As far as detective work went, the NOT students were doing better than Maura had originally anticipated. She would give credit where credit was due, but they hadn’t found all that much yet. The superintendent wondered if the two had any more plausible scenarios than she did already. She supposed that she would find out eventually either way. Hearing another question being posed to her and the girls, Maura shrugged her shoulders,
“Not that I noticed. Girls?”
The turned her eyes on the two roommates seated beside her. She hadn’t spotted any marks on the floor when she’d first inspected the room the previous day. Lenore shook her head but Edith straightened up a bit,
“Oh! There were a couple of shallow scrapes on the window sill but…um…”
The blonde hunched her shoulders and folded her hands in her lap, staring down at them,
“I kinda smoothed them over a bit. I thought the lock had scraped against the wood or something, I’m sorry!”
Lenore rolled her eyes and Maura sighed,
“It’s okay, Edith, you didn’t know.”
There was nothing to be done about it now. While it was less to go on, Maura hoped it wouldn’t impede any part of the investigation. On the plus side, she still had one more room she could show the students if they wanted. Stretching her arms over her head for a moment, Maura then stood,
“If you two don’t see anything else in here that could be of help as far as clues go, I could take you to the other room.”
It was entirely up to the NOT students whether or not to inspect the next room. The main thing that perplexed Maura about the other room was that it was upstairs. How the perpetrators would have scaled the walls up to the windows she had no idea, but she hoped Rhett and Lior would be able to figure it out. At present, it seemed a few scrapes and a torn screen was all the room had to offer, and that really wasn’t much.

So some of the evidence had been obstructed? Well it wasn’t that much so hopefully it was nothing major. Rhett had a pretty good map of the room for now and spent a little more time finalizing the details in his head. Looking over the room he tried to pick out any small clue that would be useful for the future, be it the color of the walls to the cuts on the window to the color of the panties. Done he nodded and looked at those in the room. Now to figure out what to do in order to progress.
”It shouldn’t be a big deal with all the other details.”
Rhett mentally added the most logical scratch marks to the window of his mental map. Good now the crime scene was complete in his head and could be accessed later. With that in mind he didn’t think there was much else they could gain by looking over this room. It had been helpful to start here but they were already working with the odds out of their favor. With any luck things would fall into place after they saw the other room and the mission would end easy.
”I would like to see the other room and compare the two if that’s alright with you.”
He turned to look at Lior for her opinion on the matter. It was partially up to her as well and he wanted her to be part of the choice. He could only gain so much from each room so hopefully his meister could assist in putting clues together. They still had to apprehend who the culprit was but that was an issue for the future. For the time he was concerned with figuring out how the thief had gotten into the rooms and solving that mystery first. He had theories forming but with only one room explored he had no way of knowing.

So it seemed that some for of evidence had, in fact, been destroyed after all between days. Lior figured there would be at least one missing piece, and that seemed to be it, although to be fair there still wasn’t much to the puzzle thus far. She and Rhett still seemed so far from finding out who the panty thief, or thieves, were. Obstructed evidence couldn’t be helped, she supposed. Besides, her partner didn’t seem to think too much of it. Perhaps she was over thinking tings. She wasn’t very good at the whole detective thing. The albino hunched her shoulders a bit, taking a last glance around the room. There wasn’t really anything that caught her attention.
Wait, now Rhett was looking at her. Ah yes, he probably wanted to make sure she was alright moving to the next crime scene. Lior nodded in agreement. She didn’t see any need to say anything. While she did hope that they would find more clues in the other room. The albino wondered briefly if the next crime scene was accessible because it as recent or because the girls inhabiting the room didn’t mind their privacy being invaded for the sake of the investigation. They’d find out in due time. This brought a thought to her head that she ought to thank Lenore and Edith for allowing her and her Weapon to investigate at all. Turning to the two girls sitting on the bed, she bowed her head slightly and tried to smile,
“Thank you for letting us into your room to see the crime scene. We greatly appreciate your help and cooperation.”
Her voice was a bit softer than she’d meant it to be if only because she was nervous. Some people stuttered, others became shrill. Lior simply got quieter and quieter until it was impossible to tell what she was saying. Still, it wouldn’t do to just leave without saying anything, plus it was a chance for her to try and get better at talking to people in general. The longer she stood still, the more uneasy she felt, so with that that albino went and stood beside the door, awaiting Rhett and the superintendant. Lior wondered what Rhett thought of the situation so far. She had her own ideas of who the culprits could be, but most were fairly simple. She hoped everything turned out to be simple, at least.

