{Outfit} 56). Using complete sentences, please compare and contrast the benefits and detriments of using firearms as opposed to swords against a Kishin egg that has armor. Use specific examples from the readi-Her pencil lead snapped, breaking Chiyo out of her zen study state. She had angrily been focused on her homework for the past - Chiyo checked her phone - three hours already. She put her pencil down and sat back in her chair, feeling strangely disoriented. She hadn't been herself since yesterday, when she had stormed into her house and locked herself in her room until the next morning. The disgusting confrontation with that guy had left a sour taste in her mouth and a scary look on her face. No. Calm down, she thought to herself, forcing herself to take several deep breaths. Her work was scattered over the library table, which she was lucky to have to herself. The study area was packed today, and the low hum of whispered talking was all around, although it was oddly comforting to be surrounded by many people, although with every person that walked by Chiyo hoped they wouldn't ask to share her table. It was large enough to seat at least six, and she was crowded at one end, but so far everyone had seen her dark expression and given her a wide berth, unbeknownst to her. In any case, the rest of the tables were fairly full, and although Chiyo didn't mind sharing her table, the small island of solitude in the crowd of people fit her mood just fine. She wasn't in the mood for small talk, especially not with those of the male persuasion. Ever since yesterday, when she was basically assaulted by some total stranger, she had been giving people a wide berth, especially hoping not to run into that demon again, but so far so good. The day had been incredibly boring, which suited her just fine. She clicked her pencil a few times and began answering the problem in her workbook, opening "The Basics of Demon Weaponry" and turning to her bookmark. There was a test coming up, and she wasn't about to fall behind because of one sleaze. If anything, her fury at the situation only increased her work ethic, and she soon found herself writing away, cramming notes into the small space allowed for answers.

First train the body then train the mind. The words from one of Cyrus’s earlier classes had stuck with him as he went through a planned routine for the day. First there was class obviously but after that ended he had gone back to the dorms and changed into more exercise friendly clothes. Going to the firing range and then a run had fulfilled the body part he believed. Tidying up from the workout he donned his usual school attire and returned to train his mind. The library was an obvious place to go and it was exactly what he needed.
It had taken him maybe ten minutes to find what he was looking for but some simple inquiry had made the task quite easy. The books he looked for were in the unofficial NOT section of the library and that alone was enough to motivate him not to need this too often. Either way he picked up four averagely sized books and began his search for a place to sit and read. Unfortunately it looked like there were a majority of people also making use of the library so seating options were a bit limited. Most of the tables were filled with books, people, or both. There was hardly much room for the British meister.
With some luck he spotted an open area at a table that only seemed to be occupied by one person. The space did generally surprise him but after he drew closer he may have understood why. The lone inhabitant of the table was a rather cute Asian girl but she seemed to be in a bit of a sour mood. Looking around there didn’t seem to be many other options available to him so he hoped she wouldn’t mind too much if he took up a little section of the table.
Making his way to the table he carefully found a spot away from the girl and her books and sat down. Placing his stack of books on the table he adjusted his glasses and looked at the girl with a smile ”I hope you don’t mind if I sit here, I’ll try not to disturb you but please tell me if I do.” His voice little more than a whisper he really hoped he wouldn’t do anything to contribute to her bad mood.
Now that he had found a table and hopefully quenched any hostility he looked at his stack of books. “A Starter’s Guide to Soul Wavelength”, “Meister Basics”, “Introduction to Demon Weapons ”, and “Madness and Corruption: A Beginner’s Guide to Kishin”. Sighing at his own ignorance of the subjects before him he picked up “Meister Basics” and cracked it open. Flipping to the first page he set the book against the table and began to read. With any luck this would help him be a better meister and be more prepared for future missions.

