It was a fantastic day for skating, but then so was any other day in Arlie’s opinion. There was no day that wasn’t perfect for zipping down the street with wheels on her feet. Still being a bit new to Death City, the blonde had decided that her roller skates would likely be a great way for her to make her ways around the city and get a better feel for it. It sounded like a grand idea and one that she decided to go through with. What with the sun shining and the people bustling about, there was no shortage of sights to see, and Arlie had high hopes that she might make a new friend or two in her tour around town. She’d left the dorms fairly early. Being a farm girl, Arlie still hadn’t broken the habit of rising with the sun. Still, she’d stayed inside for a little while to eat breakfast and shower and all that fun stuff that’s generally necessary before heading out. Besides, the later she left, the more people there would be for her to run into! It really was all about the people for Arlie. They were just so much fun to watch and interact with, and everyone was so different and diverse with so many different stories and families. She loved talking to people, even if she could appear a bit too excitable and overbearing, she meant well. Once her skates were securely on her feet, she spun around in a circle with her eyes closed and one arm out. When she stopped, Arlie smiled brightly and took off in the direction she’d been pointing. The blonde tried not to move too fast. She may miss something or someone interesting if she did that or even worse, she could run into someone. Arlie was excellent at roller skating, though, so she had every confidence that she could stop if she was fixing to run someone over. Even better was that there would probably be a few obstacles for her to jump over. She didn’t know too many tricks, but she knew enough to make her skating adventures interesting. It didn’t take long for Arlie to get way away from the dorms where she stayed near Shibusen. Then again the school was visible from pretty much anywhere in Death City, but even using it for a landmark didn’t seem to help her maintain her sense of direction. Weaving in and out of the throngs of people, Arlie turned around and skated backwards for a bit before spinning around and cutting through an alleyway. Skating around a dumpster and hopping over an overturned trashcan, she emerged on the other side and looked around. Yup, not a single familiar building in side. Looking up at Shibusen, the blonde sighed, “Well shucks, looks like I went n’ got lost again.”

Early to bed, early to rise. This rule did not apply to the Energetic Meister. Kaylin was almost constantly on the move. Early to bed was rare and early to rise was constant. Even on this bright day the girl had been up within the early hours of the morning. Pulling on her normal attire of various blues, boots, gloves, ‘jumpsuit’, and cropped tank, the girl was out the door in moments. A smile on her face as always, her short brown locks going every which way… It was a normal sight to see if anyone ever bothered to be up that early. Kaylin had her whip attached to her hip as was normal for this outfit of hers, but the new addition to her was a large sugary pastry she held in her hands. A friend from Shibusen had supplied her with a small box of pastries. He…. Wasn’t exactly good at baking, Kaylin was the only one who ever accepted his offerings… but how she enjoyed them!
Munching on her pastry as she began her morning outing into the city, the girl hummed a tune as she chomped away at her glorious food. The tune held no real melody, one might even wonder if she even knew how to hold a pitch. But down the street she went, no care in the world. As the female finished off the last bite of sugary goodness, the remnants still remained. A light circle of sticky sugar was around her mouth, and the gooey substance even lined her fingers and edges of her fingerless gloves.
And like that she was off. No care in the world about how messy she might look, the meister had taken into a complete run down the street. Not many people were out yet, but that really didn’t come into focus for her. Kaylin was happy just to take part in her normal morning antics. Her first stop seemed to be the basketball court. For a sport-like interest? No… it seemed not. The female only scrambled to the top of a basketball hoop, balancing herself and standing on the top of the backboard. Her hands on her hips, the females eyes traveled over everything. She saw all and realized nothing. People here and there, but it was a fleeting moment that they came into her mind and then they were forgotten almost instantly.
Another moment and the girl had jumped from her height and was on the ground again. One, two feet hit the ground and she was sprinting again.. People were starting to awake. Shops opening, students milling about looking for food, beginning their day… whatever. It didn’t occur to Kaylin why others would get up, heck… she was lucky if she realized that people were there. Running along the sidewalk, she dodged people like she might dodge any other obstacle. Some she moved around, some she used as a spring board. For some reason… people tended not to like this. A few grunts and hollers followed Kaylin’s antics, but no one took the energy to pursue the nutjob. Kaylin didn’t realize that anyone reacted to her either. Pure obliviousness.
Wheels.
