with telling someone her feelings but Bang didn’t mind that she was coming to her for help and while most of the time she gave awful advice she wouldn’t this time. This time was very different.

The hurried sound of footsteps signaled to the tiny Japanese girl that her friend was indeed home. Letting out a sigh of relief, it was at least good to know she wouldn’t have to hobble her happy ass back to the elevator and then back to the apartment to continue hiding her in her room with Kiku. Misaki did lean backwards a bit, though, as the door was thrown open. She could see the rainbow wanted to pick her up and immediately protested,
“Bang wait stop, I’m-“
Okay never mind, she’d noticed already. While Bang’s theory was indeed humorous and, to be fair, more than likely to happen at some point, it was very much false. Misaki rolled her eyes,
“Please, if I’d crashed I’d be way worse for wear. I got into it a little more than anticipated with the Kishin Egg on the last mission Dion and I took, bitch had some nasty chompers on her. Occupational hazard, I’ll be struttin’ my stuff again in another couple of weeks, don’t you worry!”
Okay, s she wouldn’t so much strut as limp. She’d need to get back to walking without hobbling along before she could strut, but Misaki planned to work on that as much as she could once the crutches had been retired. She was only thankful Bang had possessed that self-control to keep herself from picking her up and possibly hitting her leg against the door frame spinning her around. It was a fanciful idea to some, but Misaki wouldn’t put it past her, particularly not with the tinfoil currently in Bang’s hair. What, was she into aliens now? The tiny Japanese girl raised an eye brow but didn’t question it. This was Bang Bang after all.
Bang did help her into the room, which Misaki appreciated. Navigating through doors on crutches was surprisingly difficult and very much a pain in the ass should there be no decent human beings around to hold them open for her. She was again exceedingly thankful for Dion and his willingness to carry her up the Shibusen stairs, otherwise she’d not have been attending class for some time and that would not have gone over well with her parents, injuries notwithstanding. The tiny Japanese girl plopped down on Bang’s bed and leaned her crutches against the frame, still holding her leg as a bit of an angle. She’d love to let it rest, but any pressure at all sent her wounded muscles aching. They didn’t hurt as much as they had initially, not anymore. This she was glad for as she’d spent the first few days of her recovery so doped up on painkillers that all she’d been able to do was sleep and lapse into giggle fits. Thankfully that part was over and Misaki was now perfectly coherent once more.
Was she that obvious or did Bang just know everything? Misaki could swear her friend had some sort of psychic ability to detect the romantic woes of others, but she couldn’t exactly deny it. She’d hit the nail right on the head, and so she nodded a bit grimly, her gaze downcast. Where the hell did she even start? There had to be a thousand ideas swarming around in her head. The skunk on her lap and Bang’s comment on the foil in her hair did help her though. A toned down version of her wicked grin appeared as she snickered,
“So that’s what you’re doing! I thought you were fixing to go alien hunting or something. I mean we are in Nevada.”
The hair thing did make much more sense. Misaki was a bit excited truth be told. Bang had the pigtails for as long as she’d known her, it’d be interesting to see what she was up to now with her hair, but the tiny Japanese girl was sure it was something crazy. But back to business. Her grin wavered a little bit. She patted the skunk on the head before scratching him gently behind the ears. He’d gotten so big! Skittles had been so much smaller the last time she’d visited, but she supposed he’d only been a baby then. Eventually Misaki spoke,
“I don’t even know where to start, honestly, probably with the fact that I’m totally inept at dealing with things like this. I mean it’s not like I’ve never been in love before, I’ve got two exes under my belt god damn it! It’s just…I’ve never been the one with the crush. I’m the one that gets asked out having no clue that the person asking me has been crushing on me from afar. I’ve never been the one falling head over heels before, and now I have no clue how to deal with that. It doesn’t help that Dion and I are having are own issues right now either. I never thought I’d say it but we’re kind of distant right now. It bothers me.”
