"... Man i wish it wasn't such a nice day, then i could find an excuse to put off exercising this week... Heh probably for the best then, it'll be good for me as useless at as i am." As one might guess physical conditioning wasn't Merric's favorite thing about Shibusen but… It needed to be done and with the weather being as it was with the cooling breeze and fairly forgiving temperature it was the perfect day for it, especially for a run and to be honest... He probably needed to improve anyway, bad enough for his chances that he was blind it'd be even worse if he where lazy too. Regardless after spending an hour of his morning reading and just putting it off on account of it being a nice day, Merric fixed himself something quick to eat and prepared a meatball sub for lunch before making his way over to the track. The fact that he was planing on exercising didn't much affect his choice of clothing though cause he was wearing a nice white jacket with a black t-shirt and slacks in the same style as usual... It was kinda his favorite set.
Upon reaching the track he left his lunch in the dojo and ran along the track for a while... Though it soon devolved into more of a leisurely jog. While Merric knew that he should have been taking it a bit more seriously but it wasn't much fun without any competition, all he was doing was beating his old records by a bit each time... That wasn't very challenging and there where few ways to turn running into a fun thing without making his way outside of Shibusen, but then he wouldn't be able to listen to others practice fighting and he really needed to work on combat more than he needed to get faster. He wasn't going to impress a potential Miester by running away would he?
After 'running', if you could call it that, for what Merric figured was a long enough period of time he came back into the dojo and sat down by the door to observe whoever was practicing today while he ate his lunch. Sadly it seemed that nobody else was training today, pretty hard to learn anything if there was nobody to learn from. "Heh i suppose i'm the only one who figured today was a nice day to train, bet everyone else decided to go out into the city or something like that..." Though after pondering that for a few more bites he smirked and relaxed further. "Wellll i suppose that means that i can relax here for a little while and take a dip in the pool for once, seeing as it probably won't be as crowded as usual hehehe."

Hours and hours had passed. Wonderful. Irene Dixon had just flipped the day before. While she had spent so much effort to distance herself from her past, to let it recede to the back of her mind, to focus on getting better… Everything just hit her at once on the previous day. The bitterness she held for her parents. Pressure being forced upon an unwilling child. Severe loss just a year or so ago. And holding it all back… It was like it made things seventeen times worse. The little cracks had given way and created a wave. Punching a wall was stupid. It was just a repeat of that day. That day that just started the downward spiral of where who she was now. Unstable. Unreliable. She had been thinking like this all evening and morning. Trying to sleep, but consistently being awoken by her own thoughts. Attempting to gain some sort of rest, even into the late hours of the morning. But all she felt was disgust, hatred, irritation… Well, the bigger point was, that she was feeling. And not just that vague feeling that she could hide behind her mask. It was pure and easily distinguishable. She could feel the negativity taking over her face and expression, the deep lines of a frown embedded into her lips, the tenseness of her jaw… Closing her eyes once again, the woman sighed with a bit of effort. She had to get up. She had to do something else. This lying here was doing her no good. And with that, she got herself up. The only thing she thought to do was go to the school and train. Get some energy out, maybe that would help her settle back into who she was. That helped before… right? It was one of the fastest times she had gotten ready. Saving a shower until after her training, quickly getting dressed, not feeling up to eating… she was out the door in ten minutes. Moving with a purpose, she headed for the school’s dojo. Irene didn’t want to be held up by anyone, didn’t want to really see anybody… even less so than normal. Head down, eyes mostly on the ground before her, she looked like she was obviously avoiding the world, the tenseness keeping her almost rigid. The time between her bed and getting to the dojo lasted too damn long. Her senses never really focused on anything specific, but wherever she was… she felt watched. Inwardly, she was fuming and unsettled. Why would people look at her? What was wrong with her? Why couldn’t she be left alone? Throwing open the door to the dojo, it crashed loudly as it smacked against the wall and then swung back towards the girl. Still passing through the