Others asked questions when he chose to stay silent and while he heard them and their answers Alex was not paying much attention to them. He was still lost in his morbid thoughts of what they would find when they reached the village, about whether there would be anyone left to save when they arrived, anyone sane at any rate.
Mya kept her hand on his wrist after getting his attention but Alex paid the contact about as much mind as she did. A bit more disconcerting was her stare. Ever since he started thinking about the village she had turned her attention to him and he began to wonder if maybe she was picking up on his thoughts, the same way she had conveyed her wishes to him moments ago.
He wondered what she made of it, if she could feel his worry. The answer to what she thought was probably, like on most occasions, not much; the feeling was enough to get her attention but he felt nothing through their link from her in return.
Minutes past and still she continued to stare. He let out a sigh, and occurrence that was becoming more and more common lately. He was sure she had long past lost interest in whatever feelings she felt leak from him but she had yet to turn her head or let go of his wrist.
He was beginning to realise that Mya was a being who always took the path of least resistance. It was easier to keep her hand where it was than move it, so there it stayed. It was easier to keep looking at her partner than redirect her attention, so she kept staring.
He could grow used to her staying quiet and immobile for ridiculous lengths of time but on occasion it led to some awkward moments like this one where she held his hand and stared at his face in a way that might make people think they were closer as partners than they actually were.
He was finally broken out of his thoughts when it became impossible not to notice the trees thinning on either side of the bus. Up ahead Alex could quite clearly see the clearing opening up in front of them and from this distance he could even start to make out the pillar in the middle of what must be the village.
While not particularly tall, centred as it was in the middle of the clearing it was hard to miss. It seemed to have rather forcibly replaced the building that previously occupied the same spot and Alex could vividly imagine the pillar falling from the sky and crushing the structure.
The scream that sounded out as the bus crossed some invisible boundary around the pillar sent a tingle down his spine. In the back of his mind he realised Mya had tightened her grip on his wrist. Darkness consumed the bus, blocking out what little light there was, approaching so suddenly Alex didn’t see where it came from. At almost the same time a sudden brightness flared from his side in contrast to the inky blackness as Mya took her weapon.
Alex did not need to feel the girl’s thoughts to know abandoning ship was a good idea, standing up even before she had finished wrapping around his arm, but knowing even his carefree partner saw the urgency in their situation but some extra urgency behind his movements.
Before he could take a step however, perhaps luckily as the only place he could go was into the aisle, a crescent shaped blade cut effortlessly through the bus. The impact rocked the vehicle and put him back in his seat. He grabbed the back of the seat in front as the blade began to shake and rock the bus; the driver shouted something over his shoulder at them which didn’t make much sense until he floored the gas and intentionally flipped the bus onto its side.
Alex had the misfortune to be sitting on the wrong side of the bus and when it turned he fell across the aisle and landed hard on the window opposite, shattering glass and feeling hard-packed dirt beneath his uncovered hand.
The glass broke further under his weight as he pushed himself up and got back to his feet. Looking around he saw the Meister and Weapon pair from earlier, their missions leaders, already on their feet and opening not one but two exits from the bus; at least they seemed quick on their feet.
Along with the door the driver opened this gave Alex three escape routes to choose from and with Mya’s urgency still echoing through his soul he decided to be economical and moved straight for the closest one. The emergency door in what was now the top of the bus was not the easiest route to take but by climbing up the seats beneath it Alex was able to haul himself up without much difficulty; in fact it was so easy he had to grudgingly give some respect to his father for making him climb those damn trees.
Rather than jump down Alex chose to stay atop the bus. Though it still rocked and juddered from whatever creature still impaled the roof, one which he daren’t look at, his position allowed him to help others through the exit if they needed it.

...Huh. That was the exact opposite of what Stella had been expecting Cecil to do. He actually had a question? Or perhaps he was just asking something to make her joking fall flat. But, it didn’t really seem like that. At least, not to her.