The latter couldn’t have been more true. Misaki and Dion at their best were like brain twins. They thought the same things and stirred up mischief together. Their training sessions had always gone great, even their resonance hadn’t been too difficult safe for the miniature explosion, but they’d remedied that quickly enough. They’d always been close. Now that she was injured and pining after him and Dion was dealing with his own inner turmoil, they seemed far away, and Misaki didn’t like that. Not at all.

Bang watched her friend carful as she sat down on her bed making sure her leg didn’t bump into anything. She knew from when she was younger just how much that could hurt even hitting it just slightly. Oh so it was a spat with a kishen egg that ended her up on the crutches well that made a little more sense than the Vespa, but Bang knew one day that it would happen with the way that girl drove that thing. Bang laughed at Misaki’s comment about her hair and shock her at that.
”Pfftt no I ant doing that. I might be crazy but I’m not that crazy to go hunting for something like aliens.”
When Bang say her smile waver the one of her face did as well. Here it comes what Misaki really came here for. Bang gave her a small smile to show she was listening and let the girl talk. The sunk didn’t move much on her lap more than likely it had fallen back asleep and at the end of her little rant Bang nodded her head very sage like.
”Just because you have two exes under your belt Misaki doesn’t mean you really loved them.”
Bang started out as she leaned forward on her back of the chair now resting her head on her folded arms.
”Girl you got it baaaad~”
She snickered at that and leaned back up in the chair grasping at the back of it leaning the chair back. If she wasn’t careful and lost her balance she would go falling to the floor but it helped that she had both feet on the ground.
”Bubala listen to me and while I might be the best at giving relationship advice I will try. I can tell just from the little you have said to me and from what I have seen between you and Dion that you’re feeling are honest and true. Love is a fickle thing that can strike the heart at any moment and girl it has gotten you bad. I know it feels hard right now because you two are going through some thing and the fact that like you said you just aren’t used to this but it will pass. Whatever you and Dion are going through it will pass you just have to give it time and I can bet you money that when it does you two will be better off. Misaki you can’t let these feeling torcher you, you have to embrace them and you have to let Dion know or it will just eat you up and will only cause you two to grow farther apart. And before your say anything I know for a fact that Dion likes you as well. I might be a crazy girl that runs around and does dumb thing but I am a people person at heart and I know people. You just might have to be the brave one and say it.”

Okay so Bang wasn’t alien hunting, that was a plus. The last thing Misaki needed was to be thrown into an impromptu adventure where she had to be launched into space to save her abducted friend. Then again knowing Bang she’d probably find a way to take over and become the new alien queen and take over the planet. She honestly wouldn’t have been surprised, but that was obviously now out of the question. Skittles apparently was quite bored of Misaki’s antics and seemed to be asleep. The tiny Japanese girl continued to gently stoke him behind the ears regardless. She couldn’t help it, he was just so soft, plus it did calm her some.
Loathe as she was to admit it, Bang had a point. Plus to be fair, Misaki’s exes weren’t all that much to write home about. The first had been nice enough, a kid named Hibiki. That had lasted about two weeks, a whirlwind of study sessions and holding hands in the hallway before they broke up because she scored higher than him during standardized testing week. That was fourteen year olds for you, though. The other had been an exchange student named Kaspar. They lasted much longer, dating six months and breaking up shortly before Misaki had run off to Nevada to enroll in Shibusen. That had been the main reason for the break up, but there was also the fact that her parents still had a bit of a say in who she associated with, and the German exchange student had most definitely rubbed them the wrong way. She’d care for them both, and she may had loved Kaspar, but looking back neither of them got to her like Dion did. She’d noticed Dion. She didn’t notice either of the others until they came to her.
At Bang’s claim that she had it bad, all Misaki could really do was give a wry smile and a bit of a nod,
“Yeah. I guess I do, eh?”
Misaki knew she was right. The tiny Japanese girl was head over heels for her Weapon, but that wasn’t even all that was bothering her anymore. The recent tension between them was driving her nuts and making her second guess herself all over the place. With those two things combined, Misaki was all but a ghost of what she would have normally been: bright, confident, and ready to kick all kinds of ass. Nowadays she hid in her room and talked to Kiku for the most part; eating her stress in the form of mochi and ohagi should the mood strike her. Still, what Bang said next definitely shocked her.