99.) A Kishin has been spotted in a warehouse and you have approached unnoticed. Using examples from your reading, please formulate a battle strategy factoring the element of surprise as well as the layout of the warehouse. (See Practice Problem 5.6 in your Beginner's Guide to Kishin book.)
Chiyo began reading the next problem on her list of study questions, but a voice interrupted her. She looked up, slightly surprised and a little annoyed that her concentration had been disturbed, but she gestured at the seat as politely as possible. "Go ahead," she said to the young man, shuffling her papers closer to her to make room before returning to her homework. Her grasp on written English had improved quite a lot since she had come to America, but there were still some words she didn't quite understand. She wished Bang was studying with her so she could ask her what "formulate" meant. Bang had helped her English quite a lot - in the few weeks she'd known her Weapon partner, she had found herself understanding more and speaking less hesitantly, something she was quite grateful for. Sometimes, like now, she'd stumble over words she wasn't quite familiar with. She could understand the question fairly well, though. Time to draw up a battle plan.
She reached for her copy of "Madness and Corruption: A Beginner’s Guide to Kishin," but realized she hadn't brought it. Stomach sinking, she rooted through her book-bag, but the search proved fruitless. She sighed, staring at her notes and wondering if the library had more copies on the shelf. Sneaking a look over at the other occupant of her study table, she saw with a start he had the exact book she needed.
The geisha found herself waffling for a moment, a crisis on her hands. She didn't really want to talk to this guy, but she really needed the book to help with the study problem. After a good minute of deliberation, Chiyo finally gave in, sighing as she turned in her chair and scooted it over slightly. "Eto...Excuse me," she said, ignoring her pronunciation issues, "may I borrow this book for moment?" She pointed to indicate which one. "Just for a few minute," she added, feeling her face turning pink with embarrassment. Being unprepared always made her anxious, especially since her grade relied on a stranger's kindness.

Receiving the ok from the girl studying Cyrus felt better about taking his position at the table. Reading through the book was certainly enlightening for the new meister and was shedding some light on topics he was unfamiliar with. Being a rather quick reader it didn’t take too long for him to get through the opening chapter of the book. Finishing the chapter he had an idea and sat it down only to pull a small notebook out of his pocket and a pen along with it, taking some notes might be useful. Reopening the book he began the next chapter and began to scribble down interesting bits.
Jotting down notes about how had the potential to manipulate their soul wavelength through different areas of the body Cyrus was quite enthralled. The idea of being able to use his soul wavelength as an attack itself in case an enemy got too close or he couldn’t use Lavender was fascinating to him. He really did need to read through all these books so he could gain an understanding about how his own body worked by itself and in relation to others. Cyrus was excited to continue reading and get to the chapter about this new concept of soul purge.
In the process of flipping a page he heard a voice close to him and looked up. Oh so it was the other girl sitting at the table who needed something. Catching the few slip ups in her speech he couldn’t tell if she was just nervous or wasn’t as familiar with English. Either way it didn’t take much to figure out what she was asking of him. Pulling the indicated book out of his stack he handed it over to the girl with a smile to reassure her.
”Here you go. Do what you need; I’ve got plenty of other books to read through before I need that one.”
It was the last book he planned on going through anyway. Learning about kishin would undoubtedly be useful but he intended to figure out all he could about meisters, weapons, and wavelengths first. Finished handing the girl his book Cyrus returned to reading about meisters and their aptitude for wavelength manipulation.

"Thank you," Chiyo replied gratefully, taking the book from him and opening to the correct page. She was happy that she'd asked him for the book - as she read through and turned back to her homework, the studying went a lot smoother. Within the next ten minutes, she had finished the rest of the 110 assigned practice problems. It was with a satisfied smile that she put her pencil down and pushed her papers away slightly. She was going to knock that test out, even if her English wasn't the best. She looked over her notes happily, marveling at the neat words and sentences. She'd come a long way. Her grandmother would be proud of her progress - maybe she'd show her study notes to her and get a second opinion.
Picking up the borrowed book in her hands and flipping through it, Chiyo was closing the back cover when she noticed something. The library card within had been stamped with dates and names in ink, to show who had the book and when. Chiyo took a moment to read through some of the names. There was such variety here! A couple of names she recognized as Japanese, but some were foreign and unfamiliar to her. The last name on the card read Cyrus Owen. Sneaking a peek over at the boy at her table, Chiyo wondered if that was his name. With a mental shrug, she replaced the card and closed the book. It wasn't any of her business. She would probably never see him again, so it wasn't useful information anyways. She didn't need the book anymore, so it was time to return it.
She held the book out to the boy, but realized he was deep in concentration. "Excuse me," she said again, "Thank you for book. Very helpful," she added with a small smile. Finishing her homework had improved her mood somewhat. And the boy had been very kind to lend the book to her - if she was anything but polite she would have been disappointed in herself, although she felt more like her old self. The bad taste of yesterday's meeting with the demon was almost gone.

