It was high time that he got back into regular parkour runs. Dante had been slacking as of late, lingering madness from whatever the hell that bird thing was having dragged him down. He just hadn’t felt quite right in a while, but now the blonde was more the sufficiently rested. After Nate dragged him out of the dark, ice cream hell that he dug himself into, everything seemed slow to come back to him. The fall from the fire escape in front of that mysterious Irene girl had not been one of Dante’s shining moments, but he was determined to fix that. And the forest seemed just the right place for it! Dante had started out learning by climbing trees and upgraded to buildings as he got better. The Sicilian didn’t quite trust his footing on rooftops at the moment, so taking a break seemed like the logical thing to do. Besides, the sun was out. Dante was never going to let a chance to feel the sunlight on his skin go to waste. Having escaped the house that morning, it hadn’t taken Dante too long to zip over to the forest. The smell of bark and grass hit him about a block away, and once he stood on the outskirts, it only lured him in further. Keeping a quick pace, Dante started in along one of the less traveled dirt paths with a determined looking grin on his face. Golden eyes surveyed his surroundings, looking for a good spot to start. Thin branches broke, large ones could be trouble to keep a grip on. Pausing just past a trail marker, Dante backpedaled and leaned backwards. The tree that had caught his eye wasn’t terribly tall and looked to be fairly sturdy. Giving himself a nod for good judgment, he left the trail and got a running start towards it. Foliage blurred past him in his peripheral vision. Dante waited until he was within a few feet before he jumped, arms extended up to the first branch within reach. He caught it with ease and hauled himself up, crouching as not to bonk his head on the boughs above and managing his balance fairly enough, though he did wobble at first. Letting a bit of cockiness turn his smile into a slight smirk, Dante glanced ahead to see where he could jump. “So far, so good,” he muttered to himself, “let’s see if we can keep it up.” The blonde crept along the branch until he felt it start to bend. Not fancying a fall, Dante set his gaze on the next tree over and leaped through the air. He barely made the landing, pitching forward and grabbing onto another branch above him to keep steady. The blonde held his breath until he stopped moving before letting it out in a rush. Okay, so many he needed to slow down a little. A bit reluctantly, Dante let his fingers slip from their safety hold and gradually got back into a crouch, letting himself get his balance back. He needed to be smart about this. Falling didn’t particularly scare him since he seemed to have a cat’s luck when it came to not getting hurt after even after dropping several stories. His eyes landed on his next destination. The tree was bigger than the others by quite a bit, and the branch in question would have more than enough room for both feet. It also wasn’t coated in any moss which would’ve been a slipping hazard. Taking a deep breath, Dante rose just a bit, bending his knees very slightly before lunging forward. The minute air was under him, Dante knew he wasn’t going to make it. Panicking in a hurry, he latched onto the first branch he saw sailing over him in order to swing himself forward. It would’ve worked flawlessly had it not been too thin and wobbled. Dante heard a creak and then a snap, and then his feet hitting their intended target. Unfortunately, momentum was not on his side. The blonde grasped at nothing in particular, one hand still holding the broken branch and the other only managed to catch a handful of leaves. Ah yes, leaves, exactly what he wanted right now. Dante swayed backwards, hit the back of his knee on another branch on his way down, and then abruptly stopped. The blonde groaned, blinking slowly and wondering why he couldn’t see for a minute before he realized it was because his shirt had fallen over his face. Sighing heavily, he pushed it back where it was supposed to be and saw nothing but bark before the fabric fell again and bunched around his chest. Oh no. Craning his neck forward, Dante saw his right foot caught tightly between two thicker branches. Swallowing hard, he turned as little as possible in case he fell. A relieved sound left him when he saw he wasn’t more than six feet from the ground, thankfully. Unfortunately, he was also facing towards the tree rather than away. There wasn’t room for him to just sit up and free himself. Dante’s brows knit together and he covered his face for a good long moment, breathing deeply o try and calm himself before letting his arms hang. “Well,” he said to none other than himself, “you’ve really outdone yourself this time, haven’t you Dante?” Twisting and turning got him nothing but an uncomfortable pull around his ankle which made him stop dead. Apparently the potential for injury was still there. Dante’s mouth formed a thin line, clearly displeased with himself, before the look faded into one of helplessness. Looking around at the upside-down world, his chances of escape now depended on luck. “Hello”, he called, “Is anyone there? I’m stuck!”