For one, Bang was giving her advice that actually spoke to her. Misaki finally bothered making eye contact, though she still looked a bit sullen. The dark circles under her eyes probably didn’t help with that, although recently she’d only been staying awake because the bandages on her leg itched and kept her up, not because she was crying over her feelings. She’d gotten past that at least. Bang was right in part that this would most likely pass. She and Dion both just needed something, a little bit of a boost, and they’d be back to their normal, insane selves.
On the other hand, there was no fucking way she was about to tell Dion her feelings. Not at this point. And she was very quick to tell her friend as much,
“I don’t think that’s a good idea. Don’t get me wrong, it’s something I’ve thought about doing, and I may build up the courage to tell him at a certain point in time. But I don’t think right now is a good time. I’ve got a busted up leg and have all this stupid inner turmoil messing with my head and twisting all my thoughts around, and then after the whole thing with that stupid bird and its stupid screaming madness Dion’s been in a mood and I can’t seem to shake him out of it no matter what I say.”
Misaki sighed and slumped a little, looking back down at the skunk in her lap,
“We both need something, but I don’t think asking him to hold my heart in his hands would be the best idea right now.”
The tiny Japanese girl hunched her shoulders a bit and suddenly chuckled, shaking her head and gazing off to the side,
“It’s funny. If we hadn’t gone to the Snow Ball none of this may even be happening. I may have never reali-“
Something Bang had said hit her at the moment and she stopped dead mid sentence, looking back at her momentarily tinfoiled friend with a look on her face that spoke of confusion and suspicion alike,
“Wait, you said you knew for a fact Dion feels the same way about me. How the hell could you possibly know that, let alone be so sure? Did you put cameras in our apartment or something? Does he have a diary? Did you read his diary?”

As Misaki petted the skunk he slowly opened his eyes looking up at her. He blinked a few times and moved around in her lap so that he was in more comfortable position as he curdled up onto a ball. Bang’s eyes glanced down for a moment at her pet skunk and she gave a little smile but her attention was soon back on her distraught friend. Bang cocked her head to the side now as she listen to Misaki go on her little rant. Raising an eyebrow she didn’t take her eyes off her best friend for a moment.
”Misaki I think this would have happened at some point let be honest here. The snow ball only made things move faster. The heart knows what it wants and I am damn sure even if you didn’t go to that dance you would be here in my room at some point for the same thing. Don’t try and fool yourself girl you will only make it worse for you and as for that bird thing… Well knowing my luck that was the day I passed out on a park bench and missed the whole damn thing. Had some freaky ass dreams but what ever happened to Dion he will need to get over it and he might need to do it in his own guy way. Whatever the hell that means.”
Bang rolled her eyes at that. True she had no idea what he was going through right now seeing as she missed the whole thing with the bird and only heard about it later. Figures her body would make her sleep on a day like that. Oh the things she may have done if she had seen that thing but that wasn’t why Misaki was here so Bang flipped her brain back onto the problem at hand.
”I understand if you have reservation about tell him now if he is being all pissy pants about the bird thing. Just give him time I’m sure he will get over it. We all have to get over our shit at some point right? And as for me knowing~”
Now for the first time since Bang had started her advice a grin passed over her face. It was the same normal I am about to get into trouble grin that she got all the time. Misaki knew it all to well.
”Yes I have cameras all over your guys place. How well would I know that you two are home and know when to brake in and move shit around while you are gone at school or on a mission.”
Bang waited for a couple of second to let that skin in and let her friend freak out for a bit. The mood really needed to be lightened at this point. She finely started laughing grasping at the back of the chair that was in front of her as she leaned back.
”Just kidding! I don’t have cameras in your place, maybe. Misaki I’m a people person. I know people it’s just something I can pick up on. I have no idea how to explain it but I know~ Don’t you worry your pretty little head I just know~”
She gave Misaki wink now leaning forward again on the chair.

