A Strong Body
Picture:
Appearance:
Mei is not the least bit tall. She is very short at only 5’1” and needs a stool to reach the top shelves in the kitchen. To make up for this, though, she has a figure one wouldn’t normally expect of a Chinese girl. Mei has a well rounded figure and her hips and chest are eye catching to say the least. Her skin is sun kissed from all the work she’s don eon her family’s farm, however she tans even more during the Summer months. She has a light speckling of freckles on the bridge of her nose. Mei’s hair, when not tied back, reaches to her mid back and is pitch black. Most of the time she wears it in braids that she ties with ribbons. It not braids, then she has her bangs held back in clips or her hair tied up in a bun. Mei wears just a touch of makeup, only really applying mascara since she can’t afford muchelse.
As far as clothes go, Mei really doesn’t have anything all that fancy. Much of what she wears are things that her older sisters wore before her, and very few articles of clothing are truly hers. While the hand-m-downs do fit her thanks to her mother’s sewing abilities, they do look a bit dated. Mei wears an array of colors, not being to terribly picky, but she does seem to love red and orange. She usually wears pants of some sort, occasionally shorts. She owns skirts but usually saves them for special occasions. As far as shirts go, most of her things are long sleeves although she does have tees and tank tops. Mei will almost always have a sweater of some sort over whatever top she is wearing. Having an extra layer makes her feel more secure. As far as jewelry goes, Mei really doesn’t have all that much. Most of what she has is the super cheap plastic stuff you’d expect to see in Claire’s, but she does have a few actual expensive pieces that are family heirlooms.
Height: 5’1”
Weight: 115lbs
Fighting Style:
Mei knows a bit of Kung Fu. In their younger years, the only movies they had on tape were old Kung Fu movies. She and her cousins thought Jackie Chan and Bruce Lee were the coolest people to ever walk the Earth for several years, so they sort of spent their spare time play fighting and trying to copy what they’d seen on television. While Mei isn’t likely to break a stack of cinderblocks with her forehead, she can do most of the basic stuff like kicks and punches with a few fancy moves hidden up her sleeve.
Personality:
Mei is shy but tries her best to overcome it. When meeting someone for the first time she’ll stutter, blush, fidget, and avoid eye contact. Her nerves will slowly get to her and she may lapse into Chinese and then back into English that is far from perfect. This is especially true around boys, and she tends to avoid talking to the opposite gender if at all possible. However once she gets used to a new person and she hangs around them for a bit, she’ll slowly get over her nervousness. She’ll smile and giggle and even try to make jokes, although nobody really gets her farm humor most of the time. Jokes about plowing fields will only be funny so many times after all. Mei is a very sweet girl and worries over anyone and everyone that she considers a friend, always asking how they are doing and if they need help.
Speaking of help, Mei is more than willing to lend a hand to anybody who needs it. She’ll cook, clean, babysit, tutor, the works. If a friend is sick, she’ll be over at their house and looking after them until they are well again. Although she hasn’t had much education up until attending Shibusen, Mei will do her best to help a friend with their homework if they ask. She’s very bright; she just hasn’t studied all that much in her life. An angry Mei is something rarely ever seen. She’s passive aggressive and would rather avoid any physical violence if possible. However, she can get angry, mainly if someone insults her heritage or teases her over her English skills, or lack thereof rather. Mei will curse at them in Chinese, maybe storm off in a rage, and in all likelihood shed a few tears of frustration in the process. She isn’t used to conflict and the whole feeling of fury isn’t one she enjoys.
Sadness isn’t handled well either with Mei. Being taught that she should be reserved when it came to grief and anger, she bottles tings up until she just can’t take it anymore. When Mei cries, one would think someone had just killed her parents and set her house on fire. Tears, snot, uncontrollable sobbing, the works. Mei is pretty much inconsolable when she’s feeling depressed and will try to avoid people she knows on purpose to avoid being asked if she’s doing okay. This question alone will be enough to send her into a whirlwind of tears as she’d rather die than lie. Thus Mei will hide away in her dorm room until she feels better to avoid anyone seeing her in such a pathetic state.