With the first room having been investigated, the next was upstairs. Maura rose from her seat beside Lenore. Neither of the NOT students seemed terribly upset at Edith’s mishandling of evidence, which she supposed was fine. It as unfortunate but there was really nothing to be done about it now. Getting upset would only cost them time, and Maura wanted this over and done with as quickly as possible. She watched Lior thank the two roommates for their cooperation, which was nice. Unexpected, but definitely nice. Edith giggled and waved a hand,
“No need to thank us, miss, we’re more than happy to help.”
Lenore was more reserved, her eyes glued to the book in her lap,
“Punch them in the jaw once for me when you catch them, okay?”
Maura smiled a bit at the quieter roommate’s statement before nodding in the direction of the door,
“Well if you two are ready, let’s head on out. Edith, Lenore, I’ll see you later.”
Once again, the trio was off in search of more clues. They were doing rather well, but Maura still couldn’t help but think there had to be a better way of going about this whole thing than calling in NOT students. Like calling the police. Then again they may not think the thefts were serious enough for actual investigation. She didn’t know and didn’t care, it was a bit late to be thinking of alternatives now anyway. Leading Rhett and Lior out the hallway they’d originally followed, she looked over her shoulder at them when they reached the stairs,
“The next room I don’t get because it’s on the second level. I have no clue how someone would have gotten in through a window up here without falling flat on their ass making a run for it.”
The superintendent returned her gaze to the steps to be sure she wouldn’t stumble,
“This one was robbed maybe four days ago. It’s been cleaned up a bit since then, so I’m not sure how much evidence you’ll be able to fi-“
A scream resounded from just ahead and Maura was immediately on high alert. Not bother to check if Rhett and Lior were still following her, she ran up the remaining stairs and took a right. There she almost ran right into the girl who’d screamed. The superintendent caught her by the shoulders,
“Mitzi, what’s wrong? Why are you screaming?”
The petite brunette was completely red in the face and appeared to be on the verge of tears. However judging from the scowl on her face, they were more tears of frustration than anything else. Looking up at Maura, her voice shook when she spoke,
“It happened again! They were here again, the screen is all torn up again and the drawer was open and I am so fucking sick of this!”
The superintendent shook her head. Great, just great. Putting an arm around her upset charge, she moved to the side of the hallway and looked to the two NOT students,
“Mitzi and Merle’s room is all the way at the end of the hall. Why don’t you two go on ahead and I’ll stay here with her.”
With Mitzi as livid as she was, it was likely best to keep her out of the way. Maura wasn’t exactly sure where the girl’s twin was, but she only hoped she wasn’t back yet. The two both had violent tempers, she didn’t want them setting out on a crusade to find the culprits themselves.

