Despite the short amount of time Elias had been attending the school of Shibusen, he had been rather observant when it had come to the students who attended the same NOT classes as he. Even though he made a point to gather as much information as he could, his eye did wander at times. Though, one couldn’t blame him. Shibusen housed many a lady with some sort of exception. Might it be looks or talent, he’d probably note it. A few of the girls in Shibusen were also a bit... odd. Though perhaps not lacking in the looks or talent departments, there were things about them that made most people stay clear. A pity, truley.
One of the girls of this particular form of oddness usually sat in the back of one of Elias’ classes. She always made it a point to sit by herself, with plenty of empty desks around her. Elias usually did this too, as it would be a pain if someone were to command his attention by tapping his shoulder, but he didn’t make much of a point to do so. He was rather charming, after all. Keeping people away from him was quite the hefty punishment for such a small crime.
The girl in question was that of the pretty sort. She usually wore clothes that looked to be of a somewhat regal status, indicating a good taste in fashion. Her blonde hair was also usually styled to match any given outfit. Such good taste intrigued Elias, but he kept his distance. She seemed to, after all. Around just about everyone too. He had heard a few students talking about her, at one point. The girl was apparently a meister, and one with a powerful ability at that. What was it called... Soul Purge, right? Such was not common for people in the NOT class. Heck, it was even a rarity for a weapon like Elias to have a partial form, as silly as it may be.
Unfortunately, the girl’s name was something Elias had never gotten. Normally he would remember a name having heard it once, but hers was not one. If he remembered correctly, he had heard it once, but the pronunciation was rather confusing, meaning he had just as quickly forgotten it. Quite unfortunate, but her appearance stood out enough for him to pick her out amongst any given crowd. In fact, he had spotted her multiple times in the hallway.
On one fateful day, Elias had decided he simply must introduce himself to someone of her stature. He did kinda need a meister partner anyway, after all! Perhaps someone like her would work with him. Though, he couldn’t be sure. She did seem rather reserved. Perhaps his charm could break through to her? Whatever, didn’t matter. Elias merely wished to get to know her better. Spotting her in the hall, he quickly walked past her, then turned around to stand in front of her. Such an action would hopefully stop a person without any actual physical contact.
”My sincerest apologies for taking up your time, miss.” The boy said, placing a hand over his chest and bowing his head slightly, before attempting to create eye contact with the girl. One thing he had surprisingly not noticed until now was that her eyes were a nice shade of purple. Made sense, since she seemed to wear quite a bit of purple. The eyes seemed a bit piercing, in such a way that most people, might they be somewhat bashful, wouldn’t establish eye contact for too long. Elias was not bashful in the slightest, of course. As Elias began to speak again, he brought the hand that had been over his chest outwards, as to add additional significance to the words he spoke. ”But it appears you’ve best distancing yourself quite a bit from everyone else. Might I be honoured with hearing a rationale for the deed of not allowing others to be graced with your presence?”
With these words, Elias paused, waiting for the girl to say something. With hope, she wouldn’t be one of the girls who took a compliment negatively.

