The sun shone incredibly bright today, giving a cheery disposition to the park. In it, there were birds singing, a squirrel poking in and out of a tree, and people wandering about. There was a person there, however, that was very new to this area. William Grimm. He just recently enrolled into Shibusen, and decided today was a good day to look around the city. And so, he began with the park. He enjoyed a slow breeze on his skin. He liked the relaxed weather here, and he couldn't wait to do other things around here. Hmmm... he thought, I wonder who I'll find as my partner.
Keeping the thought in mind, he pulled a sketchbook out of his pocket. He enjoyed drawing and other artistic pursuits, always keeping a sketchbook and pencil in his pocket. William pushed the pencil to his lip as he thought for a moment. He sketched out a picture of the view in front of him; a bench with a tree behind, granting a cool shade for relaxation. He continued to sketch, adding details such as the pattern on the bench or the small spots of light shining through the tree's branches. He tapped the pencil lightly against his book, and looked at his picture. It was nice, having some shading and detail. He placed the book and pencil back into his pocket, and sat back on the bench. He tapped a finger against his leg thoughtfully, and ran a hand through his hair. He wasn't sure what he was doing, maybe he was waiting for something to happen while looking around with his bright blue eyes...

The park in Death City was nice, a lot better than the parks Catherine Winters had visited back at home. Children's giggles echoed throughout the area, there smiles seemingly brighter than the sun. Cat smiled. The park was nice.
It was a fairly warm day out side so Cat was wearing just a simple pair of jeans and a blue v-neck she had taken a liking to at one of the stores she passed by the other day. The wind blew passed in waves at different times, making the heat of the sun more comfortable. She did wish she had some sunglasses though, she made a mental note to herself to get some the next time she went shopping.
Cat decided to take residence at a table, not too far from the jungle gym. She had been so caught up with her recent enrollment and moving to Death City that she hasn't had a lot of time to write. Writing stories was something she loved to do in her spare time, but now it seemed like her free time was next to none. So, deciding to get some clean air and sunshine as inspiration, she set down her notebook when she mentally slapped herself. She forgot her damn pencil.
Sighing, she looked around, blue eyes landing on a boy just across the park, sketching something in a notebook. Maybe he had a pencil she could borrow. So, with that thought, she got up and walked over to the boy, and asked: "Sorry, but do you have a pencil I could borrow?"

After sketching, Will heard a voice in front of him. "Sorry, but do you have a pencil I could borrow?"
The boy looked up to see a girl. He hadn't usually talked to girls, except for one friend back in Toronto. Yet, she was more tomboyish and enjoyed less than ladylike pursuits. This was a new experience for William. Her short blue hair stood out in the small park, and it was a nice shade of blue, slightly reflecting some light. Her matching blue eyes seemed crystal clear like water, and gave a certain shimmer like waves in the sea. She was standing with a posture that seemed friendly, and felt like a nice person. Remembering her question, Will remembered that she wanted a pencil. Reaching into his pocket, he pulled out a second pencil, and handed it to her. He wondered what kind of things she drew in that sketchbook. He mostly drew characters and some scenery sketches, but he was interested in what kind of things she drew. William looked at his small black sketchbook, and then looked back at the girl. What do I say? he wondered as he thought of ways to talk to this girl. He then said, "No problem at all. My name is William Grimm."
She seems interesting, he thought to himself.
He gestured to the spot next to him on the bench in case she wanted to sit there. "There's a good amount of light here for drawing and stuff. Do you like to draw?"

Cat smiled at the boy as he handed her a pencil. He seemed nice, but also kind of quiet, taking a few moments to respond as he seemed to thinking about what he was going to say. Cat didn't mind, so she just kept smiling as she took the pencil from the boy. Cat was still a little surprised she was even able to get up and talk to this boy, she had some trust issues and even talking to strangers was something a little out of her reach. Maybe it was just the kind of aura he put out. She briefly thought back to a recent lesson that was taught about the souls of people. Maybe this boy just had a good soul. He seemed around her age, maybe younger, with silvery white hair that reminded her of a foggy snowfall, and blue eyes just a little darker than hers.
"Thanks," she said as she twirled the pencil in her hand. It was a nervous habit she adopted when she was young.
That's when the boy introduced himself. William Grimm. Cool name, she thought. He then asked her about drawing. She took a seat next to him on the bench, noting that he was indeed right about the amount of light in the area, before letting out a small laugh.
"No, sorry, I'm terrible at drawing. I like to write stories and stuff," she explained, running a hand through her hair as the other one gripped her notebook. She took a little peek around Will's shoulder to see what he was drawing and stared in awe. "Wow, that's really good!"