With a few parting words they could leave the room and resume looking for clues as to the culprit of this case. Hearing each of the girls’ parting words Rhett assumed what he could about them but that was more for his own amusement than for anything mission related. Following the superintendent out him and Lior would be able to investigate the other crime scene and hopefully pick up more usable clues from that one. He listened to what Maura was saying and tried to figure anything out from that. Knowing that the second scene was on the second floor was indeed quite interesting as she did have a point, escape would be much harder.
Hearing that the room had been cleaned was a tad disheartening when they could really use as many clues as possible at this point. Though there wasn’t much he could do about that so he would just have to look for what he could and make do with that. In this process of thinking up a plan his thoughts were interrupted by the scream that erupted on the second floor. That was by far the worst part of the mission right there, not the screaming but the fact that Maura decided to run up the stairs in response.
Technically she was simply doing her job and all but Rhett thought that there had to be another way for her to do so without running. Of course they couldn’t just lose the superintendent and he would probably end up in too much trouble if left in the girl’s dorm by himself. Running as best he could Rhett managed to ascend the stairs behind Maura before leaning against the wall and gasping for breath. He reached into his pocket and took a puff of his inhaler as quickly as he could as to not lose track of anything. Breath returning he turned the corner and made his way to where the superintendent and the girl who had apparently screamed were.
So apparently there was a fresh scene to investigate? Wonderful! Well at least in the regard of figuring out this case it was wonderful. Still using the wall for support he listened to the two as they spoke about the recent break in. It looked like the torn screen was a constant at least so there was that to go off of. Nodding as he thought about the case it looked like they could at least see a fresh scene and hopefully have some good clues to work off of. Maura’s suggestion seemed solid enough to him and he didn’t think that Lior would have any complaints about looking over the room.
”Alright…that sounds…like a good idea.”
Speaking while still out of breath he made his past the superintendent and headed down the hall. Not running or moving in any particular rush he walked down the hall toward the desired room. Rhett walked in silence while he recovered from that issue with the stairs and took the time to look over what he knew. They had figured out some interesting clues but he wasn’t exactly sure how they went together yet and because of this it was too early to think about theories about the thief. Reaching the room he motioned for Lior to head in before him. She was his meister and being a girl herself might not feel so odd walking into a random girl’s room.
”After you.”

Lior waved one last time to the two girls before following Rhett and the superintendent out into the hallways once again. Upon hearing Maura’s own confusion, she too wondered how in the world the burglars got into a room on the second floor. From what she’d seen of the outside of the building, there was no way they could’ve gotten up and down easily without hurting themselves, at least not to her knowledge. Maybe the thieves were more organized and experienced than she’d originally anticipated.
That train of thought did worry her a bit. The albino wasn’t sure that she could deal with seasoned criminals. Of course she and Rhett would try their best, but in a situation like that wouldn’t calling the cops be a better solution? Of course Lior’s mind was coming up with images of giant, muscular men in striped shirts and masks breaking to steal panties. Of course this made no sense, but it’s what she thought of. Her worrying was getting the best of her again. The albino should be thinking of solutions, not more potential problems! Telling her worrisome thoughts to silence themselves, she tried to think over what clues they already had again on their way up the stairs.
The scream startled Lior, making her jump a bit and grip the railing. She and Rhett followed after Maura as she sprinted up the stairs. If she hadn’t been worried before, she certainly was now. Had one of the girls walked in on the robbers? Were they being tied up and murdered while the three searched for the scream? Would they stumble right into some terrible crime scene? Lior looked a bit more panicked than was necessary when they reached Maura. However her worrying was quickly direction towards her Weapon. Why was Rhett leaning against a wall? Why did he appear to be so short of breath? Seeing the inhaler, Lior put two and two together. Asthma. After watching her partner for a few moments to make sure he wasn’t about to pass out or go into cardiac arrest, she turned her attention back to Maura and the female student.
A newly ransacked would probably yield more clues than the previous one. At least that’s what the albino hoped. As unfortunate as it was, they did need clues. She felt sorry for the poor student who had returned to find her privacy violated, but perhaps it would prove to be fortuitous for her and Rhett. At the very least this would hopefully lead them to the culprits. Following Rhett down the hall, it wasn’t difficult to find the room at the end of the hall. Lior nodded at her partner’s urging her inside and entered the dorm room. She was a bit concerned for him still. When they’d started down the hall Rhett had still seemed a bit winded. Once inside, the albino glanced worriedly at him,
“Are you alright, Rhett? After running up the stairs, I mean.”

