Oslin; Gardenia; Meister
Name: Gardenia Oslin
Nickname: Gardenia, Nia
Age: 17
Gender: Female
Race: Meister
Position: Student
Class: NOT
Partner: None, yet
A Strong Body
Picture:
Appearance:
Gardenia stands at an impressive height, almost six feet. Her figure could best be described as slim, and the way she carries herself as graceful. She keeps herself well groomed and her lightly-pigmented skin is about as vibrant as her genetics would allow, barring sun-burn. She has light golden blonde hair, whose style tends to vary based on the occasion, that she typically keeps long enough to reach the middle of her back. The irises of her eyes are a purple hue. Her facial features are youthful, but with the way she carries herself and her height she could easily pass as a fully grown young adult.
Gardenia has a rather extensive wardrobe, and she enjoys dressing up to an extent. Her choice of clothing on any given day typically correlates to what she expects to do that day, with a variety of different outfits for casual, semi-formal, formal, sporty, or even exceptionally fancy occasions. She has no particular preferences for what kind of clothes she likes to wear, and can be seen wearing pants, skirts, shorts, blouses, sweaters, jackets, or anything else with fairly distributed ratios. She finds that cooler colors look better on her than warm colors, and most of her colored clothes are shades of violet or blue. She keeps her accessory count light for most outfits, but she frequently wears amethyst stones upon her neck, whether it be on a choker or pendant.
Height: 5' 10”
Weight: 142 lbs.
Fighting Style:
Gardenia can't handle unarmed combat very well. If she is without a weapon, she will either attempt to run away or keep her distance by placing obstacles in between her and her opponent. She will throw anything she can get her hands on or pickup pipes or tools to use as impromptu weapons. Her Soul purge ability is practically useless in dealing direct damage, but she will occasionally find uses for it to be employed in indirect manners.
When armed, however, Gardenia takes on a much more offensive and aggressive fighting style. In melee, she will use her reflexes and agility along with the skills she accrued in fencing to fend off enemy blows or outright dodge them, and to strike at any holes she can perceive in her enemies defense. Barring that, such as when fighting against an opponent who relies on overwhelming her with an all out offense, she'll keep her distance and attempt to outmaneuver them. In ranged combat, she generally attempts to fire off shots at as rapid a pace as she can, hoping to at the very least keep the opponent on the defensive and suppressed from counter attacking. She is capable of more accurate and focused shots, but she rarely wishes to risk relenting her assault even in instances where focused shots would be the strategically sound alternative.
Her main goal in combat is to not get hit, for she knows that even a single wound could prove her undoing. She is surprisingly determined to not back down from any fight, though, and her plan is that she simply has to be skilled enough to not be injured; thus she spends a great deal of time and effort honing her combat skills.
Personality:
Gardenia is a determined but reserved individual. She has no desire to garner attention, and simply wishes to go about her own business undisturbed. This isn't to say she is a cold or distant person, though; if she has something she wishes to say or someone comes up to her to discuss something on their mind, she'll gladly speak and have a friendly demeanor. She tends to maintain a calm and serene voice, for she is neither soft spoken nor easily irritated. However, attempting to flirt with her generally leaves a poor first impression.
This young lady does not like to reveal to others any weaknesses she has, for she does not want them to feel pity for her or to treat her with anything other than mutual respect; prominently, she'll attempt to avoid any physical contact in social interactions, but she doesn't want to cite her haphephobia as an excuse. Gardenia always keeps her own hands close to herself, but still in sight so as to not seem rude, and keeps herself at a comfortable distance, generally at least 7 feet, from anyone at any given time. However, if she either feels herself surrounded or that someone is attempting force physical contact with her, she will noticeably start to feel panic set in and will try to excuse herself from the situation as soon as she can, and prolonged discomfort could lead to her seeming socially awkward at the very least.
