Tsk. Today was shaping up to be quite horrible.
That seemed to be a theme as of late, didn’t it? Perhaps Elias should have seen this coming. Attending Shibusen was such a dramatic change to how Elias had been living his life before. Confined within a small room. Now he had an entire school to explore! Surely this had to be a good change.
Alas, not quite. Elias instead had met a bazillion people who wanted nothing to do with him. Pretty much everyone he had met, save for his partner. But, she wasn’t exact a peach. Not that Elias was going to just stop trying because of the oh-so-discouraging results, of course! But for now, he’d stay away from the dojo.
Ah, yes. The dojo. Note to self: do not introduce self to girls holding swords. Elias was just trying to be friendly, but the girl had not taken too kindly to him. Elias couldn’t imagine why she had taken such great offense to a simple hello, but she had nonetheless. Even going so far to try to swing the sharp sword at him to make him back off! Though it was obvious she wasn’t really trying. Elias had left the place unscathed.
Or so he thought.
Elias was an observant young lad. He needed to be. One of his senses didn’t work. And unlike going blind where one would gain fantastic hearing and vise versa, none of Elias’ other senses helped him make up for the lack of his touch. He just had to hope nothing was amiss and be on his way. That’s what he was doing now. Elias had no idea there was a pretty nasty cut towards the top of his left arm.
With all that cloth Elias wore, the blood that came from it wouldn’t drip to the ground. At least not yet. Red on red was hard for one to catch out of the corner of their eye, too. Elias looked forward to make sure he didn’t bump into anything. That’d look odd, for him to not notice bumping into something at all.
What Elias did notice was the occasional odd look from a passer-by. Not many. The halls were near empty right now, it seemed. Or at least this one was. Elias didn’t particularly care, though. He got odd looks all the time! Surely people just were so entranced by his presence that they couldn’t help but stare.
It'd probably be wise for Elias to head to the dispensary. Shame he was blind to such a severe injury.

Today was going well enough so far. Well enough given the week’s circumstances. It still felt a bit odd for Lior, walking the halls knowing she wouldn’t see two familiar faces. Bang Bang was far away now and Akuma even further. She almost felt worse for not feeling more upset about it. She missed the living rainbow more than she did her…whatever it was Akuma had been. It didn’t feel right to say that he’d been her boyfriend since they’d only been on one date. The whole departure was sad, but something just felt awkward about it. But Lior had more important things to worry about. Like how close she and Rhett were to becoming One stars. Two more NOT missions and they would be moving up to face the real monsters rather than imaginary ghosts and rambunctious raccoons. The impending difficulty had her nervous. She could technically fight. Technically. Lior had studied krav maga for years, but…well; she’d never really used it outside of lessons. Maybe I should see about finding someone to spar with. Hopefully if she managed to find someone they wouldn’t be too far above her. Lior was confident enough in her abilities, but she also knew her lack of real experience would put her at a disadvantage. Even so, better to get in some practice against another student at least before facing a Kishin Egg. The better her training, the less chance there was of her or Rhett getting ki- “Oh, sorry!” Her train of thought broke as she accidentally bumped shoulders with a young blond man. She recognized him, someone else from the NOT class, though she couldn’t recall his name. Sporting a bit of a blush from not looking where she was going, Lior made to keep moving for a few steps. Except what was on her arm? It didn’t feel annoying, just out of place. Confused, Lior paused and lifted her arm, tilting her head to get a look at the upper part of it. Red was what she saw. Not out of place but also out of place as it wasn’t associated with her complexion for once, and she also wasn’t hurt. Apparently perplexed, it took her a moment and then the worry crashed into her senses with an intensity only an older sister could manage. Reeling around on her heel in a state of panic, she locked onto the sight of the boy who was now further down the hall before beginning to run his way. “Wait a moment, please!” she called, “You with the blond hair, stop!”Lior caught up quickly, skidding to a halt at the young man’s side wearing an expression wrought with concern as she pointed to his upper arm. “You’re bleeding!”