The girl sat next to William with surprising ease. He didn't socialize easily, and only had one close friend that was back in Toronto. The others moved away, and so he was really only able to talk with her. Now, he was talking to this girl, and it made him happy. Looking up, Will saw the clouds passing through the sky, passing and then dissipating in the hot sun. He looked at the sun for a moment. That thing is creepy... he thought as he sketched another drawing. This time, it was a girl with a scarf sitting on a swing. He decided to shade this one as well, and it turned out decently. He heard the girl's answer, "No, sorry, I'm terrible at drawing. I like to write stories and stuff,"
William was interested. He always liked stories, and liked to illustrate stories that he tried to write, however they were always missing something. When he heard her compliment his drawings, he blushed slightly and looked to the side. He was happy that someone liked his work, but somehow always felt embarrassed when complimented. He rubbed some hair in between his index finger and thumb, a habit that he developed when he got embarrassed or nervous. Will let go of the hair and then looked back at the girl and replied, "Thank you. Drawing is kinda one of my hobbies. I mostly just sketch or design characters."
The white-haired boy fidgeted slightly with the bottom of his hoodie and then thought of something. "So..." he said as he continued to draw another character, "May I ask what brings you to Death City?"

"I'm a weapon," she answered his question, suddenly realizing how easy the words flew off her tongue. A few weeks ago she would've never even thought about being able to turn into a trident. But here she was now, sitting on a bench in Death City, attending a school for weapons and meisters. It seemed like something directly out of one of her stories, except this time she was the main character.
Cat stared down at her feet, suddenly nervous. What if this guy wasn't accepting towards weapons? This was Death City, a more open minded place, but you never knew what kind of assholes you could bump into. She suddenly regretted saying the words, thinking of the worst possible situations that could stem from telling a random stranger that she was a weapon. It made her chest tighten, making it harder to breathe.
Cat mentally slapped herself, hopefully trying to get out of her panic. This was a kid around her age, an artist, someone who looked just as nervous talking to her and she was to him. He wouldn't say anything bad towards her kind, right? Cat kicked at the soft, green grass under her feet. Her brain was stupid sometimes. And paranoid. Too many times has she felt like she was out of place with people, people she considered her friends, and it always ended up biting her in the butt.
You just need to stop being paranoid and let things happen they way they're going to happen, she told herself calmly. You'll find a partner and a friend.

Sitting on the bench, William was thinking about several things at once. He was worried about this girl he met. He knew that she was amazingly nice, but what if he gave the wrong impression? The boy rubbed his hair between his fingers again and looked away, trying to compose his thoughts. The sun shone on his face, the glare piercing his eyes for a moment. He changed the tilt of his head and fixed the problem. His brain was on overdrive, thinking up and solving questions one after the other. Okay, it's okay. She's perfectly nice and she likes to write stories! She's polite and friendly, and she took the time to actually talk to me. Ah, what am I doing? Did I pause too long? What if--- It was then that William decided to cut off these thoughts. Okay, he thought, Worrying isn't going to get anywhere. You'll find a partner, and she seems like she could be a great friend. Just relax and calm down...
When hearing the words, "I'm a weapon." he was surprised. He was always interested in meeting a weapon, but never expected to meet one so soon. He wondered what kind of weapon she could turn into. He also wondered what she thought about meisters. He had heard about solo weapons that prefer not having a meister. Was she a a solo weapon? Putting that aside, he told himself, You'll find a partner. If not now, later. He smiled and instantly replied, "Really? That's awesome! I'm a meister that just got here. If you don't mind me asking, what kind of weapon are you?"

Cat instantly relaxed at Will's response. He seemed genuinely interested and excited to find out that she was a weapon. And he himself was a meister! Catherine felt her muscles start to relax from the previous tension she had, and let out a breath of air she didn't realized she was holding in. This guy was nice and there was no reason at all to be stressing about this person.
"It's no problem at all!" she smiled at Will. That's when a thought popped into her mind. She remembered something for a lesson she just learned in one of her beginner classes about soul compatibility. A meister can't hold another persons weapon or a weapon who's soul wavelength doesn't match up with their own. Cat was looking for a partner and if Will was able to hold her then that mean they were compatible!
"Mind catching me?" She didn't even wait for his answer as she quickly focused on her soul, the easy rhythm of her heartbeat, and the wind that slowly wafted through her hair. She hasn't transformed into her whole form often, so it took a few seconds of thought before she could turn. Then she felt her whole being shift and twist into a different form, her weapon form. She changed into a trident, three sharp points at the top, silver except for the staff part, which was black. There was a small crest of a serpent embedded at the neck of the trident, and a small sharp point at the end of it. It was just as tall as herself, 5'4, so shorter than Will was. Cat held her breath as she waited for Will to catch her.