Mitzi and Merle’s room was much the same as Edith and Lenore’s had been. Two beds shoved against opposing walls, one being positions under a window. What was different was the state the room as currently in. To say it was messy was an understatement. Whoever had tumbled through and stolen the girls’ panties had all but ransacked the place.
The covers of the bed beneath the window were tussled up and hanging over the side. The pillow was slumped again the floor and appeared to have been stepped upon in some way. The window itself was only half open, the screen torn much like the other in Lenore and Edith’s room. The difference, however, was that the hole was a bit bigger. If looked at closely, it would appear as though it had been clumsily torn through and then whoever, or perhaps whatever, had climbed through had stretched the metal mesh in order to get into the room.
The dresser belonging to the twin girls had its drawers pulled open. The all of their clothes appeared to have been rifled through with a few having fallen to the floor. The lower left drawer was where they stored their panties, and it appeared almost completely empty. Only two pairs remained, and both appeared to have been dragged towards the window during escape but then dropped. Apparently the culprit had either been in too much of a hurry or hadn’t cared enough to stop and pick them up. Other than that, nothing else seemed to be missing at first glance.
Apart from the obvious, little else seemed to stand out too terribly. Dirt of course had been tracked in by the burglars. In addition there appeared to be more small scratches on the window sill, perhaps similar to those that would have been in Edith and Lenore’s room. A few moments later, the superintendent appeared in the doorway. She followed the students in and looked around, her eyes going wide at the scene,
“Oh dear.”
Maura brought a hand up to cover her mouth as she looked around at the mess. The poor twins. Mitzi was certainly right in having thrown a fit. Merle would likely burst into to tears if she came back now, which the superintendent hoped she wouldn’t. She’d only just managed to calm down one sister; she didn’t need the other scampering into the crime scene and becoming upset as well. Maura sighed and stepped back to lean against the wall, waving a hand,
“Whatever you need to do, do it. This is absolutely ridiculous, a robbery in broad daylight? Have they no shame?”

Slowly but surely Rhett could feel his heart slow down and his breath return to a relaxed state. Taking another moment to make sure he was all set he moved off of the wall. He had to start thinking about his asthma and how he was going to deal with it. Sure it was only a minor inconvenience at the moment but they were still only NOT students. If a set of stairs could wind him like that he wasn’t sure how he would fair against an actual kishin, though that was all future thought that he didn’t need to worry about right now. At the moment completing the mission was the thing that had the most priority.
Lior did take his suggestion and head into the room and now that he was more stable he followed her. She also seemed to have noticed how badly the stairs had beaten him and was somewhat concerned. It was a nice sentiment but he was used to dealing with a simple set of stairs, as long as it wasn’t that hell in front of the school. Looking at his meister he gave her a grin to try and reassure her, that was what people did in this kind of situation right?
“Don’t worry I’m fine. Just a little out of breath but that should pass soon enough.”
He hoped that would help her relax about his asthma. He did tell her the truth and would be fine but the last thing he needed was Lior fretting about him instead of focusing on the mission at hand. Now that he was inside the room however it was time to look for more clues about the circumstance of these panty raids. It definitely looked like a crime scene just from taking a quick look in the room.
Rhett headed over to the dresser and looked at the contents as well as the panties on the floor. Turning he looked under the beds for any more clues before standing up and looking at the window. Running a finger along the scratches before moving it along the torn mesh. Squinting his eyes in concentration he called back to his meister.
”What do you make of this Lior?”
Figuring he wasn’t going to get many more clues just looking around the room he looked out the window to see if he could spot any signs of the thief or thieves had left outside of the ransacked room.