Though Elias had been concentrating on where he walked, he managed to not notice a girl. What Elias had noticed was said girl’s voice. A quick apology. Elias wasn’t quite sure what the apology was for, but it was directed at him. With the way the girl moved after her apology, she had probably just run into him. ”Oh, it’s quite alright.” Elias replied with his usual cheery disposition. He quickly added on some words just incase whatever happened had been his fault and he’d sound like a jerk if he was completely pushed the blame onto the girl. ”My fault anyway.”
The girl looked kind of familiar, actually. Not that Elias had much time to look. The girl had walked away, after all. The most he got to see of her was her pale skin and white hair, greatly contrasted by the pink dress. Now where had Elias seen that before? One of his classes, no doubt. But there were so many faces in those it was hard to keep track.
Elias turned to continue to where he had been going. Shame that girl had run off. She had seemed nice. Well, she was probably in a hurry to bump into Elias like that. Judging by the way she had reacted, perhaps she was shy too. Elias wasn’t in a particular skirt chasing mood anyway. Because, you know. Last time had gone so well.
But Elias wouldn’t have to worry about regretting not exchanging more than a few words with the odd white-haired girl. For he heard her voice again. Elias was unsure if she was referring to him when she called out at something to wait a moment. But, she then went on to refer to them as having blonde hair. Elias did have blonde hair, so no doubt she was referring to him. Stopping, Elias turned around.
The girl was... running at him? Elias might have been scared, as if he had done something wrong, if her expression wasn’t so... peculiar. Not angry. Concerned? What on earth did she have to be concerned about? Plus she was running instead of stomping at him. In heels no less. ...huh.
The next exchange was even more peculiar. The girl had halted at his side. She pointed at the boy’s arm, and yelled about how he was bleeding. Elias blinked, completely unsure about what the girl was talking about.
But then the pieces started to fall into place. Elias had thought he left the dojo unharmed, but perhaps the girl had nicked him. Elias not dare shift his eyes to observe the arm more carefully, though. Truth be told he had always been a bit squeamish when it came to blood. Mostly because he had been told so many times about how bad it was. After a bit more silence, Elias spoke up. ”Uhm, give me a moment, please...”
With that, Elias turned away from the girl, then shifted his eyes to his arm, turning it forward slightly. Yep. That was a pretty nasty cut. Elias quickly brought a hand to cover it. Didn’t want blood to go everywhere. Without turning to the girl, he spoke. ”Thank you for bringing that to my attention, Miss.”
Elias spoke more to be polite than anything. He should probably head to the dispensary.

Now that Lior was closer, she could see that the cut wasn’t terrible. Enough to cause concern, certainly, but nothing life threatening. That didn’t stop her from worrying about the young man, though. It was instinct by now. What’s more it certainly showed improvement on her part. When she first arrived at Shibusen she still would have pointed out the injury, but never so bluntly. She may have even assumed he was already headed to the infirmary and kept on going. Speaking of that, the stain on her arm was probably something she should be sure to wash off in the restroom but that could come later.
“Oh, of course.” The request struck Lior as odd. Concern merging with a touch of confusion, she stepped back to give the young man some space as he turned away from her. Had she been too abrupt? Or maybe he was embarrassed? No, that didn’t seem it at all, he didn’t appear as such. But of course he could also be hiding it well. Lior stood patiently by, waiting with her hands holding her parasol before her and decidedly glad there was no rush in the halls. For the moment it was rather empty and devoid of students and teachers. That meant they weren’t obstructing anyone.
The young man looked himself over, laid a hand over the cut but… He does not appear to be in pain. Lior found it strange. Sure it wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t good either by any means. Whatever had cut him had done a fair job of it. His thanks seemed even more odd. Her brows slanted upwards and her lips formed a small frown. This young man certainly was worrisome. “Did you really not know?” she asked. Lior was soft-spoken now as she usually was what with having caught up to him and gained his attention. But she still sounded greatly concerned. She also realized rather quickly she was being rather nosy for speaking with a complete stranger, and that little bit of embarrassment showed on her face, particularly with a slight blush that was made far more noticeable given her complexion. “Not that it is any of my business! My apologies…”
The worry was still there in spite of her worry of being overbearing with a stranger. It was the older sister in her, or that was what she decided to blame it on. She managed to shift muted red eyes up enough to make brief eye contact. “But please make sure to visit the infirmary,” she said rather quietly, “I am not a nurse, but that does not seem something you should leave unattended.”

