Menke; Lior; Meister
Name: Lior Menke
Nickname: N/A
Age: 17
Gender: Female
Race: Meister
Position: Student
Class: NOT
Partner: Rhett Minsky
A Strong Body
Picture:
Appearance: Lior isn’t someone you’d see everyday in that she is albino. Her skin is extremely pale from an inherent lack of melanin and is highly susceptible to sunburn. Her hair is white and falls to the small of her back in gentle waves, curling more at the ends. Lior possesses eyes that have a muted red coloration. In albinism, the red the eyes the worse their eyesight will be. As a result, Lior has incredibly poor eyesight, unable to see three feet in front of her naturally. To remedy this she wears contact lenses throughout the duration of the day, switching to glasses with simple red frames when she’s at home later in the evening or earlier in the morning. Given her practice in Krav Maga, Lior has a fair bit of muscle tone to her, though what you’re more likely to notice is her curvy outline. Lior has an impressive chest, thin waist, and wide hips, giving her one hell of an hourglass figure. She sports a small scar at her hairline on her let temple from a rock thrown by a rather insistent bully when she was in grade school. She also has several smaller scars along her right forearm from where a dog bit her when she was a little girl.
In terms of what she wears, fashion seems to be Lior’s attempt to make up for color she lacks. Bright colors and bold patterns appear in hall of her outfits, neutral colors along with black appearing very rarely. Wearing white is not a thing that happens. Being from an extremely rich family, Lior dresses like a proper young lady. Dresses that generally fall to the knee or just above and expensive looking jewelry grace her person; skirts that flare and tops that aren’t too low cut. She prefers skirts, but she does have a few sets of jeans for busier work. Most of her shoes are heels, not that flats are foreign to her. Looking casual isn’t a strong suit of hers, and Lior always carries around a parasol for added protection from sunlight.
Height: 5’8”
Weight: 150lbs
Fighting Style: Since she was young, Lior’s parents enrolled in her Krav Maga lessons. A form of self defense, she is well versed in the series of striking techniques, wrestling, and grappling. Lior is very reliant on the grappling in Krav Maga, most often attempting to grab opponents and shifting her weight in ways that either allow her to lift them up or slam them into the ground and pin them. She lunges for opponents but hangs back, keeping her stance steady. Having learned it as a coping mechanism from being bullied and teased, Lior hasn't actually used her skill in Krav Maga outside of lessons and practices.
Personality: Having lived a rather sheltered life, Lior is a very shy around strangers. She blushes and talks in a very quiet voice, generally trying to get through the situation as quickly as possible and move along with her day. Once she knows she isn’t going to be teased or bullied, she gradually starts to open up to people. By default, Lior is very courteous and polite. She speaks softly and with words and sentence structure that makes it clear that she is a member of the upper class and high society. With a timid smile and perfect posture, she has every ability to appear elegant, poised, and very much a proper young lady.
For all her kindness, Lior is exceptionally anxious. Years of being taunted and bullied for her albinism have mad her suspicious of others and given her trust issues. She’s constantly worried that people she knows will decide she really is strange and leave her, or turn on her at some point. She keeps these things to herself for the most part, but don’t be surprised if she appears worried an awful lot. For the friends she does have, Lior is exceptionally kind and encouraging. She aims to treat people with the respect and confidence that she was never given in her younger years by her peers, hoping that they will never feel the way she did and still does.
As sheltered as this one is, she is open to new experiences. It’s out of an interest in the world more than anything. Lior is familiar with ballrooms, sprawling estates, and high end fashion boutiques. There’s a lot she’s not used to and has never experienced before, and she’s as eager as she is cautious to learn more about the world as a result. She is surprisingly adaptable to new situations, but that’s more out of her keeping up appearances and taking note of easy escapes should things turn out to make her feel uncomfortable or anxious. She also is entirely unused to receiving compliments on her appearance, and allusions to such will often have her flustered and turning red, denying up and down that such statements are true. She’ll fidget and stare and eventually just remain silent and looking distant if they insist.
