Almasi; Kalila;Weapon
Name: Kalila Malika Almasi
Nickname: Kate
Age: 16
Gender: Female
Race: Weapon
Position: Student
Class: One Star
Partner:
A Strong Body
Picture:
Appearance: Kate is rather tall in comparison to other girls in her home city, though she is currently the shortest member of her family group. Other than that little detail, she looks almost identical to every other female living in her large home, with long (and sometimes unruly) dark hair and fierce, chocolate-colored eyes.
Before coming to the United States, she weighed much less. Her stomach was much more toned, as were her arms. But she likes the bit of weight she has put on since changing her diet so drastically; she thinks it gives her a more healthy look, though her mother often discourages the junk food binges she frequently goes on and often encourages her to pick up dancing again. She still has strong, dancer’s legs, though.
She has one piercing in each ear, though she never wears earrings anymore so they have surely closed up. She has also recently pierced her nose, and usually keeps a tiny, shiny stud in it. (Except when Skyping her mother.)
In the sense of clothing, she mostly wears long sleeved, tunic style shirts and baggier pants. Her host family has recently given her interest in dresses, and have bought her a quite a few. She’s also starting to experiment with wearing shorts more often, though she rarely wears them outside of the house. She is also developing a love for skinny jeans—they accent the dancer legs. She hates having anything in her hair, or on her head for that matter—she says it makes her feel strange.
Height: 5’5
Weight: 134lbs
Fighting Style: While she spent her entire life thus far learning the art of el ard from her family, she rarely uses the martial dancing in her fighting. All grace she has during practice sessions with her mother and cousins is long forgotten whenever she gets into a real fight. She throws wild, hard punches whenever she finds herself in a tight spot (which was fairly often, back home) and has been known to bite and draw blood from said bites.
She actually thinks the sword dance is silly, and sees it only as a chore that the older women in her family put her through.
Personality: Kate was a highly anticipated, highly desired child. That being said, she was coddled and spoiled until she turned ten years old. This resulted in a very proud preteen, who didn’t bow her head to anyone. (Which got her into trouble frequently, not only with her mother but with the people in the city of Cairo.) It also led to a nasty temper, and the final result was a very impatient and very headstrong child. She developed leadership skills naturally from watching her mother, who happens to be the current head of the family, but on the flip side she also developed a hatred of being told what to do.
She’s a very confident individual who is very comfortable in her own skin. She adores attention, and gets irritated when she doesn’t have enough of it. But she’s also very aware of other people, and often gives the same amount of attention that she expects for herself. She’s good at watching out for others, and she’s very protective of anyone she has taken under her wing. She also really loves children, and acts the part of older sister with her younger cousins. (A very strict older sister, but sister nonetheless.) Even though she doesn’t quite like dancing, she loves teaching it to the other kids. She often scares them, though, with her impatience.
A whole year of her life was strictly devoted to grasping the English language, and she’s very skilled with it. But even then, she doesn’t quite understand sarcasm of any kind, or any peculiar sounding idioms. So particularly sarcastic people frustrate her, and she tends to verbally lash out at them. She doesn’t like not understanding a situation, or what is going on. She likes to keep control of the situation, and is uncomfortable with anything that is beyond her knowledge.
She loves to eat, especially American food, and has very vicious streaks of laziness here and there. And in those fits of laziness, it’s almost impossible to motivate her to do anything—if she wants to sit on the couch all day, she’s going to do exactly that.
It was recently discovered that she is terribly claustrophobic; she especially hates riding in cars and elevators, and she’s terrified of small alley ways. She’s also afraid of the dark, and can’t sleep unless some sort of light is on in the room.
Inside the Soul
Weapon form: Kate’s weapon form is that of a black iron khopesh with gold embellishments painted along the handle and the blade. The entire sword itself is twenty inches long, with a very small fractions of that of that length (seven inches) being used as a handle—just barely enough space for one to wrap their hand around it comfortably. Only the outside edge of the curve is sharpened, with the rest of the weapon being used as a bludgeon and/or hook. In all, the khopesh weighs roughly seven pounds.