Fortunately, the girl had given Elias his space, meaning he was actually able to check the injury. That was good, as if she had crowded her... Well, that was a hypothetical so no point thinking of that. The girl seemed to be nice. It was fortunate Elias had learned about the injury this way instead of his partner pointing it out to him or something.
But, at the same time, she had probably noticed by now.
Elias was not an actor. In certain situations, he had no idea how to hide his disability. Well, why hide it at all, then? That was an easy question for Elias to answer, even if his motives were confusing to other people. The reason - or rather one of them - was his sister. She had abused the fact Elias could not feel pain. The lack of nerves to be able to feel pain had not exempt him from feeling psychological pain. Plus, Elias did not like being pitied. Or patronized. Really, it was just best people didn’t know at all.
It turned out that Elias’ worry was well placed. For the girl had asked him, in a quiet voice, if he really didn’t know about the cut. Yes, that must have been odd. Elias’ actions clearly made it seem like that, didn’t they? Most people would probably have already noticed the injury and dismissed the girl’s concern. But, gah, he really hadn’t known. The girl was at least well mannered enough to retract her question a few moments later. Not that that meant Elias wasn’t still expected to answer. In fact, it would now just look even more odd if he didn’t answer.
There was another long pause before Elias turned around again. He was trying to figure out what to say. Eventually, Elias made up his mind and turned around again. ”No, it’s quite alright.” He replied in his usual charming manner. His words were accompanied by a warm smile. ”I simply have a high tolerance to pain, is all. And did not expect someone to show such... concern. Why, I have yet to even learn your name!”
It was now Elias realized he had not answered Lior’s question. Bah. Oh well. Hopefully the girl wouldn’t try to pry further.
The next thing Lior said was asking him to visit the infirmary. ”Yes, I was just heading there, actually.” Elias replied, beginning to turn to walk in that direction. Perhaps he’d see this girl again. She seemed nice.
It seemed as though Elias was looking more and more feverish with each passing second. This exchange was stressing him out a bit.

Oh thank goodness, it didn’t appear as though she had offended him. Lior felt relief in the way her shoulders relaxed just a bit. Her expression softened, though the concern remained. Now that it was there it would be difficult for her to shake it. In all likelihood Lior would still be fretting over the young man by day’ end wondering if he ended up alright, whether she saw him hobble off to the nurse’s office or not. Lior knew full well nurse Nygus was more than capable, but being worrisome was her default.
And Lior was given more reason to be. She was certain a high pain tolerance could help greatly in battle given the ability to keep going. But then there was the concern of just now, that being that he became injured and ended up ignoring it. On the one hand he could keep on going in a fight, but on the other he could bleed out and not even realize. But Lior chose not to comment, especially since he already seemed thrown off by her concern for hi-
She hadn’t even introduced herself! The sudden reminder had her blushing bright pink. How could she have been so rude? “M-m-my apologies!” she stuttered out in a rather shrill tone, “M-my name is Lior! Lior Menke!” At least she still spoke softly. Gracious, but she needed to get a better handle on her manners, and on her anxiety levels in terms of social interaction. That could have gone better, much better, but it was too late now. How embarrassing. She really needed to be better about that, introductions at least. She’d nearly forgotten them twice now.
The young man turned to begin his journey to the infirmary but…Lior didn’t feel right just letting him go. He looked unwell, not drastically so but he did look as though he felt a bit woozy. But he can’t possibly be bleeding that badly… Perhaps he was coming down with something as well, the poor thing. Either way, Lior took one and then two steps forward, heels clacking audibly in the mostly empty hallway. She gave him space and hung back a distance, but she also was leaning a bit. “Um…” she began a little hesitantly, “Forgive me if I’m being troublesome, but would you like me to accompany you?” Remaining where she stood, the color remained in her cheeks from lingering embarrassment. “I don’t mean to push but you look…rather unwell.”