door, Irene’s hand had still been raised to halt the door before it smacked her in return. Ceasing movement with a dull thud, she swung the door closed behind her with considerably less force. Her entrance had occurred during the middle of Merric’s last sentence. Not reacting to him at first, Irene moved a few steps into the dojo, then stopped. Hesitating in her movements. Should she say something? Did she want to say something? Slowly turning her head, she cracked her knuckles as she spoke. ”They say only crazy people talk aloud to themselves.”Not quite sure what she meant by that, she turned her head back away from the kid to look around the dojo. No one was here. She had merely thought so when she first walked in, but this was more of a confirmation. No one. Except for him. Maybe… she should get rid of him. She didn’t want people watching. She didn’t want to feel uneasy. All she wanted was some rest. Her face a bit harder in expression, she looked to Merric again. Eating. She thought she spotted that. Black and white colors being worn. Light red hair. Looked somewhat skinny, though not weakly so. Probably tall, he looked like he had long legs. And… His one eye was covered. She didn’t recognize him, so she wasn’t quite sure if he was injured or it was something more permanent. Regardless, her hard expression remained. ”This isn’t the cafeteria. Thought I’d tell you, just in case you had trouble seeing.”Now THAT was meant to irritate and or drive him away. What she really wanted was for the boy to leave. But, fighting him would be just as good. Maybe she could take out his other eye while she was at it.

When Irene slammed the door into the wall as violently as she did Merric went from relaxed to on edge in an instant, sure he'd heard her coming but the loud entry wasn't really expected and it kinda messed with Merric's 'sight'. So after getting out his last few words he was quiet as he tried to rebuild awareness of his surroundings, only just picking up on her words as he tried to figure out what had just happened... So he was crazy by normal standards eh? Oh well, never made any claims to sanity nor did it sound like much fun either!
Then Irene turned her breath away from him to presumably look around the dojo, if she was looking for a sparring partner then she was out of luck cause it was empty except for him and he wasn't really eager to fight her. The girl sounded pretty tough and judging by what little echos he'd seen after that dam door she looked it too... And pretty but she didn't sound happy that was for sure, she sounded ticked. So he continued to eat while she looked around and when she turned her gaze on him for a bit he smirked but continued eating undisturbed until she spoke up again.
Her suggestion that he wasn't in the cafeteria and crack at his trouble seeing was kinda funny, it was clearly designed to get some sort of rise out of him or at least drive him away but he wasn't going to take the bait... That said she did sound a bit pissed so Merric finished his sub and lazily stood up before stretching out, finishing the movement by leaning lazily against the wall and looking the girl in the eyes with his one good eye. Apparently unperturbed by her hard expression and not taking any of the bait judging by his amused smirk and relaxed tone of voice. "Hahahaha yeah i know i'm just lazy and it was empty till a few moments ago anyway. Thanks for telling me though, i've been having a hard time seeing lately with one good eye in all." His smirk then deepened and he let out a small chuckle before stating. "Besides, i hear that sanity's overrated anyway..." Though after shaking his head dismissively at his own words he extended his right arm and said. "But regardless if you'll forgive my bad manners my name's Merric, nice to meet ya miss?"

Her eyes not daring to leave this red-headed boy, she was a bit surprised to see no form of irritation on his face. If anything… he looked amused. Was he mad?
A bit of confusion cracking the harder expression she had been holding, she continued to look the man over. Relaxed. His whole body seemed to be at ease, so his face shouldn’t be lying. That smirk… She saw it. Even if he was eating. Eyes narrowing just a bit, the confusion slipped away once again. Did he think she was a joke? What exactly was so fucking amusing? This is why she wanted everyone gone. No one understood. No one got it. And she didn’t want anyone trying to. This was her time to figure things out. She wanted him out of here.
The time after her more insulting jab passed slowly. Her words seemed to linger in the air, but it seemed to be more awkward on her side than on his. The boy just finished eating then got up, not a care in the world. Seething, the woman’s whole body seemed to tighten up. Why did he get to be so at ease? Her hands balling into fists, she wanted to just swing a punch at his head. Getting up without a care when she had to care about every little damn thing for some reason.
