If you didn’t at some point run into Arlie in the park, than you probably weren’t trying hard enough. The blonde made it a point to run around in the sun and the open space at some point every day, not just for exercise but also because the weather in Nevada was generally ten kinds of gorgeous. Arlie didn’t think it’d rained once since she arrived in Death City, not that she was complaining. Sunshine and white, fluffy clouds was her favorite kind of sky to look up into, and the heat just made her feel more at home. Texas wasn’t exactly cold, after all, at least not usually. While Arlie occasionally wandered about on foot during her little park adventures, today was one of the more commonplace occasion where she had on her roller skates. To be able to glide own the little paths and feel the wind in her hair and the sun on her face was a wonderful feeling that always brought a bright smile to her face, not that she had many other facial expressions. Arlie at any given moment was probably cheerful, excited, and also a little bit doe-eyed, but that was just who she was. As she skated along, she waved to the little kids playing about on one of the small playgrounds that dotted the park before continuing on her way. She missed her little brothers a bit. She may have to give them a call once she got back to the dorms. Spying a bit of shade, Arlie paused for a moment beneath one of the obviously planted trees. She was fairly certain giant trees capable of shade weren’t really common in the desert, but she was grateful that it was there nonetheless. Making sure she wouldn’t roll away, the blonde tilted her feet sideways and bent to make sure her laces were still tied good and tight. She’d taken one spill too many off of her skates from the laces coming undone and tangling around the wheels, the worst one having ended in a bloody nose and a broken end table. That was what she got for skating inside the house, though, and she’d certainly learned her lesson. Arlie stretched her arms over her head, leaning from side to side once before turning tail and skating off in another direction. She wasn’t going too terrible fast, just quickly enough that she was a bit quicker than a brisk walk. When she really got going it was fun, but it was also somewhat dangerous considering it’d be harder to stop and she could also potentially run into somebody on accident. Unfortunately it seemed she was destined to do so anyway as one of her wheels hit a divot in the walking path, sending her stumbling into the person nearest her. Out of instinct and years of roller derby, she latched her arms around the person’s middle and froze, stunned for a moment. Arlie hoped they weren’t mad at her. Nervously, the blonde tilted her head, “Well uh…howdy?”

The park? This wasn't where Nathaniel wanted to be at all. He looked at the small piece of paper that had hastily scrawled directions to the grocery store on it, but he must have gotten something wrong, or else he wouldn't be in the middle of the park. Heaving a deep sigh, he squinted at his spidery handwriting a moment longer before folding the directions up and putting them in his back pocket in his pants. Groceries would have been nice, especially on a beautiful sunny day like this that called for homemade fruit smoothies, but it was hard to be disappointed. A walk in the park was certainly a nice idea, even though it was five times hotter in Nevada than he was used to back home. It never got this hot, even in summer, and the short walk had already made him overheat. Taking off his dark leather jacket, throwing it causally over his shoulder, and pushing up his sleeves, he could feel the difference. Note to self, he thought, buy more tank-tops or short sleeves. At least the hat was keeping some of the sun off, for which he was grateful. He burnt red as a lobster within 10 minutes if he wasn't careful. Note to self, again, buy more sunscreen. As he strolled along, he people watched. There were a few couples dotted about, a family picnicking, some guys throwing a frisbee around. There was even a girl roller skating, although she was taking a break in the shade. She had the right idea. It was entirely too hot out for anything strenuous, at least in Nathaniel's book. When he adjusted to the heat, it wouldn't be as much of an issue, but how long would that take? The warmest place Nathaniel had ever been was Hawaii, and that had only been a week. Not exactly enough time to acclimate to the sunny conditions. And, anyways, he had been 10. Thinking of sunny places was making him feel even warmer. Feeling suddenly constricted in his long pants and button-up, he turned around, making to head back to the dorm and get changed - he didn't own much in the way of shorts, but even a thin t-shirt would be better than all the layers he had on now. As he made his way back, he noticed the skating girl he had passed while she had been sitting was now up and moving towards him. And towards him. (She was very pretty now that he could see her face.) She was a confident skater, because she increased her speed effortlessly. Faster. Not five feet from him, she stumbled - He opened his eyes. Nathaniel didn't remember closing them, but his arms had gone up and his right leg had slid back, as if bracing for impact, although it hadn't happened quite like he had expected. The girl had broke her fall by clinging to his waist. Although he was glad she was unharmed, having a stranger hanging off his middle (cute girl or no) was a bit awkward. "H-howdy," Nathaniel echoed, blinking down at her in surprise. He put his arms down, feeling silly. She wasn't nearly tall enough to pose any danger to his face. Reaching behind him and taking her hands in his so she'd have a support and straightening up, he gave her what he hoped was a reassuring smile. "You okay?"

