Marks; Sofie; American
Name: Sofie Marks
Nickname: Sofie
Age: 16
Gender: Female
Race: Meister
Position: Student
Class: One Star
Partner: n/a
A Strong Body
Picture: Here!
Appearance: Sofie is five feet and five inches tall. She is thin, more willowy than muscular, but still capable of wielding a weapon. Her hair is brown and cut short in the back, almost haphazardly; it tends to stick out in all directions, and, if she doesn't keep it pressed back with a hairband, it will tangle and cover her eyes. She has two long sidelocks, the ends wrapped in an intricate pattern of blue and silver ribbon and two blue beads at the end. Her skin is pale, and she prefers to keep most of it hidden; she's nervous about her body and how people view it.
She wears a blue scarf up around her neck, the edges tucked into the back of it to keep them from trailing. She has a white, long-sleeved undershirt, and white leggings, over which is a one-piece, sleeveless black outfit with a split up the front that is held together by three silver clasps. Her pant legs are puffy and tied at the end. Her shoes are blue and white, with silver fronts to keep the laces hidden and tied, since she often worries about tripping over them.
She carries herself almost carefully, choosing her steps with interest, as if to keep from losing balance. She can be exceedingly clumsy, outside of battle; within a fight, she seems better able to focus on not losing her balance or tripping over tiny bugs or any of the other million things that might send her plummeting down a flight of stairs. She often hides the bottom half of her face in her scarf, and will seem to shrink down, her posture drooping, in uncomfortable or unpleasant situations. Height: 5'5"
Weight: 127 Ibs
Fighting Style: Being that she is not built for full-frontal attacks, Sofie prefers to put distance between herself and her opponent. She isn't the type to run up and deal punches to the face; rather, she likes to know that she's got room to jump back and dodge or run, if the need arises. She isn't very physically powerful, but she's quick and flexible and moves easily in tight spaces. Personality: Sofie is, to put it mildly, nervous. She was raised by a mother who taught her that essentially everything was dangerous, and so she spends a good deal of time worrying over simple things, like the idea that she might trip over her shoe laces and fall down a flight of stairs, or that, if she leaves the window open, a bird might fly in and peck her in the head. Silly things that most people wouldn't consider to be true dangers, at least not in their everyday life. She frets, and when it becomes too much for her, she can have panic attacks and even faint.
That isn't to say all of her fears are unfounded; she's totally unsure of herself as a Meister, and worries that she'll never be good enough to be considered one, or that no Weapon will choose her, or- worse yet- someone will choose her and will find out how 'useless' she really is. She wants, more than anything, to be able to take care of herself, but she worries that she never will. Deep down, however, is the urge to try, and, after all, only those who know true fear understand true courage.
She can be timid around strangers and grows easily flustered; in situations where she feels intimidated by people- read, any time there are people near her- she can often drop into stutters and rambling. She feels embarrassed by her inability to stand up for herself, but is at a loss as to how to fix that. When she truly trusts a person, though, she is a loyal and steadfast friend, and will not abandon them, no matter what. Inside the Soul
Abilities: Soul Perception; Sofie has the ability to perceive souls. It takes a considerable amount of concentration for her to feel them, and it is not a skill she has been actively attempting to train with. She's not even entirely sure how to turn it 'on', although strong souls will sometimes catch her 'eye'. She's a little uncomfortable about the knowledge that she has this ability. Perhaps souls seem, to her, something private.
Resonances: n/a
Out of your Mind
Strengths: Intelligence Flexible Agile Quick Reflexes
Weaknesses: Physically Weak Psychologically Weak Prone to Panic Attacks in Battle Low Endurance
Hobbies: Writing: Sofie likes to write short stories and poems, in her free time; she has quite an active imagination! She often views her characters as extensions of herself, and will sometimes consider a situation from there point of view; 'What would Rodrigo do here?' It can, at times, help her overcome her fears.
