Takao; Satoru; Meister
Name: Takao Satoru
Nickname: Shou
Age: 17
Gender: Male
Race: Meister
Position: Student
Class: One-Star
Partner: Who is that special person?
A Strong Body
Picture:
Appearance: Bluntly put, about as normal as someone can get, and something that ironically tends to stand out at the Shibusen. Standing in at an average five foot six and barely weighing in at 156 pounds, Satoru is neither heavily built or particularly well muscled. With dark hair and indigo blue eyes, the former usually cut relatively short and the later usually present with a tinge of apathy despite the spark of intelligence behind them, Sato usually has little problem blending into a street side crowd. Despite his at home habits, Satoru's skin lacks the deathly pale whiteness of most people who tend to follow his lifestyle.
Clothing wise, however, Satoru tends to stick out a bit. Not particularly happy with the Shibusen due to family history but having resigned to the fact that he needs their help, Satoru has deliberately resisted mixing into the student body by wearing his previous school's uniform to classes rather than the Shibusen one - not against rules, per se, but rather a measure of passive resistance. Afterhours, however, Satoru's clothing tends to be a bit more normal, usually consisting of jeans and t shirts of various make and color.
Height: Five foot six inches
Weight: 156 pounds
Fighting Style: Typically, not at all. When forced into a conflict, though, Satoru's usual MO will be to keep a safe distance if possible and observe the enemy for a weakness - given his lack of physical prowess most forms of physical assault would be suicide and he knows it.
Personality: Satoru is, simply put, gifted. Blessed with an eidetic memory and a marked proficiency for pattern recognition, Satoru rarely had to work for much in his academic career. Despite that, though, he does not possess the arrogance typically found among most people in his position - he is quite well aware that his talents were more the result of dumb luck than anything else, and sees little reason to celebrate something that was given rather than earned. Given the number of people who have seen it differently over the years, however, Satoru has long since fallen back on the idea that it's better to be good at something rather than well known for it, although that in itself has become the victim of a number of personality flaws that Satoru has developed over the years.
What was once a desire to help other people as a child has quickly faded into a jaded cynicism since Satoru's early teen years, the drive that he had experienced while younger now tainted by a number of motivational issues and the belief that it is better and easier to simply blend in with the crowd and to mind one's own business. While still at heart a good person, Satoru tends to look the other way whenever possible if other peoples' problems cross his path, only interfering when they either A.) Involve close friends and family. or B.) Become his problem in some way, shape or form. The only aspect of his personality that has remained completely unchanged is his stubborn attitude, namely to do things his way or not at all, with the only things capable of changing his mind on any given issue being carefully thought out, logical arguments typically aimed on why it might be in his own best interests to do what someone else suggests.
Aside from all of the above, Satoru is typically the lone individual you will see in the back of a classroom during break periods, either reading a book or partaking in another leisure activity best done alone - long story short, the individual who only usually only speaks when spoken to or when communication otherwise becomes a necessity. In spite of all of his snark, cynicism and other shortcomings, though, Satoru would move mountains for family or close friends if it was needed, although he'd attempt to do so in as discreet a manner as possible.
Inside the Soul
Abilities:
Name: Soul Perception Description: A relatively uncommon ability but not particularly rare in its own regard, Satoru possesses the ability to physically see the souls of others as well as to instinctually sense them from a distance - a sixth sense, of sorts. Somewhat unique in Satoru's case, the teen has trouble not using it, requiring a certain degree of concentration to keep the ability shut off - while strictly limited to a 30 foot radius, it has resulted in a number of sleepless nights and fatigue related health issues.
Resonances:If you have a partner and resonance list and give a brief description of it/them here.

Weaknesses:
- Physically weak
- Unable to simply "ignore" or work through significant pain
- Not particularly agile - only capable of clumsy dodges.
Hobbies: Read, spend time messing around with electronics.