Well she hadn’t knocked the poor guy over, that was a plus! He didn’t seem mad either. Maybe a little surprised, but then that was to be expected. She doubted having buxom blonde Texan skate into him was a planned part of his day. Still, he was nice enough to hold her hands so she could stand up steadily without rolling off somewhere. Righting herself and getting her balance back, Arlie had to giggle at how silly she probably seemed,
“Oh don’t you worry, darlin’, I’m walkin’ in tall cotton! What about yerself? Are y’alright?”
Confident that she could now stand, Arlie released the light grip she’d kept on the stranger’s hands. Now that she got a good look at him, she did stare for just a moment, blinking up at the tall fellow. Why he must’ve been bigger than Dallas! Arlie had never seen anybody so tall before! She wondered if he played basketball but then realized that just because someone was tall doesn’t mean they played basketball and that she shouldn’t stereotype. With an apologetic grin on her face, Arlie bowed her head slightly and hooked her hands behind her back,
“I sure am sorry for runnin’ into yah. I must’ve hit a hitch in the road ‘r somethin’!”
Yes, the fact that she had stumbled did puzzle Arlie if only because she’d gotten so good at skating that the chances of her falling were next to nothing. She could be speeding along and jump down a flight of stairs, she’d still land on her feet. Granted if she tried that with the Shibusen steps she’d probably break her neck, but the blonde had no intention of trying such a stunt. Yet. It always helped to have goals after all, and the potentially life ending journey down the Shibusen steps on roller skates was one such goal that Arlie planned to accomplish one day. As for now, though, she evidently needed more practice. Maybe she’d try escalators first?
Turning her attention back to the tall beau before her, Arlie’s grin went from bashful to bright, having had enough of moping about her mistake. Sure, she’d kinda run into him, but maybe this was a sign that they were supposed to meet! Besides, Arlie was always looking for new friends, and if this guy wasn’t too mad, she’d be more than happy to befriend him! Spinning in a circle before halting abruptly again, Arlie held out her hand gave the boy a grin that would make the laughing sun above them jealous,
“So long as we’re here, my name’s Arlie! Whaddya call yerself, sugar?”

Waving away her apologies, Nathaniel let go of her hands (slightly regretfully - Now that he got a good look at her, he could see that she was quite pretty). "I'm all right! Nothing bruised or anything," he reassured her. "It could happen to anyone."
He shook her hand happily. "Arlie? That's a nice name." It sounded cuter when she said it in that drawl. Her accent was obviously Southern, but here at Shibusen, the entire campus was super diverse. It wasn't the least bit uncommon to meet people from all over - one of the things he had immediately liked about the school. He wouldn't be surprised if there was at least one person per state from the USA, and at least one person per country besides. "I'm Nathaniel. My friends call me Nate." Well, it wasn't exactly a lie, since the only person so far who had coined it had been Dante, who was just one person he had met so far, but it made Nathaniel feel braver. Friends. It was a nice concept, and he was determined to make it a reality. Arlie seemed sweet enough - it would be effortless to befriend someone so outgoing. Nathaniel couldn't help but notice how sparkly her top was. He yanked his eyes up, but at his height the angle was making it hard to avoid.
Nathaniel suddenly felt extremely bulky and out of place and - well, not shy, but he suddenly didn't know what to do with his hands. He looked at his feet, noticing his jacket. He hadn't even realized he had dropped it - probably fell in the confusion. He stooped down to pick it up, slinging it back over his shoulder, looking around. Her top was so sparkly it was hard to avoid looking at it, but Nathaniel was making a conscious effort not to be rude. It would be absolutely horrible to lose out on a potential friend for such a shallow reason. But she had a nice smile, and big grey eyes. Nathaniel cleared his throat. He spent most of his time with his sister - girls weren't scary. Searching hastily for a subject, he finally blurted out, "What nice weather we're having?"
He could have kicked himself.