Inside the Soul
Weapon form: Demon Jian
Mei’s Weapon form is that of Jian, a Chinese sword. The blade is double-edged and is near two and a half feet long. The hilt is decorated with the gold face of a Shishi where the blade starts. An ornate gold tassel hangs from the end of the hilt.
Partial Form: Mei’s partial form is fairly simple. The blade of her Weapon form will extend out of her right wrist over the top of her hand. However, this only works if her hand is closed. If her hand is open nothing happens.
Abilities:
Cooking – Mei has been cooking since she was very young. At times she and her sister would be left alone in the house until late, and it fell to Mei to make sure her little sister was fed. Over the years she’s become one hell of a chef.
Cleaning – Mei is OCD about keeping things neat and tidy. It drives her right up the walls if anything is dusty, smudged, or stained. She goes over her dorm room with a duster, broom, and mop at least one everyday to keep up appearances, and does the more hardcore things like scrubbing the floors and windows and beating out the rugs on weekends.
Sewing – Not having much money for new clothes, Mei is very used to mending clothes as well as letting them out so they would fit her as she grew. This skill especially came in handy when she hit puberty and had to alter most of her old clothes to fit her new hips and bust.
Resonances: N/A
Out of your Mind
Strengths:
Physically Strong Cat-Like Reflexes High Stamina
Weaknesses:
Low Endurance Poor Strategy Skills Near Sighted
Hobbies:
Studying – A rather recent hobby that Mei has picked up. Not having had the option of going to school back home, Mei studies for at least four hours each day if not more for her classes at Shibusen. She is determined to get an education and never have to go back to her home town having disappointed her family’s expectations of her. She will make something of herself or die trying.
Gardening – Being a country girl who grew up on a farm, Mei loves plants and the like. She has one or two Banzai plants and some flowers growing on her window sill in her room. Ask her to give your lawn a make over and it’ll look better than it has in years. This girl has the gift of a green thumb.
Singing – Something she has done since she was young. Living with her young sister and then four cousins, Mei often sang lullabies to them before they went to sleep. Her voice is quite pleasant to listen to and she isn’t shy about singing in public. It’s one of the few things she has confidence about.
Movies – Mei is a nut for films. If you need a movie buddy for Friday night, she’s right there no matter what genre. She loves all kinds of movies but particularly loves horror films and action films, even if the scary ones keep her up at night staring at the closet.
Likes: - Animals - Wide Open Spaces - Nature - Sunlight - Tea - Red - Cats
Dislikes: - Typhoons - Snakes - Locusts - Arrogant People - Dark - Rap Music - Dogs
Aspirations: First and foremost, Mei wishes to become a Death Scythe. She also wants to go study at a University and possibly turn her singing into a career if possible.
History:
Mei Fu Yin was born on the 8th of May in the Yunnan Province of China. Her younger sister Nuo Ming Yin was born three years later. The two were born to a farming family and were taught hard work from the moment they could walk. Mei could cook by the time she was five. She knew how to plow a field and sew seeds by the age of eight. Mei and her sister attended elementary school, but were pulled from middle school to help with work on the farm when their father fell ill. The two girls and their mother did their very best in tending to the farm while trying to make sure Mei and Nuo’s father was on the mend. Unfortunately, the poor man was eventually hospitalized with pneumonia. Unable to pay for the proper care, Mei and her sister lost their father at the ages of ten and seven. Family members from nearby swooped in to help the grieving family and provide support. Mei and Nuo were now accompanied by four of their cousins, two older and two younger, in the fields while their mother tended to the housework most days.
Around this time, they finally purchased a tv. Mei, Nuo, and their cousins sat around it whenever they got the chance, watching old Kung Fu movies. The children thought it was the best thing ever. Soon they were running around in the pastures belonging to the animals and playing Kung Fu fighting. Mei and her older cousin Zhong actually became quite skilled with the martial art and took the time to seriously spar with one another on occasion.