No, Cecil seemed quite serious. Hm? Why on earth would he be? Also, the question seemed a bit out of character. Cowardly, even. Now, she understood the need to know such information as much as the next guy, but Cecil asking for it? Eh. Running away didn’t seem like his style. Hadn’t, anyway. Perhaps he was just messing with her and being overly serious to really throw her off guard.
Jeez, why was she having such a hard time reading him recently?
No matter, the answer they received was more than satisfactory. It shouldn’t come to that anyway. Sure, she’d rather flee than die but she was confident enough to say that dying wasn’t very likely. It seemed that many of the teams here were less experienced than she and Cecil were, so if that wasn’t the case... they were all in trouble. Y’know, unless she did something ridiculously stupid that ended up getting her killed. While possible, she liked to think that wasn’t very likely.
But then Stella’s whole train of thought was interrupted as she noted the darkness that seemed to cloak the front of the bus. While she was capable of thinking about two things at once, this odd thing demanded her attention far more than the silly things she had been thinking about earlier.
And then? Something pierced the bus that seemed to be unexplainable. Stella instinctively covered her head. Didn’t want glass to shatter and get in her eyes. Kinda hard to fight if such a thing were to happen. She needed all of her senses to do well. Once the initial impact was done, she looked up to see what had happened. Something had impaled the bus, and she had no idea what the hell it was. It glew just about every colour she could think of. She couldn’t take her eyes off the thing!
Or, at least, that was until she felt the bus begin to topple over. That seemed to break the hex of the odd thing long enough for her to look away. Stella was lucky. She was on the passenger side of the bus. Well, perhaps lucky wasn’t the right word. It was more lucky because she had fast enough reflexes to latch herself on to the front of the seat so she didn’t fall into the weird crescent thing. She then adjusted herself so she could stay up with just one arm, putting her feet on the legs of the seat. Hard to balance in that manner, but not too difficult for her.
Further lucky was that the window nearest her had been partially broken. She was able to set it loose by elbowing the side that seemed to be stuck. Just a bit more fidgeting with it and it managed to bring it down enough for her to be able to use it as an exit. Pretty lucky that she wasn’t the most muscular girl in the world. Quite the opposite, really.
Stella managed to hoist herself up out of the bus through that window with only some difficulty. Be damned if she was going to die here without seeing any action. Good thing it hadn’t hit her seat. Or the engine, for that matter. No way would she be able to survive the bus blowing up.
Now, just because she was fine didn’t mean everyone else was. In fact... ah, was Cecil alright? He was the only person she knew here. Not only her partner but her friend as well. Had to make sure he was okay. She’d look around for him, and offer her assistance should he require it. If their timing was good, he could transform into his weapon form and she could catch him pretty easily. If he needed her help, of course.

Levi was thankful the only one who responded to his words was Irene. The last thing he needed was one of the peasants thinking he was actually addressing them, least of all that he cared for their response. Irene seemed to follow the same thought that he did, that he shouldn’t get his hopes up that something could match him. It was unfortunate but probably true, at least she delivered it along with a proper title for him. Hopefully the rest of the rabble would remain silent for the remainder of the ride so he didn’t have to hear their voices.
Of course things couldn’t be that easy. Some pathetic trash just had to take the offer to ask questions and waste his time by existing. If it was quick Levi could potentially excuse it but he just went on and on. Name, weapon form, rank. What meaningless information to give! So he was a name nobody knew about, a weapon that nobody cared about, and a rank that was given out like scraps to any filthy beggar that wandered to the school. His words stopped reaching Levi as soon as worst case scenario reached his ears. He might catch some pathetic just listening to the cowardice.
Exerting a physical effort he kept himself from responding and instead sat back and pressed his shades properly against his face. If the fodder wanted to piss themselves in fear they could do it out of his way. It was almost a good thing that Misaki was placed in charge, she got to deal with the trash instead of him. Her response to the coward also provided some useful information for him, that her weapon was a demon spear. Interesting, a similar weapon type to Irene but obviously inferior to his weapon. This new information gave him some hope for the mission to at least see which of them could dispose of the most enemies.