Knowing that she hadn’t injured the tall young beau certainly made Arlie feel heaps better about the whole situation. The worst she could’ve done was run over a toe or maybe knock knees with him on accident, granted with his height that would’ve been an accomplishment. The top of her head was barely level with his chest after all, and Arlie was fairly certain that she was of average height for a young belle her age. Still, the blonde sighed in relief when he said he wasn’t hurt and also blushed just a tad at the comment on her name, her hands going to fix her hair and make sure all of the teased golden locks were still tied up tight like they were supposed to be,
“Aw, well ain’t you sweet!”
Nathaniel. Nathaniel, Nathaniel, Nathaniel! Arlie repeated the name in her head three times to be sure to remember it. If she didn’t she’d probably wind up forgetting and calling her by one of her brother’s names instead to substitute, and that was always awkward as all hell. Nate? That seemed a bit easier to remember. Still, it was a derivative of Nathaniel, so Arlie would remember it for sure. That or she’d just call him the surplus of pet names she used to refer to anyone and everyone that happened to somehow lock eyes with her. Placing her hands on her hips, Arlie grinned up at the giant,
“Well Nate, I am sure am pleased to meetcha!”
Arlie rolled back a bit as Nate stopped to get his jacket. One he had it back, she spun a circle and returned to where she’d parked herself previously, making sure to properly brake wither skates this time. No more collisions, or at least not on this particular occasion. Once was enough, twice would just be comical in a very strange way. Arlie was brought out of her thoughts by a statement about the weather that, really, she couldn’t agree more with. The blonde giggled and nodded her head, the unruly curls tied behind her head bobbing up and down as she did so,
“Sure is! Y’know, I think it might just be hotter here than it is back in Texas!”
Arlie shrugged her shoulders and wound a stray blonde curl around one of her fingers,
“Not that I mind! Makes it feel more like home, at least fer me.”

So she was from the south! Nathaniel was sort of jealous, really. She was probably used to heat like this, skating around without a care in the world. Another thing to be jealous of - Nathaniel on skates was like putting a baby giraffe in a field of banana peels. It was exactly as graceful as you'd expect! He had gone a couple of times with his family, but even at seven years old his little sister could skate circles around him. He was proud of her, of course, but it was a little embarrassing when she had to help him up constantly. It helped that his father was just as bad as him, and they'd both come home with bruises on both their hips and knees, while Angie and his mom would laugh as they continued to outshine the both on roller skate, bruise free. Just thinking of home made him feel a small bit homesick, but it couldn't be helped.
"At home, huh! You're lucky," Nathaniel said, shoulders sagging. "It never gets this hot where I'm from," he said, wistfully. "I kind of miss it! I'm not used to temperatures like this. Oh, right - home for me is Freemont - uh, it's near Seattle? If you know where that is," he added. He wasn't sure how geography was taught in the south. His home state didn't have much of the history that the south did - No Alamo in Washington! - but he wasn't giving it enough credit. He hastily added, "I mean, you probably know where it is, I just mean it's sort of a ways away from Texas." He cocked his head. "So you're at Shibusen, right? What...are you? Like, weapon, meister, etcetera?" It seemed like everything he said today was coming out awkward, but he hoped it was all in his head. He had finally gathered enough time and courage about being at Shibusen just to ask people what they were - it hadn't been as strange as he had made it out to be. Most people, he had found, were happy to talk about it! How he had gotten the idea that it was an embarrassing topic of conversation, he didn't know. Probably something to do with how he hadn't been raised around weapons or meisters. Heck, he hadn't even realized he had Soul Perception until after he tore his ACL. It had been quite a surprise, but at least it had been definitive proof that he was a meister, like his birth dad.