Having only been enrolled in Shibusen for a short time now, a few weeks at the most, Gardenia was still getting acclimated to this new environment and routine. She'd never attended a school before, and the sheer amount of fellow students attending was a bit overwhelming at first. Of course she knew that there would be several others students around her at any given time, but that was just an abstract idea up till now. To experience the concrete reality of it was another matter entirely.
Gardenia's first few days had been the most stressful, but things had settled by this point in a way that she was somewhat comfortable with. The class rooms were so much bigger then she had imagined, and thankfully there was not enough students in any given class period to necessitate every seat to be filled. Being the diligent student she was, she always made sure to get to class early, and thus taking her seat rarely involved maneuvering around other seated students. Unfortunately, during her first week, a lot of, admittedly friendly, students had sought to seat themselves by her, but the distance between the seats were not quite spaced far enough apart for her comfort. She kindly requested that they not sit next to her, and though it was certainly an odd request, they generally acquiesced, and in time, it came to be known that she was simply to be left neighborless.
Such eccentricities, however, had the unfortunate consequence of giving the wrong message to her peers. While she was never rude or anything of the sort, the desire to keep her distance at times gave the impression that she was haughty or snobbish, or otherwise thought herself better than everyone else. The way she carried herself and her relatively expensive taste in fashion certainly did not help dissuade such an impression, but the young lady didn't really see such a problem; that was simply what she was accustomed to, and she felt that maintaining such an image projected a sense of her confidence and even gave off a sense of professionalism.
Gardenia hadn't really befriended any fellow students at this point, but that didn't bother her much. She would occasionally converse with acquaintances, and she had made no enemies. Over all, things were going smoothly for her. Granted, she had yet to find a weapon partner, but she figured there was plenty of time for that. It was more important that she found a weapon she was suited to, such as a sword or a bow, than to simply partner up with anyone simply because the opportunity presented itself. She knew there were some fellow NOT students who fit those parameters, but she had yet to engage them in any manner; she wished to acclimate herself to the school itself before actively seeking camaraderie.
On one particular day, Gardenia was making her way through the hallway. Nothing spectacular, to be sure; a typical part of her routine. She didn't have any other mean of traversing between classes, after all. Her outfit was nothing out of the usual for her: a purple blouse, in fact a favorite of hers, a white skirt that went down to her ankles, for she hadn't any bruises on her legs recently, and some simple, but elegant, black shoes. Her hair was let down fully, but it was well groomed and there was not a single strand out of place, and for accessories she had an amethyst inlaid choker and some plain golden cuffs on her left ear. She held her journals and textbooks to her chest and had a pen tucked in behind her ear.
Thankfully, the halls of Shibusen were wide enough for Gardenia's sensibilities, and the other students rarely felt the need to run around haphazardly. Thus, it wasn't much of a task to keep her radius of personal space clear whilst walking. She would occasionally say hi or good day to a peer or school staff member in passing, or be greeted herself by another, but otherwise she was content in her solitude as she walked from where she was to her destination.
That is, she was alone, up until a blonde boy cut ahead of her and stopped her from pursuing her path further. He was a rather distinctive fellow, visually, and Gardenia had a degree of recognition go through her mind as she took the sight of him in. She felt as if though she had saw him in some of her classes before, and maybe in passing as well. He was at the very least polite enough to apologize for stopping her, and Gardenia resolved to listen to what he had to say.
"Graced with my presence? That's... an odd way to put it. Surely, a compliment, right? But the way he said it... was that supposed to be a come on? Oh dear, I'd really rather not deal with that." To further Gardenia's annoyance with the flirtatious boy, he had stopped her to ask a question she'd rather not answer. Her eyebrow twitched slightly, but other than that she retained her typically calm demeanor. "I simply prefer such; I realize that it might seem odd, but I'd rather minimize the distractions about me in school." She said in an even tone, her Swedish accent present but not very pronounced. She stated the truth, and it was hopefully a satisfactory answer for the boy; after all, it would be quite the distraction for her to keep track of any neighbor's movements so as to make sure no contact was made accidentally. Other people typically didn't specifically avoid such, and could unintentionally space their hand too far apart and bump into her own hand; that would be most unfortunate, and she didn't want to have an episode in the midst of class.