Lior seemed to relax a bit after Elias had spoken. So his words had had the intended effect, then? Very good. Elias always knew he had a way with words, especially when he was speaking them to a particularly pretty young lady.
Or not, actually. For suddenly the girl’s pale skin turned to a bright pink colour! She was obviously embarrassed, the way she blurted out her name like that. The stuttering too. Oh gods, Elias had messed up big time. ”Ah! It’s quite alright!” He replied with a similar shrillness. After inhaling deeply to calm himself a bit, Elias spoke up again. ”As for my name, it’s Elias Larenz. You have a very pretty name, Miss Lior.” His words were yet again accompanied by a smile.
The girl had stepped back a bit, and Elias was sure she was about to leave. It appeared he was once again proved wrong, however, as the sounds of her heels clacking against the ground only lasted for a couple of steps. Elias had looked away for a moment, as he had intended to begin walking to the dispensary, but he instead turned to see that Lior was still there. The leaning in surprised him, actually. But that surprised expression only lasted for a moment. It was obvious she wasn’t the best at talking to people. Elias didn’t want to make her upset again.
Elias hesitated in his answer to Lior’s question. He was still comprehending it, honestly. Lior wanted to accompany him. Okay, it made sense for her to be that concerned. But it was the second comment that bothered him. Unwell? If it was the normal redness that people tended not to notice, Lior would have pointed it out much earlier, surely. Unless Elias was turning redder and redder because he was overheating...
Yup. He was overheating. Elias was sure he could hear his own heart beating now.
Lior was sure to noticed even more of a redness now. Elias had a very high fever now, after all. Touching his skin might even burn her hand or something... Gah. This was no good! Why did everything always have to go wrong for Elias, hm? ”Uh, y-yes...” Elias barely managed to quietly stutter. ”Another moment, if you’d please.”
Next, Elias turned around yet again. With shaky hands, he pulled the jar of pills out of his pocket that’d deal with that damn fever of his. Relying on these too much was bad. But... he kinda had to, hm? Thankfully he had now memorized the motions required of him to use the pills. Press down on lid, turn, open, pop pill in mouth, close lid, put away. Like clockwork. Elias could do that even with shaky hands. That’d make the fever go down some.
Now, Elias should probably try to get away as quickly as possible. Lior would be worried about that. But running away would also be bad. Ahah. This was no fun.

Seems they both had forgotten introductions. Lior was put somewhat at ease as; once again, this Elias didn’t appear offended by her forgetfulness. Really, she did need to stop doing that. Once of these days she really would confuse someone by forgetting basic manners, but people for the most part seemed to be more casual than she was used to as well. Perhaps it wasn’t so big of a deal after all, but at least now she had something to call him. Lior bowed her head slightly and managed to mirror Elias’ smile with a rather timid one of her own, blushing still from both the compliment and the suffix. “It’s a pleasure to meet you, Elias,” she said quietly, “And there’s no need for the miss, really, just Lior is fine.”
Bashfulness had been replaced by worry though. He still looked rather sick, or at least feverish. Flushed? Yes, but not from embarrassment. If anything he appeared as though he’d been out in the sun too long, like he was too warm or maybe had been exercising recently and for a bit too long. Could he have heat stroke? It was the only thing Lior could think of; after all he was dressed rather heavily, especially given the Nevada heat. But then again, he wasn’t the only she’d seen that dressed in such a way. If that were the case she’d have thought him capable of handling it, but perhaps he was new to the area. All speculation and all things that continued her concern.
He asked for another moment. Lior nodded once again. “Yes, of course.” Elias really was beginning to worry her. There was that unpleasant tightness in her chest she felt whenever Tom had gotten himself into trouble. Oh, curse her big sister instincts! Especially since this young man couldn’t possibly be much older or younger than she was. She heard the sound of a lid and soft rattling associated with pills.
Yup, she was going with him. Feverish, woozy, and now apparently on mediation of some sort. There was no way she was letting him walk to the infirmary on his own. What if he lost consciousness? Lior took a deep breath and nodded to herself more than him, particularly since he hadn’t turned back to face her yet. Lior stepped slowly as not to startle him with the sudden proximity, one of her hands raised towards his shoulder but not quite touching him. “You’re unwell. Forgive my insistence, but I’m coming with you whether you like it or not. Just in case.” She spoke with a gentle firmness she couldn’t remember using since she arrived, not commanding but certainly a tone that would let Elias know there was no convincing her otherwise. How strange.