Never hot? Arlie couldn’t comprehend a land without sunshine and heat, but of course she knew that such a place must obviously exist. Like the North Pole, not that she ever intended on going there. The blonde wasn’t well equipped to handle anything more than light rain very well at all. If the temperature dropped below seventy, she was freezing and had a habit of snuggling up to the nearest available friend to steal their body heat. Texas was hot pretty much all year round, but it did have a bit of temperamental weather here and there. They got rain sure as anywhere did eventually, which was the only thing that ever really bothered Arlie. A little wetness she could handle, but the downpours they got during the rainy season always had put her in a grumpy mood. Probably because it always ruined her hair to walk in it. Yeah, that sounded about right. Hunching her shoulders some, Arlie put on a bit of a timid smile and continued to twirl that stray blonde curl tighter around her finger,
“Actually, sugar, I ain’t never heard of any Fremont or Seattle. What state’s it in? What’s it like?”
To be fair, Arlie could only name maybe ten of the fifty nifty United States. On a good day she might even remember their capital cities as well, but usually the blonde as about as sharp as a mashed potato. Arlie knew she wasn’t the brightest, but she did try and made up for her lack of geographical know how by rocking her English classes and owning her siblings at Spanish. Still, she could barely do simple math and don’t even let her near a science lab. It’ll only end in explosions. Arlie hadn’t even gotten it through her head that each individual human had a skeleton inside of them until she was twelve. She certainly wasn’t the brightest, but at least she was nice.
Ah, the signature question she’d heard a lot of lately! Still being fairly new and whatnot, Arlie was asked the Weapon or Meister question as least once a day as she met more new people to make friends with and whatnot. Not that the blonde minded, but she was a bit…bashful, per say, about her Weapon form. It wasn’t that it wasn’t something good or affective; it was that it wasn’t a firearm like her brothers or her father that bugged her. Compared to her brothers being twin Uzis and her father being a submachine gun, a scythe just seemed a bit, well, bland. Still, Arlie put on a grin despite that,
“I’m a Weapon of the One Star class! A Demon Scythe to be perfectly precise! What about yerself?”

"It's pretty rainy. It's, uh, the northwest? The other side of the country from New York. North of California," Nathaniel added helpfully. He didn't fault Arlie for having a bad sense of directionality - he was certainly not one to talk, since he was only at the park because he had been lost in the first place! Nathaniel was poor at directions, too, but only the practical application of them. He was great at geography - he could probably list every state, capital, and population of both - but when it came to following directions, he was easily turned around. It was a great example of book smarts vs. street smarts - in Nate's case, the ratio tipped heavily to book smarts. Street smarts, not so much.
In any case, he was surprised. A Demon Scythe! He hadn't expected such a cute girl to be such a - well, a badass weapon. He had pegged her for a Miester! But now that he knew, he realized it kind of fit. He wondered if she was a scythe like Shinigami-sama used, or a handheld one like they used in fields. In any case, what a great weapon! He told her so.
"A scythe! That's incredibly cool!" Nathaniel couldn't help but give her a big smile. It was hard to contain his enthusiasm. He was meeting all sorts of amazing people at this school! "I'm impressed! You're like - pa-SHING-" he made a karate chop motion with his hand off to the side. "Your meister and you must look really badass as you take down Kishin Eggs! I mean, with a scythe, you can't help but look badass. Pretty and tough! You're the real deal, Arlie," he said, admiringly. It wasn't that he was flirting - Nathaniel tended to be as honest as this in his daily life. He found Arlie cute, of course (she had the sweetest dimples!) but he was behaving around her as if they had been good friends for a while already. Something about her made him feel at ease. It really was difficult to be awkward around the Texan! Realizing he still hadn't answered her question, he straightened up and, bashfully, replied with a simple, "I'm just a meister. Nothing really super exciting."