Misaki sighed and looked back down at the skunk in her lap. She would have no way of knowing whether she was right or not on that note. The Snow Ball and the kiss incident involved in this case had been what made the tiny Japanese girl realize just what sort of feelings she held for he partner. Whether or not she would have realized anyway she would never know. She’d like to think she wouldn’t have or at least that she would have gone about it in a more graceful fashion. But that didn’t matter. Thinking about what may have happened wouldn’t do her any good. She needed to think in present and quite possibly future tense if she was going to get through these bouts of unavoidable emotion that kept dragging her down lately.
Bang did have a definite point about Dion, though. Misaki wanted to help him, desperately so. But nothing she said seemed to reach him and she wasn’t about t confront him about it since that would like only result in unneeded conflict for the both of them. She knew he would likely need to work through whatever he was feeling on his own time, but in a way Misaki hated that. They were partners, they were supposed to work together. This was a time and circumstance where that seemed impossible, and the Meister had never felt more helpless knowing in the back f her mind that there was absolutely nothing she could do to help her Weapon through the difficulties he was facing. He wouldn’t let her, it wasn’t her fault, but she still felt like nothing but dead weight, especially with her recent injury.
Lifting her gaze back up to look at Bang as she continued to speak, Misaki pursed her lips just enough so that they formed a thin line on her face. Her worry showed but only because she let it. She tried to tone it down around Dion as much as possible, not wanting to guilt him or make him feel worse just because she was anxious over variables she couldn’t control. She needed to stop thinking about it so much. Her chest felt tight and her face felt hot. Was she blushing again? She couldn’t tell but she didn’t care at the moment. Hanging her head at her last comment, Misaki sighed,
“You’re right. I’m just going to have to let him be for a while, hard as that’s going to be for me.”
Hard was an understatement, more like torturous. Wait, what did she just say about cameras? Misaki jolted, sitting straight up and staring at her friend,
“W-what? You can’t be serious!”
Misaki said this a bit too adamantly both ankles hitting against the bed frame and her bad leg getting jostled as a result. This earned a sharp intake of breath from Misaki which she held to keep any sort of pained sound down to a simple pathetic whine as she gradually let the breath leave her. Pins and needles all along her calf muscle, that was what she felt. Not nearly as bad as it had been after she and Dion had just returned, but still enough to sting terribly. Taking a few deep breaths, it all culminated in a sigh of relief as Bang announced she was actually kidding. Misaki held her face in her hands,
“Fuck, Bang, you’re gonna give me a heart attack one of these days.”
Misaki wanted to believe Bang with all her heart, but that fear that her best friend could possibly be wrong remained and made her doubt. That subtle worry that Dion did not feel as strongly for her as she did for him struck her each and every time she laid eyes on him. It was driving her nuts, and the harder she tried to ignore it, the more it seemed to occupy her thoughts. It kept her from sleep and was the cause of many a moment where the Japanese girl found herself curled up in a ball and shaking for no real reason at all. The distance between them with her recent injury and Dion recent visit to the infirmary only added to her anxiety.
But she couldn’t let that rule her. If she did, she would stop moving, and there was nowhere to go but forward that was healthy. A small smile pulled at her lips and Misaki leaned forward and wrapped her arms around her friend, resting her head on Bang’s shoulder and sighing,
“I really appreciate you talking to me about this, Bang. I really do feel a bit better just being able to get it off my chest. I can’t exactly talk to Dion about it, and I sure as hell am not about to ask my siblings for advice.”

Bang snickered now at Misaki’s reaction to her comment about the cameras. She winked at her tiny Japanese friend.
”If I give you a heart attack it’s only out of love that I do it~”
A kind smiled passed over her face now as she listen to Misaki’s words of thanks. It wasn’t often she heard this from her friends most of the time it was just GOD DAMN IT BANG and she was totally fine with that as well. But this time was very different from most days for the rocket launcher. Misaki was really in a slump right now and Bang knew when she needed to be a ball of crazy and when she needed to be a friend. Bang now reached out placing her hand on Misaki’s shoulder.