She heard them. She saw them. That was the most important. That SEEING. Kaylin didn’t really notice that someone was using them. She noticed the skates and how fast they were moving. Instantly, Kaylin was after them. The girl on skates was fast, her speed helped by the machine of wheels on her ‘shoes.’ But Kaylin was simply focused on this one thing. WHEELS! A smile on her face, the girl let out a laugh as her game of tag began.
The girl turned into an alley and Kaylin had gained so she wasn’t far behind. Turning the corner after the girl had almost exited the alley, the meister jumped onto the dumpster instead of the other girl’s avoidance. Running across it, hopping to the trash can, then taking one final leap. The girl had just exited the alley. Her attention was someplace else and words escaped the female.
But… Kaylin’s aim was to tackle the female. That was what her final leap had meant to accomplish. Following the girl and then TAG!
”WHEELS!”
Kaylin exclaimed excitedly as her body was a mere foot or less from making contact.

Keeping her eyes on Shibusen in the distance, Arlie was a bit lost in thought. That was the problem with the blonde; she started out thinking about one thing and then wound up miles away. Was she still lost? Yes, very much so, but that wasn’t particularly worrying to her after standing and staring at the far off school for a bit. Her mind had then wandered to whether or not she could possibly skate up, or possibly down if she felt daring enough, the many stairs that led up to Shibusen. Was it dangerous? Yes, most definitely so, however Arlie was certain that if she practiced on enough smaller staircases that perhaps one day she would accomplish such a feat. Arlie could already skate down railings and leap down shorter staircases without too much trouble, how hard could hundreds upon hundreds of steps possibly be?
Up until she’d stopped, the commotion of her being followed hadn’t reached her. The wind in her ears and the thrill she got from speeding along on her trusty skates had distracted her completely, although now it was a bit obvious. She heard something hit the trash can she’d jumped over. Arlie being Arlie, it didn’t occur to her that the sound was that particular trash can but perhaps something else that lined the street. Leaning forward a bit, she looked up and down the sidewalk. No, she didn’t really see anything metallic enough other than the cars in the road that could cause such a noise, and there were no collisions she could see. Besides, wouldn’t there be more screaming if that had happened?
“WHEELS!”
Oh so it was coming from behind her! Arlie turned on her heel, keeping her one skate firmly on the ground as not to move too much. The blonde turned just enough to see the energetic female flying towards her at quite an impressive rate of speed,
“What in tarnation?”
It didn’t worry her, though, if anything it made her excited. A grin that rivaled that of the sun spread across her face. Well, this was certainly turning out to be a fun morning! The thought of the imminent impact didn’t worry Arlie. She was a former roller derby girl, she’d taken a tackle or two and walked away victorious, albeit limping a bit. Besides, judging by how excited this girl looked, she didn’t think she was aiming to tackle her out of malice. She could always be proven wrong, but she could deal with that if the time came for it.
Turning one of her feet to the side to brace herself, she kept the other straight forward. That way when her pursuer tackled her, they would merely spin about in the circle. Arlie also held out her arms, because in her opinion there was never a wrong time for a hug. Not only would they hopefully avoid knocking anybody over, but it’d also be ten times more fun that way!

Those wheels! Kaylin was super excited about them. The few moments she was flying she couldn’t stop thinking about how much fun they would be! Skating around, rolling, being fast, laughing… They must be great things. Really, how could they not be? Little round rolly things that made this light humming sound against the ground! All that movement! It was just awesome! And that’s when contact was made. Kaylin’s arms wrapped around the girl, and Arlie hugging to her as well. The Energetic Meister had totally missed any expression on the other girl’s face, she wasn’t totally paying attention. It was all about those skates! A laugh escaping Kaylin as the two of them spun in circles, she couldn’t help but be overjoyed. Arlie knew how to position herself to not get put in a position to compromise herself, Kaylin just jumped first.
As the spinning slowed, Kaylin firmly planted her feet on the ground, instead of letting them fling around as they had been, and kicked back off the ground away from Arlie. Releasing the other girl from her grasp, it would probably do well for her to let go of Kaylin as well. The force of the kick should have sent her a few feet back, almost smacking into a person passing. The glare and scoff went unnoticed to the meister as the man continued on his way.
”That was awesome!”