Arlie held a blank, doe-eyed look on her face at Nathaniel tried to explain where he came from. What was north of California? Vermont? No wait, it was Minnesota! No that didn’t sound quite right either. She knew where New York was, though, and had enough sense rattling around in that mostly empty head of hers that she just flipped it to the opposite coast. Oh, so up in that left corner near Canada! Arlie could gather that much. The rainy comment got her mind going a bit though. Did it rain more up there than it did in Texas? Did they have a rainy season too or was it just a year ‘round thing? Oh man, the blonde couldn’t even imagine being stuck in rainy weather ll year long. She’d get so frustrated with it messing up her hair!
Arlie blinked and tilted her head at Nate’s reaction to her Weapon form. He thought it was cool? A dull looking piece of farm equipment was cool? The blonde appeared a bit dumbstruck as the tall young beau went on and on about how amazing she must be. He was really this impressed? Arlie really didn’t think she was anything that great, but apparently to Nathaniel a scythe was the picture of fantastic by how he was acting. Still, the praise made her heart soar. Blinking, the blank and somewhat stunned look she’d given him faded into bright eyes and a goofy grin. Lifting her hands to cover her slightly reddened cheeks, the blonde giggled,
“Aw shucks, you really are sweet as summer peaches, ain’t yah?”
Still, there was one little detail that’d he’d embellished on that wasn’t quite true,
“I gotta speak the truth, though, and that’s that I ain’t got a Meister. I mean I did almost partner with this one guy, but I guess scythes just weren’t his thing and I can understand that. I’m really just a big, clunky piece o’ farm equipment, nothin’ cool like my big brothers or my daddy’s Weapon forms are.”
Arlie cast her gaze downwards at her skates, having said the last sentence of her little monologue with a sort of heart-hearted laugh. She couldn’t really hold a candle to a couple of badass gun Weapons. What with it being a sort of family thing, everyone had been surprised that she was a scythe and not a hunting rifle or a shotgun or something else related to bullets and gun powder. While her family was still more than proud of her and thought that it was great that she sort of stood out from the rest of the group, Arlie still thought she wasn’t all that great. The blonde definitely had some unexpected confidence issues in this particular area. However, her smile brightened at learning Nathaniel’s Meister status, although she scowled a bit when he claimed that wasn’t nearly as exciting,
“Nate, Meisters are plenty fantastic! Y’all got fancy things like Soul Purge n’ Soul Perception, things none of us Weapons can do. Without you guys we’d be sittin’ ‘round gatherin’ dust!”
Arlie placed her hands on her hips and gave the giant an intense stare, smiling all the while,
“I think yer plenty fantastic!”

"You don't have a meister?" Nate echoed, surprise showing on his face. A cute girl with such a cool weapon form without a meister? He would be lying if he said he wasn't surprised by that. "Clunky? Hardly!" He said with conviction. "I can't think of anyone who'd pass up such a cool weapon like you. His loss." He could sympathize with her seemingly low confidence about it, though. Especially if someone had made plans to be partners and dropped out of them. That's gotta sting. Nathaniel gave her a reassuring smile and patted her on the shoulder. "I guess we're both in the same boat," he said, thinking about how he was partnerless as well.
Heck, why not? She didn't have a meister, and he needed a weapon. She was obviously sweet (he beamed when she called him fantastic , despite himself) and if anything he wouldn't mind hanging with her, even if she turned him down. It was kind of an out of a blue thing to ask of someone he had just met, so he wouldn't fault her if she didn't take to the idea. He took a deep breath and jumped on in.
"Well, if you don't have a partner, and I don't have a partner...I, well. I know we literally just met, but if you want? We could try it out? If we don't end up being a good pair we can part as unlikely friends." He gave her another smile (he was full of those) and shrugged. "What do you think? I mean, you don't have to decide now, but at least think about it? I would consider it a privilege to wield a weapon as cool as you." He gave her a sheepish and slightly expectant look as he waited for her answer, trying his best not to cross his fingers for luck.

Nathaniel sounded legitimately surprised that she was unpartnered. Arlie wondered if an unpartnered One Star was a rare thing or not. Oh man, was she like some kind of pariah? She hoped not. The blonde didn’t mean to not have a Meister, things just sort of worked out that way so far. She had fully intended to find a Meister right off the bat once reaching Death City, but then with the new school and new roommate and making friends, Arlie had gotten completely side tracked. Arlie had the attention span of a gnat when it came to these kinds of things, but she had been sure she’d find one eventually.
She was cool? Sheesh, Nate was just making her blush all over. Arlie gave him a bashful smile. His words were both comforting and encouraging to the Texan. At least they were, as he said, in the same boat. It wasn’t like she was the only unpartnered student in all of Shibusen. She’d find someone eventually, it may just take time, and Arlie was honestly fine with that the more she thought about it. Partnering with the first guy she ran in too may have ended horribly. Maybe it was a good thing that she hadn’t gone with Felix. Maybe they would have ended up parting ways anyway. The blonde would never know now, but that didn’t stop her from smiling.
Wait, what? Arlie blinked up at Nathaniel, hardly believing what he was saying. He wanted to see if he could partner with her? Really? It finally registered with the blonde and a smile the size of Dallas broke out across her face, eyes gleaming with joy and hope fit for a child on Christmas morning,
“What do I think? I think that’s the best idea I’ve heard all day!”
Arlie giggled excitedly and spun around on her skates. Sure, she was getting a bit excited for just a promising prospect, but she had a good feeling about this. They’d have to see if Nathaniel could even wield her first, but that was child’s play. Halting once again, the blonde looked up at the giants and held out her hands, her left lower to her waist and her right up more towards her ear, both palms facing up,
“Alright, Nate, gimme yer hands! Let’s see if this hound’ll hunt!”
Arlie as so excited she was bouncing up and down on her heels. While her skates should’ve prevented her from doing this, it seemed the blonde had enough balance and skill to do so without falling ass over tea kettle into Nate, which was just as well. She’d already run into him once, no need to do so again.