Though Elias did not notice the girl’s eyebrow twitch, he did, obviously, notice what she had said. ”Yea. Odd indeed...” Elias thought to himself, bringing a hand to his chin. He looked oddly pensive for a man of his disposition. Furthermore, he didn’t seem to notice this, as Elias was not one to be fond of conveying his thought in emotion. He had just been caught a bit off guard by the girl’s reply. ”A wise woman once told me that if you simply do what you’re good at, you’re not living and are no more than a machine. Well, not really me. That was from a rather lengthy book, if I recall correctly. So she’d be the ‘machine’ type, then? Oh no no no. That simply will not do! An absolute waste of such beauty and talent.” As this thought crossed Elias’ mind, the hand that had been resting under his chin was suddenly brushed through the front of his hair. ”I best make it my civic duty to allow this girl to experience life a bit less... robotically. As it were.”
”Well, I suppose that’s only fair. Everyone has their preferences, after all.” Elias said. Though he was lying, he gave no indication to such. He was rather skilled in the art of lying by this point. Normally, people would let the other go after having their question answered, but Elias wasn’t particularly satisfied. Not at all, infact. At the very least, he had to know her name. ”In any case, may I ask your name?”
Elias had noted the slight accent, and was somewhat lost in the thoughts of trying to decode to what country it was from. It most definitely sounded European, but not at all like his accent. Also slight, but also very german. In all fairness, Elias’ wasn’t well versed in the different accents of different regions. He had no time to learn such things, and no extended family from other countries to speak of either. Through the process of elimination he eventually concluded the girl to be... Norwegian? No, no. That wasn’t right. Scottish? Maybe. He’d have to ask, but first he’d get her name first.
Wait, that’s right. Elias had just asked her for her name. His expression appeared panicked as he noted his error. No, no. This would simply not do! It was custom that when asking a name, one gave their own first. It was rude to ask of a name while the other had no idea your name. Why was this again? Wasn’t it due to ancient beliefs on knowing one’s name meaning you had some control over that pers- Gah! Elias’ mind was rambling at this point. With a quick bow as to hide his panicked expression, Elias began to speak again. His voice was cool, despite the fact his mind was rather panicked. ”My name is that of Elias. Elias Larenz, to get into specifics.” Well, that hopefully made things better. Despite the longish pause. Elias wasn’t quite sure how long the pause had been, as his mind did work quickly, in all fairness.

Gardenia observed as Elias took a pensive posture in response to her answer. "What is he thinking? Surely, he realizes he's being a bother by stopping me like this, and asking such a personal question... did my answer really bear contemplation? Please, don't let it be that he's thinking of how to extend his welcome." She leaned slightly to her left, trying to look towards the hallway past him. She resettled into her standard posture shortly, and pursed her lips as realized she didn't really have anyway to get past him. "Oh, I wish I could just move on past him before he says something else... but what if he stepped to block my path, again? I can't risk moving towards him, I have to get him to excuse himself."
The boy flipped his hair with his hand, presumably finished with whatever though he had, and Gardenia's lips returned to their default gentle expression. He was now asking her name, and though the way he spoke could be considered respectful, she couldn't help but notice he had neglected something. He didn't introduce himself first! It was rather poor manners to ask a lady, or anyone really, her name before introducing themselves in return. "He's clearly flustered, to forget something so basic. Why is he so interested in me, anyways? Asking question after question like this? He should figure that I wouldn't be interested in... the kind of thing he might be hoping for. And he certainly isn't changing my mind."
In her growing annoyance, Gardenia wasn't paying particular mind to observe the boy and his nonverbal expressions. She simply wished to go about on her way, as she had to perhaps get a light snack before going to her next class. With the way Elias was keen on eating her time, however, she feared that if this continued much longer she would not have the opportunity to do so and still get to class early enough for her liking. The boy evidently realized his error in etiquette, as he bowed to introduce himself. It was only a few seconds between that and when he asked for her name, so Gardenia resolved to not hold it too much against him. "My name is Gardenia Oslin," she replied, curtly. "It has been a pleasure to make your acquaintance, Elias." She said, trying to subtly indicate that the conversation had run its course. At least, to her own liking.

Gardenia’s reply sounded rather curt, only adding to Elias’ worry. He knew how to take a hint. However, he also often continued to talk with any given girl. He was a determined one. Sure, he’d take no for an answer, but not in this case. However, he had taken up more than enough of this girl’s time. There was time to spare, of course, so he’d best offer to escort her to class. ”Well, I suppose I best let you go now. Again, my apologies for taking up your time. However, I insist on esco-”
Elias’ voice was cut off by sudden coughing into his left, gloved hand. ”Gah!” He exclaimed, while still coughing. Despite how often he tasted it, Elias still wasn’t fond of the taste of blood. Due to his nervousness, he had accidentally bitten down on his tongue while talking. Rather hard too, as a bit of blood was visible on his hand. Not good. Such a feat is obviously not attained by a normal someone. Normal people don’t normally bite off their tongues while talking, as they have the reflexes to move it out of the way. Not Elias, of course. When talking, he bit on his tongue in frequent. It didn’t really matter. He never bit hard enough to cause much damage. Unless he was stressed, of course. Like right now.
Hopefully Gardenia, as unlikely as it was, was that of the understanding type. ”Joy, she probably thinks I’m a complete spazz at this point.” Elias thought as he was unable to regain his composure. ”Or a very sickly individual one would best not be around. Not untrue, but it’s not like I can pass on the lack of the ability to feel. Good thing to. Tis not a curse I’d wish upon my greatest enemy.”
The whole ordeal was most likely turning quite a few heads. Though the halls weren’t very crowded, they also weren’t completely devoid of people either, since no classes were currently in session.