The meister exclaimed loudly, jumping in the air three times while clapping her hands in front of herself. A wide grin was on the girl’s face, mimicking the girl in front of her. Kaylin had caught the smile now. Bright and wonderful! The girl’s energy was only strengthened by the joy of this newfound character. Anyone with joy to spare would just egg Kaylin on! Quickly closing the space between her and Arlie once again, the girl’s attention seem to have switched.
Her eyes focused just to the side of Arlie’s face, Kaylin’s hand was reaching for something. Right hand positioned in such a way that she was merely pointing, not grabbing, she still got closer to Arlie. Heck… If the girl didn’t stop her or at least back up a step, the meister would probably have climbed on her like clinging to a tree, simply pointing to her earring.
”Does that make you fly?”
Then, just as suddenly as she had decided to become focused on the earring, Kaylin spun away from Arlie. Weight on her left foot, she spun in a circle and a half then took two steps away, only to spin and face Arlie again. A grin still on her face, she looked overjoyed and curious at the same time.
”Are you a fairy?”
Her words were quick out of her mouth, her expression instantly turning into that of pure excitement. Ever since she had joined the school, every now and then a student would mention fairies to her. That they really existed, what they could do, where they lived… It all started with a boy trying to distract her. But the girl was convinced that they had to exist somewhere!
Then her expression changed once again, the female rubbing the back of her head and her face almost seemed annoyingly pained. Like something had bit her.
”What’s a tarnation?”
It had taken a moment, but her memory had caught up with her. Arlie had spoken that word. Kaylin didn’t understand it. But… in about two seconds it wouldn’t matter. The girl’s smile was already back. Apparently her previously ‘pained’ expression was how she used her mind to think or recall. Her attention span didn’t last very long. So even if she didn’t receive a response for one or any of her questions, she may not even remember or care. Her hands were resting against her hips now, her fingers tapping lightly against her clothing. Almost like she was waiting… or… preparing?

Arlie caught the girl in her arms and made sure to hang onto her good and tight as they spun around, her own excited giggles escaping at the fun of it all. It sure was turning out to be an exciting morning! Really thought, what could be better? The blonde would rather skate around town and have little fun run-ins like these rather than just traipse about aimlessly lost. The fact that she didn’t know where she was seemed to be a thought long gone now, though, as the excitable girl who’d leapt in to her arms went about being even more excitable. Arlie fixed her ponytail to make sure it was still neat and tied and gave the girl a grin,
“Sure was! I ain’t spun ‘round n’ ‘round like that in a while!”
Arlie had to admit, she may have no clue who this cheerful young belle was, but she certainly liked her so far. She was almost childlike in how unabashedly happy she was, and it warmed the blonde’s heart to see it. People just didn’t smile enough these days, everyone was always so gloomy and unfriendly! As the girl’s attention seemed to switch and become fixated on the young Texan, Arlie tilted her head as she seemed to be infatuated with her earring. Ah, so that was it! Gosh, earrings that made people fly, wouldn’t that be something! Unfortunately that wasn’t the case, although Arlie couldn’t get such an answer out until after the cheerful sprite of a girl spun around before her. Giggling at her antics, the blonde grinned and shook her head so the metal of the pieces of jewelry in question would make a delicate metallic noise,
“’Fraid not, stranger! I’m just plain ol’ me, although if I git goin’ fast ‘nough on these here skates I sure could fly over the sidewalk like one!”
Gracious, this merry maiden was just full of questions, not that Arlie minded. She had many a younger sibling, and so she was used to having questions fired at her at lightning speed from when they’d been younger. This next one did give her pause though. Scratching the back of her own head almost identically to the girl in front of her, Arlie furrowed her eyebrows and pouted a bit,
“What’s a tarnation? Hmmm…”
An answer eluded the blonde. It was a common saying, similar to ‘what the heck’ or ‘what in the world’, but that seemed too simple an answer to her since it wasn’t the phrase but rather the word that was being questioned. Eventually shrugging her shoulders, Arlie let out a half of a laugh and shook her head,
“Well golly, I guess I dun know! Sorry, sugar.”
She didn’t seem disappointed if the smile on her face was any indication. It appeared to be contagious, as Arlie’s own bright smile was soon back on her face as she chuckled without really understanding why. This girl just bled sunshine and rainbows, didn’t she? Arlie felt cheerful just looking at her! Figuring it as good a time as any, Arlie skated a circle around the girl before spinning around once and pausing beside her in the pose of a salute,
“As long as we’re here, my name’s Arlie! It sure is a joy to meet yah!”