He even stretched. Lord Death he had to be doing this to irritate her. Leaning against the wall was the last straw. By the time his ‘good’ eye turned to her, she was closing the distance between them. A bit of light flashed over her left fist, the dark strip of metal appearing over her knuckles. He was talking, words spilling from his mouth so easily. It was all a joke. She was a joke. Her words were a joke. Everything was fine. Everything was fun.
He barely got out the end of his last question before Irene was directly in front of him. She punched at an upward angle. The the right side of his head, her left fist, she lodged it into the wall behind him. It came about as high as his jaw, though no contact was the intention. From her expression and tense body language, anyone could tell she was angry. Even her tone of voice wouldn’t betray her.
”We could make it two bad eyes.”
Irene hissed. Ignoring his other words for the moment as she attempted to calm herself. Inwardly, she was fighting. She knew this was beyond the reaction she should be having. But… ever since that incident it was like she couldn’t keep herself in check. She just wanted to tear him apart. Merely because she was mad. But…. mad because he was so at ease?
Placing her right fist against his left side, her knuckles against him, she looked straight at the male’s face.
”I don’t forgive you. And madness is dealt with in one way.”
The bit of light from her partial was somewhat covered by the fabric of his shirt, her partial switching fists.
”Mad things tend to die. And you could easily have a blade in your side.”
She was referring to her second partial form. Not that he had any reason to know that. However… each time she spoke, she seemed to be calming a bit. Her breathing was deep, something intentional. Trying to calm herself. While she still spoke things she was hoping not to, she was keeping herself from moving too much. They were small movements… and, in her mind, not all that harmful. The blunt partial. No actual offense towards him personally, in a physical manner at least… She just needed to rein it back more.

While Merric was speaking he heard the girl advance on him... She seemed a bit angry. Hands balled up into fists, very tense stance, rather impressive muscles rippling under her skin... And forming a partial. Yeah it was a safe bet that she was pissed and he hadn't even opened his mouth, yet another confirmation that he was a natural at pissing people off. So as per usual he was already preparing an apology as he spoke, though with her being as mad as she was he tried to keep it out of his expression so he didn't piss her off more. He even stopped himself from extending his arm towards her as a greeting, not only was she pissed at him but... Its not like that ever worked anyway.
Then the girl took a swing towards him, reaching up towards his head with quite some force despite her punch being a bit slow. Merric sadly tracked the fist with his 'good' eye as it came towards him and waited for it to hit him, if she was that angry with him then he probably earned it in the first place. Though he was inwardly relived when she hit he only returned his eye back to hers to give the angry girl his full 'attention'. It'd be rude to do otherwise with her being so clearly upset.
It wasn't to hard to guess that she wanted to hurt him, especially considering her next few words where a threat against his remaining eye. So when she moved to place her hand against his left side he moved his left arm out of the way to accommodate the girl's intent, slowly moving it in front of him and not behind so that she could see his hands and wouldn't have any reason to think that he was trying anything.
With her next words it seemed like she had acted as such because she had thought he was serious and he was actually insane, so he kinda couldn't blame her for acting as she did even if he was inclined to... Never using that expression again, it seemed like a bad one. Though forming her partial again and stating that he could get a blade in his side was a little much... So was a death threat. Regardless Merric's only reaction was to glance down to the partial for a moment and return his gaze to the girl's eyes. He didn't want to be hurt but fighting it would probably just get him hurt, this girl was rather strong, so he just accepted it.
After a moment it became obvious that she was trying to calm herself down, with her deep breathing and small calming motions being rather telling signs. So as was appropriate Meric patiently waited, his gaze still locked with her own, and after what he thought was a decent amount of time he sighed and glanced to her right arm beside his head and her partial before speaking with a clam and slightly apologetic tone.
"Ah, well i suppose just saying something never fixed much in the first place... I apologize for giving you the impression that i was insane, i wasn't serious about the whole sanity thing and it was a poor choice of words."