Gardenia nodded, growing a bit anxious about finally getting on her way, as the boy was talking on about letting her go on by. However, she let out a soft gasp as his voice was caught off, and he brought his hand up to cover a fit of coughing. She wasn't sure what was going on, but she did assume he was being genuine. A more cynical individual might have thought this was a ploy on Elias's part to retain her attention, but the concern that the suddenness of the action raised dissolved any ill thoughts she may have had of the boy. Which she honestly didn't have too much of in the first place, at least nothing too bad; his presence at the moment just demanded attention she wasn't keen on diverting regardless.
She started to extend her right hand towards him, but then retracted it just as quickly. She wasn't quite sure what to do in this situation. She looked around at the others in the hallway, and noticed that there were a few people looking at the two. Though, unfortunately, no one was coming up to ask the boy what was wrong. Which put that responsibility on Gardenia. Not that she was against such, but it would have certainly been preferable for someone else to take the reins. She inhaled a relatively deep breath to help calm her nerves, and she spoke up to Elias, quietly so as to not draw further attention. "Excuse me, Elias, are you alright? Do you need to head to the nurse?"

Though Elias was unable to answer Gardenia immediately due to his current coughing fit, his mind was certainly put to ease when she didn’t immediately abandon him. Eventually, the coughing ceased once the blood taste had vanished. The boy quickly brought the hand he had been coughing into through his hair. ”You needn’t worry. I’m quite alright, Gardenia.” He said. His voice seemed a tad raspy, but nothing too noticeable. Said raspiness had disappeared after he began talking once more after a short pause. ”Though I appreciate the concern. Truly. You are rather kind hearted.”
Though Elias might have been fine at this point, his mental status calming with his physical one, he best be safe rather than sorry. Suffering a stroke was not one way to get a girl, and his body temperature was probably a bit too high at this point. ”Ah... If you excuse me, for a moment’s notice.” With these words, Elias removed one of his gloves. The hand under his glove was covered in bandage, which looked to have been changed recently. The only bit of the hand not covered was the tips of the fingers, allowing for gripping of smaller objects, presumably. The bandages continued up his forearms and to his sleeves. Odd. That must have been why he wore gloves all the time. Elias had done this to open a small container of pills, grabbing one and quickly swallowing it. As he did this, the red that had grown on his cheeks vanished.
The pill was for keeping Elias’ body heat at sustainable levels. With no sense of touch, and no ability to sense heat, that was a constant issue. As Elias put away the case into one of his pockets and put his glove back on, he turned his attention back to the girl standing before him. ”Well, my apologies for the scene I may have caused.” He said, his voice fully calm now. ”But, as I was saying, how about I escort you to class?”

Gardenia brought her extended hand, for even though it retracted reflexively it was still used to cover her mouth when she spoke discreetly, back to the supplies she was holding, as they were starting to slip being held by only the one. Her concern was dying down as Elias assured her he was fine, but it was still peculiar. His voice was raspy, which meant he probably had something in his throat, and upon closer inspection she could see blood on his lips. Why was he coughing up blood? In any case, that was never pleasant; Gardenia could vouch for that from personal experience.
To add to Elias's peculiarity, he took off his glove, and his arm and hand were wrapped in bandages. He clearly had a medical condition of some sort, but she had no inclination as to what. Additionally, he was taking a pill of some sort. Was he sure he didn't need to go to the nurse? Upon taking the pill, his cheeks seemed to lessen in color. That was a bit of a clue as to what it did, but Gardenia still didn't quite understand what his condition was.
Elias maintained his polite manner of speaking, and asked Gardenia to escort her to class. She still wasn't too keen on spending more time with the chap, but she figured she could humor him at least if he was letting her go on her way. He was an interesting enough bloke, so spending some time with him couldn't hurt. Besides, perhaps he could prove to be a good enough friend, in time. "Well, actually I was going to stop by the cafeteria for a small snack first... you could still come along if you wish, though, Elias," she said, a small smile on lips.