Lior pursed her lips, still looking quite concerned about her partner. Still, if Rhett said he was okay, she’d let the issue drop. They had a mission to finish; she could fuss over her Weapon later. Nodding to show that she accepted his answer, she went about surveying the room. It was a complete mess. Her first thought actually went to Mitzi and Merle. It was going to be a project to clean the place up after they left. She hoped it wouldn’t be too traumatic for them, having to go through such a thing twice. Lior felt sorry for the two girls, and even sorrier that they still didn’t know who was doing this, but she was growing more and more determined to find the thieves.
Stepping further into the room, she examined the dresser. The culprits seemed to be growing desperate in her eyes. She couldn’t imagine any break in was tidy, but the clothes were so haphazardly strewn about she couldn’t help but feel as though it all looked a bit rushed. While she didn’t know how many pairs of panties had been stolen from the other girls, the thieves seemed to have gone a bit overboard with Mitzi and Merle’s room. The bottom drawer was nearly empty, and the two remaining had fallen to the floor. Honestly, why did these burglars need so many panties anyway? Moreover, why not just buy them? Lior didn’t understand their motive at all.
Lior heard Rhett consult her and sighed, shrugging her shoulders,
“I honestly can’t make much of it. I don’t know about you but with how messy the place it, it feels to me like they were rushing. Maybe they knew we were here and tried to hurry?”
Wandering over to where her partner was, she examined the window as well. The scratch marks were perplexing to say the least. They could have been left by whatever the thieves used to get through the screen that covered the window, but the whole situation still seemed so strange to her. Like the other room, the hole in the metal mesh was so small that only a young child would be able to fit through it from what Lior saw. Then again she supposed mischievous children would be more than happy to stir up trouble like this, but still, panties? Really? Couldn’t they put their energy into something more productive like sports? Then again they didn’t even know if it was children for sure, but Lior was beginning to the think that that was still the most likely identity of the thieves.

The scratches upon the windowsill were hardly deep, just barely digging into the wood. The edges of the torn screen on the window were frayed but each tear seemed to begin at a point and then slowly unravel out. The clues left for the students to find were minor, but they would break the case of the panty bandits wide open. Maura still stood leaning against the far wall, her face in her hands. This was a disaster. To have something like this happen right under her nose was humiliating. Lior seemed onto something with the whole rushed feel to the scene. If the culprits knew they were present of course they would hurry and flee the scene, but of course it would turn out to be or different reasons than Maura or either of the students expected.
As Rhett gazed out the window, he would see out to the small bit of courtyard beside the dorm. In one of the taller trees staring right back at him would be a very fat raccoon with a pair of pink and white striped panties in its mouth. Upon realized it had been spotted, the furry creature leapt from the tree and took off running to disappear in to the bushes, but of course where there was one raccoon there were bound to be more. The pillow left on the floor had indeed been trampled upon, and if inspected more closely there would be faint paw prints to be found littering the fabric.
While the dorm itself was only two stories tall, there was an attic that was technically big enough to count as a third floor. As the raccoon outside would disappear from few, telltale skittering would be heard overhead of others tumbling around in the aforementioned attic. Maura started at the noise and looked up at the ceiling,
“What the hell was that?”
She looked to the two students with a bit of a nervous expression,
“You heard that right?”
While Maura wasn’t paying very much attention, hopefully the two students had it all figured out. They clearly weren’t dealing with mischievous children or hardened criminals. No, they were dealing with something with fur and striped tails. The only issue would be going after the creature. Follow the one outside and they would be very likely led astray. After all, their nest was situated I the attack, and that was there they would find the hoarded panties, now being used for insulation.

Looking out the window Rhett wasn't sure what to expect. Honestly he didn't plan on seeing anything.Perhaps the culprit would be running away if they were lucky. Out of all the possible scenarios Rhett did not expect to see what was actually outside. A raccoon. It was a raccoon. The courageous hero of perverts who was brave enough to steal from the Shibusen girl's dorm was a simple raccoon. Well they may have solved the case of the stolen panties but their success left Rhett feeling rather disheartened. It was like learning that Superman or Goku was dead, and there were no Dragon balls to bring them back.
Slowly Rhett lowered his head into his hands. With his photographic memory he was sure he was correct. Not sure how to feel about the sudden turn of events Rhett simply rested his head in his hands. Looking through his fingers he saw the pillow and could make out the paw prints that were on it. How could he have missed that? The one way that made the most sense to him was simple oversight. They were looking for a human so the idea that it was an animal didn't even cross his mind. Hearing the noise upstairs and the response from the superintendent Rhett sighed.
"It was a raccoon. Based on the sound there may be more upstairs. It was all raccoons."
Lifting up his head Rhett turned around to look toward the door. He was disappointed more than anything in the outcome of the mission. Sure it was rather easy in terms of missions even if it was only a NOT class. How exactly was finding the hoarded nest of a bunch of raccoons supposed to help them prepare for real missions with actual deadly kishin? Of course he could be wrong about the noise from above them however he doubted he was.
"Let's just go upstairs and check to make sure."
Unenthusiastically he headed toward the door so the others would get the idea and join him. They still did need Maura to guide them after all.