Reading: As an extension of her writing, Sofie likes to read; she prefers fantasy novels to anything else, but also has a secret fascination with raunchy romance books. She would never tell anyone this, and she keeps a small stack hidden in her room at all times. She'd probably die of embarrassment if anyone found out...
Running: Sofie spends about an hour each day running, or jogging; it helps her focus her mind, which tends to race if she doesn't have an activity to keep it steady. She is fast, in short bursts, as long as there's no adrenaline to keep her moving; most of the time, she prefers just to run in a leisurely way.
Likes: -Fantasy books (and romance novels) -The smell of fresh ink on paper -Candy -Animals (though she's constantly worried they'll dislike her)
Dislikes: -Feeling weak -Centipedes (so many legs! Gross!) -Panic attacks -Large crowds Aspirations: Sofie has hopes that, one day, she'll grow brave enough to function as a regular person. She wants to be someone worthy of being called a Meister, although she's still not sure how to do that. She also wants to get her mother to forgive her...
History: Sofie's mother was a somewhat unstable woman, who lived in rural Kansas, with severe paranoia, and who saw most everything in the world as a danger. As such, she raised her daughter to understand how dangerous the outside world is, and to always be careful... perhaps a little too well. Poor Sofie grew up afraid of everything, and rarely left her house; her mother even homeschooled her, fearing for what would happen if the girl were put into public schooling. As such, she never really developed a lot of social skills, and still flounders in such situations.
Despite her fear of what the world was like, Sofie found escape in her books, ordered online- as little human contact as possible was safest, after all! Although there were often frightening situations in the stories, she was fascinated by the courage the characters showed in facing their troubles, and secretly yearned to be capable of such things. Her dreams were filled with daring heroines who could take care of themselves, who saw the mighty dragon and did not run away. Such things seemed impossible for Sofie.
Still, the fascination would not leave her, and so Sofie decided, in her own quiet way, that she would grow better as a person, at least in body. Using her available means- the internet, and books- she tried to train her body to be tough and durable. Unfortunately... her body type and stamina just didn't allow for such things. She actually ended up badly pulling a muscle when she tried to lift something heavier than ten pounds.
She instead turned her free time- her copious amounts of free time- to learning yoga, and dance. She became quite flexible and agile, and rather adept at all manners of dance, although she'd never do so in front of anyone. She learned without classes or true instructors, so the idea of performing in front of anyone utterly mortifies her to this day. Still, the activity settled her mind somewhat... but only for a time. Eventually, she became somewhat depressed again, unable to cope with her lack of ability; after all, her body was trained, but she had no way to use it, and, besides, would probably have been bad at it, anyway. These thoughts pressed her down, until the day her mother came to her room to wake her up, and Sofie felt her mother's soul.
Terrified by this new ability, Sofie turned to her source of information- the internet- and desperately searched for an answer. 'Soul Perception', it was called, said a helpful website. The mark of a potential Meister, and someone who belonged at a strange place called Shibusen.
She had heard of Shibusen before, but had never given much thought to it, until she 'overheard' a chat between potential students online. She was utterly fascinated at the prospect of becoming like the heroes she'd read about, and she asked her mother if she could go- the answer was, of course, 'no'. Heartbroken, Sofie sequestered herself in her room to mope, quietly resigning herself to her fate of remaining as pathetic as she saw herself. She slept, and dreamed of lady knights and dashing rogues, and these dreams gave her a rare, brief moment of courage. She wrote a note to her mother, packed her bags, and headed out for Nevada.
...or, well, tried to. Her mother caught her before she could leave and, fearing for her daughter's safety and terrified at the thought of losing her, locked her in her room for several days. Sofie was denied meals in her mother's attempts at 'persuading' her to change her mind about the entire Shibusen situation, and it was only because a neighbor heard Sofie's crying that the child protective services became involved. They took her from her mother, deemed the woman unfit to raise a child, and attempted to put Sofie into foster care. Instead, and feeling awful about the whole situation, since she saw it as all her fault, Sofie expressed her desire to go to Shibusen. Social services agreed, and sent her on her way there.