Few things can manage to frustrate Lior, but a lack of discipline and blatant insensitivity are two that always manage to get her wound up. She’ll turn stern and terse and very apparently displeased. The more irritated she gets, the more her proper way of speaking lapses into her sounding exactly like where she is from, her Chicago accent becoming readily apparent rather than vague and appearing more like she belongs to a mafia family rather than an upstanding Jewish one. Truly angering takes time, but she is hardly likely to be violent. She’s more one for talking down and slinging insults than throwing punches, though her clenched fists may begin to spark if she grows irate.
In scenarios where Lior is extremely out of her element, she can begin to feel so anxious she starts to tear up. Being as delicate as she is, Lior will attempt to just blink them back or subtly swipe them away before tears fall, but she may also attempt to excuse herself if she knows she sure that tears are coming. While she’s not one to all out sob, she does weep silently and feel absolutely pathetic and silly for getting so worked up in the face of something she’s not used to. Thankfully a few kind words from those she’s close to can usually calm her down and put a shy smile back on her face.
Inside the Soul
Abilities: Lior has the ability to use Soul Purge. Given her skill in Krav Maga, she seeks to incorporate it in a similar fashion. If using it, Lior will aim to get a grappling hold on her opponent and then draw back her right hand, aiming her Soul Purge at either their chest or stomach. Being a beginning at the ability in the NOT class, she isn’t perfect at gathering her wavelength so at present the shock isn’t much to write home amount, but it still does its job at a basic level at least. She can currently only discharge a Soul Purge from her right, dominant hand.

History: Born to Sarah and Eli Menke on July 1st, Lior was the second child out of three. Her older brother Asher was the first and the third was her younger brother Tom. Being the middle child, one would think Lior wouldn’t have gotten the most attention in her childhood; however this was not the case. She was born albino, meaning special precautions would need to be taken to keep her from being harmed in sunlight. This was not especially surprising though. Both of her parents had albino in one of their own parents each, so they had been suspicious that at least one of their children would be born as such. Still, they were concerned from the get go about Lior’s health. Every window in the house was covered in thick, heavy curtains if she was present in the room, and her mother was always persistent about covering her daughter from head to toe in sunscreen if she wanted to play outside. As she got older, she simply grew accustomed to wearing sunscreen to wander outside at all. It was also discovered rather quickly that her eyesight was very poor from her continuously bumping into things and being startled by someone being suddenly close, so she wore glasses until she was old enough to wear contact lenses.
Apart from being constantly wary of the sun, Lior’s childhood was essentially picture perfect. Her family was wealthy and her mother tended to spoil her rotten at any given chance, although Lior didn’t always appreciate being coddled so much. She spent much of her time playing with her younger brother, graduating to babysitter once she was older. Her older brother was always looking out for his sister, particularly once she started school. Lior was enrolled at a private school near the family’s upscale home in Chicago. Right away she stuck out like a sore thumb and was immediately the target of bullying. Lior didn’t take well to being teased about her appearance and spent many recesses in the girl’s bathroom either hiding from bullies or crying.
On one worse occasion, a group of older girls threw rocks at her, one of them giving her the scar near her hairline and warranting a trip to the ER. Asher wasn’t about to stand by and let his sister suffer and took to either chasing off the bullies or cussing them out in Yiddish. After the incident Lior went to her parents who contacted the school in an uproar about their little girl's treatment by the other students and also enrolled their daughter in Krav Maga lessons, thinking that if she knew how to defend herself she wouldn’t be picked on quite so much.