At first, Nathaniel had no idea what Arlie was doing, so he raised his hands to mirror hers, slightly confused. After a moment he realized that she wanted to see if her weapon form was compatible with him. Nathaniel was completely exuberant that she was so excited. He had only half expected her to say yes to his offer, so the relief was also quite apparent. He didn't know what to do with his hands, so he kind of held them out in a general "I'm Not Sure What To Do" effort. Awkwardly, he ended up holding her wrists, bending slightly because her stature was much shorter than his. He gave her an apologetic smile. "Sorry. I've never actually done anything like this. I've never actually...seen a Demon Weapon before," he added, a bit embarrassed. The only people he had known to go to Shibusen had been his parents, and they had perished many years before. In many ways, he wished he could ask them questions, but he didn't let it bother him. He did wish his adoptive parents, the only parents he had ever known, could see him now. They would be so thrilled - less thrilled than he was, but that wasn't hard to be. Nathaniel was overjoyed that one of the first people he had met turned out to want to be a partner with him!
He couldn't help but give surreptitious looks around the park, but to his relief nobody was paying any attention. Demon Weapons were numerous, especially in Death City, and it was no strange thing to see them transform all over the city. Nate had found himself staring in wonder, but he chalked that up to being new and unused to the area and - well, everything.

Arlie giggled a bit at Nathaniel’s confusion. What the blonde was doing was positioning her hands as such so that when she transformed the tall beau wouldn’t find himself accidentally holding onto her blade on accident. Not that such a thing had ever happened, but Arlie would hate to start that trend now of all times. Still, she got the feeling he was just as excited as she was! Trying not to bounce quite so much given her skates, Arlie took to giggling in excitement. She hoped she didn’t seem too crazy; all of the excitement just had her all revved up!
The blonde rolled her eyes and shook her head a bit, chuckling when Nate took her wrists. She slipped out of his grip only briefly so that she could take his hands in hers, making sure they were positioned properly. For a moment she wondered if she should try standing on tip-toe. Nate had to bend a little due to his height, although Arlie somehow didn’t think her standing on her toes would do much good, particularly since she was wearing roller skates. Deciding against it, the blonde looked somewhat surprised by what he told her but quickly replaced it with a grin,
“Well then, sugar, I guess it’s yer lucky day!”
His bashfulness was cute, Arlie had to admit. The little smile he’d given just made her want to reach up and pinch his cheeks, but he may have taken offense to that so she didn’t. Besides, there were more important matters at hand. Grasping Nathaniel’s hands firmly in hers, Arlie winked at him before her body became engulfed a glow the color of sea foam. Even if both of them were semi new to the whole ‘hey let’s partner’ thing, Arlie was at least used to her Weapon form. In place of her hands were two solid wooden hands that were attached to a long metal shaft that was about five feet long. At the end was, of course, her blade. At two and a half feet long, it was razor sharp and gleamed in the Nevada sun.
Arlie blinked, adjusting to the darkness she now inhabited for a few moments before the excitement hit her again. It was accompanied by a little dash of nervousness, but she squashed it with cheerfulness as quick as she could. The blonde did hope that Nate was as impressed with her Weapon form now as he had been beforehand when he hadn’t even seen it. She wasn’t anything fancy, just your plain old harvesting scythe that you’d probably still see present on any farm from back in the old days before tractors and such existed. Now in her Weapon form, Arlie’s wavelength would reach Nathaniel, coming off as warm and welcoming and eager to please. Giving the tall beau a moment, Arlie eventually spoke,
“Well? Whaddya think?”