”Ah. Most excellent. She isn’t prying at all. Despite the fact I have no problem with discussing what ails me, it isn’t really the most pleasing thing to discuss. Plus most ladies would be repulsed.” Elias thought. He quite liked this Gardenia girl. She was rather pleasant, despite what he might have been inclined to believe originally. ”In any case, I appreciate it. Though if she is to ask I best tell her. No point in not doing so, really.”
“Ah yes. But of course.” Elias said in response to Gardenia’s words. ”Again, I apologize for the time I must have taken up. Certainly not wasted on my end, of course.” With these words, Elias gave yet another short bow, and stepped aside as to allow Gardenia to pass. He made sure she was slightly in front of him, as to make sure he was headed in the right direction. Elias didn’t have a great internal compass, after all. It also gave him an excuse to not touch her or anything. Though Elias imagined the gesture to be gentlemanly, he could never be sure if he was hurting the girl, or the like. Best not tread on her toes.
As the two walked, Elias’ mind ran through possible conversation options. ”Well, I best ask her something about herself. Best not sound narcissistic. But what subject specifically? Perhaps her wardrobe? No, no. Such a compliment would not allow for much discussion. Nor would most compliments. A simple question would work... Let’s see...” Once Elias had thought of the suitable question, he spoke up once more. His german accent seemed a tad more obvious now, for whatever reason. ”I don’t suppose you’ve found a partner yet, have you?” He asked, recalling overhearing other students talking about her skills. ”Apparently you’ve been noted around the others for being quite powerful for someone in a NOT class. You needn’t worry if you haven’t, of course. Nor have I, to be quite honest.”

Gardenia nodded as Elias bowed, walking forward past him. He followed along behind, still a little close for Gardenia's liking. Though, he was keeping his hands to himself, and he seemed to have some understanding of her need for space. That eased her mind a bit, but she didn't completely let her guard down. Things should go smoothly, though, so long as he was mindful.
The young lady had to admit that the companionable silence as they walked along was a nice change of pace. Not something she would like to grow accustomed to, but just a little now and then wouldn't hurt. She nodded her head in greeting to some acquaintances as she walked along, some of them with faces that showed a bit surprised to see that she was walking with company.
Yes, it was quite smooth sailing through the hallways. Elias wasn't asking anymore personal questions, and Gardenia could lighten up a bit. After a while of silence though, Elias spoke up once more. She took note of his more pronounced accent, German, she thought. It wasn't pertinent information, but it was still something of note. He listened to his question calmly, not surprised the topic came up. She didn't consider it a sensitive topic, though it was still a bit personal. What he said after the question, however, caught her by surprise. "Others are talking about me? Dear... well, I suppose it is true that not every meister in the NOT classes can use such a technique as mine. Though, they are a bit mistaken, my Soul Purge isn't exactly strong..." She thought to herself, before answering Elias's question. "Well, no, I don't have a weapon partner yet, as a matter of fact. I'd rather not rush such a thing."