While Krav Maga did help with her self confidence a bit, the bullying only got worse as she got older. By the time she was ten, her parents had pulled Lior out of school and had hired private tutors to home school her. Becoming even more sheltered, Lior tried to focus all the spare time she had productively in things she was interesting. She learned piano and violin, and spent many hours immersed in books. Dance was thrown into the mix to keep her busy and Lior learned ballet, waltz, swing, and others. Gradually, she replaced the absence of friends with music and movement, receiving most of her socialization from family members and the house staff. If she went outside, she spent most of the time in the backyard in the gardens looking at all the pretty flowers. On one occasion though a mean stay dog managed to dig under the older walls at the back of the property. It bit Lior on her right forearm and gave the poor thing several scars and a fear of dogs, not to mention an unpleasant trip to the ER once again for rabies shots just in case,
Just before her Bat Mitvah, Lior would discover her Meister abilities. While practicing Krav Maga with her instructor, one of the strikes she threw seemed to push a small burst of energy through her right fist, causing him to stumble back a bit. Her mother being present, she wandered over and asked Lior if she could do it again. Once sure that her daughter was able to repeat the process, Lior’s mother immediately smiled and told her that she was a Meister. Her parents had attended Shibusen like their parents before them and had graduated as a team. Being a Meister herself, Lior's mother was delighted that her daughter had such talents and informed her that all this meant that one day she could attend Shibusen should she choose. In coming years her younger brother, Tom, would also turn out to be a Meister as well.
The prospect of going so far away from home and her family frightened Lior, though. Having grown accustomed to spending most of her time inside and away from people, she’d grown extremely antisocial and was now very shy. Seeing this as an issue, her parents decided to try enrolling her in a normal school again for one year before she joined Shibusen, as she was interested to see what it was like and what she could do. It was something she could do to help other people, and that idea made it appealing to her. Once again in a private school, Lior still was teased some but it didn’t seem nearly as bad as in her younger years. Gradually she learned her way around but was still awkward and quiet around most people. When she turned seventeen, she moved to Shibusen to a house her parents bought for her along with her former nanny and three maids to keep her company and make sure she didn’t get lost in the city, and of course to watch over and care for their young miss.

The day had finally arrived. Lior was nothing short of terrified. She’d tried her best to mentally prepare herself for the journey to Death City and the subsequent task of joining Shibusen, but it didn’t seem to help her any. It’d been scarcely a week and already she was yearning for hearth and home. She missed her parents and her brothers, the familiar old house, and of course all of her old tutors. Lior did take some comfort in the fact that her mother had sent along three of their maids, including Abigail who’d been Lior’s nanny until she was old enough to look after herself. Having familiar faces to keep her company did make her feel better, but it wasn’t as though they could follow her around everywhere as much as she may have wanted that. She would have to learn to get around on her own without freezing up every time she noticed someone staring at her.
After taking perhaps an hour or two too long standing in front of the mirror making sure the colors of her outfit matched, the albino girl made her way downstairs. Abigail was waiting for her with a reassuring smile as always. Lior gave the older woman a timid look and did her best to not look quite so anxious although she couldn’t quite shake the expression. She’d hadn’t even left for school yet and her mind was already racing with thoughts. What if she was late? What if she couldn’t find the classroom? What if she forgot something? What if nobody wanted to be her partner? She must’ve had that deer in headlights look about her because she heard Abigail speaking to her. Lior blinked and admitted to not having been paying attention,
“I’m sorry Abigail, what were you saying just now?”
“I said you’re face will freeze that way if you aren’t careful.”
Abigail said that every time Lior pulled a face at anything while she didn’t entirely believe her old nanny, it still always managed to shock her out of her moods. It’d be terrible if her face really did freeze as one constant worried expression, she’d look even more unusual. Chuckling at the girl’s silence, Abigail put an arm around her and walked her towards the door,
“Don’t worry so much, you’re too young for it. Keep it up and all you’ll get is wrinkles. Instead of looking at this as a challenge, think of it as an opportunity. You’re in a new city and today you start attending a new school. There’s no telling what might happen and that is definitely something to be excited about.”
Lior didn’t quite see how marching off into the unknown was so exciting. She could get lost and with her complete lack of social skills she would probably wander about Death City for hours rather than ask for directions and risk people staring at her. Still, she would have to leave the house sometime; she couldn’t just stay inside for ever. Lior turned and hugged Abigail,
“Thank you Abigail, I’ll try my best.”
“That’s the spirit! Now you’d best be off, and don’t forget your parasol! There’s not a cloud in the sky today.”
Lior smiled and waved, plucking the aforementioned parasol from beside the door and taking her first step towards a new beginning.