When Nolan first moved to Death City, he had originally gotten the idea that there was nothing but desert surrounding the city and its inhabitants. Being used to the lively Canadian forests back home, he was completely out of his element; or that’s what he had thought at first. He was overjoyed to discover the other day that there was actually a thick forest nearby; not long after learning this new bit of information he had scheduled a slot of time in the morning to go exploring the woods. Today he found himself trekking through a less-visited area of the forest, filling his lungs with the energetic smell of trees and wildlife.
One of Nolan’s favorite pastimes had always been nature watching. Simply finding a secluded area in the forest to sit down in and observe the world at work around him. He found it very peaceful and relaxing to do, and often fascinating as well. Unfortunately he had also developed a bit of a habit of trying to befriend the wild animals, more often than not resulting in injury or failure. Sometimes Nolan wasn’t the brightest bulb in the ceiling, but he still managed somehow. Today he was wearing his typical logger’s outfit: brown boots and suspenders, dark blue jeans, and a red plaid button-up shirt with the sleeves rolled up past his elbows. Around his neck a pair of black binoculars was hanging just in case he happened to spot a bird’s nest.
Eventually finding an area suitable to his liking, the tall blonde sat on the ground with a huff, crossing his legs comfortably in front of him and leaning his back against the base of a tree trunk. Nolan dragged his hand through the fallen leaves around him before pulling one of the leaves up to hold in front of his face. “Hm, an oak,” He mumbled, letting the leaf fall back to the forest floor. Oak trees were rather good for climbing, so maybe in a little bit he’d give it a shot. Looking upwards into the canopy he could tell that it was an exceptionally large oak tree; he also noticed how the sunlight filtered down from the canopy, warming his skin. Nolan grinned, throwing his arms behind his head and sighing in contentment. A perfect start to what was going to be a great day...
Before he knew what was happening, Nolan was jolted awake, blinking around sleepily at the trees and plants. He must’ve dozed off; he had found a little groove at the base of the oak tree that was almost as if it were made for a morning nap, and the warm sun didn’t help keep him awake, either. But what had woken him? Yawning, Nolan managed to get himself to stand up and stretch to take a brief look around. Who knows, maybe an animal was nearby.
Stepping around the large tree base, Nolan was caught off-guard by the sight before him. In fact, he rubbed his eyes to make sure he wasn’t still asleep and dreaming. He has had dreams before where it had been raining men, but never this literally. A few feet in front of him and about six feet off the ground was a young blonde man, hanging upside-down from the oak tree by his right ankle. His shirt had fallen so that it was bunching up around the guy’s chest, exposing his belly and back. Yeah, Nolan was still not convinced that this wasn’t a dream, and yet he found himself compelled to assist the boy.
“Whoa, hey there. Don’t move, I’ve got you…” Being five-foot-eleven, Nolan was easily able reach up with his long arms to firmly grab the boy’s chest. “I’m going to lift you up for a moment. When I do, wiggle your foot loose from the branches, alright love?” Not waiting for a reply, Nolan slowly pushed up against the guy’s weight, his muscles flexing from the effort. “Ngh! Okay, now wiggle!” He grunted, holding the other boy steady as he waited for him to free himself.

Dante had no doubt he looked the picture of idiocy, dangling helplessly. Hmmm…maybe if I just… The blonde swung slightly, seeing if maybe he could get his hands to the bark of the tree’s trunk and push himself up enough to free himself. But that was a bust, his fingertips coming nowhere close to their intended goal. Dante swung back with a huff, let his arms hang on either side of his head, the tight expression he wore clearly depicted exactly how unimpressed he was with the situation. Well, this was quite the pickle. Gazing up at the sun filtering through the leaves, at least it was still early. Maybe his luck would change and someone would find him, preferably before dark.
He heard movement from the other side of the tree and craned his neck to try and see. Dante didn’t think there were any animals in the forest that were particular dangerous. The largest thing he could think of that maybe lived in amongst the underbrush were raccoons, not that he even wanted to see one of those. They could be nasty little things, or so he’d heard. Swallowing hard, Dante held his hands awkwardly around his face just in case there was something with claws coming for him.
Dante rarely felt the inclination to thank God, but in this case he would make an exception. A young man, a tall and very strong looking young man from what he could see, happened around from the other side of the tree. The blonde couldn’t remember ever being so delighted to see another human being in his entire life. Seeing the stranger rub his eyes, Dante shrugged as best he could while upside-down and waved his arms a bit for added dramatic effect, “No, no, your eyes do not deceive you. I really did manage to screw up this badly this early in the morning.”