Upon turning twelve, something very strange happened to Mei. An argument had ignited between her and her cousin over who was supposed to do what for the animals that day. When Mei pointed at him to accuse him of being lazy, a blade shot out from her wrist. The two were stunned, unsure of what exactly had just happened. Panicking, Mei held the blade at her side as to avoid hurting anybody while her aunt called her mother. Mei was informed that she was a Demon Weapon, one of many in the Yin family. Her father had been a Weapon, as were her two cousins, an uncle, and several ancestors. Mei was unsure whether she should be scared or happy, so she merely took it in stride, learning eventually how to fully transform into her Weapon form, a Jian, with her aunt’s advice. In addition, Mei’s eyesight seemed to be getting worse around this time. The family saved up so that Mei could get glasses, which she is blind as a bat without.
The good news didn’t last long, though. Mei’s mother fell ill when the girl turned fourteen. It was back to the doctors. No good news awaited them as it was found that Mei’s mother had pancreatic cancer. Two months later, Mei and Nuo were orphans. Their family once again swooped down and scooped them off, sending them to their aunt’s in a neighboring town to live with her and their four cousins. The two still worked in the fields and cared for animals. Mei was restless though. She needed more than just a change of scenery; she needed an adventure to take her mind off of her own grief. It was slowing her down and impeding her work. She waited a few years more before asking to be sent to Shibusen. Her aunt, a Weapon herself, agreed. It took another six months to scrape together enough money to send Mei to the US. During this time, the Yin family sent Mei to her cousin’s in Hong Kong for a time so she could learn English from her and become accustomed to a more urban setting. After that, she was off to Shibusen.
Extra Notes: - Mei will lapse in and out of Chinese the more nervous or angry she gets. At times she’ll just switch back to Chinese without even realizing it and then realizes the stares she’d getting is because nobody understood a damn thing she just said.
- Due to her mother and father, Mei is paranoid about the health of her friends. Cough and she is all over you checking for a fever or wheezing. She tells people to go to the doctor over a stuffy nose or allergies.
- Mei was raised in a very traditional environment, hence her nervousness about being around boys, particularly alone and unsupervised.
- Sloppy makeouts are against tradition!

Sunlight was everywhere Mei looked. She hadn’t known much of Nevada save for the fact that it was in the United States and that it was also where Death City was located. Wandering along the road leading to her new school, Mei had a small smile on her face. Walking along in the sun had to be one of her favorite things. It felt like the sky was giving her a hug with the sun’s rays beating down upon her. The Chinese girl was still getting used to being in such an urban setting, but her brief stay with her cousin in Hong Kong had definitely eased her into things. The noise would still take some getting used to, as would the closed spaces and tall buildings. Mei had seen all of maybe five cars in her lifetime prior to Death City, now they were everywhere.
Stopping at the foot of the great staircase leading up to Shibusen, Mei gawked. That was a lot of steps. How long would it take her to climb all those? The school itself was daunting as well. The building was huge, far larger than any other Mei had ever seen. Her elementary school had been a run down shack with only two rooms. Remembering that and now seeing Shibusen was a bit overwhelming for her. Taking a deep breath, Mei started up the steps. She hoped she wouldn’t be too tired once she reached the top. If working in a field all day didn’t tire her out, than what was one enormous flight of stairs? Not even halfway up the stairs Mei was beginning to doubt that though. Already she was slowing down.
Coming to a complete stop moments later, Mei rested her hands on her knees and tried to breathe. Straightening back up, she turned and looked behind her. Well, at least she was making progress. Turning her gaze upon the steps remaining in her path, Mei put a determined look on her face and started up the steps again. One foot after the other was how she would get there. As the steps whizzed by, the view of the city below expanded. Mei would have paid more attention to it if she wasn’t concerned about falling on her face. That would be bad, particularly if she lost her glasses. She’d be on the steps for hours looking for them. Or what if they fell and broke? Then she’d really be in trouble. Reaching the top of the steps at last, Mei took a deep breath and looked up at her new school. This was it. Her adventure as a Weapon began today.