Aspirations: Not particularly known - subconsciously aware that he will never live a normal lifestyle with his particular manifestation of soul perception, but had aspired to either follow a career in programming or the medical field before enrolling at the Shibusen.
History: Born in Aogashima, Japan, Satoru's life was fairly simple growing up. The son of two local business owners and the youngest sibling out of three, nearly everything in Satoru's life was as normal as it could get growing up - he had his friends among the other neighborhood children who he spent time with, helped with the family store on occasion, pestered his older siblings when possible and spent a fair amount of his time outdoors thanks in part to the largely agricultural focus of the island's economy. It wasn't until entering elementary school and the entrance of standardized testing into his life that Satoru began to set himself apart from his classmates, frequently scoring much, much higher than expected for his age after study sessions, with said scores eventually carrying over to nonstandardized tests whenever allowed to prepare ahead of time. This, along with numerous other personality quirks, encouraged his parents to have Satoru undergo slightly different forms of testing over the next handful of years - after visiting numerous specialists and receiving numerous false diagnosis (many of which pointed out by Satoru himself after looking up the conditions ascribed to himself out of mere curiosity), however, the Takao household simply decided to leave the matter where it lay and move on with things.
As Satoru grew older, though, he himself began to realize that he likely perceived the world a bit different than other people might, frequently noticing and remembering details that other people overlooked or forgotten - things that he had thought were blatantly obvious and not so easily forgotten, although as time went on he found that clearly wasn't the case. Just the same, however, Satoru continued on with his life as usual, seeing what came to most others around him as an oddity as something he could use to help others, with his ultimate goal by the time he entered the first year of junior high school being to enter the medical profession. During that same year both of his older siblings would be scouted by the Shibusen upon their entrance into their first years of senior high school, with both accepting invitations to attend the world famous academy - Satoru, the youngest of the three, was ignored at the time in favor of the older and, in the opinion of the scout, more capable siblings aside from age constraints, although note of his then emerging talent for soul perception was made.
While proud of his older brother and sister for making it into the prestigious academy, Satoru shifted his focus onto his own studies as the academic year began, determined to keep up with his siblings' achievements and to do them and his parents proud. Pressing onwards with his own studies even as continuing news of his brother's and sister's progress at the Shibusen was received at home, Sato blew through his years in junior high school with relatively little difficulty, forsaking many of his previous social activities to ensure his place at the top of the test listings - although completely oblivious to it himself, many of his actions in those regards were mistaken for arrogance and a self absorbed ego, resulting in something akin to passive ostracism as his junior high years came to a close. The next three years, however, would mark many of the more drastic changes to come in Satoru's life.
As Satoru began his senior high school years on Tokyo's mainland (as Aogashima lacked such a school), and in an attempt to broaden his skill set for any possible university or job applications he began to look at extracurricular activities and clubs, eventually joining the programming club - as with most things involving memory, repetition and/or pattern recognition Satoru quickly found himself to be naturally skilled with talking to computers and getting them to do what he wanted, eventually going so far as to consider computer related careers as alternate options aside from the medical profession. As his first year slowly began to crawl by Satoru, though, the teen would eventually begin to struggle with the same ability that had drawn the Shibusen's attention to his older siblings - as his soul perception's sensitivity increased his ability to control it proportionally lessened, and after several months began to actively interfere with his ability to sleep and by extension concentrate during the daytime hours. Through sheer force of will - in other words, stubborn attitude alone - however, Satoru persisted with his daily activities.
As his first year in senior high school ended, though, Satoru's world would be turned upside down as the Shibusen contacted his family that summer to inform them of the death of his oldest sibling as well as the fact that his sister had been crippled by the loss of her legs, her lower spinal column permanently damaged in the same hunt that had cost their brother his life. Still on the mainland when he received the news, Satoru abandoned his summer activities to rush home as his sister was brought back from overseas along with their brother's body. To say the least Satoru was shocked by the news, and completely unprepared to deal with the revelation, spending the next several weeks simply working through the days in a daze even after the funeral. The Shibusen, however, had been keeping their eye on Sato ever since the initial manifestation of his ability, and roughly two weeks after his brother's burial extended the same offer they had given to his siblings to Satoru himself. Angered by what he took as shameless nerve, Satoru was finally snapped out of his stupor by the offer and bluntly refused the offer alongside the outrage expressed by his parents, the family cutting off all contact with the academy that summer.
The next year of Satoru's academic career would pass him by much as the first had, although as the weeks progressed his attitude towards the world around him would start to become increasingly jaded and cynical, eventually abandoning the medical path he had aspired to in favor of his programming talents, viewing machines as being much easier to deal with than other people. Even as Satoru made the shift in his academic career, though, the issues concerning his soul perception would only continue to worsen, eventually growing to the point where it was keeping him awake for days at a time and costing him in terms of mistakes he normally would never had made. Not one to turn to any form of medication after his early childhood, Satoru spent the next several months attempting to simply work through the condition through force of sheer willpower as he had before, but as that academic year ended and Satoru went his first full week without any form of rest he finally conceded that he needed help getting some form of control over his ability. Initially turning to his sister who had attended the Shibusen for possessing the same talent he did - if in a weaker form - it quickly became apparent that professional aid was needed, and against their parents' judgement Satoru contacted the Shibusen after a year of silence. Biting his tongue and issuing a formal apology for the sudden dismissal the previous year, Satoru enlisted in the academy, transferring to the North American school at the beginning of that academic year.