”Hey what are friends for? I wouldn’t be a very good person if I didn’t listen to my friends once and a while. Ya know you can always come to me with your problems because you know I will tell you if you should honestly worry about them or not. Everything will be fine bubala. Now how’s about you help me get all this tin foil out of my hair and help me cut it?!”
Bang got up and moved closer to Misaki picking the sleeping skunk off of her and placing it down on her bed. She then offered her hand out to help the injured girl up off her bed handing her churches to her as well. Bang picked up a pair of scissors from her desk and motion for Misaki to fallow her to the bathroom. As soon as Bang got in there she started to pull the tin foil out of her slowly but surly revealing her new colors.
”See as you still have my attention is there anything else you would like to get off your chest as well? Like I don’t know your bra~”
Bang grinned at Misaki remembering back to not that long when Bang had stolen her bra and ran around Dion’s room with it. Oh that was such a fun night they really needed to hang out again but maybe after Dion was himself again.

Bang seemed to be far wiser than Misaki gave her credit for, she had to admit that. She never would have expected it coming from a girl who ran around Death City in various states of undress and broke into song at the drop of a hat. Crazy though she may be, Misaki couldn’t deny that Bang Bang was in all likelihood her best friend, especially after this. The tiny Japanese girl didn’t spill her guts to anyone, but here she was word vomiting to the living rainbow of Shibusen. She felt slightly better, but still not quite right. Something was still bugging her, but she held her tongue.
The tiny Japanese girl released Bang from her grip and tilted her head at the suggestion,
“I guess I can, but I’m warning you now I know nothing about the ins and outs of styling hair.”
The skunk was removed from her lap and Bang was even so gracious as to hold her crutches while she got up. The help was appreciated which Misaki conveyed in a small crooked smile. It seemed to be appearing more and more lately rather than just her usual wicked grin. The tiny Japanese girl got to her feet slower than she would have liked. It was a chore to take care not to bump her bad leg rather than just leap right into action like she usually did. Once she was up, she took her crutches from the technicolor girl and followed her to the bathroom.
Not wanting to crowd the space, Misaki settled for leaning slightly against the doorframe. She watched Bang pull the tinfoil from her hair was still somehow struck by the fact that colors were the result. Hair dying wasn’t something Misaki could exactly accomplish easily. With her hair she would have to bleach it six ways to Sunday and then dye it again for color and she just didn’t want to deal with that. Besides, she had so many colored wigs from cosplays she’d done that if she really wanted to be a different color for a day or two, all she’d have to do is put one on. Still, the process mystified her a bit and it was cool to watch.
At the bra comment, Misaki felt a blush rise to her face in an instant. Shooting a glare towards her friend, she scowled and that was the end of it. She’d still get Bang back for that, but maybe once she wasn’t healing and heartsick all at once. Misaki needed to properly balance herself before she got back to her normal level of kickass. There was, however, something that was bothering her. It weighed on her mind even more then Dion’s moodiness and her aching heart did. The madness she’d succumbed to for however brief a time period haunted her. What it had made her feel downright scared her, and Misaki wasn’t accustomed at all to being scared of anything. Knowing the scowl on her face had faded to one that spoke more of her inner turmoil, Misaki sighed but didn’t look at Bang save for in the mirror,
“Technically yes, but I don’t know if it’ll make me feel better.”
But there was only one way to find out, and who else could she tell but Bang? Certainly not Dion. It would only add to his current worries, and she didn’t want him fussing over her in addition to already being completely out of sorts. Shifting her weight so she was leaning more with her shoulder on the doorframe than on her good leg, Misaki closed her eyes and leaned her head to one side for a moment,
“When that scream hit the noise alone was enough to damn near knock me down. I don’t know if that made me lose my head or what, but the madness that hung off the sound waves got to me and…I don’t know, it’s just really freaked me out. I did get myself out of it, but only because I knocked my head as hard as I could against the nearest wall, and even then I still heard it whispering to me until the screaming stopped. It wasn’t long, but the things it made me think and feel weren’t me at all. I don’t think I’ve ever felt so furious in my entire life; it was like there was fire in my blood. I literally saw red, everything was tinted to look that way and all I wanted to do was hurt and destroy.”