At the point Kaylin had let go and the Arlie girl was straightening her hair back up, Kaylin tilted her head in curiosity. What in the world was she doing? A playful grin on her own face, she mimicked the girl in her own odd sort of way. Both her hands moving to her head, she leaned forward slightly and ruffled her hair into a more knotted mess then previously, then straightened herself up once again and ending in a hearty laugh. She heard Arlie’s words. Just barely. She hadn’t spun like that in a while. That in one ear and right out the other. Not really sticking to the young meister’s mind, but it was a triumph that she heard it in the first place!
What really caught her attention again was the noise. A gleeful yelp sort of sound escaped her lips, her eyes focusing right back on the peculiar earrings. The light noise was wonderful! Like any other noise and not at the same time! The girl was talking again, but Kayiln was already up close to the girl again, starting to circle around her. Attention was mostly on the earrings, but here eyes darted about the girl’s bright-ish clothing, wheels, earrings, bows… Everywhere. That didn’t mean Kaylin acknowledged their existence really, just that… her eyes were moving. Those wheels were fading in her memory. The earrings starting to lose interest.
”You talk funny.”
Kaylin said this simply, like some observation that she didn’t care if she heard or not. A light grin on her face, she hopped directly in front of Arlie again and stared the girl straight in the eye. Kaylin caught that Arlie was not ‘fraid. Whatever that meant. But she could fly over the sidewalk! Her grin only grew as her mind raced. The girl could fly!!! At least over the sidewalk. Did that mean she was a sidewalk fairy? Or was she a sort of thing like a fairy but not a fairy… Is that what a ‘fraid was? But she said she wasn’t a ‘fraid? Shaking her head, Kaylin let the bustling thoughts escape her mind, it was drowning out everything else!
More words… this girl was talking again! A grin still remained on Kaylin’s face, listening. It was only a few words, that was helpful for her focus. And it was what she said! A more playful look seeping into her expression, more excitement, Kaylin thought it was that Simon game! She was copying her! Instantly Kaylin was watching Arlie. When she shrugged her shoulders, Kaylin did the same. The half of a laugh and the shake of her head, Kaylin mimicked, except with the added dose of joy that came with the energetic meister.
In order to keep up with words though, Kaylin basically had to speak with her. Only two words behind the whole time, Kaylin also spoke
”Well golly, I guess I dun know! Sorry, sugar.”
A bright grin on her face. Even if Arlie hadn’t been smiling, Kaylin wouldn’t have been able to mimic that. Too difficult and it didn’t really register that she should change her face. But then Arlie skated a circle around her. Laughing quietly, Kaylin stretched her arms up and then crossed them behind her head. Spinning around with Arlie to always keep her eyes on the woman, she made no move to mimic her now. That game was done in her mind.
The salute though… Kaylin couldn’t help but mimic. Not out of thinking it was a game, but because it looked absolutely exhilarating! Yea. That’s right, a salute! Mirroring Arlie in body, her form only shook a bit from the constant laughter. The funny talking ‘fraid was making noise again. Arlie the ‘Fraid! A grin still on her face, Kaylin leaned backwards and pushed off the ground with her feet. Quick backwards flip and landing once again on her feet.
”Kaylin! Energetic Meister!”
A little bit of distance between them now, Kaylin performed the salute once again. But her eyes caught something behind Arlie. Unknown to the young female, she was quietly talking. More like rhythmically repeating a few words. ”Arlie the ‘Fraid. Arlie the ‘Fraid.[/i] her hand that had been saluting was on now tapping against her thigh as if some music was running through her head.
Then all was broken when Kaylin exclaimed
”PUPPY!”
Her hand bursting out and pointing towards a fairly large german shepherd. Ears pricked forwards towards them and ducking back into the alley at being noticed. Kaylin… Was tense, and seemed ready to run Arlie over in the next moment, totally forgetting her existence. [/size]

The remark on her accent didn’t bother Arlie one bit. If anything it just made her giggle and gave her the knowledge that this girl had probably never met a Texan before. She found it odd, but then again coming from Texas herself the thought of someone having never met anyone from her home state was a bit jarring in her mind. Never met a Texan? Now that was just sad! Arlie would whole heartedly declare that anyone who had never either met a Texan or been to Texas was missing out on one of the best experiences life had to offer since they were only the most welcoming, wholesome folk in the whole wide world in her eyes. Still, the accent remark wasn’t an issue,
“Can’t deny that! I am from Texas after all.”