She arrived in time to enroll as a Meister, but she was partnerless, and just as nervous and uncertain as ever. Only time will tell if anything will change, or if she'll tuck in her tail and head home, defeated, to face her mother's wrath...
Extra Notes: Her panic attacks range from 'somewhat annoying' to 'utterly debilitating', depending on the situation.
Behind the strings
Alias: Ferbie
Other characters: None
Face Claim: n/a
RP Sample: If she were really honest with herself- and Sofie usually was brutally honest, in her own mind- then she wasn't really sure what she was doing here.
She crept off the bus only after every other passenger had exited, her bag pulled closed to her chest, her green eyes wide as she looked around. The bus stop provided no refuge for the nervous girl; Death City was a bustling place of constant activity, and Sofie was unsure of how to handle the shifting bodies and loud voices. She slipped away from the main sidewalk and tucked herself into the doorway of a secluded looking shop, taking a moment to catch her breath, to fight down the tightening in her chest. With one hand, she reached up and nervously gripped one of her sidelocks, running her fingers over her hair and down to the ribbons and beads in a vain attempt at calming herself. She was fine. She was fine. "I'll be okay." she whispered to herself.
Then she moaned and crouched down, her eyes closed, pressing her face against her bag. Her voice was muffled as she spoke to herself. "Who am I kidding?! This was a terrible idea! I can't do this, no way, I can't, whyyyy did I think I could, what was I thinking, was I thinking at all, oh, gosh, ooooh, there's no way..." she moaned and closed her eyes tight, her heart thudding angrily in her chest. She wanted to cry. She was in a strange place, surrounded by strange people who she was sure hated her- even if she hadn't met any of them yet, she was positive they did, they had to- and she didn't know where to go and she'd been on that bus for hours and she was hungry and tired and-
"'scuse me, miss? You alright?" a sudden voice made her head jolt upwards. A young man had opened the door to the shop front she'd hidden in, and was now looking down at her with a strange mixture of pity and confusion. Sofie jumped to her feet, her face flushing as she struggled with an explination. All she managed to get out was a jumbled mess of words. "Lost- sorry- Shibusen-" he must have made out some of her words, because he relaxed and smiled. "Oh, you're looking for the school, aren't you? It's down that path there, you can't miss it if you follow it, you'll head right for the stairs-" he pointed with one hand, and Sofie shot off like a startled hare, heading in the direction he had mentioned.
A combination of fear and embarrassment brought her to her destination; she saw the enormous flight of steps and skidded to a stop, her eyes wide as she slowly looked up at them. The school... Shibusen. She took a deep breath. She could do this... right? She could at least try. Even if she would, without a doubt, fail horribly.
Sofie swallowed hard, and took her first step forwards.

Alright your profile looks good just a few things you need to tweak and you’ll be good. Appearance: Looks good just make this a little longer, 200-250 words at least is preferable. Height/Weight: This is really close but according to the chart we use she is in the small frame level. Please up her weight to 127 lbs so she can still be willowy but not suffer the fragility that comes with being underweight. Soul Perception: Firstly going to have to say no to feeling souls. I suggest sticking to basic visual soul perception. Souls do not have auras, they are physical things in a character’s chest. She would not be able to feel anything about a soul as that is a more advanced skill. She can’t sense witch souls as that is exactly what soul protect prevents. Strengths/Weaknesses: These are balanced. This is generally the hardest part of a profile but you’re good here so congrats. History: –Where did she live before going to Shibusen? -She would need to be aware of her meister abilities before trying to attend Shibusen. -Running away isn’t the most viable option for attending Shibusen. As she is a minor and Shibusen is a school her mother would be contacted and she would need parental permission to attend. Just fix these things and you should be good to go~