He then slowly and calmly moved his left hand to rest on hers, not making any motions to remove it but trying to calm the girl down before this turned into a fight. Merric may have liked the idea of learning to fight a little better but he didn't want to learn because he'd pissed a girl off bad enough that she felt the need to beat him senseless.
"And if you don't forgive me may i ask how i can prove that i'm sorry, i would like to at least try to make it up to you for making you this angry... And could we not make it two bad eyes? I'm rather attached to my remaining eye..."

The visible eye follower her movements somewhat. Left fist lodging itself into the wall, she felt the solid structure make contact with her partial. Her weapon form. No matter what she was doing, thinking on her glorious weapon self helped to lighten things. Even if it was the cause of the whole change in her life all those years ago, she would never wish it away. A light smile tugged at the girl’s lips. Barely visible to someone that would have been able to pay close attention. She loved her weapon.
The distance between her hit and his head was decent. He definitely didn’t react negatively to this. So either… she should be pissed that he was so relaxed with everything or grateful that it seemed she chose good people to punch walls in front of. In little time, his eye was back on her. He had to look down slightly… he really was tall. Her gaze was directly focused on his face at this point, much as it had remained after she had looked him over. He really was calm. This was irritating, surprising, and a little bit… soothing.
Eyes glancing down as she went to place her right fist against his side, she noticed the arm movement. If it was possible, she tensed up further. He had moved. And it hadn’t been to get his arm farther from her… he was closer. Even though she had entered his space first, she didn’t like to give herself even less of a chance to react. This arm of his in closer proximity… made her nervous. But she couldn’t deal with it right then, she had a message to get across. Her anger required it.
The silence.
It was tearing at her. It was like waiting for impending doom. Anger swirling around inside her head while she attempted to fight it back. This boy just staring down at her with his calmness… She wasn’t sure what to do. Who said nothing after that? She had just threatened him. She was a flame of burning fury, and he just…. stood there? Was he planning something?
Her anger was quickly reverting into doubt. Maybe she shouldn’t have come off so strongly. Maybe she came close too quickly. Maybe she misjudged this new child…
And then he moved. His gaze to one hand, then the next, he rested his eye on her again. A sigh came from him then he spoke. Irene… was surprised. And maybe a little irritated.
”I’m not totally fucking stupid. Lord Death wouldn’t have let you anywhere near here if you were mad.”
The girl snapped back right away, instantly regretting it but not having had enough of… anything to hold herself back. He didn’t seem phased by anything she did. Snapping, punching, anger…. None of it really did anything to this kid. Calm… apologetic. Heck, maybe he was Canadian. That was their stereotype, right?
The next movement was unexpected. It was slow, so she didn’t take it as a threat, but it had caught her eye and she watched Merric slowly place his hand over hers. The one on his side. The soft light was once again shaded somewhat by the boy’s clothing, her partial form vanishing but her fist remaining tight. Heat. Like fire. Her cheeks were burning light red and she felt like her skin had just gone up in flames. Twice in a short period of time she had felt this sensation, after not having felt this way in a year or more. First Nolan and his damn corset comment, now… this.
It wasn’t until this moment that Irene realized how close to Merric she really was. In order to get her fist into the wall behind the tall man, she had to be pretty darn close. Then her fist had been snuggly against his side. Now… she felt his warm skin against hers. A small touch, but… he wasn’t attacking. This wasn’t offensive or meant for harm in any way. Somehow, from their close proximity, it had gone from full out fury mixed with calm, to doubt and reassurance.
She didn’t know what to make of that.
Pulling her left hand away from the wall, it dropped to her side and her left shoulder angled away from the man. Her right hand… she hesitated moving it. Was she supposed to move it? Was she supposed to take it? How was she supposed to react to him?
By now she had heard his apology. She had filed it away in her mind, knowing that it had been spoken but also knowing she was going batshit crazy and that he had nothing to be sorry for. Really, it had all started because she didn’t want judgemental eyes on her training. The words that more hung with her were remaining eye. Remaining. Meaning… the other was gone? Did he mean completely gone? Or just the vision.