Looking out the window in the hope that it would distract him from the peasant talk Levi watched them approach the village. A nice clearing for him to dominate without obstruction, aside from the filthy dirt that threatened to touch his greatness. He couldn’t make out the structures accurately from where the bus was but they looked poor enough to not concern him. The pillar was the outlier that actually seemed interesting, so that was the concentrated madness that brought them there in the first place?
Something had the audacity to interrupt his thoughts by screaming as they entered the village. Having already begun to piss him off the thing added to its transgressions by plastering itself over the front of the bus. Sitting near the back some light still managed to filter in around him but not the overwhelming spotlight he deserved. The final straw was when it attacked the bus by stabbing something through the roof. Standing up Levi intended to soul purge the thing before it started to shake the bus and he lost his footing, falling back to his seat shortly after standing.
Glaring at the protrusion the only thing Levi felt was rage toward it. There was no fixation or buzzing in his head, just the desire to have the thing dead. This was outrageous! He had no problem with something attacking him but not while he was inside the bus! Facing him in combat was one thing but attacking while he was unable to fight properly was the epitome of cowardice! So focused on his anger he hardly noticed the colors the thing gave off or the words spoken by the driver.
The motion of the bus caught his attention just enough for him to not be caught completely off guard by the turn. He had just enough time to turn in his seat before the bus turned and he fell. The fall was fast and heavy as Levi was brought to the driver’s side. Luckily he had kept away from as many people as he could as his boots crashed into the window and shattered the glass under his presence. After landing he took a moment to clear his thoughts enough for him to get in a better position to fight.
He hadn’t taken any damage from the fall aside from the glass that was undoubtedly imbedded in his boots. Absorbing the landing shock was unusual and his legs were aware of that but it wasn’t enough to hamper him. The next step was to get out of the bus and into the open to kill the thing. Misaki passed him as he thought and opened the rear exit which meant he had no choice but to follow. Walking along the grounded windows in what space he had Levi wasted no time exiting the bus and moving to see what had dared to attack him.
Aware enough of his surroundings he was ready to grab Irene if she transformed for him but otherwise ignored the others. If someone couldn’t handle getting out of the bus they were no better than a NOT student and as such not worth his time. In the period of calm they had while the bus pinned whatever the thing was down he took the chance to take the Incom out of his pocket and place it in his ear. Luckily for the others it didn’t interfere with his shades or he would have discarded it. Now he just had to see if the thing could stand up to him in a proper fight!

Cecil relaxed his grip on the seat in front of him as he listened to Misaki's response. Truly, he thought he was asking on behalf of everyone on the bus. It was tactics 101 to have an escape plan for any operation. He could, however, feel the attention of the others on the bus, even if briefly, acknowledging him. If he had to take a guess, he was sure at least some on the bus thought he was a coward. In particular, the boy couldn't help but have made note earlier of the arrogant bearing of a certain green haired punk.
It irked Cecil to acknowledge that he could make a less than spectacular first impression to anyone.
But it would have irked him more to have anyone, not least of all him, put in an untenable situation from another's reckless abandon. There would be no glory to have in a Pyrrhic victory, after all.
Cecil sat back down in his seat, satisfied with the answer he had gotten. He slipped his Incom out of his pocket and fit it into his left ear. The boy could hardly spare a glance towards his partner afterwards, as a ghastly cry pierced his thoughts. His hands' instinctively brought themselves up to cover his ears; he couldn't well afford hearing loss.
Darkness enveloped the front of the bus, and whilst his eyes struggled to adjust to the change, his mind was kicked into thinking of what could happen next and what possible exits were available. Thus, he wasn't terribly surprised about the follow up pierce through the roof, though he was thankful it apparently didn't catch anyone on the way down. He had to simply assume such by the lack of any death cries, though, as he wasn't looking toward the aisle at the moment, instead looking towards his partner and the window to her side. Thankfully so, as the hypnotic nature of the object would have possibly captivated the boy. He was ever the sucker for novel spectacles, and alien colors would certainly fascinate him despite the eminent danger.