Seeing Rhett hold his head in his hands perplexed Lior for a moment. Tilting her head, she knelt beside him and peered out the window herself. Oh. That’s why he looked so crestfallen. Lior stared after the raccoon, watching it scamper away into the bushes, panties still in its mouth. The albino slowly shook her head before standing and leaning against the space of wall beside the window. It took all of her self control not to bash her head against it. Raccoons. Of course it was raccoons, what else could it have been? The small holes in the screens, the random stolen cookies, the scratch marks. Kids, what had she been thinking?
Sighing, Lior raised her head to look her partner. Anticlimactic to be sure, but at least the mystery was solved to a point. Lior didn’t know much about raccoons. Of course she’d seen a fair few of them having lived in Chicago, but mostly it was something she heard the groundkeepers complaining about, mainly during the winter months when they would get into the trash cans. Whatever, raccoons or no, they at least knew what was taking the panties from the girls’ dorms now. She had to admit, though, they sure were smart raccoons for managing to open windows and whatnot. She didn’t condone what they were doing of course, but even animals had to have their reasons she supposed.
Hearing the sound of scurrying claws overhead, Lior could only assume that where there was one raccoon there were probably more. Rhett took the initiative of explaining to the superintendent while Lior was busy looking up at the ceiling. She assumed that they’d be heading up there, although she was a bit apprehensive. Raccoon wrangling wasn’t something she was sure that she could do, but if Maura insisted she would of course comply. The albino slowly followed after her Weapon in silence, more out of worry than anything else. She paused in the hallway since the two would need the superintendent to show them where to go. In the meantime she looked to her still disheartened partner,
“If we find more of them upstairs, what should we do? Chase them out?”
Lior wasn’t even sure that would work. After all, they were obviously getting in through the windows, and if they were upstairs they may have been a hole in the roof for them to squeeze through as well. Chasing them away may get them to leave for a little bit, but she was sure they’d just come back once all was safe and sound once again. Sighing, she looked worriedly at the ceiling again. They’d figure something out, but she still couldn’t help but feel anxious about how all this would turn out.

The superintendent stared at Rhett. Raccoons? That’s what had caused all this? Furry, fat little bandits with striped tails? Maura took a deep breath and turned away from the students, covering her face with both hands. How could she have been so damn stupid? Of course it was raccoons! She was at least thankful she hadn’t called the police instead of Shibusen, then that would have been beyond embarrassing. Maura could handle a couple of NOT students questioning her intelligence, but cops may have felt the need to mock her a little bit more. The more she thought about it, the more it made sense. But Maura could wallow in her own self-pity and shame later. Rhett was right, they needed to check upstairs.
Maura silently followed the NOT students out into the hall, taking deep breaths to keep her composure together. She wasn’t mad at them, she was mad at herself for being an idiot and not taking into account that humans weren’t the only living things capable of breaking into a dorm. Thankfully she was no longer livid about that fact and managed to nod down the hall for them to follow her,
“Follow me.”
The entryway to the attic wasn’t really all that far. Truth be told it was rather precariously placed near the top of the stairs leading down to the main floor, but Maura wasn’t an architect and therefor had no standing to complain about the placement. To be fair, it was concealed that that if one never looked up, one would never even know that there was an attic. The superintendent ran her hand along the wall a ways before coming to a hook,
“There isn’t a third floor, but there is an attic. It’s just big enough to store some extra tables and things for whenever we hold events here.”
Around the hook was a cable with a bauble at the end, if only to make it noticeable. Unwinding it from the hook, Maura wandered to perhaps a foot from the top of the stairs and yanked. The boards of the ceiling creaked and some dust fell, but the hidden steps did slowly descend. Maura stepped forward and placed a foot on the bottom one, looking to the NOT students,
“I’ll stay down here and make sure the stairs don’t close on you. If you find more raccoons, just come back down and tell me and I’ll get animal control on the phone. I’m not gonna have you two go after them, you might get rabies.”
Plus there wasn’t all that much NOT students could really do about wild animals living in an attic. Sure, Maura could’ve said to kill them but that just didn’t seem right. They were raccoons, annoying but not necessarily things that deserved to die. Plus she didn’t want to scar the young team by forcing them to maim a bunch of furry little creatures. That was not on Maura’s to-do list, thankfully. She could be strict, but she wasn’t cruel.