She opened her eyes and glanced at herself in the mirror. Damn did she ever look a mess. Averting her eyes to look at the new colors in Bang’s hair instead, Misaki chuckled to herself and shook her head,
“You know me, I’ll talk shit but if I ever hit anyone it’s either in sparring or they were asking for it to begin with. I’m not mean; it’s not in me to needlessly hurt someone just to watch them bleed. But I guess that’s what madness does, right? Turns you into something you’re not?”

Bang had stuck her head under the skin and began to wash out the extra color in her hair. Almost instantly the skin went from white to the various colors that Bang had put in her hair. While she was rinsing her head she was still listening very carefully to Misaki. Bang pulled her now soaking eat head out from under the faucet and grabbed a towel she already had in there to dray her hair off a bit. She looked over at Misaki as the rubbed the towel over her head and pulled it down around her shoulders. Her hair was now a half dry tangled colorful mess. She pushed some hair out of her face now as she picked up her brush and started brushing her hair out.
”I know what you mean. I passed out on a park bench when all that was going down and I had a freaky dream about pink elephants trying to dance with me but they had knives for hands. It was so fucked up.”
She gave a laugh now looking back at her friend hoping that would calm her nerves but that was only half of the truth. Bang’s face suddenly feel as she thought about what had really happened to her that day. She slowly put the brush down when she tamed the madness that was her hair at the moment. She gave a bit of a sigh and turned around to face Misaki as she leaned on the skin placing one hand there.
”Okay maybe it’s my turn to tell you something now. That was only half of what really happened but before I tell you what happened I need to tell you something else. I always find it funny that when I meet new people and introduce myself to them as Bang Bang they never question it or at least they don’t out loud. I have meet a lot of people at this school and I have only every given them that name. Even you and Dion don’t know my real name and you never once asked for it and for that I am thankful but now after all this… It’s time you knew about my name and about me truly…”
Bang gave another sigh hating that she had to be so serious right now but what else could she do at the moment? It was time for Misaki to know she was one of Bang best friends and one of the few people that she honestly and truly trusted.
”Misaki my real name is Rockelle, Rockelle Launchè. I mean it is pretty cool I guess because it does kind of sound like rocket launcher but that’s not really what I am getting at here. Before I came to this school I threw away that name and everything it stood for. In fact I went so far as to take that person who was Rockelle and lock her away in my soul so that I may never become her again… But when the madness hit the other day things got pretty bonkers in my soul. After that little dream I head I woke up to a woman’s voice in my head but it wasn’t Rockelle’s… It was someone new… She was mocking me and calling me a fool for locking a part of my soul away… She was awful an mean and was telling me I should just do everyone a big favor and… and… End my life…”
At this Bang’s face changed again as she looked at herself in the mirror. Tears where starting to form in her eyes now as she slowly lowered herself to the floor. Bang hung her head in shame now as she looked down at the ground making sure not to let Misaki see her sorrow.
”She kept telling me this and for a moment in all that madness I really thought about doing it… I am such a disappointment to my parents I am not the child they wanted and I am nothing but a handful for my friends… She kept saying it over and over again I honestly was going to do it. I was going to fly up the highest point I could find and jump Misaki… But then I heard Rockelle calling to me in the back of my head. She is the sane and calm part of me you see. That is why I am always over the top and crazy but hearing her calling out to me and telling me how much I would be missed that is what brought me back… So as much as I hate the idea of her and what she means to me I am thankful that she is still a part of me… Madness affects us all so differently so I know what you mean by you were scared. I was scared too scared I was going to do something dumb…”
Bang stood up again whipping the tears away from her eyes as she gave a little sniffle. She turned back to the mirror again and slowly smiled as she picked up the secures and pulled her bangs down and cut them. She began just randomly cutting off hunk of hair till she finely got a look she liked. She then turned back to Misaki holding the secures out to her.
