While multitasking was something Rhett was used to he did find it somewhat difficult to not get drawn completely into the game. He had played it before so that wasn’t the issue but he still enjoyed focusing on a game to complete it perfectly in the best way possible if not the fastest way. That would only take his attention away from Lior however as well as exclude her from the game that she owned, not to mention go against the whole point of why they were playing the game in the first place. For now he would just have to keep the game in the back of his mind and his main attention on the interactions with his meister, he could always play through a game later to quell his desire.
Redirecting his attention to Lior he did notice that she seemed to be enjoying the game at the least if the smile on her face was anything to go off of. For not having played before she was doing surprisingly well. He never would have expected her to be doing so well without any prior experience. Sure she might not be picking up on more technical aspects but she was surviving and shooting really well.
Well Lior wasn’t wrong. He had come from quite a ways away but he never really thought about it. Under the conditions he was in Rhett didn’t mind being so far away from home. The climate was different and he didn’t get to see his parents but in turn he didn’t have to worry about the government locking him up for being a weapon. It would almost be ironic if they did though, he could hardly be considered a weapon by his own standards but that didn’t make him safe.
Chicago seemed like a good place to be from. Rhett wouldn’t have assumed Chicago would be where Lior was from though. Clearly America was her country of origin but unless he really concentrated he couldn’t pinpoint any particular accent for her. Now that she said where she was from however he could pick out the faintest bit of an accent if he focused on it. It was certainly interesting to learn little things like that about someone and he hope it would prove useful later on. What was his family like? That was an unusual question. Thinking about how to answer he redirected his attention onto the game and cleared away any incoming enemies he saw.
”Um well…I guess my family is pretty normal. My mom stays at home and my dad is a construction worker. Nothing really noteworthy, we just sort of blend in and get by…for the most part.”
Himself being the exception to that. The one weapon among the regular humans that just happened to stand out with his weapon blood and asthma.
”So what about your family?”

Lior had a feeling that her definition of normal was a touch different than Rhett’s, but that wasn’t necessarily a bad thing. To hear his father was in construction was somewhat amusing to her if only for the irony considering her partner’s Weapon form. Her smile widened into a grin for a moment but Lior managed to rein it in soon enough. A construction worker and a stay at home mother. Lior wondered what Rhett would think of her family, then, if that was his normal.
And, wouldn’t you know it, that was just was he asked about next. Granted Lior wasn’t too surprised by this. She had asked about his family, it was only fair and also logical that he would in turn ask about hers. She thought for a moment, trying to get the words to do what she wanted in her head first. In the meantime she turned a corner in the game and nearly ran headlong into a group of oncoming enemies. She ducked back, adjusted the camera, and fixed her mistake though. She was glad she turned out to be so good at the whole shooting aspect of the game, otherwise that would have been an issue. With that done, she finally answered, trying to shove down the grin again as it tried to worm its way onto her face,
“Somewhat different, I suppose. My mother is a lawyer and has to travel a great deal; she deals mainly in business contracts. My father is home even less. He’s in the diamond trade.”
Lior paused only briefly to check around another corner, carefully this time to avoid any mishaps, before continuing,
“I have two brothers as well, one older and one younger. The older is currently attending Yale and the younger just started high school, though I suspect he may attend Shibusen as well once he’s a bit older. He’s a Meister just like me.”
Or, rather, the only way he’s like me. Lior tried not to dwell on it. Keeping a light smile on her face she glanced at Rhett,
“They’re what I know as normal, save for me.”
Her smile faltered but she got it back. Didn’t she just tell her self she wouldn’t dwell on it? The albino attempted to steer her focus back on the game and think of something else to ask, though nothing immediately came to mind. What next? There were a few things, but she really wasn’t sure which to choose or which was appropriate, or which would help in actually getting to know her partner better. Idly panning the camera as they moved through what she thought was a suspiciously quiet area of the game, she pondered what to do next.