Stella seemed enraptured by the sight, though, and that was all the info he needed regarding it. Would definitely not be wise to follow suit. It wouldn't do have his meister distracted at this time, though, so he considered how he might best snap her out of it. Cecil didn't have the luxury to literally snap, though. He brought his legs up and planted his feet firmly on the back of the seat in front, and pressed his back deep into the back of his own seat, bracing himself between the two seats in anticipation of the events to follow.
The driver called out, and though expected, it was much to Cecil's chagrin that the bus toppled onto its side. With himself on the side opposite. At least Stella came back to her senses in time to react. It would have been disastrous for her to fall off on top of him, after all. Her agility and flexibility served them both well in this instance.
They had two options. One: fall down to the other side, and in the process likely at least one of them would have sprained or broken something. And that was if they were lucky enough to not fall onto whatever it was that had impaled the bus. Neither of them really had the bulk to absorb such an impact with grace. Two: Climb upward and exit out their window.
Cecil wasn't in the position to make the decision, however, and it was clear which one Stella had chosen. Her mobility was rather impressive, and it didn't take her long to exit out the window she managed to open. The boy, unfortunately, was not as suited to the task. Sure, he was in no danger of falling with how he balanced himself, but, unaided, he couldn't exactly maneuver well. And the violent shakes of whatever-it-was didn't bode well. He was shifting himself upward, but each inch came more difficult than the last.
To his relief, Stella wasn't going to simply let him struggle out on his own. With her presence and outreached hand, he was willing to risk more drastic maneuvers. He reached his right hand towards her's, coming short of an inch or two. With a heave, he launched himself up as best he could, sacrificing his footing. It was no longer needed, as, upon contact with Stella's palm, Cecil transformed.
As he was brought up, he took note of the presence of the other meister on top of the bus. Unlike that fellow, Cecil had absolutely no desire for Stella and him to remain on the tumultuous surface. He needed the relative stability of the dirt, and hopefully his thoughts were clear enough to Stella for her to take the opportunity to jump off as soon as possible. In this case he had to trust everyone else had the wits about themselves to get out without their help.

Irene really hadn’t expected anyone to ask a question or even open their mouth after Levi had spoken. Everyone else tended to be quiet and just go along with things. That held its own foolishness in some instances, but she could assume that it was everyone’s confidence in their own abilities and the fact that they all should be somewhat qualified.
Oh how she wished the silence would have remained so that she could keep thinking that. Sadly, someone had shifted in their seat and a quick ’Pardon’ caught Irene’s ears. Inwardly she groaned. Not even bothering to turn around, she didn’t even want to think about what was going to be said next. Yet she listened, just to know. After he had finished speaking, Irene wish she would have gone with the gut feeling to ignore him. He wanted to know the last ditch back-up plan? He should get a dung cart back to the airport. She didn’t want him fighting alongside her. Anyone who’s thoughts went to how to escape was not worth trusting on the battlefield.
Misaki’s response to the question was… level-headed. Irene was torn on whether she thought that was appropriate and/or helpful. On one hand, it kept a bit of respect for the scum who asked the question. On the other, did he deserve that respect? A coward. The only vocalized question being that of escape and fleeing. It’s possible that was why Misaki was leading, because she was more level-headed, but Irene would have thrown his ass right out of the bus.
Her slightly angered thoughts didn’t distract her from what was around. Outside the bus, things were becoming clearer. It was odd that the light came back and so did signs of animals. Weren’t they approaching the threat? What on earth did that forest hold that kept it so silent? The bus continued on without fail, bringing them upon the small village that was their destination. Irene’s right hand grasped the back of the seat in front of her, she sat up a little straighter to the point where she was lifting her body up slightly to get a better look of what lay ahead. Wooden buildings, but also a destroyed one. Right in the center. A large pillar had taken its place, forcing its way through.