The copying of words was a bit stranger but again, something that Arlie’s own younger siblings had done several times so she was used to it. It made the blonde tilt her head, but the smile didn’t leave her face albeit she did look at least a bit confused. Maybe this girl was tiring to get around her accent better by trying to mimic it? Yeah, that made sense enough that Arlie accepted that was what happened. The confusion dissipated quickly thought with the young lady now known as Kaylin having introduced herself in the most exuberantly playful manner Arlie had ever seen in an introduction. Gracious, this girl was just ten kinds of happy!
Arlie copied Kaylin’s second solute and nodded her head to show her understanding, a delighted chuckle escaping her lips. The blonde clicked her heels together, rolling slightly backwards in the process on her skates. Arlie quickly remedied this, though, and turned her feet inwards so she would slide quite so much. She’d hate to bump into someone on accident and have them get mad, although she wasn’t above a street brawl if words happened to be exchanged.
Kaylin’s attention seemed to be behind her, though. Blinking, Arlie tilted her head and waved a hand at the Meister,
“Kaylin? Watcha lookin’ at?”
Of course the simple solution was to turn around, but Arlie didn’t actually follow through with it until after the word puppy had been excitedly uttered by Kaylin. Following where her newfound acquaintance was pointing, she was just quick enough to see that there was indeed a german shepherd ducking into the alleyway. Arlie loved dogs and would freely admit such, so her expression softened almost immediately into a doe-eyed stare as she clasped her hands in front of her chest,
“Aw! Well ain’t it just the cutest lil’ thang!”
Noticing how eager Kaylin seemed to give chase, Arlie thought perhaps it would be better to be a bit cautious. The dog was cute but it also had teeth like most canines. If they scared it, the shepherd could bite and that would be not nice at all. Raised her hands, Arlie smiled and tried to get Kaylin’s attention,
“Now Kaylin, let’s be careful okay? That pup’s awful cute, but we wouldn’t wanna spook him.”
Hoping rather than waiting to actually see if her words had any effect on the sidetracked young belle, Arlie skated slowly over to the opening of the alley. Coming to a stop just before the entrance, she kneeled down and extended her hand palm up, speaking in a soft voice,
“It’s okay, you can come out. We ain’t gonna hurt yah.”

Texas.
The word rang in her mind for a split second, then was gone. One could only imagine if the information would ever come to the surface again in the young meister’s mind… A grin on her face, she seemed almost constantly distracted. Eyes never settled on one single thing for too long, always darting around, and she was constantly moving. Whether it was a jump, or a light twitch, or her ‘chanting’, Kaylin was much too excited about… everything.
Arlie took the copying nicely. Not that Kaylin expected different, that was her game afterall! All of this copying, the wheeled girl smiled the whole while. That was always an energy booster for the meister, people smiling and enjoying life. It was what she thrived off of in the circus! Joy to all those people and herself! A smile to match the blonde, a laugh escaped for a moment as she returned to her distracted state. Name given, she was done with her call! Arlie copied the movement, but Kaylin didn’t much notice. Once again her mind was completely taken by something else vastly different from its original trajectory.
Hand waved by Arlie, Kaylin barely noticed but didn’t make any movement to show that her attention was caught. That dog was all that was running through her mind. Animal. Cute. Outside. Play. FUN! The smile not leaving the child, she did have the full intention of running Arlie down to get to the animal. Not because she had anything against the girl… She just… sort of forgot she was there, and it so happened that Arlie would be in the way if Kaylin took the shortest route to the dog.
Thankfully, Arlie’s comments that were inserted were a slight distraction. Every time Arlie opened her mouth, Kaylin’s focus on the dog broke little by little. That accent through Kaylin off a bit. The words sounded strange, so they grabbed her ear, causing her to laugh as she had little clue to what she was saying. But the thought would run back around that the cute thing was the dog! Then she mentioned something about being careful… Careful? The word rang in her mind, bringing up quick memories of the many times that word had been said to her. With large cats and foreign animals… Careful? That had something to do with that ‘danger’ word right?
Arlie had left her spot before Kaylin had. Moving to the dog and coaxing it from the alley. Meanwhile… Kaylin had forgotten about the dog… Why? A small child had walked by. But not just ANY child. This small person was holding a most glorious item. A cone of ice cream.