The girl seemed to relax as he answered her. He was really interested in what kind of weapon she was, and she seemed interested that he was a meister. After his question he heard a cheery, "It's no problem at all! Mind catching me?"
This question set off fireworks in his head. Was she transforming? he thought. Wind swirled around her, wafting through her hair and shifted some of her clothing. Will's hair waved slightly at the wind, and then remembered what he learned about meister-weapon partnerships. The weapon can be wielded by the meister if they have compatible soul wavelengths. William considered his soul to be relaxed, kind and loyal. He wasn't sure if that was the kind of soul that was compatible with her, but he wanted to try this anyway. From just meeting her, he could tell she was kind and creative, with a cheerful aspect to her. He really thought that she could be his partner. After affirming himself, he looked up and saw her weapon form. A trident... it looks amazing! he thought as he closed his eyes with a smile. He slowed down his breathing and felt his soul's wavelength beating. It was flowing and somewhat flexible, giving a steady beat. The boy reached up and waited for her to fall, he could hear the air cut off of the points in the trident, giving Will a good idea of where it was. He waited, and felt the weapon fall into his hands.
He opened his eyes and looked at her. She was very light, with no balance issues. She felt perfectly comfortable. Gripping it gently, he spun it through his fingers and then swung down with a cut through the air. He was feeling something. His heart was racing, bursting with happiness that he found a compatible weapon. "You are so cool! Your weapon form looks amazing. More importantly, it feels like our souls are matching pretty well."
William looked at the weapon, holding her gently, and with a smile he asked, "Would you like to be my partner?"

She felt a sudden jolt when William caught her. What was this feeling? Was it his soul wavelength? It had to be. There was no other feeling like it. It was warm and it felt safe as it surged through her and Cat hoped that he felt the same way about her soul. She never actually knew what her soul would be like to others. Would they see the good in her or the bad? But from the smile on Will's face she could tell that he was happy too. Cat smiled inwardly, this boy could hold her in her weapon form. It was like Christmas morning.
Her heart almost jumped out of her chest when she heard him ask, "Would you like to be my partner?"
Partner? Cat almost didn't believe it, this boy she just met was asking to be his partner. She thought back to her first day at the academy how people were already pairing off while she stayed to the side, too nervous to approach people, because what if they hurt her? What if they became her partner and in the end she ended up hating them? But she felt no doubts about Will, their soul wavelengths felt perfect together, and in general he seemed like the kind of person someone could be best friends with for the rest of their lives. His soul was kind and relaxed, someone who could bring her out of a bad mood and someone who could match her creativity with his art.
"Y-Yeah, I'd love to be your partner!" She told him with maybe a bit too much enthusiasm. But who could blame her? Finding someone to be your meister is very important and finding someone that suited your wavelength made it ten times better.

William was looking at the girl in her weapon form with a smile. He was nervous on the inside, worrying what might happen if she said no. She was obviously a fantastic weapon with a great personality, and Will wasn't sure what he could offer her. He thought about it, and relaxed. He knew that she was really great. If she wanted to be his partner, that would be amazing. If not, he was sure that someone would come along. However, this girl seemed to be a perfect match for him. He really hoped she would say yes.
Then, he heard amazing words come from her, "Y-Yeah, I'd love to be your partner!"
William couldn't believe what he was hearing. She said yes. He was so happy to have already find such a great partner that was so compatible. He was sure that they would become great friends. She had a creativity to match his artistry, and they both were nice and caring about each other. Will happily thought to himself, This has to be the luckiest day of my life.
Looking up to the sky, Will saw two white clouds, merging together to make a nice big fluffy cloud. The sight made him even happier, though he didn't understand why. Looking at the girl, he happily said, "That's great! I'm sure we'll do great things together...oops, I don't know your name. I guess I probably should have asked, huh?" Will laughed and scratched the back of his head, "Would you like to go get some ice cream?"

