Her breathing steadied, though Gardenia still trembled. She had gotten away in her panicked movement, for a moment. The adrenaline was receding, heart beat slowed. The episode was passing, now that she had gotten some distance. The fuzzy blots in her eyes sharpened, forming more definitive images. She put a hand on one of her knees, the other hand still leaning on the lockers, and felt the bruising that had occurred for the first time in full. She grimaced as she pulled herself up to a standing position, using the wall as a crutch, before hearing a familiar German voice come from behind.
Scowling at the boy, Gardenia said, "Don't be so presumptuous as to think of yourself as abandoning me." She was annoyed by what Elias had implied by saying that. Of course he was trying to just be helpful, but she hated feeling pitied. She didn't need a white knight, she just needed some distance. "Just hand me my supplies, and go on your way." She patted her skirt, trying to get the dust off that had gotten on it from the floor.
Gardenia realized she was being rather cold to Elias, but her good mood had rather dissipated from this incident. Her head was feeling a bit light as well, and she was probably going to have to miss her next class now. She couldn't simply stumble in late; she wouldn't be able to get to her seat. Best to just spend the period at the library.

Elias slowly got up once Gardenia had. She was still shaking, but there was not much he could do about that. All he could do was stand in silence. The boy straightened his back slightly, as to brace himself for the impending scolding from Gardenia. Fortunately for his sanity, the girl hadn’t said much. Mostly that he hadn’t made a good call by staying by her. Perhaps she didn’t like pity? He didn’t either, but for all he knew she was near death. Elias gulped loudly and drooped his head slightly as he held the books out in front of him, making sure there was no chance for contact based on how he held them.
As he waited for Gardenia to grab the books, Elias’ mind drew blanks. He noted the taste in his mouth. It had been like that for a while, though he had chosen to ignore it. Blood. Normally he’d instantly be repulsed by the taste, but this time he couldn’t muster the energy to do so. Despite that, his heart seemed to be doing double time, beating faster and louder. It was so loud he could hear it himself. A few of the veins on his neck that normally stood out looked to be even darker, as well. Not good. Not good at all. Elias best head to the dispensary as soon as he had the time. And by that, he meant now, for he had no upcoming classes.
Once Gardenia had taken the books, Elias stepped to the side and around her, being careful not to touch her at all. Though his original intent was to not say another word, Elias forced himself to stop as his back faced Gardenia. ”I believe I best head to the dispensary. However, if that was your plan, I’d suggest speaking up so I can leave you alone.”

Gardenia tentatively grabbed her things as Elias held them out to her. Her scowl lightened up, but she still wasn't quite smiling. She wasn't proud of herself for how she was handling this situation; Elias seemed like nice enough of a guy. She'd rather not leave things between them as it was, but she really wasn't in an amiable enough mood to do so. She silently resolved to herself to make amends with him at a later point. She brought her books to her chest, holding it with only one hand. She wanted to keep her other hand free, in case she stumbled while she walked.
Elias walked past the young lady, and Gardenia's free hand tightened as she admonished herself. She likely made a fool of herself, and having a girl scream at him in the middle of a hallway to "get away" likely would not be good for Elias's reputation. She'd rather rumors not start spreading around about him. He didn't deserve that.
Exhaling a sigh of exasperation, she listened as Elias talk from behind her. She wasn't going to the dispensary; there wouldn't be much to be done about her new bruises, at best some ice to be put on them. But both knees were bruised, she couldn't hold ice on both. Might as well just work through it, but take it easy. She placed her hand on the wall as she started to walk staggeringly to the library. "Might as well study the material we were going to go over today in class..."