Eyes wide and smile huge, Kaylin’s eyes followed the wondrous treat as the kid walked on past her and then eventually out of sight. The sugar and cold were oh so wonderful. In an instant, Kaylin had closed the distance between her and Arlie. And… in actuality Kaylin sprinted so quickly towards Arlie that she had no intention of stopping herself on her own. Moving at top speed, the crouched skater had little chance of moving totally out of the way in time before Kaylin went completely to tackle her to the ground.
”Ice cream!!!!!! Fraid? Ice cream? Puppy’s like ice cream?”
The begging eyes of the girl made her look like a small child, the grin on her face much like a small kid as well. But in an instant, Kaylin was on her feet again, bouncing around like some rabbit with ADHD. Her eyes were moving about, looking for some sort of source for the treat. But once again, she looked to Arlie.
”FRAID!!!! FRAID PLEASE FRAID!”
Reaching out, she went to take Arlie’s hands. Trying to pull her off somewhere?

Wait, what about ice cream? Arlie looked up just in time to be tackled by Kaylin, letting out a surprised squeak as she tipped backward and hit the ground. The sighed and propped herself up on her elbows, raising an eyebrow and tilting her head. What was the energetic Meister on about now? Arlie didn’t actually know if dogs liked ice cream, but she could assume they would. IT was sweet after all. What didn’t like sweet?
While Arlie had fully intended to chastise Kaylin just a tiny bit for running into her, the words left her mind upon seeing that face of hers. It was the eyes that did it, and Arlie was instantly reminded of her younger brothers. They used that exact look on her whenever they wanted something, and it always worked. The blonde sighed again. Oh who was she kidding, she couldn’t stay mad at this cheerful cutie! That would be a crime in and of itself. Smile back on her face, Arlie finally answered her,
“I’m not sure, sweet pea, but I can’t think of any reason why puppies wouldn’t like ice cream. It is sweet after all. Ain’t no good thing on this great earth that don’t like sweet.”
That was how Arlie saw it, anyway. Anyone who didn’t like sugar, she just didn’t trust, but that was just her own personal bias. Thankfully Kaylin was on her feet again which allowed Arlie to situate herself and work on getting to her feet. Slowly as to make sure not to slip on her wheeled feet, Arlie stood up just in time for Kaylin to grab her hands. Fraid? Oh, there must have been a name mix up. Oh well, she could correct her later. Currently she doubted that Kaylin would ever hear her, fixated as she was on the getting the cold treat. Arlie smiled and skated forward just enough to halt beside Kaylin,
“Well shoot, if you want ice cream; let’s go get some ice cream!”

Poor Arlie had indeed been tackled to the ground, the squeak coming from the blonde being completely lost to the ears of the energetic meister. The girl’s expression wasn’t a simple smile, so Kaylin didn’t really notice that much either. Her attention now completely booked by something that was OBVIOUSLY more important. Ice cream. It really was a great thing. Cold. Sugary. Yummy. And it could be mixed with so many things! There was no flavor or mixture that Kaylin had disliked, nothing that she would turn down. The fact that it could be so crazy and amusing drew her to it.
Arlie spoke again, that accent once again throwing Kaylin through at least seven hoops. Cocking her head to the right slightly, the instant pausing in movement from the meister was almost surprising. The grin remained on her face but that same discomfort from earlier returned. She was… thinking?
Sweet pea. Sweet pea…. Sweeeeeetttt peeeaaaaa?
She ran it through her mind over and over again, it not making any connections in her mind. Kaylin’s eyes then started darting around the area again, the meister turning a full 360 and facing Arlie again.
”What is this Pea? And why is it sweet?”
Placing her hands on her hips, the meister’s grin widened immensely. Before Arlie could answer the girl’s silly question, Kaylin removed her hands from her hips, made a fist with her right hand and swiftly placed it into the palm of her left. A determined, amused, and downright happy look covered the girl’s face.
”THAT’S THE FAIRY OF ICE CREAM!”
Arlie assisted to her own demise. Rolling up easily in her skates next to Kaylin, the blonde surely held the assumption that they were going to get ice cream like normal people. Kaylin also had the intention of getting ice cream. From a presumed fairy, named Sweet Pea, who was the keeper of this sweet treat. Now, Kaylin new other people sold this treat, made it, and also just gave it away. But why not go right to the source?!?! Especially because the source was a FAIRY. One more thing. Obviously, OBVIOUSLY, Arlie knew this fairy. AFterall, the Fraid was the one who brought it up.