Letting Maura pass them Rhett followed the superintendent as she asked. He was still disappointed that he had gotten his hopes up for the mission and had all his expectations crushed. The thieves had been neither very brave panty thieves he could look up to as heroes or even people in general that would have at least made the mission seem more important. Though he did have to remember it was only a NOT level mission but he thought they would at least have a little bit more of a challenge to them. Finding out that raccoons had an affinity for panties wasn’t exactly the most helpful information for the future.
So it was the attic they were in? Well that would be a rather fitting place for a bunch of raccoons to nest up. Keeping his distance from Maura and the stairs Rhett listened and waited for her to pull the stairs down. They still had to get rid of the raccoons in order to complete the mission but that was the tricky part. Killing them seemed like a bit of an extreme outcome considering they were just a bunch of animals. Plus Rhett didn’t think Lior was exactly up for using his screw form to impale a bunch of furry animals.
So that was the plan? Just see if there were any animals and tell Maura so she could get professionals. It made sense even if it did mean that it would be even more boring for them. Regardless it was still a mission and Rhett did want to get out of the NOT class eventually. Moving closer he made his way slowly up the ladder. Firstly Rhett didn’t want to tire himself out with climbing nor did he want to stick his head up and be greeted by a bunch of raccoons ready to attack him. Getting into the attic he moved off the let Lior in and looked around for the raccoons or panties.

An attic did seem a proper place for raccoons to hide. Not that Lior had an overabundant knowledge of the furry bandits, but she could assume. Following along behind Maura, the albino still wondered just how she and Rhett had missed something so blaringly obvious. Nothing about the crime scenes screamed that humans had been the culprits; it was just that they had been so fixated on the assumption that it was humans that nothing else really seemed possible. Looking back on everything now it was of course plainly obvious how wrong they were, but Lior tried not to judge too harshly as much as she was berating herself internally.
Shameful as it was that they’d been so blind, Lior was oddly encouraged by the unexpected turn of events. Sure they hadn’t gotten all their ducks in a row just yet, but so what? If anything, this only made her want to get to their next NOT mission all the quicker. They would do better next time, they had to! This was just the first of many missions that lay ahead on their road to greatness, Lior was sure that with time she and Rhett would learn to better read clues and of course better work together to solve mysteries and whatnot. Unexpected bursts of determination aside, the albino thought it rather strange to hide the staircase to the attic in the ceiling. Why not have a simple staircase with a door atop it? She didn’t get it, but she really couldn’t complain as long as it got them where they needed to go.
At Maura’s mention of calling animal control, Lior inadvertently let out a sigh of relief. It wasn’t that she didn’t wish to interact with the raccoons; it was that she wasn’t sure that she could successfully do so without something going terribly wrong. The furry creatures could be aggressive after all since they were invading their personal space after all. There was also the thing that now Lior didn’t have to worry about Maura asking them to kill the poor things. Killing animals wasn’t something that she wanted to have to do in her life, even if they were being naughty little panty thieves. She was sure they only had the best intentions; they were only animals after all.
Lior followed Rhett up the step ladder stairs carefully, trying to avoid tripping as best she could. It seemed to be sturdy, so she wasn’t worried about it breaking under their weight. Some air of caution was needed of course since if they startled the little bandits they could of course feel the need to attack. Once Rhett was safely in the attic, Lior maneuvered her way in and off to the side of the step stairs. Looking around, she looked for any sign of the furry creature, also listening for the scurrying of feet. After a moment, she glanced at Rhett,
“See anything?”