By the time he finished speaking, the other blonde was already moving towards him. Even better! The universe was definitely being kind at last. Sure took it long enough! Dante listened to his instructions and then nodded a better grin forming as the strong character wasted no time. The Sicilian felt strong arms tighten around his chest to lift him up. Dante braced his hands against the young man’s forearms and wiggled his leg. To the right was no good, but to the left was just right. He felt the pressure around his ankle let up and his foot dislodge from the joint in the branch where it’s been caught, a few leaves floating down around the in the process.
“I got it!” Not wanting to kick his timely rescuer in the head, Dante kept his legs straight in the air above him. An airy laugh left him, clearly elated that he was free and not doomed to dangle in the hair for who knows how long.

Now very much awake, Nolan chuckled lightheartedly. They must’ve made quite the picture, what with Nolan holding the other boy in the air and the guy being completely upside down with his legs straight up above them. Actually…Nolan was beginning to lose his balance. Balancing was never one of his strong points. Responding with the first solution that came to mind, he quickly shifted his hold on the guy so that he slid-fell into Nolan’s arms like it was a cradle. Stumbling a bit, he then looked down at the stranger in his arms, grinning and letting loose a booming laugh. He could now see that the boy wasn’t much shorter than Nolan was, so it was rather awkward to hold him like he currently was. It seemed like the guy was being equally lighthearted about the whole situation, though. “HAHAHA! Well now, I wasn’t aware of there being monkey-people around these parts!” He joked, eyes twinkling like they usually did whenever he was either excited or amused. Which was often.
A few seconds later and he had helped the young man down to finally stand on the ground once again. Oh jeez, he almost saw eye-to-eye with him; that was what Nolan first noticed about the guy. He wasn’t as thickly built as Nolan was, though, so that distinguished their two different body types. And then Nolan actually focused on this guy’s eye color. They were gold? He couldn’t remember the last time that he’s seen honey-colored eyes, if he ever has before. He was blonde, like Nolan, but his hair was a yellower color and it wasn't quite as long as Nolan's.
But what was really perking Nolan's interest was the reason why the Canadian had stumbled upon the other guy in such a perplexing position. Putting his hands on his hips, Nolan tilted his head curiously. “So, I'm a bit curious to know how you managed to get yourself like that. Tree climbing mishap, eh?”

He was free! Dante would be lying if he didn’t panic a bit when he felt his rescuer stumble, but that quickly vanished into a feeling of overwhelming relief once again. The young man shifted him smoothly into his arms. Now that he wasn’t upside-down, Dante noticed that he actually much taller than himself. Perhaps it was due to how muscular he was that had made him seem more looming when he’d originally arrived. Or the fact that he had been hanging from a tree. Yeah, it was probably that last part.
Now that he wasn’t in an inherently compromising position, Dante grinned fully, laughing lightly along with the stranger’s booming laugh. Probably one of the more awkward moments in his life but hey, it had turned out for the better. Dante adopted an almost thoughtful expression gesturing vaguely to the boughs above. “Yeah, there’s a few of us running around,” was the lighthearted jest he made to go along with the other’s humor. He was starting to think he couldn’t have been helped by a better person. Minimal skepticism and he wasn’t outright taunting him. This was turning out wonderfully.
All joking aside, Dante was set back on his feet and he automatically went through his own personal checklist. First thing’s first, he could stand. Next he tilted his head side to side, checked over his arms, and twisted a bit. Nope, everything seemed in its proper place! Sighing once again with relief, Dante turned his attention back to the one who rescued him. Now that he was standing, their height really was similar. It felt odd to be almost as tall as someone so strong. Dante was far from weak, but this guy look like he could bench press the oak tree he’d fallen out of.
Hearing the inquiry and noting the glance, Dante gave a bit of a nervous laugh. One of his hands dove into his pocket and the other went to rub the back of his neck, the Sicilian appearing clearly bashful of his mistake. “Yeah, that’s about right,” he confirmed, “I tried to jump from another tree and land on that branch just there.” He looked up, squinting when a bit of sun struck his eyes and pointed to the target he’d had in mind. It was a thicker branch maybe twenty feet up. Now that Dante saw it, he really wasn’t sure how he gotten hurt. Letting his hand fall back down, he shrugged it off, “I misjudged the difference and fell a ways and wound up getting stuck. Now that I see how high I was, I’m glad I didn’t break my ankle getting my foot caught.”