With these thoughts simply flitting through Kaylin’s mind, she was moving herself again in an instant. Where to one might wonder? Well attempting to get on Arlie’s back of course! How else were they going to catch the fairy? Tsk tsk. Arlie was a Fraid. She could fly! She said so herself!
”ONWARD FRAID!!! LET’S FIND SWEET PEA!”
Her words were spoken while her laughter rang out. This was turning into a glorious day.

Arlie had thought that she was maybe the most excitable person on the planet, but her time spent with Kaylin was quite quickly proving her wrong. The girl was so overjoyed at the aspect of future frozen dairy treats she emitted a sound that the blonde previously thought only dogs could hear. Even so, she couldn’t help but giggle at her enthusiasm. Even as she appeared to pause in her merriment, Arlie wondered just what was going through Kaylin’s head. Watching her pause but continue to smile, the blonde waited to see if she said anything and then responded to the best of her abilities, tilting her own head a bit and reaching to adjust the ponytail at the back of her head,
“Well, technically a sweet pea is a kinda vegetable, but they’re sweeter than normal peas which is why they call ‘em that. I’m callin’ you sweet pea ‘cause you’re pretty sweet too!”
Arlie had the feeling her explanation fell on deaf ears. Sighing, she watched Kaylin’s movements and gathered that once again, she had completely misunderstood. Maybe she needed to stop using so many pet names with this one. It seemed to be messing with her understanding. That would be difficult as they were near second nature to Arlie and her speech patterns, but the blonde could at least try and see what happened. Granted a fairy of ice cream did sound like something truly splendid. Maybe this misunderstanding wasn’t so terrible after all, even if Arlie didn’t fully understand said misunderstanding herself. She was starting to feel like Alice in Wonderland, except here is was Arlie in Kaylinland and she was sure that this encounter was far more fun and would include less queens trying to cut off her head. She could do without the Cheshire cat as well now that she thought of it.
As Kaylin moved once again, Arlie for once anticipated she may do something like try to get on her back. Shaking her head but with a grin still in place on her face, she bent her knees slightly so the energetic Meister would have an easier time. Trying not to roll or slip would be the most difficult part, but she had no doubt she could do this. It wasn’t like she couldn’t lift things after all, and besides, Kaylin would probably get a kick out of being roller skated to their destination, wherever it happened to be. What’s more, Arlie was pretty sure at this point she’d made a new friend!
As Arlie thought, Kaylin had indeed missed her name entirely, but she only giggled a bit. Once the other girl was at least vaguely secure on her back, Arlie shifted and adjusted how she stood,
“My name’s not Fraid, it’s Arlie. Now then, sugar, let’s go find this fairy o’ yours! Hang on tight!”
With that having been said, Arlie pushed forth and skated onward down the sidewalk, careful to side step or occasionally spin around any obstacles, be they people or other things they could run into like fire hydrants. The further they went, the more they picked up a pretty good speed even with Arlie weight down, and soon the wind was blowing through both their hair, a giddy grin hanging from Arlie lips. They were on a quest for ice cream and by golly, they were gonna find it!

Thankfully, Kaylin did not hear Arlie’s explanation of what a sweet pea actually was. The confusion that would have been accompanied by this shock would have been quite a sight to behold. However, the energetic meister was much more consumed with the idea of going in search of this Fairy Queen with the assistance of Arlie’s flying.
AND THERE SHE WAS! On the back of the her knew Fraid friend, the two were ready to go search for this wonderful Queen! The climb onto Arlie’s back proved much less difficult than one would assume. Most of that was due to Arlie’s surrender to the girl’s antics. Left hand solidly holding to Arlie’s shoulder, legs wrapped around the blonde, and right hand in a fist held in the air, Kaylin couldn’t keep herself from giggling. This was absolutely AMAZING.
The first part of Arlie’s spoken words caught Kaylin’s ears. Not Fraid? Well then who was fraid? The memory of what had actually transpired earlier was mostly lost. This not being new for the meister, she merely assumed that she had forgotten. Arlie. So Arlie it was. But who was this Fraid? She wouldn’t just make that up! Right when she was about to ask Arlie if she had an dark fairy twin, Arlie skated forward.