”Its gone?”
The words escaped her before she really realized she had spoken. They sounded hesitant and quiet. A large change from the intensity of earlier. She wasn’t sure what to make of him. How to react to his lack of reaction.
Her face still lightly painted with the color of red, she slowly shifted her gaze to his again. She saw an eye and a patch. An honest face, though… apologetic. For a moment, she wanted to reach towards the boy. Her left hand twitched slightly, but she decided against it. No more of this touching nonsense. Even if he had lost an eye.
And with that new resolution, she pulled back at her right hand. Taking a step back away from him with her right foot, her gaze never left his face. Mentally, she tried to recall what he had said to her earlier.. Before.. she had jumped him. Her right hand hovering over her left elbow, she hesitated once again before rubbing lightly at her left arm. Unsure. Less confident. Hesitant. The red was leaving her face, as was the tenseness from her body.
”If you’ll forgive my bad manners my name is Irene.”
She hesitated again, other words on the tip of her tongue but she wasn’t sure whether to say them or not. Her eyes shifting to the floor, she took her eyes off the male. Guilty maybe?
”It’s nice to meet you…
The barely audible words crumbled out.

The girls first words didn't phase Merric much, if anything she sounded... Less angry now, leaning more towards being a bit irritated or surprised. She was right anyway, if he where insane he wouldn't have gotten within the city limits. Not that it even mattered, he wasn't and she seemed to be more lashing out cause she was angry than actually mad at him now. Which was good.
Though her reaction to him placing his hand over hers was unexpected. He'd thought that not showing any aggressive intent would help but when her partial vanished Merric was a bit surprised, pleasantly so but still... And he was no less surprised when her heartbeat increased. She even portrayed some slight changes in her body language, still a bit tense but not angry anymore... More like she was confused or embarrassed. Merric could almost picture the blush on her face and the thought of it softened his expression a bit further and he offered the girl a small smile as well as lightly squeezing her hand in thanks, he was a bit relieved that she wasn't quite so mad anymore.
Though as she was coming to grips with their proximity so was Merric, she was pretty close... He could practically hear her breathing and it wasn't to hard to hear her heartbeat as it was... She didn't really seem angry anymore instead she seemed almost calm and with her being so close even Merric was a little embarrassed though he handled it differently, only blushing slightly and smirking at the girl and trying to pass off his own embarrassment as amusement... Probably did a crap job though as he glanced nervously away, using the excuse of tracking her arm with his 'good' eye to cover up his embarrassment and missing her hesitation as he was distracted by his own thoughts.
Though her shy question gave him something else to focus on and he refocused his attention on her face, locking his gaze with hers as she brought hers back to his, to smile at the girl and nod slightly while stating in a lighthearted tone. "Yeahhhhh, just an empty socket now. Gotta try to keep things out of it so nothing irritates it nowadays."
After a moment the girl pulled back her hand and took a step away Merric did nothing to stop her, only giving her hand a light squeeze before letting go easily... He'd honestly expected to get a bit more hurt than he was so he was a bit thankful that he was still standing as of now..... Though her change in stature yet again was interesting, she wasn't tense anymore but she seemed a bit unsure now. But unsure of what?
When she spoke of her 'bad manners' Merric slightly raised an eyebrow at the girl, as far as he was concerned she had nothing to apologize for though she had a nice name, Irene... Very pretty. Anyway as he was about to state so she looked to the ground in something approaching guilt?... And said that it was nice to meet him..... Yeah no, that isn't right. As she finished saying that it was nice to meet him he sighed and brought his hand up to her chin to bring her gaze back up to his before smiling reassuringly at the girl and calmly saying. "There's nothing to forgive, its been a pleasure meeting you too Irene..." And after holding her gaze with his own for a few moments in an attempt to reassure the girl he dropped his hand back to his side and asked in a more casual tone while his smile turned to a bit of a grin. "Sooooo question, since your obviously a weapon too what kind of weapon are ya Irene? I'm curious what kind of partial i was just ever so close to being stabbed with. Joking of course but seriously, what kind of weapon do i have the luck in meeting today?"