A bit of a cringe worked its way into Dante’s voice. He’d broken his ankle before. It wasn’t fun. Weeks of not being able to run and sticking to crutches were not something he wanted to relive ever. Even so, he tried to keep conversation light, shifting his gaze to other blonde present and giving him a playful smile. “You should’ve seen the fall I took last week,” he started, “two stories, nothing underneath me to grab on to, landed flat on my back.” Dante held his arms out to the side, “Barely a scratch on me.”
As he said that, though, he shifted his weight for the first time since standing. On two feet he was fine, but switching to leaning more on his right leg… A familiar sting shot through his knee and he wobbled, catching himself quickly but obviously wincing. “Merda!” The curse was hushed and meant to be, putting his weight back on his left foot while he bent to examine his left leg. “On second thought, maybe I hit that branch harder than I thought on the way down,” he wondered quietly. His tone didn’t indicate he was all that worried. It wouldn’t be the first time he had to limp home, not by a long shot. Trying to keep the other young man from worrying, he locked eyes with him again and managed a lopsided grin.

Nolan had beamed down at the boy in his arms when he had gone along with his joke. Few people have actually enjoyed his jokes, let alone participated in them, ever since he arrived in Death City, so he was ecstatic at the moment. He was also already beginning to take a liking to this young man, despite them not even being on a first-name basis.
The bashful gesture made by the other blonde was endearing, and Nolan listened intently as the boy explained how he had been jumping between the trees and had landed on a certain branch that made him fall and get stuck. “Yeah, me too, that would’ve been pretty nasty,” Nolan commented, hooking his thumbs behind his suspenders complacently, “Lucky you weren’t hurt, eh?” He noticed the cringe and then frowned with brief concern, but his expression soon returned to a relaxed smile that met the other boy’s more playful one.
“Two stories?!” Nolan responded with widening eyes. Holy crap, this guy was insane. Regardless, Nolan chuckled with mirth. “Maudit, you must be a superhero or somethi-” He was cut off by the guy’s hushed curse—a bit too soft for Nolan to distinguish but loud enough to hear—and pained wince. His lopsided grin did nothing to calm Nolan’s nurturing nature, and he quickly approached the crouching boy’s side. “Oh, goodness. Let’s take a look at it…” Nolan guided the boy to sit down on his behind in order to relieve pressure from his ankle, and then scooted over so he could gingerly grasp his injured ankle. Feeling around a bit and keeping his eyes trained on the young man’s face to see his reactions, Nolan then sighed, his eyes looking downward as if he were to be the bearer of bad news. “Oh dear, this is no good…” His face then took on a dark, menacing expression, and he partial transformed his right hand into his weapon's hatchet head. “We’ll need to amputate ASAP.”
A few seconds later and Nolan snorted, his evil expressing cracking as he erupted in yet another fit of laughter and fell onto his back. “BWAHAHAHA!! Oh my, I’m sorry, I couldn’t resist…” After returning his hand to normal Nolan wiped a giddy tear from his eye. “Haha, you’ll be fine, love. You twisted your ankle so it’s probably just bruised, but at worst it’s sprained.” Scooting over to sit directly next to the boy, Nolan bumped shoulders with him playfully. “I was planning to do some nature watching, which doesn’t really require any walking around. Wanna join me? Or if not I can help ya back to your place.”

Apparently he wasn’t going to get away with not worrying his rescuer. Catching the bit of French the other spoke before his sentence cut off, Dante wondered for a moment where he was from. Dante waved one of his hands, “I’m sure it’s nothing serious.” But the other blonde was having none of it. Sighing, a bit of a pout formed on Dante’s face as he let the other slowly sit him down on the grass and fallen leaves. People fussing over him had never been something he had gotten used to, but there wasn’t exactly much he could do about it.
At least the stranger was gentle with him. Given his size, Dante was surprised by how tenderly he handled his injured ankle. He watched him closely, closing one eye and flinching a bit when he pressed at all around where the joint connected and led to his heel. Dante may have guessed. It would be his right and it would of course be the one that had broken before. He knew that wasn’t the case though, otherwise he would be in a whole other world of hurt. Dante let his head lull to one side and lean on his shoulder, “Okay so it kind of hurts, but this isn’t the first time I’ve had to limp home.”