Behind the strings
Alias: SloppySlate

Face Claim: Kousaka Kyousuke from Ore no Imouto ga Konna ni Kawaii Wake ga Nai
RP Sample:
Typically speaking, most people who seemed to constantly feel like someone was staring over their shoulders would have been labelled as paranoid or deluded, unfit for society as they were for an entire laundry list of different reasons varying from erratic behavior to self destructive actions. That being said, though, it only applied when there was no legitimate reasoning behind their apparent delusions.
Sitting towards the back of the classroom in what was to be his new school for at least the next foreseeable year, Satoru lamented over how annoying it was to be perfectly sane but to still understand the feelings behind people he normally would have gone out of his way to avoid. No, scratch that - it wasn't being able to understand so much as comprehend. What had begun as a mere sensation that he was never really alone as far back as two years ago had frankly grown far beyond his ability to control, and it was only thanks to his particular gift regarding memory that he was even able to really function anymore - even then, though, it typically required going back over whatever stimuli he intended to respond to in his head. How his brother and sister had put up with it, he had no freaking idea.
Not that it was particularly welcome in an environment such as this, either. Being at the back of the classroom admittedly helped since he could physically see everyone in the room, but having well over 30 people all crammed well within the radius of his Soul Perception was almost like having someone constantly grating their nails on a chalkboard - it had cost him countless nights of sleep back in his other school's dorm in a city, and while Death City wasn't nearly as densely populated he was still finding it more of a nuisance than the gift that most people had praised his older siblings for. Maybe a large part of it was his now rather cynical view of the world as opposed to his perspective a year ago, but it was not a pleasant sensation to feel constantly aware of every single living soul within yelling distance around him.
Even as Satoru lost himself to the teacher's voice ahead of him in an attempt to drown out the sensation of having many more people than he would have liked around him, however, the teen became aware of movement in the hallway just beyond the classroom walls - as much as he hated and disliked the ability, Satoru had to admit that it came with one or two perks, and began to pack away his notes and writing utensils only moments before the teacher dismissed the class. Standing from his chair and bringing a hand up to rub at his sleep deprived eyes, Satoru couldn't help but feel that it was going to be a very, very long day.

Alright, this guy needs just a tiiiny bit of tweaking.
His Soul Perception is far too powerful for someone in the NOT class, but we can compromise this. Cut the yard radius to ten if you want to keep it that this ability is passive to him, or cut it to twenty if you want to make it activated which it generally is. Of course, you could always simply bump him up into the One Star class if you really wanted to keep the yardage high, but you’d still need to cut it to thirty at the least.
You also need to add the series your character’s faceclaim is from.
Lastly, you’re missing two little things that you can find by reading the General and Character Rules.
Other than those little things, I love this character, he looks fantastic!