Reading about the way a meister could manipulate their wavelength was fascinating to Cyrus. He had a basic grasp with his own application of soul perception but otherwise he was clueless. Learning that there was a way to weaponize the wavelength directly into an attack intrigued him. Even more so did an advanced topic that the book mentioned that involved attuning one’s own wavelength to disrupt or negate another’s wavelength. It was far above anything he could hope to do at the moment but it did give him an idea about what he could work towards. Cyrus could only imagine what he would find out from the other books and any more advanced ones he found.
Setting down the book Cyrus saw that the girl was still making use of his other book and picked up another from his pile. “An Introduction to Demon Weapons” was next and he began to flip through the pages. The book was much less specialized as the other and covered a wider expanse of topics, stemming from the history of demon weapons and into some of the more notable weapons through history. Covering some abilities common in distinct types of weapons as well the book was full of information Cyrus could benefit from.
His focus on the book was broken when he heard a voice. Looking up he saw that the girl he had lent the book to was seemingly done with it. Taking the book she handed to him Cyrus returned with a smile of his own. ”No problem, I’m glad to help.” Taking the returned book he placed it at the bottom of the pile of books he had. He would ease his way into that one after he had a basic understanding of the others. Finished setting up his books he turned back to the girl.
”Anything else you need help with? I am rather new here myself but I can try if there is anything.”
She did seem to be fine but it never hurt to ask. Perhaps she did need some assistance or maybe he could even be helped by her with something.

Chiyo couldn't help but feel slightly patronized. Was it because of her accent? Why did he think she needed help? She had already borrowed the book she needed and was finished. If he was new, she should be the one helping him. Was he implying she was helpless? Chiyo was insulted, and also paranoid. The encounter yesterday had made her distrustful and suspicious, although she hadn't noticed her behavior. Everything was in her head, but she was still so shaken...
"No," she said, slightly curtly. "No help. Thank you." Her tone signalled the end of the conversation, and she withdrew into her corner of the table, angrily pulling out one of her own books and staring at it with focused intensity. After a moment, she turned the book over right-side up, her face red with embarrassment. Hopefully the other occupant at the table hadn't noticed her gaffe.
The longer she sat there, the more anxious she was. What if this guy insulted her too? She wasn't going to wait around and find out. She began packing up her things, neatly setting her books within her satchel and filing her papers away in a binder. She didn't care if she was being childish - she had had quite enough of boys being complete and utter assholes for taste, and maybe the boy at the end of the table had only been trying to be polite but Chiyo was in no mood to deal with it.
She shoved her pencils roughly inside the rose pencil bag, but in her haste she dropped one of her favorite pencils, a cute pink one with a moon-and-stars motif. It rolled down the table and was stopped by the boy's hand. Chiyo glared at the pencil, as if it had turned traitor despite being an inanimate object. She exhaled, annoyed, and, pushing her chair away from the table and standing up, once again returned to the other side of the table. She didn't sit down, but instead stared at the boy, hand outstretched. "My pencil," she said flatly, making no attempt to be polite anymore.