Gardenia is an optimist and an idealist; she thinks the best of herself and always tries to see the best in others. She is averse to establishing interpersonal conflicts, and will seek diplomatic resolutions to any problem that either arises between her and another, or between two parties to which she is a third party. She holds on tightly to the idea that people are naturally good, and she will appeal to this humanity in even the most perverse or abrasive individuals. Her default attitude towards others is one of respect, but that is not to say that her respect can't be loss, sometimes quickly. She wishes to be a forgiving person, but she frequently finds it difficult to excuse others when it comes to matters of breaking trust.
Inside the Soul
Abilities:
Soul Purge: Gardenia has some basic skill in the use of Soul Purge. The ability came rather naturally to her, where as she has had absolutely no luck in learning Soul Perception. Currently, her basic proficiency with soul purge only allows her to channel her soul wavelength through her right hand.
Radiant Soul: Gardenia has a soul that shines a brilliant gold, and this inner guiding light gives her a strong sense of self-identity and self-worth. This results in the ability for her to resonate, or otherwise control her soul wavelength, at an accelerated rate, which currently has the known application of enabling a capacity for rapid uses of her Soul Purge. However, each individual resonance is only a brief flash, and packs less of a surge than a soul purge of a meister with comparable skill. Out of your Mind
Strengths:
Combat Skills(fencing and archery), Agile, Quick Reflexes, Good Balance
Weaknesses:
Haphephobia, Strategically Inept, Poor Endurance, Hemophilia
Hobbies:
Gardenia's primary passion is gardening and similar botanical endeavors. She finds it a peaceful activity, and it is the method she most often employs in relieving stress. She prefers growing flowers over fruits or vegetables, mostly because of the aromas that come with maintaining a flower garden. She's also fond of bonsai trees, and of butterfly watching.
Gardenia may not be fond of many sports, but she does make a few exceptions. She takes great pride in her skills in archery and fencing, pursuits which she had been participating in since a young age at the behest of her parents wanting her to participate in somethings which could be healthy exercise for her and they knew would be safe. She finds that while such competitions can put stress on her, the satisfaction she derives from it has kept her engaged in it. Thankfully, these particular sports neither require direct physical contact or provide substantial risks of injury.
Back home she had a horse who she was fond of, and she enjoyed taking care of it and riding it. However, she had to leave it in the care of someone else upon enrolling into Shibusen.

Aspirations:
Gardenia's primary goal at this point in her life is to establish herself as an independent individual who does not need special care and who is not to be viewed as 'fragile'. She desires to overcome or otherwise cope with her debilitating phobia, and to find a place as a meister despite her hemophilia. Her most immediate goal is to advance from the NOT classes.
History:
Born into a high class family in Sweden, Gardenia's life was slated to be one of leisure and comfort. Her parents didn't even need her to inherit and manage the family estate and wealth, for she had an older brother who was highly competent and adored. Overall, little was expected of her since the moment of her birth. Her family was not cruel or neglectful, per say, but the ambivalence they had towards her as a person was a defining aspect of her early development as a child up to her adolescence.
Gardenia's young childhood was a period of confusion for both her and her family. When she was learning to walk, she would bruise and swell with alarming intensity. She was eventually diagnosed with Hemophilia Type B; an exceptionally rare case of it, being that she's a female. This instilled a great fear in her family that she would inadvertently suffer an early death, and thus she was treated with extra special care. She was never without supervision, and was forbidden from participating in certain activities. The young girl understood that there was a reason for this, but she couldn't help but feel stifled, or humiliated, even. The adults never tried to explain cohesively what was wrong, never taught her to cope with the condition; they only tried to obfuscate it, to try their best to ignore the problem.
As a young child, around 4 to 5 years of age, she also developed haphephobia. As in most cases of it, a specific origin of it was never definitively determined. The best estimation of its cause would be a combination of environmental factors and learned behavior. In combination with her hemophilia, this caused her to be a withdrawn child, never having friends her own age and her only social interactions being with those supervising her or an occasional situation her parents would arrange for her. She was a contemplative and studious child, and as she grew up she desired agency in her own life. She knew who she was, who she wanted to be, what she wanted to do. Or, at least, she thought she knew what she wanted to be.