Laughter ringing out, caused by the meister, her right hand instantly shot down to steady herself instead of freely swinging about in the air. ”We are flyyinnnngggg!” It was somewhat difficult to understand the words of the young female through her laughter, but with Arlie’s experience with her so far, she may be able to catch it. The blonde was picking up speed, it wasn’t hard for Kaylin to believe she was flying. It was a grand experience! In fact. She mostly forgot why they were flying, that originally they set off because they had a destination.
Sweet Pea’s and fairies leaving her mind, she was being enveloped by the flight mode!
Well. For a short while at least. But what was this? What was this new thing? A sound? Mixtures of sounds? MUSIC?!
Eyes darting about as the duo turned and worked their way through the streets, Kaylin spotted the new focus of her energy. A small group of musicians had gathered on the corner of the street. A trumpet player, a saxophone, bass, keyboard, and a small percussion setup. The five were jamming out to a more contemporary jazz set, but that type of complexity was lost on the energetic meister. What she did know was that music was happening. Those instruments were shiny, and she liked shiny and musical things.
Arlie passed straight by them, probably missing the real grandeur of this event! Well Kaylin would surely show her. Stop? Stop how? Hands instantly shooting out, Kaylin’s legs tightened about around Arlie. Why did her hands shoot out? To catch a lightpost as they passed by of course! Hands gripping to the lightpole, legs tightening around Arlie, she tried to stop the girl. Well.. even if that failed, the instant stop of momentum in Kaylin’s movement caused her to drop to the ground. Hands letting go of the pole and legs letting go of Arlie, she hit the ground on her side.
Laughing and excited, Kaylin was too excited to let this stop her. Instantly recovering from the fall, she was on her feet and sprinting back the way they had come. Her intention?
”I WANT TO PLAY THE PIE-ANN-NEEEEE!!!”
And of course, she was heading straight for the group. Her attention fully focused on the keyboard and player.

Arlie wasn’t too worried about pitching forwards or backwards with Kaylin on her back. After all this wasn’t the first time she’d had a passenger aboard flying United Arlie Airways. Her younger brothers used to ask for piggy back rides a lot when they were more compact so they could fly too, granted they were a bit old for that now. Apparently now that they were preteens it was “embarrassing”, but Arlie wasn’t too upset. That just meant she could go even faster without having to worry over their well being, but for the moment she held Kaylin well, gliding down the streets like a pro and keeping grey eyes peeled for frozen dairy treats.
Kaylin’s laughter brought a bright smile to Arlie’s face. She was glad her new friend was having so much fun! Giggling a bit at the other girl’s excited words, the blonde slowed to spin a vague circle before continuing onwards, just for added affect. It seemed appropriate, plus it was fun so why not? Music hit her ears, but Arlie paid only slight attention to it. Her focus was elsewhere on son to be gotten frozen delicacies, or at least it was until Kaylin noticed it.
She noted the girl was oddly quiet given that she’d been so rambunctious so far. Jazz providing a background to their daring adventures in search of dessert items, she paid only very little mind to it. Until Kaylin’s hands shot out and Arlie felt her legs tight around her waist. What was up? Making a small sound of inquiry only to note the lamp post Kaylin had grabbed a touch too late. Arlie had never been so thankful for her skills in previous roller derbies. She skidded a bit before she managed to turn her feet sideways and break. Leaning backwards just enough to topple over with her arms flailing a bit, she landed a whole lot softer than she would have had she not noticed. The blonde breathed a sigh of relief and shook her head a bit. That was a close one.
Arlie’s grey gaze searching for Kaylin, but the girl was on the move again. For a moment, she slowly stood up and dusted herself off, looking all around. “Kaylin?” she called. Not a moment later, she heard the girl excitedly yelling and turned see her headed straight for the music group playing. Making a vague wheezing noise of panic, Arlie darted after her, “Wait!”
This could be going better. The blonde hooked both arms around the Kaylin’s waist and bent her knees, shifting her weight back. Of course, Arlie also forgot she was on roller skates and that this would do jack-all to stop the wily Meister. Trying to stop her while on wheels was about as effective as trying to calm an angry rattler with a saxophone. Squeezing her eyes shut as she tried to at least get Kaylin to power down to a slower pace to avoid crashing headlong into the instrumentalist, it was a rather comical sight to say the least as Arlie was dragged along behind her. “Slow down, sugar, you’ll crash!”