Cyrus may have been most observant with his eyes but he could still detect the tone in her voice that made it clear she hadn’t taken too kindly to something he said. He wasn’t sure what it was that he could have done to evoke such a reaction but he would rather not press his luck too much and end up truly upsetting her. For all he knew they might have to go on a mission together in the future or perhaps work together in a class at the least and he would rather not make enemies of a fellow student if he could avoid it.
Returning to his book Cyrus didn’t notice how her book was upside-down and focused his attention on absorbing as much information as he could. Reading about all these new concepts made him wonder if any of his old talents would be useful at this school. Kishin and meisters went beyond what he was used to as normal and seemed to transcend the boundaries that he was familiar with. He had experienced this much on his own with what control he had of his soul perception. Even the weapons behaved different than the weapons he was used to, they operated by their own rules it seemed.
Caught up in his thoughts he only paid the slightest bit of attention to the girl packing up her things. He hoped he hadn’t upset her too badly but if by chance he had there wasn’t much he could do to fix it, at least not even knowing what he had done in the first place. Deciding it best to not do anything to bother her Cyrus figured he would continue with his studies and then give a friendly good-bye when she left. That should at least end things on a somewhat positive note for everyone.
That was his plan at least until he was met with something coming into contact with his hand. Not expecting it he glanced up from his book to see the offending pencil that had rolled into him. It clearly wasn’t his and by the audible reactions from the girl he assumed it belonged to her, her walking over and essentially demanding it cleared that up simply enough. Picking it up he extended his hand so the pencil was within the grasp if her outstretched hand, his grip loose so she could easily take it from him.
”Here you go. Good luck with whatever it is you needed the book for.”
That seemed safe enough of a thing to say. He really did hope she had gotten what she needed out of the book and that it would prove useful for her in the future. He was still grasping for the basics but with any luck both of them could succeed as capable meisters, or weapon if that was what she was. The book seemed like something a meister would be more likely to check out but it could probably be useful for a weapon as well, either way his desire remained the same.

Chiyo hesitated, but picked up the pencil gently.
Oh.
She suddenly felt a wash of shame run over her, causing her cheeks to turn red. She had acted so rashly, hadn't she? He didn't mean to do anything. He was just studying. He hadn't been offended by her brusque tone, either. Chiyo felt her face turn aflame in embarrassment.
"I...am sorry," she said, clutching her pencil tightly in her hand against her chest. She looked down, apologetic, feeling rotten. "I...have not had...a good day." she trailed off. No, excuses were too cheap. She had acted stubbornly. She bowed to him, still clutching the pencil against her chest. "I acted poorly," she said. "You lent me the book, and I..." she struggled with the word. She wished Bang Bang was here. "I acted poorly," she repeated, at a loss. "Forgive me and my mood." And my accent, she thought. It was still very thick, although her English was improving.
She walked back over to her seat, feeling considerably downhearted. I need to be less suspicious of people, she scolded herself. He lent me his book and I repaid him by being cold and rude.
Not behavior fitting...well, really anyone. This boy wasn't the one who called her a prostitute. He was just a student who had shown her kindness. Chiyo packed the rest of her things and walked back over to the boy.
"Please, allow me to apo-lo-gize." She said, stumbling over the English slightly. The long words always threw her off a little. "May I?"
It was possible he hadn't even noticed her moodiness.
It was more likely that he was politely ignoring it, in hopes not to rile her up further. Chiyo hoped he would let her make it up to him. He didn't deserve her temper, especially when he had done nothing wrong.