The cry echoed through her ears as she imagined it did for everyone in the bus. That could only foreshadow something bad. So here it would begin. And about time! Darkness covered the front of the bus, Irene’s other hand shot up to secure herself a little bit more on the seat in front of her. They should probably get out of this clunky moving target. Moments later, something crashed through the top of the bus. No one was hurt, Misaki directed them to put their incoms on if they weren’t already. A mental check reminded Irene she had placed it in her ear a while earlier. The driver was yelling directions in broken english. Then he put the pedal to the metal, turned, and flipped the bus.
People scrambled to their own exits. Back of the bus, top of the bus, windows… The only one that really mattered paying attention to was her partner. She had known better than to thwart his movements just a bit earlier. Him standing, the irritability and focus on what had pierced the bus. She assumed he’d attempt to strike it. Not something she would have recommended, but it seemed the bus was on her side as it threw him off balance. Her focus having been about the bus, but mostly on him, she avoided the side effects of being locked into the colors of the crystal.
Her grip on the back of the seat before her kept her from being thrown around too much by the flipping of the bus. Her feet caught a seat across the aisle, her hands having steadied much of the fall. Taking one last look about the bus as people exited, she wondered how the driver had taken the fall… The shuddering of the bus from the thing that had attacked it pressed her to get out. To get to her partner. She only hesitated a moment longer before following that logical need to get out of this containment. Glancing to her partner that had just stepped out of the overturned metal basket, her human body shifted to light. Not wasting any more time or her own energy, she took the most straight forward path. Quick and efficient, her transforming self shot straight out of the bus, light dissipating to corseque as she came to Levi’s side.
It had already begun. He would not hesitate as much as she had.

The leader’s partner spoke afterwards. Well… It was who Niina assumed was the girl’s partner. It was normal that everyone sat by their partners right? It never really occurred to her that maybe people just sat by random other friends. Either way, the boy’s words were helpful, even if he didn’t really reveal his face to the whole bus. They both seemed to like good people to have in charge, which kept Niina’s grin intact. It also helped that when she looked to her own partner, she found no disappointment in what was ahead. It looked as if he was ready to go and make a difference, which gladdened her heart.
Misaki had asked for questions, but what came after her partner was definitely not a question. Chuckling lightly, Niina relaxed back into her seat. It was a great reminder that everyone had different personalities. This one that spoke was… excited? People were funny that way. He didn’t sound nervous at all, in fact he sounded like he might be disappointed if it wasn’t difficult enough!
Another girl’s quiet voice met her ears, speaking to the one next to her, but not addressing the whole bus like the leaders or the green haired boy. Then… the one the girl had spoken to stood. A question? But why stand? Would she have stood if she asked a question? Niina wasn’t really sure. But she was interested in what he might say. He bowed his head and introduced himself, a respectful gesture that did not set her up for what was to follow.
Outmatched. Casualties. Get out alive.
A bit of color drained from her face, her smile drooping a bit and she shifted awkwardly further down in her seat. Picking at her gloved hands once again, the humming she had been so happy about was successfully and completely silenced. Did… Should… they really be thinking about that? Maybe they should, but she couldn’t say she particularly wanted to. She found herself no longer looking at the boy, her eyes focused blankly on the seat in front of her.
Misaki answered the boy. It was a good answer as far as Niina knew, but not enough to shake her uneasiness now that it had further penetrated her mind. At least she knew the girl’s name… Maybe it had been said before at the meeting… she couldn’t remember. Misaki Misaki Misaki. Bringing her hand up to her ear, she checked to make sure the incom was still in place. That was their lifeline if they needed it. Taking a deep breath, the blonde looked quite a bit obviously more worried than just a few minutes before. Even the light passing through the trees again did little to up her mood.
Staring at the back of the seat did little for her observation. Niina hadn’t noticed they were coming up on the village. Didn’t notice that the middle building was smashed to bits. This was a disadvantage since she didn’t have any reason to prepare for the loud cry, or the darkness, or something smashing through the top of the bus. Eyes wide and a high pitched ”Eep!” escaping her mouth when something came through the roof and jostled the bus, the girl’s attention shot towards that which had brought such a different atmosphere.