His mouth nearly dropping open, Nathaniel got a better grip on the scythe and studied it. "I think this will work perfectly!" He said, enthusiastically giving the scythe a few experimental swings (making sure nobody was around). He held it by the middle to test the weight, but he quickly went back to holding it by the small handles in the middle. It was a scythe that was made for power and cutting. It wasn't fancy, but it was a scythe like people had on farms - good for hard work and wouldn't buckle. There was something incredibly safe about having the scythe. Nathaniel felt like it was perfect. He couldn't quite explain it, but he felt like it was synchronizing with him. It made sense, in a way.
"Yep, this will do perfectly!" He said again, agreeing with himself. He held it in the way that was most comfortable - with the top handle in his left hand and the middle one in his right. The blade was parallel with the ground, but didn't quite touch it - there was a good foot of air between the metal and the ground, but that didn't bother Nathaniel. More room for maneuvering, he thought, giving it a small swing to get used to the weight. He wouldn't have guessed that he would have liked the scythe so much, and in fact when he had arrived at Shibusen he had vaguely expected to have some kind of blunt weapon, but now that he had met Arlie he couldn't imagine using any other weapon. In any case, the two of them looked effortlessly. There was something about carrying a scythe that made Nathaniel feel really punk rock - more so than his appearance suggested!
He couldn't help but beam in excitement. He hadn't realized that he would be meeting his Weapon when he had stepped out the door this morning. He had a Weapon partner!! Nathaniel was beyond thrilled - especially since it was such a cool weapon! He felt energized and ready to go take on Kishin Eggs right then and there, but he held back and instead bounced on his feet in joy. "This is so cool," he gushed. He couldn't wait to tell everyone about this! In his mind's eye he already was envisioning the future - Arlie and Nate, Scourge of Kishin! Standing dramatically on the top of a building! Rushing into battle! ...Probably walking quickly into battle!

Perfectly? He said perfectly! Arlie started to giggle as Nate gave the Demon Scythe a few swings. Nothing was definite still, but hat word perfectly was a good sign in her book! Maybe this really was her lucky day! A skate in the park turned partnering session. Who would’ve guessed? Certainly not Arlie, but then the blonde never had possessed much foresight ahead of a few hours. Plus what with her self-esteem about her Weapon form being somewhere dragging along the ground about her feet, it generally wasn’t something she imagined, but Nate had said perfectly!
Even better, he’d said it again! He said perfectly twice! To describe her, no less! Even better was that Nate was so tall, the height and weight of the scythe wouldn’t bother him, or at least it didn’t seem to, not to mention if they were really compatible then they wouldn’t have to worry over something like that anyway. He seemed to handle her just fine from what Arlie could tell, and that would certainly work for her! The blonde was brimming with excitement, grinning like a child on Christmas morning as she looked out and watched Nate get a handle on wielding her a bit better.
Cool! Another wonderful word! Arlie could have screamed she was so happy, but managed to avoid doing that. She didn’t want to alarm him. Still, she could barely contain her excitement so it all emerged as elated laughter. She’d found a partner! She’d finally found a partner, at last! Okay so it really hadn’t taken too long, but she was ecstatic regardless of timelines! Figuring that the little test run they’d done was over with, Arlie changed out of her Weapon form, that sea foam glow returning for a split second before Nate would find are having throwing her around his neck in a hug.
Given how tall he was, Arlie just sort of dangled off of him, grinning in a way that would make the laughing sun jealous of how she was currently shining with joy,
“Fantastic, just fantastic! I’ll be the best Weapon you could ask fer, Nate, I promise!”
Another round of ecstatic laughter left her, fading into giddy giggling sooner rather than later. This was her best day since arriving in Death City yet! Not much could top this, that was for certain! Clinging to her new partner fr just a moment longer, Arlie then released him and dropped back down onto her feet, wobbling a bit before finding her balance on her roller skates again. After having avoided a tumbling incident, she looked up at Nate and gave him the brightest smile possible.