”Ah, right. I understand completely. Though my reasoning for not having a partner is a bit different, as it’s under the pretense of glaring issues when it comes to me being in a battle situation. I can take a hit and all because of said glaring issues, but...” Though it didn’t seem abrupt, Elias had cut himself off realizing what he was saying. He obviously wasn’t paying too much attention to what he had been saying, as the information he had dispelled was under the pretense of Gardenia knowing about his condition, which she didn’t. Not good. Now she would most certainly ask questions.
”Bah. What am I to do now? I’m not usually so tongue tied. People who are are certainly of the unfortunate sort. Perhaps I should tell her cooly? Would be much better than making her ask me herself. That would be most unfortunate. Or, I could change the subject... No, that won’t work. An underestimation of her intelligence, to be assured. Plan A it is, then.” As Elias thought this, he suddenly felt as though he was no longer able to talk. The silence after he had finished his last word had been rather lengthy, making the situation all the more awkward.
Once Elias had mustered up the will to speak again, he did so in as calm a manner as he could. ”Yes, one would think feeling no pain would be a benefit. But that also means no heat control either. Tis an issue, surely.” Though Elias had attempted his best to sound natural, his speech seemed a tad disjointed. Not anything spectacularly obvious, mind, but it was a bit troublesome to hear coming from one’s own mouth unintentionally. Such caused Elias to stop paying complete attention, averting his eyes from Gardenia. His pace also increased slightly.
The difference in pace had caused Elias to quickly catch up with Gardenia. The small space in between them before was quickly diminished, causing Elias to lightly bump into the back of Gardenia’s shoulder. Fortunately, he wasn’t blind, meaning this was no more than a light nudge, as he noticed such and quickly backpedaled to be at a suitable distance once again. ”Ah... My apologies.”

Gardenia listened as Elias responded, but with her eyes firmly ahead of her. He was rambling a bit, but suddenly cut off. He wasn't coughing again, though, so she didn't pay him much mind. She wasn't quite sure what to make of what he said, and figured Elias had realized that and was going to try and repeat himself at a calmer pace. He had a bit of a motor mouth, as it was turning out. Hopefully, if he was going to continue being in her company, the lad would get more comfortable and calm down his speech.
He eventually did continue his thought, calmer. His voice was a bit odd sounding at this pace, though. However, Gardenia wasn't very familiar with German accents and figured it wasn't anything to unusual. "Feel no pain? Hmm..." She thought to herself at this new information. It was a peculiar condition, one which she hadn't ever heard of. Might be why he was in the NOT class, since he also said he had a partial weapon form.
”Ah... My apologies.”
Gardenia's breathing halted, as she felt a searing torch placed against her shoulder. Her books and journals fell onto the floor, temporarily losing control of her muscles as her heart pounded against her chest. Shapes which appeared distinct before became amorphous blots upon her eyes. Her breathing returned, only to find that the air was thin; gasping desperately, she fell down onto her knees, her face cast downward. Her arms twitched, blood pumping viciously in her veins as she brought her right hand up to her shoulder, feeling around for the scarred flesh. Her left arm wrapped itself around her waist instinctively. She couldn't remember what she was just doing; what was happening. She just wanted the burning to stop. With the rush of adrenaline, she didn't even feel her knees, covered by her skirt, as they swelled; the trauma of falling upon them caused hemorrhaging in both.

Elias’ had begun to look away from Gardenia once again, and had brought a hand to the back of his head. Though he had just walked backwards a few steps, the boy had only taken one step forwards again when he heard what sounded like dropping books. ”Hm? Did I push them out of her hands? Didn’t think the bump was that bad...” As this thought passed through Elias’ mind, his attention was drawn back to the girl in front of him, to see she had slumped over onto her knees. ”Ah....?!”
The boy seemed to be moving in slow motion for a second. What had he done? Why was she hunched over like that? It wasn’t like he had pushed her over. No, she’d have fallen forward completely, not just slumped over top her knees. An arm wrapped around her waist, the other her shoulder, where Elias had bumped into her. So, it was clearly his fault. But, what had he done, exactly? No more than make physical contact, he assured himself. There were no points on his jacket or anything. He wasn’t holding anything in a pocket that might have injured her.
So what, then? When researching his own disease, Elias had learned quite a lot about sensual problems. There was one in regards to one’s nerves being super sensitive, but that couldn’t be it. That involved twitching, quite a bit of that, and she wouldn’t have been able to hold those books of hers. No others came to mind. Not an ailment. Okay, what else could it align with? Phobias...? Maybe. Haphephobia came to mind first. If he recalled correctly, it had intrigued him greatly. The fear of something he wanted oh so badly. Perhaps she had that. No, it didn’t matter. Elias had frozen in spot, his face drawing a blank. ”Gardenia! Are you okay?!” He suddenly exclaimed, mustering the ability to move.
No answer was expected, of course. Though absolutely appreciated if she were able to reply, it was unlikely in Elias’ mind. Not with the current state she was in. He had remembered once being paralyzed to the point he was unable to move. It happened on occasion, should he not take his medication and also not frequent a checkup. Her position reminded him of that. Plus, she clearly was not okay. Elias quickly turned to kneel in front of her, about to extend a hand to calm her down. He quickly retracted this hand, however, as he remembered his phobia theory. That would certainly not help, if that was the case. Instead, Elias grabbed her books, neatly placing any loose papers in one of the binders. He decided to ask the question again, this time in a much gentler and less panicked tone. Not to say he wasn’t panicked, but he best put on an act. For Gardenia’s sake, at least. ”Gardenia? Are you alright?” Despite his calm voice, it was impossible to not hear the loud gulp after the words were spoken. ”...Is there anything you wish for me to do?”