For, she stumbled upon the fact that she had a powerful soul, suitable to be a meister. This occurred when in a fit of frustration at the age of 14, she built up a minor resonance within herself, channeled through her right hand. She thought she was seeing things when she saw her hand glow, but her fears of delusion were quelled when her supervisor also commented on it. With this revelation, Gardenia saw an opportunity. Her parents were hesitant to enroll her into Shibusen, but with sufficient cajoling and a sympathetic assistant, Gardenia was permitted to enroll, so long as she was placed safely in the NOT classes.
Extra Notes:
Hemophilia: Gardenia's case of hemophilia leaves her susceptible to severe bleeding. Her blood does not coagulate properly, which means she has to carry around a supply of gauze to stop from bleeding out. This also causes her to suffer from internal hemorrhaging , whether it be from blunt trauma or even spontaneously, on occasion. This spontaneous hemorrhaging causes her to have bruises and/or swelling appear on her body, and she'll typically try to cover it up from the sight of her peers with clothing. The only treatment for hemophilia is frequent blood transfusions, and being Type B, her treatment is by intravenous infusion of factor IX.
Haphephobia: Haphephobia is summarily a fear of touch, or of being touched. This generally applies only to humans, but in Gardenia's case it also applies to the monstrous Kishin. Layers of clothing, such as gloves, don't minimize the fear, as the trigger for the fear is in the recognition that she is being touched, or that someone is attempting to. Her capacity to work in a meister/weapon team is contingent on her being in control; the less she can think of her weapon as a sentient human in the midst of battle, the better she can focus.
When her haphephobia is triggered fully(by actual physical contact; the threat of physical contact causes less severe symptoms that can still affect her ability to function efficiently), she suffers from severe panicking. Intense heart palpitations, blurred vision, and an incapacity to form coherent thoughts are the symptoms that crop up, and it can take quite a while for her to regain her composure, if she doesn't end up passing out.
Her haphephobia also should prove to make it difficult for her to successfully achieve a soul resonance with a weapon partner. Haphephobes can build a relationship where physical contact is possible, but it requires a hefty time investment and can be dissolved by nearly any breach of trust.
Needless to say, her phobia puts a severe dent in her ability to participate in sloppy makeouts.

RP Sample:
Gardenia stopped in front of a wooden door, and compared the designation emblazoned on it with the note, which she had written down earlier, she held in her hand. “Well, this is it, home sweet home. My own abode for the foreseeable future: how exciting!” She thought to herself, as she unclasped the keyring from her belt. It bore only a single key at this point, and thus it was no matter at all for her to insert the proper object into the corresponding receptacle. With a turn of her wrist, the locking mechanism holding the door shut relinquished its dominion to her. She retrieved her key and opened the door, the light of the outside pouring inside the unlit apartment.
The young lady stepped inside, dragging a rolling suitcase behind her with her right hand, feeling around the wall with her left hand to find a way to turn on the light. Her fingers felt a small switch currently angled down, and she effortlessly flipped it up. The light bulbs attached to the fan in the center of the ceiling flashed on, illuminating the humble one person apartment. Gardenia smiled as she looked upon it, and inhaled deeply. She brought her hand up to her mouth and coughed, however, when she inhaled some unexpected dust, “oh, goodness. I might have to spruce this place up a bit...” Still, despite that, she giggled in a fit of happiness, as she brought the suitcase into the middle of the room and sat onto the small sofa set against the wall.

Just one little thing! Being able to build up a resonance with herself for Soul Purge at a higher rate than normal is a bit much for a NOT student. As Gardenia is your second character, you could potentially give her a special soul that allows this. Otherwise, you’ll need to tone her down. Other than that, she looks great!

Well, fun fact, I was planning on giving her a special soul in the earliest phases of writing her application, but I couldn't think of a name or ability. Well, now I have an idea for an ability, so I'll get to work on a name for it(and, also, y'know, work on the ability itself in some depth)!
Thanks, should have my revision up soon!
edit: and revised! Hope her special soul is balanced enough for your tastes.