Weird colors swirling through… it was odd looking. Her attention shifted slightly when the bus driver was giving directions. Hold on? What was he going to do? She found out shortly when the metal crate of students on wheels accelerated and pulled harshly to the side. Sitting by the window on the side that happened to go side into the dirt, she was only flung a little ways. But that also gave little time to react to the ‘fall.’ Not to mention that there was another person on the other side of her.
Trying to keep her hands out of the broken glass that littered the dirt, she squirmed to get free of her current situation and stand. Misaki’s words met her ears clearly. Get out of the bus and avoid the black. But… how was the last one who gave them direction? Everyone was exiting the bus quickly and efficiently as far as she could see but… what about the driver? She thought maybe someone else might investigate how he was. Heck, the one girl who had been by the green-haired one had even hesitated to look towards the front of the bus. But then she too was gone.
Glancing to her own partner, she spoke quickly.
” I have to make sure the bus driver got out.”
And then she was taking off towards the front of the bus. Avoiding what was once the tops of the seats, she dashed along the side/upper part of the now overturned bus. Approaching the black pillar that had caused this problem, she jumped. A little bit of her flight ability assisted in clearing above the pillar so effectively, almost like she was diving over the thing. Landing easily on the other side, she got to the front of the bus with little issue.
Thankfully there was still light from the opposite side of the bus, or this could have all left her frozen still… Front of the bus covered in a sickening black darkness, she attempted to locate the driver and assist him out if need be.
“Sir, are you okay? We need to get out!”
Obviously he knew that… he had told them the same thing… But she didn’t want him injured and alone. Even not injured and alone sucked. Whatever the situation, she needed to know he got out.

Listening to the others Fritz felt like they had a good chance of getting through this without any problems! Support each other and avoid anything that was too much to handle. Everything sounded great! He felt like he could handle a decent amount of combat but wasn’t sure how Niina would deal with everything. Luckily the others on the bus seemed confident enough in themselves that even if he wasn’t part of the most useful group they would be fine as a whole. At least that was his mindset until someone else spoke.
They introduced themselves as Cecil along with saying they were a demon weapon. He had a point with what he said but Fritz didn’t want to hear any of it. Like his partner Fritz’s attention became focused on the back of the seat in front of him while his mind went over what he heard. The bus did have a good number of teams on it but they had no idea what was waiting for them when they arrived at the site so they could easily be grossly outnumbered. While some teams seemed perfectly confident he was not one of them, what if they were outmatched and he couldn’t provide any help to the other teams? His own lack of ability might end up contributing to the death of another team, a better team that was actually useful. What if his own weakness ended up being the thing that resulted in them suffering huge casualties and failing the mission?
Everything else seemed to begin to fade around him as his entire world became the back of the seat and the all-consuming dread that he felt. The leader’s voice sounded muffled but broke through to him. Still dazed he placed the Incom in his ear and tried to shake off the fear. He couldn’t worry too much or he would drag Niina down and that would be horrible for everyone. After he decided as much all the dread and panic he was experiencing vanished like nothing was ever there. Putting on a grin he faced Niina to reassure her, everything was going to be ok and work out! He held onto that belief for a few more moments until he was met with the cry that passed through the bus.
Fritz tried to bring his attention to whatever had caused the noise and was met with the darkness that engulfed the front of the bus. It wasn’t a solid darkness but the illumination it gave off was far from what he would describe as light and it only served to unnerve him more. He didn’t have much time to focus on it however as the next moment something pierced through the top of the bus and into the aisle between the seats. Niina’s reaction to it practically ensured that he look to see what it was that had affected his meister.