A voice, a distant voice, echoed through Gardenia's ears. The words were clear but held no meaning. She continued to rub her shoulder, trying to sooth the burns. There was no ointment. The rubbing helped none. The sensation was getting worse. It wasn't helping! But she couldn't just stop her hand. It wanted to be there. The burns could just get worse if the hand was removed. Best just keep it there.
Air was still scarce. The fire must be taking it all. Consume the breath to sear the flesh. She was trembling. It was surprisingly cold. The blurry blobs started to shift about on the ground, merging together. A new glossy black blob was egging them on. Head raised slowly, trying to listen to echoing voice once more. It was coming from a big, red, black, and gold blob. Probably. It seemed familiar somehow. It was a person. Right, Elias. Elias, Elias, Elias. She was walking with Elias. He was behind her. To her left. He wasn't anymore. He was in front. He was kneeling, looking at her, likely. He was close.
"G-" She uttered. A guttural sound, the letter g.
"Get away!" Turn around, face away. Stand up, get away. Leave behind, stay away.
Steps faltered, knees failing. Lean right, shoulder against locker.
Catch breath.
Away. Stay away. Must not look back. Others. Other were looking. What were they looking at? Oh dear. Were they looking at her? She couldn't tell. Where were their eyes? Their faces were just blobs. How could they even see like that? Must be awfully inconvenient.

As Gardenia spoke once more, Elias’ face went pale. Get away? Heaven forbid, he could not merely abandon this girl simply because she had asked him too. In fact, he wasn’t even allowed to, as any further movement by his muscles seemed impossible. Saying Elias could feel nothing at all was a bit of a lie, for he could feel his own bones and joints and the like faintly, but not now. A numbness had covered his entire body to the point he felt as though he would pass out. But he couldn’t do that. That would leave Gardenia to fend for herself, which she obviously couldn’t do.
No, Elias would be fine. He still had the ability to move, unlike her. For he was still clutching Gardenia’s books, a feat impossible when one was paralyzed. No one else was bothering to help, after all. Despite the girl kneeling down on the floor, and the boy trying to console her, they did nothing. People were of the rather cruel variety nowadays, it seemed.
Elias let out a deep breath, trying to calm himself. He’d need to be calm if he wished to help Gardenia. Her words were a bit of a solace, actually. It most certainly was a phobia as opposed to an illness, due to her words sounding very fearful. Now, Elias had naught a phobia to speak of. Sure, he was afraid of some things, but he wasn’t one to be paralyzed in said fear. Nor fearful so much of something seemingly so minor. Now, with a phobia, one would not be able to move when noting something the phobia entails. Rather crippling, that was.
But the fact that it was a phobia also meant Gardenia might die or the like, despite that she might feel she will. So, if Elias simply stayed with her until she felt better, everything would be alright. She might hate him now, but that was okay. It wasn’t like he wasn’t used to such feelings being held towards him. ”No, Gardenia. I refuse to abandon you.” He said, trying to sound as calm as possible.