The blush had only intensified as she felt his hand squeeze lightly at hers. She didn’t know what to make of this all.. It wasn’t offensive or aggressive, she realized that. Especially with her focus still on his face. He seemed to have softened more, if that was even possible. It was a smile that he held, but it was almost like he was trying to coax a smile out of her as well.
When she began moving away from him, she noticed hints of embarrassment on his features as well. Or maybe… he was embarrassed because she was… She was such a problem. His face didn’t turn near as red as hers. Irene still felt like her flesh was on fire. She could feel her heart pounding in her ears. She just needed to step away from this kid. Or distract herself… or something.
His words came in reply to her question about his eye. While nothing really hinted to her surprise other than her voice and her expression on her face, normally that would have been obvious enough. An empty socket. So that was it. It wasn’t temporary, this boy had something serious happen.
”That… sucks.”
She really couldn’t think of anything else to say. Well.. anything that would have been appropriate. While she would have liked to know how, she didn’t want to dig into his business so openly. Not right now. She wasn’t in her normal mind, she was fumbling about… this just wasn’t the time to try and play mind games. He had already tossed her over a few hurdles. And this allowed her to step back from him.
Finally. Some space. She knew she was the cause for the close encounter, but for once she couldn’t want anything more than to have some distance. Exhaling deeply, her body relaxed now that they weren’t touching anymore. She tried to settle her own heartbeat. Just calm down all around. Even if she did feel guilty for snapping at him, she wanted to try and get her mind back on track.
The bit of bitterness for her own actions was covered by her own uncertainty. What was she supposed to do now? She was apologizing? That was very unlike her… even if she had been mimicking his words from before… But she had been rough with the kid for no reason. And then the blushing… Flustering herself in her own mind, she lost a bit of concentration on the boy before her, it didn’t help that her gaze had fallen to the floor either.
The warm touch met her skin again. She could have sworn her heart almost stopped in that second. It was a mix of emotions. At first, surprise and/or fear of an oncoming attack. But then the realization that it was this same kid who hadn’t done anything to seem like he was attacking her. He was just… merely touching her again. The heat from his hand seemed to spread along her skin, lighting her face a shade of pink again, but not quite so badly as before.
Her first thought was combined with resistance against him moving her face at all. But, accompanied with the realization it was him, she let him shift her gaze upwards again. Her face meeting his, she found that same reassuring smile. What was with this guy? More confusion settling in over her previous emotions, she felt the heat on her face slowly dissipate as she attempted to figure him out. Even his voice was calm. The words were… surprising.
A pleasure meeting her?
She shifted her head back quickly as he dropped his hand. What? Pleasure? She had pretty much assaulted him? Only continuing to confuse her. Blinking twice, she could feel that she had begun to rub at her left arm again. Was she that nervous? Her eyes still settled on the male known as Merric, she tried to focus in on what he was saying, even while she was having trouble focusing.
And that brought it all back into play.
A grin sweeping easily across her face, the obvious pride on her face as well as her standing a little taller, her right hand moving from her left arm to her hip. Her weapon form. If anything could bring her back to reality, it would be that. Her weight shifting to her right foot, her left leg bent slightly and she had her foot pointing, similar to a ballerina but no weight on it, tapping the toe of her boot lightly against the ground. Accompanying this movement, she held her left fist out towards him.
”A polearm. I am a Demon Corseque.”
At the last word, the faint light that had flashed before simply did once again. But this time, instead of the strip of metal across her knuckles, there was a dark blade protruding from her fist. A dark metal across her knuckles, blade towards him. A light grin on the woman’s face, her posture remaining more upward. This was one thing she was sure of.
Keeping her hand up for a few moments to let him inspect it if he felt inclined, then she dropped her hand to her side again, the light overtaking the partial form and letting the flesh return to flesh.
”What about yourself? Weapon or meister, oh calm, one-eyed boy?”