”What do you think? If you think something needs to be cut off go for it. You know how much I love to look like an odd ball.”

Misaki grinned a little at Bang’s recount of pink elephants and shook her head. Yeah, that sounded like Bang alright, although the knives did sound a bit dark for her. Even if only mildly, it was good to know that her friend’s own encounter with madness had worried her a bit too, albeit in a different way. The grin didn’t last long though. With the tiny Japanese girl seemingly unable to make eye contact, her gaze was glued only to the Bang reflected in the mirror, an uncharacteristically bitter look upon her face. Damn it, she wished she could just shove all of her feelings away from her or bury them somewhere under the usual layers of excitement and mischief that she seemed incapable of stirring up anymore.
The bitterness lessened and was diluted with a slight concern as Bang began to speak again. Misaki shifted her weight mostly into her shoulder so she was fully leaning against the doorframe, trying to give her one good foot a bit of a break. Damn if crutches weren’t a bitch and a half but at least she was healing. As Misaki listened, her head tilted a bit, sparing glances at Bang that weren’t just in the mirror. She supposed it was a bit strange that people never questioned her introductions, but Misaki had honestly thought it fitting. If a walking, talking rainbow appeared and told you their name was Bang Bang, then who the hell was she to tell her otherwise? Given her track record, the tiny Japanese girl was honestly a bit surprised to hear that it wasn’t her real name, and the fact that Bang was going to tell of her real one added a slight unease to that surprise. Misaki was glad that Bang trusted her that much, but at the moment the tiny Japanese girl could hardly think of herself as worthy.
The tiny Japanese girl managed to tear her eyes from the mirror and actually look at Bang, colorful half-wet hair and all. The name that was given to her made her smile just a tiny bit. Rockelle. Yup, that sounded pretty befitting for a rocket launcher just as Bang said. The more her friend spoke, though, the more she began to worry. Why had she locked Rockelle away? What was so bad about her or where she came from that had made her do that? Misaki kept her mouth shut for the moment, pursing her lips just to be sure and keeping silent as her friend continued. Having been holding her head at an angle to convey her own curiosity, Misaki straightened when the mention of Bang becoming suicidal over the madness was revealed to her. It felt like she’d stuck a fork in a toaster and then a tightness in her chest had her looking to the mirror again. Of all the people she had thought would never experience that feeling, it would be Bang, yet here she was with tears forming in her eyes. Seeing her lower herself to the floor, Misaki managed to look at her again and mumbling her name softly in her stunned state, wanting to say something but not being able to find the right words,
“Bang…”
As she kept talking, Misaki could identify at least at Bang’s words about her parents. Oh, she certainly knew how that went. Misaki knew her parents were more than displeased with her general state of being. She could only imagine what Bang’s parents were like with her being so, well, herself. There was a lump forming in her throat as she listened, she began breathing slowly to try and make it go away but it didn’t work. The tiny Japanese girl knew little of Rockelle and that would likely be the case forever given what Bang had told her, but damn if she wasn’t grateful to her. She’d brought Bang back and kept her alive. Looking back on it, Misaki tried to picture that day ending differently, tried to imagine herself with Dion in the infirmary and handling the news that Bang was-no, oh no. That would have broken her. She’d been a bundle of fracturing glass that day, and if Bang hadn’t made it through she knew, could feel, that she would have shattered. The tears forming in her own eyes now were a testament to that.