The look from the stranger caught him off guard though. Blinking, Dante tried to remain passive. Was it worse than he’d thought? Did he tear something? Dante wasn’t a doctor, but he was sure he wasn’t too injured, right? Seeing his expression change again to a darker one had Dante leaning back. “W-what?” The partial transformation caught Dante off-guard enough that his shoulders jumped, gold eyes going wide at the other young man’s words. “H-hey now, wait a-“
And he was laughing. It took Dante a minute to process before a sigh left him and he fell back against the ground. Covering his face, a few rather nervous laughs of his own left him quietly. “Madre di Dio, you had me going,” he wheezed eventually, sitting up slowly to lean back on his forearms. An easy smile returned to his face soon enough, the Sicilian nodding along to the clarification given by the other young man. “I thought as much. I’m glad it didn’t break again.”
As the other blonde bumped shoulders sitting beside him, Dante chuckled a bit and bumped him back gently, smile turning into more of a grin. Hearing the proposition, Dante looked up at the sky for a moment before turning golden eyes back on the one next to him, “I wouldn’t mind staying out a while longer, actually. I’d be happy to join you, let my ankle rest a bit and see if that helps. Besides,” he paused to lean more on his left and held his right arm straight before him, activating his own partial form of the three foot Rapier blade from the wrist down, “it’s always nice to run into fellow Weapons.” Dante grinned and gave the gentle giant a wink before deactivating his partial and setting his arm down again.

As he was guiding the young man to sit down, Nolan couldn’t help but find the boy’s sigh and subsequent pout adorable. In fact, a lot about this guy was cute. Although it felt admittedly a bit strange calling someone so close in height to himself cute. He was a handsome young man; those golden eyes of his still caught Nolan off guard whenever the two of them locked eyes.
…Okay, so he might appear handsome but his personality was most definitely adorable. He had fallen hook, line and sinker for Nolan’s little prank; the look on his face had been priceless. Sooo worth it. And what was that language, Spanish? No…Italian. It was a sultry language that Nolan always found intriguing to listen to, and he currently found himself wanting to hear the boy speak more Italian as he returned Nolan’s little shoulder-bump.
And there were those honey-colored eyes again. Jesus, they were gorgeous. Better yet, the guy agreed to stay and nature watch with him, which only made Nolan giddier. Beaming over at him, Nolan’s own chocolate-hued eyes widened at the partial transformation before him. “Whoa! You’re turning out to be one incredible monkey-man, you know?” Subtly complimenting the guy couldn’t hurt, right?
Just then, Nolan’s bright expression faded as his eyes took on a more distant gaze. “Wait a second…” He muttered, holding a finger in front of his lips and then gesturing his head toward what he was currently looking at. Across from where they were currently sitting, a small clearing had been illuminated by the sun’s angle as if there was a spotlight shining down from the tree canopy. In the center of the area, a couple of squirrels chased each other around in circles, then paused to soak up the sun, and then repeated their playful antics. Nolan’s attentive expression melted and became warm, his eyelids drooping with contentment. After a few silent seconds void of anything but the squeaking of the rodents and the slight breeze through the tree branches, Nolan whispered to the young man close beside him. “Have you ever wondered what it’s like? I mean, to be an animal like those squirrels.” He tilted his head to the side a bit as the breeze blew down through the area, a few strands of his hair waving across his forehead. “It’s probably so simple; not a care in the world besides simply living.”

Dante shrugged at the other’s comment on seeing his Weapon form. “I try.” The look on the young man’s face was completely worth it. The blonde couldn’t remember the last time he had seen someone so utterly amazed by him. If memory served, Tori’s reaction when they’d first partnered had even been more subdued, but then again she was British. She had an image to maintain, prim and proper, that sort of thing.
Watching the gentle giant’s expression change, Dante kept himself silent and followed the other’s gaze as he nodded towards something. It took him a moment of scanning the area to see what he’d been motioning to. Dante’s gaze landed on the squirrels and a small half-grin graced his features. He was so used to just seeing them in usual places around the neighborhood every now and then that it was almost strange seeing them out in the woods where they were more at home. Strange, but also a bit refreshing.
Dante hadn’t felt so peaceful since…well, probably not since he last slept. Given how large his family was, how intense Tori could be at any given moment, and that Shibusen housed far from anything normal, he rarely had a chance to sit so still and silent. It was nice. Sighing very softly, Dante shut his eyes for a moment and leaned his head back against his shoulders, enjoying the feeling of the filtered sunlight hitting his skin through the gaps in the leaves and branches above.
