Name: Red or Excalibur
Other Characters: N/A

ExcaliburPersonality: FOOL! - Excalibur on pratically everything.
Very little can be understood from Excalibur's way to act. He seems to have a completely nonsensical personality, spouting nonsense sequitur, songs and tasks. He clearly hates being interrupted, and oftten he calls people FOOLS when they do such (or even when they answer to him OR they don't do anything at all) to put them down and assert his superiority. He even did it to animals walking around him.
Overall, as several characters pointed out, he seems to act to be quite senile, as he constantly forgets which day his legend started and does not seem to remember the day his birthday is, claiming that every day is his birthday. His backstory told in the 17th episode is also VERY odd and self-contradicting, with both historical and plot holes which might bug anyone hearing it.
His two main personality traits are, though, his vast ego (even bigger than Black*Star's), which goes so far to include one thousand of tasks for people to become his partner and his short tempter. He is in fact actually shown to get very easily nervous, due to his always constant insults to people and to his remarks if people wants to fight. He is also shown he can act quite violently, shown best when he used his cane to hit Hiro's .... weak point.
Despite this, it was implied several times that such a personality might be all an act. Indeed, he clearly speaks to both Shinigami and Asura, and the both of them acted rather respectfully towards him (even despite him calling them Baka several times). He has also shown to be rather close to Eibon in the anime, knowing his motivations and work. Lastly, during the final fight, he acted quite composed (even though he still retained his eccentricities) and even made some valid points during the fights. Even more oddly, he seemed to get along with Blair, who seemed to play along with his oddities and let the strange weapon caress her in her cat form.
One more thing to notice is the fact he seems occasionally rather desperate to look for a partner, going so far to lower the tasks to both Kid and Black Star and, in the manga, he was more than willing to help the group to free Kid without them having to do any task. Also, considering the possible implication he used to be one of the Eight Powerful Warriors, all his way of acting might be all an act, but very little is known. And he is not going to tell, especially to you, FOOL!
History:
You know how I am going to start the story, right? Well, yes, this way.....
THE LEGEND OF EXCALIBUR STARTED IN THE 12th CENTURY....
But not much is understood about what his legend REALLY is. WHen he speaks, he talks about very disconnected stories. According to him, he helped King Arthur defeating the Romans in Itality, grew up at first as a thug in a Grease-like story concept, was Sherlock Holmes' real brain (even though in the case of the murder he did not arrest the clearly guilty butler, but Watson) and that he had a luxurious meaningless life until he met a woman with whom he had a brief but intense love affair (which somehow concluded the war of the gangs of whom he used to belong to). He also claimed to have a family with three kid looking like him, but it's most likely a lie.
The most plausible story, though, has never been outright stated but implied, as it seems to be, from several hints, to be a Great Old One and a member of Lord Death's Eight Powerful Warriors, though nothing is known about his carreer or anything. In the manga, Eibon built the Index of his Book after him, though he made its nose point downward to counter Excalibur's upward nose and arrogant attitude.
How he ended in the cave is also VERY unknown, but it seems that he, like all the other good Great Old One alive, he decided to confine himself here. And since then he had been waiting for great partner. Again, here the story becomes very blurry, but legends seem to state he really was King Arthur's legendary sword. Despite his immense power, he had a very little number of partners due to his arrogant personality. It's implied that Sid and Stein too tried to pick up Excalibur but opted against it. Later, Kid and Black*Star did the same, but with the same results. Ox Ford attempted to write a report about him, but ended up being disgusted by him and opted to switch topic. Black*Star ended up making a report about the Holy Sword describing him with a single word: "FOOL!"
However, Hiro, a weak and weak-willed meister, successfully wielded Excalibur for a while because. while everyone finds Excalibur's traits extremely annoying, Hiro actually found them enjoyable and followed every 1000 rules (even taking notes during the 5 hour story-telling parties). However, he put Excalibur back after he couldn't stand his excessive sneezing.
While all of this goes on, the fairies dwelling in the cave celebrated his absence, such as growing flowers on the stone, cheering, feasting, drinking and so forth. They soon fled from disgust when they found him back.
Later, during the battle against Arachnophobia and Asura, Excalibur reached Shinbusen and claimed to be there only to observe. He observed first the fight against Lord Death and Kishin, being the only one not to be swayed by her power and not to be afraid of Asura and when Death got defeated, he made a rebuttal to the Kishin's insane theories. The debate did not last longer as Asura escaped to kill Arachne. During the final fight, he did nothing, saying that the only thing they could now do was to wait (and in the meanwhile, bring him some tea while he pets Blair).
Once Maka killed the Crazy Demon God, Excalibur had no reason to stay there and returned to his cave, still waiting for a Meister worth his awesome power....
Example:
For once, in the long history of Excalibur’s time at the Eternal Cave, it was very, very quiet. It was the kind of day that Excalibur would like nothing more than curl up with a cup of herbal tea and read a book. No, he would definitely have to drink a somewhat cold soda with precisely 2 chunks of ice. That’s perfect, he would need to curl up with a soda and watch a movie. Reminded of his days of his youth, he felt he needed to tell a story, and transformed into his anthromorphic form. Pointing his cane at a nearby fairy, he garnered her attention, to which there was a loud growl of what he believed to be happiness of garnering the attention of the great and holy sword Excalibur!
“Ah, you wish to hear the tales of my heroic deeds!” he said, to which he was only replied with a face that he had long assumed meant acceptance and unbridled joy. Turning his back, he leaned on his cane and began to think to himself of his past. He had been through much in his life. His legend DID begin in the 12th century, you know. “Although my heroic deeds are vast, there is one story that will always stay with me. It was a cold winter’s day when I met her. No, that’s not right. It was spring, because the cherry blossoms were beginning to bloom. Or were the leaves falling? Yes, so it must have been fall. Yes, it was a hot summer’s day when I first laid my wondrous eyes on her. She was beautiful, unequaled in kindness or gloriousness. It was fate that we would meet in that crowded subway, where I had asked her for the comic pages, where, as you know, I had became a hit as the comic book superhero “Excaliburman”. It was a best seller. But more to the point-.”
As he turned around to continue his story, he could tell that the fairy was trying to run away, and he somehow managed to get in front of her, pointing his cane at her, not allowing her to pass. “Fool!" he yelled, beginning to spin the cane, “Attendance to the five hour storytelling party is 100% mandatory, even if you are not my wielder. As I was saying, when we met eyes, we knew that there would be nothing that could stand in our way. We had both fallen in love, as all woman do with Excalibur, until one day she was diagnosed with horrible brain cancer. Distraught, I decided that I would cure cancer in order to save my beloved. And I did. Very efficiently.”
There was a small pause between that and his next words, for no discernable reason. He would like to think it was a dramatic pause, but it went on far too long. “And that brings me to the 69th task of the 1000 tasks that must be observed if one were to wield me, as you know well. ‘You must always complete Excalibur’s taxes on time and as efficienty as possible’”. The fairy was almost dying to get away by now, but that was of no interest to Excalibur. “Do not fret, winged friend. The five hour storytelling party has just begun. Which reminds me of another time…”