Leaning her crutches against the doorframe, Misaki very carefully lowered herself to the ground. Her bad leg protested and she mentally told it to shut the hell up. Scooting over to her friend, Misaki a tear escape and finally run down her cheek right as she hugged her friend perhaps a bit tighter than she’d meant to, her head resting against her shoulder. Her voice was softer than she’d expected, but then at any greater volume it would have shook,
“I know that it’s passed but I don’t care, I’m going to tell you anyway. Yeah, you can be a handful sometimes, but you know what? I don’t care. Because as much as a pain in the ass you can be, you are also the single most kind person that I know. I have never in my life met someone so inherently good, and I’ve never run into anyone so unashamed to be themselves and damn it, sometimes I’m even jealous of you for that. But don’t ever think like that again, okay? Madness or not. You’re a little on the crazy side, yeah, but so am I and so is Dion and everyone else at Shibusen, I’m pretty sure, but that’s what makes us great. You’re my best friend, Bang, and I love you and I wouldn’t have you any other way.”
Sniffling, Misaki released Bang from her grip and wiped her eyes. As Bang stood, so did she, albeit a bit precariously, leaning on the sink as she reached for her crutches. Damn if she wouldn’t be anything but ecstatic when she could walk without them again. Wiping her eyes, she threw her friend a smile, the real one the pulled up just a bit more at the right corner of her lips than the left. Watching her snip at her hair with the scissors, Misaki tilted her head and then blinked in surprise when she handed the scissors out to her. She wanted Misaki to cut her hair? Moreover, she trusted her to cut her hair? Trying to control the overwhelming feeling of friendship and trust that seemed to be swelling inside of her chest, Misaki tentatively took the scissors and hobbled over to Bang,
“Alright, but you know I’m know stylist. I may style my wigs for cosplay but that is entirely different let me tell you.”
Entirely different because it ten required borderline abusing the fake synthetic hair in order to get it to cooperate, but those could be stories she could tell Bang another time. Misaki raised an eyebrow, appeared pensive for just a moment, and then began carefully cutting. She had something in mind, it was all just a matter now of whether or not she could actually make it happen. Slowly but surely pieces of hair fell away, one side becoming cut shorter while the other ran long, creating a sort of gradual curtain affect. Somewhere along the line, Misaki started to hum, a small smile playing on her lips. Strange, after all the emotional upset and bleeding hearts on the floor, she couldn’t remember having become so relaxed in some time.
At last, the tiny Japanese girl placed her hands on Bang’s shoulder and blinked at her from the mirror, looking a bit apprehensive if only because she was nervous of her friend’s opinion,
“I think that’s about it. What do you think?”

Bang was smiling in the mirror as she watched parts of her long hair get cut away. She was thinking about everything that Misaki just said a few moments ago and yeah she was a handful but having friends like Misaki and Dion made it all worth it for her. She only played pranks on them because she knew they could take her crazy jokes and send them right back at her. It filled her heart with joy to know that even if the madness had gotten to her in that moment Misaki was here now telling her everything she needed to hear.
A huge smile formed on her face as she looked into the mirror at her new haircut. She ran her hands threw it a few times and gave a laugh. Did her friend know her or what? Bang turned around and gave Misaki a hug but made sure not to knock her crutches away.
”Oh I love it!! It’s perfect Misaki!! You know me so well~”
She gave the other girl a kiss on the cheek and pulled back grinning at her. Her eyes soften for a moment as she reached up and pushed some of Misaki’s hair back behind her ears.
”And don’t worry about Dion to much okay? I know he is being a butt munch right now but I know everything is going to work out for you too.”
Bang pulled back from her and looked at herself in the mirror for a few moments longer taking in her new hair style. She loved everything about it from how the colors turned out to how Misaki cut it. She pondered for a moment on something and turned back around leaning on the sink.
”Okay I think Imma tell you my other secret but you have to keep this one quite okay? I don’t mind if you like tell Dion my name but you can’t let him know this… My real hair color… I’m a strawberry blond.”
She gave a little laugh at this one now pulling at some of her hair. Bang kept up with dyeing her hair so often no one had ever seen her roots. If someone didn’t know better they might have just thought those colors where Bang’s natural colors but of course they weren’t. Bang was snickering now thinking about her real hair color. She hadn’t really seen in in three years and she was going to keep it that way.