Hearing the young man beside him whisper, Dante cracked one eye open to glance at him. An interesting question to be sure. The blonde couldn’t remember ever having done so. Sitting up a bit and opening both eyes, Dante thought for a moment before answering, mimicking the other’s hushed tone. “Not that I can remember,” he admitted, “but it sure must be nice, not having so many things to worry about.”
Worry, now there was a word Dante was familiar with. At any given point in time there was something he was likely concerned about whether it was his sisters, his Meister, or his upcoming passage into the One star class. For now, though, he tried not to let any of those things cloud his mind. A thought did cross it, though. The blonde bit the inside of his lip to prevent more of an amused grin from taking over, not to mention snickering of any sort would likely startle the small rodents just beyond. Still keeping his voice down, Dante tilted his head to look at the other blonde present, “I never did say thank you for helping me earlier, so…thank you. Who knows how long I’d have been hanging there if you hadn’t shown up.”
He made to turn his attention back to the clearing but then remembered something else. Unable to not grin, he lightly nudged the other with his elbow. “Oh, and my name’s Dante by the way. Dante Giovanni.”

No? Well, that’s what made Nolan a little different from other people. He often took the time to think about the more simple things in life. It was cleansing for the mind and soul to get away from the usual daily worries and instead think about something less complicated for once. At least this guy agreed with what Nolan had said, even though he admitted to not having thought about something like that before.
Nolan turned his head to return the other boy’s gaze, a gentle smile on his lips. He noted that the young man seemed to be biting his lower lip; he must’ve been refraining from grinning or giggling or both. What was going through the young man’s mind was a mystery to him, but also intriguing. Nolan raised a curious eyebrow, his voice taking on a flirtatious and humorous lilt; let’s see if he couldn’t get another funny reaction out of the guy. “You’re quite welcome, love.” In response to Dante’s introduction and playful nudge, the Canadian man brought his hand up to flick lightly at the other blonde’s nose. “I couldn’t just leave a damsel in distress hanging like that, eh? And I’m Nolan Anderson…”
A light pink blush suddenly dusted his cheeks, bringing out the freckles across his cheekbones and the bridge of his nose. Up until now, Nolan had pretty much ignored the fact that the two of them were pressed up against each other sitting side by side as they were. Dante was being lovely company and his body was so warm; Nolan must’ve been so comfortable in this position that he hadn’t even given it a second thought. “…I’m glad to have met you, Dante.” He concluded his sentence, flashing a small grin before turning his attention back to the forest around them.
Several seconds later and Nolan caught himself staring at nothing in particular, instead entertaining a few thoughts that had crossed his mind. The first was that he was genuinely surprised at the number of students at Shibusen he found himself attracted to; a good personality was a major turn on for Nolan, and the majority of the students he has met so far have been wonderful people. Secondly, he wondered why he hadn’t formed an actual crush on anyone yet. Back home, if Nolan came across someone he liked it was almost like forming an immediate crush; he never was one to beat around the bush with things. But as of late he has felt overwhelmed by how haywire his hormones seemed to be going. It was embarrassing, feeling like he couldn’t control his desires. Maybe the Nevada heat was getting to his head, or maybe he was just going through another growth spurt or something. Sighing, Nolan ran an exasperated hand through his hair.

That tone was not what Dante expected as a response. A bit of color tinted his cheeks and his eyes went a bit wide, until the other flicked his nose. That brought him out of it, but even so his mind was now racing a mile a minute. Two guys flirting with him in the same week. New to be sure, but it wasn’t like he could blame them. Dante knew for a fact he was attractive but even with all of his pretty words and usual flair to flirting, he grew entirely bashful and nervous whenever he was on the receiving end.
Managing to lightly laugh at who he now knew as Nolan’s damsel remark, Dante found his eyes darting away to their surroundings before managing to keep eye contact with great difficulty. At least the other blonde wasn’t being quite as forward as Conor had been. Then the stutter would’ve shown up, but Dante for once managed to save himself. Managing a grin, the Sicilian genes kicked in something fierce. He sat up a put, pressing one hand over his heart and laying the back of the other against his forehead, closing his eye dramatically. “Ah yes, my knight in shining armor! Who knows what would’ve become of me had you not come along?”