Rhett expected that Lior’s family would be a bit different from his own but he wasn’t sure exactly what to expect, just being in this house made it plainly clear that there were quite a few differences between the two of them. Even so he wasn’t expecting the response that Lior gave. Well if her parents did that it explained why she was living in such a large house even so far away from home. After hearing Lior’s story Rhett couldn’t help but think about how much the two seemed to contrast each other. From their role in Shibusen, number of siblings, to their families’ income they just seemed to not just differ but manage the opposite.
The differences weren’t necessarily bad things though. If what he read was true the differences only helped to strengthen the power of resonance when two could match their wavelengths. That was something positive to think about when comparing the two of them. Of course Rhett couldn’t ignore just how large of a difference there was between them and that did worry him slightly. It didn’t seem like they were too different from each other to not get along though so his worry was minimal.
He did catch the end of what she said but the words didn’t exactly register for him. What could that even mean in relation to Lior anyway? Not sure exactly how to respond he ignored what she said and just let it pass by. Lior seemed not to dwell on it too much and moved onto focusing on the game. If that was her response it only seemed fitting to do the same. Putting his attention back onto the game Rhett let his focus primarily stay on that.
”Your family sounds really interesting.” Taking a moment to focus on the game when everything was clear he returned his attention to Lior. ”So any other questions?”

Lior smiled. She and Rhett may have come from entirely different backgrounds, but at least that didn’t seem to be getting in the way. The albino glanced briefly at her Weapon after taking out a few enemies hiding in the corner, “So does yours.” As for any other questions she may have had, Lior was hitting a wall. Adopting a pensive expression, she attempting to think up…well, anything. But nothing really came to mind. For once she wished she were nosier, but then that could also be a bad thing in her experience.
For a moment, she certainly felt awkward. It was her who had suggested this whole get together so that they could bond more as a team, but now she had no idea where to go next with it. Lior drew so deep into thought she almost looked like she was pouting, staring ahead at the game and firing head shots with a criminal amount of ease. The fluidity of such activities didn’t help her thoughts, though. Sighing, the timid smile she usually wore returned, appearing slightly apologetic as she turned muted ruby eyes on her partner. “I suppose not. I can’t really think of anything,” she said.
Granted that didn’t mean that it had to be over. Technically she said she couldn’t think of any more questions, but then of course the next words out of her mouth were formed as one. Tilting her head, she took advantage of the brief clear area in the game to scratch the chinchilla that was dozing between them behind the ears. “What about you? Is there anything else you’d like to ask me?”
It seemed like a proper thing to inquire about. Just because Lior couldn’t think of anything she particularly needed to know about Rhett didn’t mean that he wasn’t curious about her in some way. She found herself smiling a bit more, though. Here she’d been so nervous before he arrived, and while she was still far from confident with the situation, she couldn’t help but acknowledge that she was still enjoying his company. Lior wondered if it was a team thing or a friend thing. She found herself hoping it was a bit of both.

Hearing Lior’s comment that his family sounded interesting caused Rhett some confusion. His family wasn’t anything special they were just the ordinary. If he thought about it he was probably the most unusual thing about his family by being a demon weapon. From what he had heard about her family his barely reaching the minimum middle class family didn’t exactly sound like something that could be considered interesting. Lior’s face took on a different expression and Rhett couldn’t exactly decide what it was trying to express. It didn’t seem to be related to his family so maybe she was just thinking of a new question.
That did seem to be the case when Lior answered his unspoken question. So she didn’t have any more questions for him then? There was only so much they could get about each other from a back and forth sessions like this. It would probably be more efficient to just spend time with each other and pick up things like that, let the knowledge flow more naturally. There was the other advantage of her not having asked him about his interest so he didn’t have to reveal exactly how much of a weeaboo he was. That was probably something better found out gradually.
She managed to turn the question around onto him and he wasn’t sure how to handle it. There wasn’t anything too pressing that he wanted to know plus asking the wrong questions could lead to overload like her house nearly did. Asking how much money she has was one of those questions he would rather not ask. Outside of that there wasn’t really anything he needed to know right now that couldn’t wait until they just learned about each other from being partners. Focusing on playing the game Rhett headed for a check point.
”I guess I’m at a loss for questions too. We can wrap things up here I guess and do it again some other time.”
Hanging out with Lior again would be fun but he would need to get used to such a large house slowly or it might overwhelm him. Maybe after some time to adjust he would be better just showing up to such a large and fancy house. Maybe next time they would even be one stars and be ready to take on real missions.