he was hesitant to pick up her pencil and the action confused Cyrus after her previous display of demanding he hand it to her. It seemed plainly obvious that the girl wanted this pencil and wanted it now, hesitation hardly seemed like the proper action to take in such a situation. Honestly he expected her to snatch it out of his hand and walk off with a switch of her clothes and be gone, his mind pictured this with her nose in the air but that may have just been him imagining Lavender in the situation. As amusing as that image was the girl in front of him seemed to be blushing for some reason and it only added to his confusion.
Those were certainly not the words he was expecting to hear from the girl. If he thought she would say anything to him it was a quick word of thanks dripping in sarcasm not an actual apology. Words aside at least she had retrieved her pencil so he didn’t have to focus on that little bit of information anymore. Listening to the girl apologize it was clear that she truly meant what she was saying and wanted him to understand.
Not sure how to respond to the sudden apology he remained silent as she walked over and gathered the rest of her things. He wouldn’t be surprised if she wanted to just leave the library and just put this whole thing behind her. To his surprise she returned to him instead of leaving and even talked to him again. Her accent did make things somewhat difficult to understand but he could make out what she was saying. He wasn’t exactly sure what she meant by apologizing but she seemed sincere enough and if that was the case he didn’t want to make her feel worse if she was already having a bad day. Adopting a smile he responded to the girl in hopes that they could clear things up and be on good terms with each other.
”I get it. Everyone has bad days once in a while. I forgive you, beside I probably didn’t help things considering I didn’t know you were having a bad day. If you want to apologize go ahead, I’d love to clear up any misunderstandings.”

Chiyo nodded, her expression serious. "No, no. You didn't know. I didn't mean to..." she searched for the word. "...Offend? Offend you," she said. "Please let me..." Shoot. Another word she was stuck on. What was it - she had just said it -
She gave up and, putting her things down, pulled out the chair that was directly opposite from the boy and sat down. She grabbed her notebook, flipping to her notes, and tapped the book Cyrus was currently holding. "I can help," she said, holding up her notes as if that was an explanation. "You're new, I'm not." She laid her notebook down on the study desk, giving the kid an expectant look. Maybe helping him with his homework would make up for the rude way she'd treated him. He probably was a little confused by her behavior, but ever since coming to Shibusen, she'd been on edge. A new country, a new language. She'd made a good friend in her Weapon partner, but the run-in with that boy in the dojo really had soured her opinion of the general population of the school at large.
One jerk wasn't going to bring her down. Time to make a friend.
In any case, the more male friends Chiyo had, the less likely that scary demon would hang around her. Her chest tightened in anxiety, but she shook it off. I don't want to think of that right now.
Oh. First, maybe she should tell him what his name was. Chiyo put a hand on her chest. "My name is Chiyo," she said, introducing herself. Next, she held her hand out towards the blonde boy in front of her, waiting for his own introductions.
She hoped her inconsistent attitude hadn't made him hate her. She'd feel terrible if she lost out on a potential friend because of her own fear.

Cyrus hoped he was understanding her reasoning and that he could make amends for upsetting her earlier. Judging by the expression on her face however it felt like he was missing something important. Listening to her speak he started to piece together a little bit of what was going on, if only slightly. Something must have happened to put her in a bad mood before he encountered her, or at least that’s what he took from her saying he didn’t know. She also seemed to think she had offended him by her actions, which was understandable if untrue.
He wasn’t entirely sure what she was going to do next but he watched as she took the chair opposite him and took a seat in it. Still somewhat confused it took him a moment to comprehend what exactly she was doing until she tapped the book he had open. Help? Oh she must mean helping him understand what he was reading about better! Well he couldn’t say no to some assistance if it would help him become better as a meister. She was also right about him being new not only to the school but the whole world of demon weapons and meisters.
He noticed the gesture and with what followed it was obviously an introduction. So Chiyo was the name of the girl then? It was interesting to meet someone new at the school who wasn’t British like Lavender was. A bit odd that Shibusen was located in America and his first encounter had been someone British like himself, and now Chiyo made his second non-American peer.
”I’m Cyrus, pleasure to meet you.”
His words carried genuine joy at meeting her that were matched by the smile on his face. Seeing her extended hand Cyrus extended his own and shook her hand. Quickly ending the shake he returned his hand to his side of the table and thought about what Chiyo had said. He could definitely use the help but he wasn’t exactly doing homework or something defined, he was just brushing up on the basics that everyone should know. Resting his hands on the book he had open Cyrus looked up at Chiyo with a bit of a half-smile.
”I’d love any help you could offer. All of this…demon weapon and kishin egg stuff is pretty new to me so I was just going over the basic things to make sure I don’t fall behind.”