His tone was entirely playful, if not severely theatrical. Holding the pose for another second, Dante opened his eyes again and turned his attention back to Nolan, grinning gleefully and moving to lean back on his forearms like he had been. To be fair the damsel comment really hadn’t been far off, but the Halloween he spent as Diana was not something he felt needed to be made a topic of conversation. He didn’t need the further embarrassment.
Hearing the other’s words, golden eyes shifted to Nolan’s face and noted the vague blush. Had he said something? Dante didn’t recall such. Even so, he kept a warmer smile on his features. “Likewise,” he replied a bit softly.
The blonde returned to letting his head fall back against his shoulders again, though this time he let his eyes slide shut. Lovely days apparently met to meeting lovely new acquaintances, not that Dante was complaining in the slightest. He offhandedly was already hoping this wouldn’t be his first encounter with Nolan. He was nice, and playful in a way that wasn’t unkind. In a way he reminded Dante of Nate, but that could also just be a size thing, granted Nolan was nowhere near as tall as the usually spiky haired punk. Dante still couldn’t believe he was almost as tall as the far more built young man next to him.
Noting the sigh, Dante cracked an eye open and caught the last of Nolan’s actions. Tilting his head a bit, both golden eyes opened to land on the other, a touch of concern writing itself on Dante’s features as he sat up a bit more. “Something wrong?”

He had managed to get a small reaction out of Dante, involving an adorable blush and widening honey-colored eyes. Nolan had frowned a little although maintaining his smile. Maybe he wasn’t being forward enough to evoke a stronger reaction? ...Meh, he considered it for a moment, but eventually decided against trying something else. Nolan couldn’t quite tell yet if Dante would react positively to any actual advances; he didn’t want to cross any lines, especially since they barely knew each other. Nolan wasn’t a douche and usually adjusted his behaviors to the needs of those around him.
He was glad that Dante actually decided to grin and play along with the “damsel in distress” joke. The two of them seemed to have an interesting humor dynamic already, one that Nolan definitely appreciated. In fact, he was beginning to realize how good his luck has been, what with stumbling across a guy like Dante in the woods of all places. He chuckled, watching the Italian boy lie back in a more comfortable position. He wanted to learn more about this mysteriously intriguing monkey-man., which was ironic considering that he had come out here to go nature-watching, not people-watching.
His blush only deepened when the other blonde returned his kind words with a warm smile. His words had been soft and heartfelt…it made Nolan think of how nice it was to be making friends this easily at Shibusen. Well…Irene wasn’t exactly what he would call easy…but besides that he has had a relatively smooth ride so far. The only issue was him needing to stop being such a hornball. Being used to an area of Canada that wasn’t extremely diverse, Nolan was rather overwhelmed by the many different kinds of people he was seeing around Death City and the school. Everything seemed exotic and enticing to him…including the people.
Upon hearing Dante’s inquiry, Nolan’s chocolate eyes meet golden ones once again. He read mild concern on the boy’s face, which immediately had Nolan waving his hands dismissively in front of his face. “Nah, it’s nothing. Don’t worry ‘bout me.” Nolan was used to comforting and giving advice to others. Being on the other end of this kind of thing was highly uncomfortable for him, so in attempts to be dismissive he smiled at the young man beside him and put on a more relaxed demeanor.

Dante didn’t buy Nolan’s dismissal, but he made sure not to let it show. Merely quirking an eyebrow, the blonde considered what exactly he should say. Nolan seemed nice after all, but he had only just met him. While Dante was more than willing to help anyone, not everyone was so open to people that had been strangers only moments ago. Nodding slowly, Dante shifted to fold his arms behind his head and sank back down against the grass. “Alright,” he replied gently, “if you say so.”
Let sleeping dogs lie, and all that. The closest thing that Dante could assume would be that Nolan wasn’t as keen as tagging around with a tree-jumping idiot with a sprained ankle as he made out to be. But…that didn’t seem to be that case. It didn’t make any sense. He has such an honest demeanor and odd sense of peace about him, Dante found it hard that he would lie about something so simple to someone he just met. What’s more, if that was the case, Nolan could have just left after he’d rescued him.
Finally letting it slip from his mind, Dante opted to tune out any worrying over Nolan unless the other said something about it, or if he suddenly appeared more distressed. At the moment he didn’t seem to be, so the blonde allowed his mind to wander. All of the sun filtering down on them was making his eyes heavy, granted it was more out of relaxation than a need for sleep. Blinking slowly and squinting a bit when a ray of sunlight hit him right in the eyes, Dante remembered another thing that had been bouncing around in the back of his mind earlier.