Partial Form: In her partial form, Kate’s right hand from the wrist up stretches and curves into the upper hooked portion of the khopesh. It’s actually rather useless, as the majority of the actually sharp part is lacking. But it certainly looks scary, and very few realize that the curve is not sharpened so she often uses it as an intimidation technique—though she is strong enough to use it as a blunt weapon.

Hobbies: She really relishes in the new freedom given to her by moving to America, and because of that she doesn’t have any specific hobbies; she likes the idea of being able to try new things every day, and that she can do practically anything she wants. It’s really only the idea she likes, though. She often finds herself doing more subdued things, like learning how to cook or exploring the city without any opposition from the opposite gender. But she does truly appreciate the idea that if she wanted to, she could go skydiving or ride one of those fun looking motor bikes or even join a wrestling team.

She’s currently trying to think of specific things she can do for her people, but for now she’s just focusing on getting stronger and making a name for herself.
History: For countless generations, the Almasi family has been known for its practice of the sacred art of el ard. It was predominately performed by men until very recently—perhaps close to around three hundred years ago. A girl was born to the head of what used to be a nomadic tribe, a girl with the ability to transform into the key weapon in the dance. She was treated as a deity, and placed at the head of the tribe. And things just kind of grew from there; more girls were born into the family, and eventually the entire tribe consisted of females—but only those in the direct line of the Head inherited her transformation abilities, and thus leadership remained in the hands of those who were later labeled as “Weapons” by the rest of the world.
And that’s where Kate’s story starts. Her mother, the newly declared leader of the group, had been struggling to have a child and pass down the Weapon gene for years. In fact, a group of the elder generation was even starting to make plans to change the line of leadership when Kate was finally conceived. The nine months that ensued were filled with celebration and prayers for a safe delivery and a healthy child. And they got exactly what they wished for.
Kate grew up in a large family compound outside the city of Cairo, Egypt. The inner family consists of about forty people, with another seventy in the outer circle. She spent most of her time with her young father (who was eighteen at the time of her birth) growing up, playing games with him and the other small children. When she turned ten, she started learning how to dance and went through vigorous training for it, and at twelve her weapon powers awakened. Her mother and grandmother had prepared her for the transformation process, and kept a watchful eye on her as she discovered the ability during part of her daily training—she had been in the middle of a dance, actually, when a blade started growing out of her hand. She started to go through new bouts of exercises after that, learning to control her ability.
A year later, rumors started spreading around of a “demon serpent” stalking the streets of Cairo at night. Kate had very little to do with the incidents at all, as she wasn’t allowed to wander through town as of yet. But she was effected by the people who came to aid them: a young Weapon and Meister team from Shibusen had been sent to investigate, and they quickly befriended the Almasi tribe, most especially Kate. The Meister, a handsome young man named Matthew, was actually the one to give her the nickname “Kate”. He said it suited her, and she absolutely fell in love with the name and now has a tendency of using it in her introductions. He and his partner, Zoe, were eventually able to find the monster (with some help from Kate’s mother) and had to be on their way. But they often came back to visit after that, and every time they came Matt would teach her a little bit of English.
Since Kate’s parents learned very early on that it was best to advise against things, rather than forbid them, her father made it clear that it would be best if she didn’t explore the city nearby on her own. And if she absolutely just couldn’t resist going, he would like to accompany her. That very idea was simply ridiculous to her; she was stronger than he was, or she was under that impression anyway, and she was the next family head so surely she could handle a trip into town on her own.
She doesn’t remember much of the trip itself. She remembers being lured into an alley, though she can’t remember what possessed her to do such a thing—perhaps childish naivety? She remembers three big men, and how much their hands hurt when they grabbed her. She also remembers how dark it was, despite the sun hanging high in the sky, and she remembers that she didn’t have enough space to move around. And then there was blood, though she wasn’t sure where it came from. She just lashed out, maybe with her partial form, and then the men had made a run for it.
Later, the fat man who runs the fruit store would tell her it was because she didn’t dress appropriately. She destroyed one of his tables, and was then not allowed to go back into Cairo.
During one of their visits, Matt and Zoe suggested that Kate start attending classes at Shibusen. They told her she could become much stronger that way, which had her hooked immediately. It took quite some time for her mother to agree to it, though. (She had a very rational fear that Kate wouldn’t want to come back once she had been to America.) She finally relented to the idea, only after giving the condition that Kate would live with Matt and Zoe.