”Oh, my apologies then, Lior.” Elias replied to Lior’s comment about him referring to her as “Miss”. That was simply a formality he had grown to like, as a lot of people took it as a compliment. Status kind of thing. He wasn’t quite sure, honestly, but the word sounded nice so might as well use it.
This Lior character struck Elias as a bit odd. She seemed to be one who was very formal and had good mannerisms, but was too bashful to actually remember to use those mannerisms. In any case, she seemed to mean well. Elias couldn’t help but hope he’d be able to talk to her under better circumstances, as unlikely as that might have been.
Unfortunately it looked as though this girl would probably not want to see him again anyways. Her refusal to leave was making it extremely difficult for Elias to keep the whole CIPA thing under wraps. Especially when he had to take a pill with her still standing there...
Elias might have been making a big deal out of nothing. Perhaps Lior would not be bothered by such a thing. However, prior experiences would suggest otherwise. Mostly his sister, who would constantly made fun of him being so helpless. And then there were others that passed off the “I can’t feel pain” thing as being awesome. Not only that, he simply hates discussing it. He did not particularly wanted to be reminded of his worthlessness please and thank you.
It turned out this odd girl was also very persistent.
How troublesome. Lior still wanted to come with him? After all that? Pah. Perhaps she was one of those girls that was too curious for their own good. The firmness in her voice was just a tad jarring to Elias. She had been so quiet before... And if she was speaking like that it probably meant her decision was final. Elias didn’t even bother to turn around again. He was a bit annoyed, which might have been reflected in his expression. Best Lior did not have to see that.
”Very well.” He spoke as calmly as he could. Then, Elias turned to walk towards the direction of the infirmary. Lior could not follow if she were to change her mind, as unlikely as that was.

Lior wasn’t opposed to the formality with which Elias had addressed her with so much as it just seemed odd in a school setting. She had yet to hear anyone else speak so formally, and she didn’t count Abigail or the maids. She would probably always be ‘Young Miss’ to them, or at least until she was properly an adult. She would hope they would update their language by then, it would feel a bit strange to still be called such at twenty-five after all. A little ill-fitted by then. But she could think on that later when she had the time.
He agreed to her terms, though Lior suspected he wasn’t all that comfortable with them. She disliked pushing so much, but she was just so worried. He looked awfully feverish earlier, what if he fainted from it on the way there? In that scenario she certainly hoped someone would be around and carry him valiantly the rest of the way, but there was never telling how these things would go.
That and she still had doubts in how helpful people would be for reasons left unsaid.
Memories of being left defenseless were shoved aside. Her only concern at the moment was to be Elias. As he had made for the direction of the infirmary, Lior had followed closely behind, though not too closely. The instinct to hover was there, but she pulled it back a bit. She didn’t know him very well and she didn’t want to crowd him. Lior gave him some space while keeping a close eye on him just in case his condition worsened. The thought struck her that she’d never actually seen anyone on campus hurt before. Somehow that seemed odd given training that most invested great time and effort into. Training you need to start focusing on.
And now her conscience was hounding her. Fantastic, exactly what she needed. Her expression grew tense for a moment at her own internal chastising of her less than stellar work ethic. But she recovered the look of watered down worry, not coming off as strong as it had earlier hoping not to pester. Still, she was curious now that the possibility had come to mind. “If you don’t mind my asking, how exactly did you hurt yourself?” There were a great many possibilities after all, most of them being other students. Hopefully if that were the case it would be from a proper match and not a case of malice that Lior was all too familiar with.

Elias doubted a little cut would be much of a problem. It was very unlikely he managed to get it infected. It had to be from that trigger happy sword wielder he met only a bit ago. The cut hadn’t been left untreated for long enough for him to pay it much mind. Sure, it was nice to know it was there, but at this point he would prefer to bandage it up himself. Probably not a good idea, but it seemed like a much better one than having someone he just met learn a ton of stuff about him. Elias liked his privacy.
For the time being, the two were quiet. Elias wasn’t really in the mood to initiate conversation, and honestly he wasn’t in a talking mood in general, so the silence was welcomed. To be fair, Elias tended to enjoy silence in general. He didn’t get as much as he’d like anymore, however. There didn’t seem to be too many people in the halls anymore either. That was good. Elias had grown awfully tired of their odd expressions being thrown every which way.
The silence didn’t last for forever, though. Eventually Lior asked how Elias had gotten hurt. To be honest, if she hadn’t asked that question sooner or later Elias would be surprised. It was only the natural thing to be thinking about when helping someone who was injured. Honestly, it was somewhat surprising they had gotten formalities out of the way before the question was asked.
The only question now was how on earth he would actually answer without lying horribly or telling this girl information that’d make her hate him forever. Elias was a poor liar. He always had been. To make matters worse, when his lies weren’t working he had a habit of spilling his guts about everything, even stuff that wasn’t all that relevant. ”Well, to make a long story short I was training.” He replied. There. That was a good lie. Not too complicated.
Hopefully Lior wouldn’t ask too much more. Elias didn’t mind her company all that much, but again, silence was always welcome in his books. Annnd provided he didn’t say anything stupid (or hadn’t yet, for that matter), he could always talk to her again later or something like that.