Cat decided to turn back into her human form so Will didn't have to keep talking to her weapon form. She focused again on her soul and it was easier this time, morphing back into a human. Her far flushed red at his words. How had she not told him her name? "I'm Catherine Winters but you can call me Cat," she told him, scratching the back of her head in embarrassment.
But the flush crept away when he asked if she wanted to get ice cream with him. "Yeah, that would be awesome. It's such a nice day outside for ice cream," she beamed.
They then started to walk out of the park, the jungle gym and other people as they went in with their day. The streets of Death City as packed with people, taking advantage of the nice weekend day to run errands, hang out with friends, or just soak up the sun. It was a happy sight to see event though Cat wasn't a big fan of crowds. She judged liked to see people enjoy such a nice day like this one. And so what if she was in a good mood? She was going to get ice cream with her new partner!
That's when Cat realized that she new next to nothing about her new partner, besides his name and that he likes to draw. So, she took this opportunity to ask a couple questions. "So, what made you become a Meister? I'm a weapon so I pretty much didn't have a choice, not that I'm complaining it anything."

William looked as the girl shifted back to her human form. He then heard her name. Cat, huh? Cute. he thought as they began walking out of the park.
The two walked out of the park in a leisurely fashion. William was still trying to wrap his head around it. Just like that, in his first week of being in Death City, he already had a partner! It was amazing. He heard from other meisters that it took them awhile before finding the right partner. He felt so lucky to find Cat. He felt a nice breeze on his back and the wind drifted through his hair slightly. The sun shone fiercely on Will, but he didn't mind. Growing up in Toronto, he was used to dealing with hot summers. Walking along, the boy already felt at ease with Cat. She was relaxed, her hair moved slightly with the breeze as well.
Then, he heard Cat's question. What made him decide to become a meister...that was something he hadn't really thought about. Closing his eyes and discussing in his mind, he opened his eyes and then answered, "I just discovered my soul perception one day. I was in class and then I saw blue lights inside of people, each with a different vibration. I talked to my parents and they showed me an ancestry book that showed I was in a meister family from both sides. I talked to my parents about coming to Shibusen, but they wanted me to give at least one more year at a normal school."
He mentally sighed as he thought about school. He was really bored in high school. All it was was projects, assignments, tests, exams and more assignments. There wasn't really anything fun about it. William pondered if Shibusen would actually have interesting subjects. He then looked at Cat and decided to continue the conversation, "So that's my story. With that, I was wondering. What kind of flavor of ice cream you like? I like chocolate chip cookie dough flavor."

Cat listened intently as Will answered her question. Huh, it must have been weird to suddenly see the souls of other people after not being able to for so long. She wondered what it would be like to have soul perception. She had a feeling that it would be odd, like you were always conscious of other people around you and know which ones were good and which ones were bad.
She was pulled out of her thoughts when Will asked her what kind of ice cream was her favorite. "Hmmm, that's actually a pretty tough question," she giggled, putting a finger to her chin in thought. "Probably vanilla because it reminds me of the boardwalk. It's what I would always get when we went on vacations down to the shore," she answered. She thought back to the slow breeze that wafted from the ocean, making the air have a tang of salt that burned the insides of her nose. She remembered the seagulls picking at the food that had fallen on the smooth wood of the boardwalk and the comforting sounds of the waves as they pushed and pulled from the edge of the beach, dragging the sand back to where it came from. Cat was so immersed in the memory that she almost felt all of those things, it was like she was at the beach instead of in Death City. Cat would have to take Will to the beach with her sometime, she was sure that he would enjoy it. There was a lot of beautiful scenery there that could inspire any artist.

"Vanilla. That's cool. I've never actually been to a boardwalk. I grew up in Toronto, so I couldn't really do anything having to do with the beach. Maybe we should go there sometime."
William smiled as they walked down the street. This was very pleasant. Not too loud, not too quiet. Just a calm, relaxing conversation. He thought about what the beach would be like, with the summer sun and the cool ocean breeze. He would most likely be looking forward to the ice cream and the games on the boardwalk. He could swim fine, but it really wasn't his thing. He preferred more intellectual pursuits rather than athletic. He felt that weapon-wielding could be an art, and so he had no problem with learning martial arts. Will moved on to thinking about what Shibusen would be like. He had already met one person, and it went off with a great start. Hopefully he and Cat could form a team with a few other meisters and weapons. As he was thinking about these things, he wasn't really paying attention to the sidewalk, and stumbled slightly. He attempted to play it off by hopping on one foot, but stopped and then continued walking.
As the two stopped at a crosswalk, Will decided to ask another question. He looked at Cat and asked, "I was wondering. Do you like any video games?"