Colors. The constantly shifting colors were mesmerizing. Forgetting about what was going on around him all Fritz wanted to do was watch as the colors changed over and over. Eyes growing wide in fixation Fritz stared at the protrusion oblivious to anything around him. While the others heard the grinding coming from the bus all Fritz heard was a low buzzing that seemed to rattle around in his head. Drowning out everything else the buzzing grew louder and began to take on the tone of a voice though any words were incomprehensible. The words of the driver failed to reach him and he would have remained how he was while it turned were it not for the sudden ”grab something, idiot” that passed through his head.
Still transfixed by the colors he managed to reach out and grab the front of the seat before the bus turned and he was sent into the side that hit the ground. He was on the same side luckily and escaped any major injuries but even the bus tipping wasn’t enough to break his connection to the colors. Getting up off the new ground he stood to look at the colors better. Catching the shifting light his eyes looked more yellow than purple and even his hair seemed darker in the odd light.
Niina’s voice was the first thing he heard from his surroundings. Blinking he grabbed his head as the mumbling near voice was replaced by a throbbing pain. Shaking his head he sharply exhaled as he took in everything that was around him. The bus was on its side and everyone seemed to be leaving in the opposite direction from where Niina was headed. It didn’t take much to assess the situation, they had to get out of the bus and deal with what had attacked it. The problem was Niina was not leaving the bus and was headed closer to the dark that covered the front. Watching the others get out of the various exits Fritz did the only thing he could and followed after Niina to the front.
Coming so close to the object that had been his entire existence for the last couple of moments Fritz avoided looking directly at it the best he could. Niina cleared it but he couldn’t think of a way to get past it with any speed that didn’t involve potential injury from broken glass. Not having time to think about it he ran at the colors and transformed for a second to make it under the block. Golden light erupted to fill the inside of the bus for an instant before vanishing again as Fritz regained his human form and followed after Niina.
Reaching his meister he heard her words to the driver. In the darkness that surrounded them he wouldn’t even know the sun was out if he didn’t have prior knowledge. He felt strange from earlier but even so just standing in the darkness made him feel uncomfortable. Spending any more time in the darkness than necessary seemed like a bad idea. Extending a hand to the driver there was a building sense of urgency inside him.
”She’s right. This is maybe the least safe place to be right now, we can’t stay here a second longer than we need to.”
Trying to remain as calm as he could for the driver a hint of panic escaped with his voice. He couldn’t pinpoint exactly how he was feeling but fear was a prominent emotion. It caused some anxiety in Fritz that didn’t disappear immediately.

Despite the bus flipping the students kept some sense of order and scrambled to escape the bus. Everyone having the same general mindset kept the chaos to a minimum and allowed the teams to make it off the bus. Their efforts were assisted by whatever monster that was pinned by the bus not putting up much of a struggle. In fact, the only thing it caused was some minor shaking as the intensity of each movement diminished. Having a bus on top of it was an inconvenience and the students inside were nothing to put thought into as they would all end as food the same.
Inside the bus the remaining team ventured into the darkness. The driver noted the movement while still out of sorts from the bus flipping. When Niina reached him he listened to her words and worked on clearing his head. He understood the basics of her words and knew the urgency of the situation. Hearing more footsteps his eyes went toward them before being met with the flash of golden light. It was a welcome break from the darkness but he had no time to dwell on it. It was top priority that the team get off the bus, every student would need to be out there to handle the situation. Grabbing Fritz’s hand, he got up with a nod and silently urged the team to hurry.
The light from Fritz transforming caught the attention of the monster under the bus however and it began to free itself more hurriedly. Minor shaking grew into violent tremors as it pushed against the bus with all it had. Metal creaked and non-broken windows shook in their frames. From the beast itself came a horrid cry that conveyed aggravation at being unable to acquire the new target it had found. At the rate of the convulsions it would not take long before it tore itself out from the bus and into the students.
Unfortunately, the monster trying to free itself was not the only sound that started. From the forest footsteps could be heard approaching the clearing, drawn by the feeling of the light. More sounds could be heard coming from the houses, scratching and stomping mostly, as what remained of the humans eagerly wished to join in the calling. Soon everything affected by the madness would fall upon the teams in an attempt to satiate the new hunger for souls.