Not quite sitting upright, Dante turned and propped an elbow up on the ground, resting his chin in the palm of his hand. “By the way, is it safe to assume by your partial form earlier that you’re at Shibusen? What class are you in? If you don’t mind my asking, of course.” It was a simple enough inquiry, and one that happened very often in Death City whenever he happened to see a new face. By now it seemed second nature to ask. Assuming that Nolan was in fact at Shibusen, Dante at least knew that he either A: hadn’t started yet or B: was in a higher class than him seeing has he couldn’t remember seeing him around the school before.
Or he just hadn’t been as aware of his surroundings as he thought he was. That was possible too. His sprained ankle proved that much.

Watching to see if Dante was buying his dismissal, Nolan felt himself start to sweat a little. Did he just make a big mistake? He did kind of lie to Dante just now, and that thought was nauseating to the usually honest guy. He didn’t want to ruin any chance of earning the other blonde’s trust; he saw a lot of future friendship potential in their relationship. By Dante’s reaction, his first words had Nolan thinking he wasn’t on to him and the large man internally sighed in relief. However, what he said next had Nolan’s stomach twisting in knots. Oh shit, he knew. He knew Nolan was keeping something bottled away inside that he didn’t exactly like to think about on a daily basis…although it sort of plagued him regardless.
Looking on as Dante prop himself up while lying on the grass, Nolan nodded in affirmation when responding to the Italian’s question. “Yep. I’m a One-Star, and just got here about a week or so ago…” He found it difficult to change subjects, as his mind was still on the topic of…well, Irene. Their encounter—on his first day at Shibusen, nonetheless—had left him resentful of himself and his actions. He had upset her in a way that seemed potentially emotionally scarring, and he just couldn’t forgive himself for that. Rubbing a hand over his face, he eyed the young man next to him curiously before speaking up again. Maybe he could talk about his worries with Dante…without actually talking about them. Yeah, that seemed like a good plan. “I—” Oh crap, that was close. “...Um, do you know a girl named Irene? She’s a weapon at Shibusen, too.” He shuffled to stretch out on the ground like Dante was, grunting as his spine gave a few satisfying pops and then settling into a similar propped-up position. His heart was currently running a marathon.

Nolan still looked nervous. Way to go, apparently you weren’t as subtle as you could’ve been. No matter, it was too late now. Either Nolan would ignore him or open up, and Dante was honestly fine with either. It wasn’t really any of his business anyway, granted he would like to help still if he was able. Going along with the other blonde’s responded in an attempt to make him feel more at ease, he smiled leisurely and nodded. “Ah, I thought so. I didn’t remember seeing any new Weapons around, so though you may be new or in a higher class than me,” he explained. He tilted his head and grinned a bit more, “I guess I was right on both counts!”
Leaning back once again on the grass, he crossed his arms over his stomach, prattling on still. “I’m on the NOT class still, but not for much longer. My Meister and I are set up to go on our last mission before we hit One star really soon,” he said, a bit of a giddy tone creeping into his voice. He really couldn’t wait to move up in class. Greater challenges lay ahead, sure, but the blonde fully believed he was ready to face them head on. In his mind, he and Tori could do anything so long as they were a team.
Keeping a careful eye on Nolan, he noticed his anxious behavior. The hand dragging over his face, his unwillingness to speak. Dante began to wonder if he shouldn’t push a bit more, but it would turn out he wouldn’t need to.
…Irene? As in Dixon?
While unexpected, Dante was certainly more encouraged in his ability to potentially help the guy out. Smiling warmly, he nodded and folded his arms behind his head again. “I sure do,” he confirmed, “she’s Levi Kastein’s Weapon. Y’know, the prince?” Somehow he added it out of habit, though Dante wasn’t sure why. Remembering Nolan was new, he shrugged and added, “Or maybe you don’t…now that I think about it, that may be a good thing, though.” Continuing on, he took on a thoughtful expression, leaving one arm lying across his stomach while he brought the other up and grasped his chin as he continued to think. “Granted…I’ve only run into her once, and that was because she was looking for me,” he rambled before giving Nolan an encouraging grin, “I got a pretty good impression of her, though! I know I may not seem it, but I’m good at reading people. Why do you ask?”