At the age of fifteen years old, Kate made her first trip out of her home country and moved in with her friends in America. The plane trip had gone pleasantly; Kate had slept most of the time, which was a relief to her new guardians. But the taxi ride to their home was not quite as easy. Kate freaked out, hyperventilating and kicking the seats (as well as the passengers). Finally, they just had to stop the car and walk the rest of the way home, and Matt suggested they not take her driving anymore.
She studied English and culture with the couple for a year before attending school. She was still able to travel and see other cities—though they moved by train, having established it as the best mode of transportation besides actually flying. And shortly after she turned sixteen, she started going to class at Shibusen.

But she liked the beta fish more. While they had the same amount of complacency , at the very least they fought each other for ownership of the bowl. That she enjoyed immensely, and began to study the exotically colored fish to try and decide which ones would be the strongest.
“Kate, we came here for a dog.”
Oh, right. It was adoption day. Matt and Zoe had been wanting a dog for a while now, and made the decision to get one this morning. Kate didn’t really like that; usually, the pair talked things through with each other and with her before making such a huge commitment. Matt must have heard that the shelter would have animals at the pet store, and let his excitement get the best of him. But Zoe was no better, because she agreed immediately.
Kate did not want a dog. Dogs smelled bad. She wanted a fish.
Or a snake, but Zoe was deathly afraid of them.
Speaking of Zoe, the woman grabbed Kate’s hand and led her over to the excitable canines, each staring at her with big and loving eyes. She scowled at them, mentally assuring them that she did not care for a single one of them.
“Which one do you like?” Zoe chirped, subtly steering her toward the older looking dogs. “We were thinking of a bigger dog…what do you prefer?”
No dog at all,[/color] is what Kate was thinking, but she didn’t get the chance to say it. Matt had grabbed her attention, patting the big cage of what looked like an old golden retriever. He grinned at her, gesturing for her to come closer to him with his head. She did as he asked, though looking skeptical of the blonde man’s expression.
Once she made it to his side, he crouched down and encouraged her to do the same. “This handsome guy was talking to me,” he started, sending a glance in the direction of the big dog. “And he said he wanted to meet you.”
Kate looked surprised, her eyes widening. “Dogs cannot talk,” she insisted, looking at her friend like he had grown another head.
He wasn’t bother, though, and continued on. “Sure they can. You just have to know how to listen.” He laughed a little, before cooing some dumb sounding words to the dog. Kate just puckered her lips, unsure of whether she should believe him or not.
Regardless, she found herself looking following his suit, though without the dumb sounds. “Why did you want to meet me, dog?” she demanded, and the retriever looked pleased that she was finally paying attention to him. His tail began to wag, and his brown eyes lit up. He stuck his nose in between the bars containing him and licked her fingers.
Zoe and Matt both held their breath, unsure of how the younger girl would react to that.
Kate was still for a very long time, glaring darkly at the dog who could only stare right back at her with kind eyes.
Finally, she broke, and turned toward Matt. “He has a good soul. I approve.” Both of her companions looked relieved by her words, and Zoe happily skipped off to alert someone of the purchase they were about to make. Matt merely laughed, patting Kate’s head.
“You’re right, he’s a very good soul. He’ll take good care of you, you know.”
“I do not need the protection of a dog.”
“Just hush and let him love you.” Zoe returned quickly, with a huge ear-splitting smile on her face. The volunteer with her opened the cage and let the dog free, and he walked immediately up to Kate and began licking her face.
“His name’s Shadow,” Zoe happily announced, reading off the paper that was given to her.
“That is the dumbest name I have ever heard.”
As if to scold her, Shadow nudged her chin with his nose. She gave him a sharp look, though he did not cease his actions. Finally, she gave in with a heavy sigh and began to rub his head. “Okay, maybe not the dumbest.”
And just like that, he stopped his actions and decided to rest his head on her lap, and Matt took a picture and made a cheesy comment about the start of a beautiful friendship.
Kate couldn’t say she agreed, but she was much more pleased when the tall male brought a prettily colored beta fish from behind his back and bestowed it upon her.
