Silence hung in the air around the bookshelves. Not a lot of students were occupying the library at this time, the few that were there were scattered throughout the large room. One girl in particular sat alone at one of the study tables. Most students read books related to their classes, but since this was a large library with a lot of material, this girl was able to find the nature section. She had taken more than a few books from there and they were sitting in a stack next to her. On the other side of her was a pile of books of partnerships between Meister and Weapon, and about Soul Resonance. It was an interesting combination to say the least, and the book in front of the girl would not particularly help her in her classes. Inside was a photograph of two red pandas, the content informing the user about these creatures' sleeping and eating habits. Of course Tally read these kinds of books a million times, but she sure loves these little guys.
The hood of her red panda hoodie was lying on her shoulders for once, revealing her head of messy, dark blue hair. Her bright, hazel eyes scanned the pages, taking in all the information there was. Her fingers, barely poking out of the black sleeves of the hoodie, drummed lightly on the table. Her feet swung under the table as she hummed to herself quietly. Tally was so engrossed in her reading that she did not notice a newcomer to the library. She merely turned the page and kept reading.

The Library was a quiet place. Or at least it should have been. Unfortunately the Library was graced with the presence of Espen Vivian Losnedahl the Second this faithful day. Espen wasn’t really a loud person persay, but he certainly got bored quickly. Like right now. He was awfully bored.
He had decided to do a little bit of research in weapon forms. Why? Well, his weapon form was just a tad too big for his meister. Noelle had said she would grow. Alright, that was fine, but in the meantime why not try to see if he could size down his weapon form? That’d be neat. He wasn’t sure if such a feat was possible, but would be damned if he didn’t try.
Unfortunately flipping through all those pages had gotten boring. Sure, he had only read a few sentences, but that was more than enough to bore Espen. He ended up absentmindedly flipping through the pages, looking at pretty pictures of swords instead of reading any of the words. There were a lot of words. Too many. The repetition was boring him.
Espen let out a soft sigh before standing up and closing the book. No point bringing it with him anyway. He could ask some teacher. It probably couldn’t be done anyways. Which was a shame to be sure. Gah, did the person who invented demon weapons never think of this whole conundrum?! Erm, probably not actually, but still!
As he was about to leave, Espen caught an odd looking site. A young girl wearing what looked to be... some kinda bear hoodie or something. Gah... that was absolutely adorable! No sense gawking over that though, but Espen had paused in his stride. Whether the girl had noticed him or not he did not know, but now it’d be rude to keep on walking. ”Ah, isn’t that a bit odd to be wearing in a library?” He asked.

She blinked up from her book, taking in the stranger in front of her. She seemed to perk up from her deep thoughts from reading, leaning forward a bit and smiling. "Oh sorry 'bout that, mister. I didn't see ya there." She ran her fingers through her hair to try to smooth it, but only stuck it up in even more spikes. "I guess I was just a bit too lost in the pages. And who could blame me?" She turns the book around and lifts it up so the boy could see. "Who doesn't love reading about the cutest little creatures in the world?" She giggles, bouncing in her chair as she sets the book down. It was then that she noticed the book he held under one arm. "Oh what's that about?" She pointed at the book and smiled. Shuffling around so she was kneeling on her chair, she leaned forward, supporting herself with one hand on the table. With the other hand she slipped the book away from him. She sat down on the table crossed-legged and opened the book on her lap. The boy noticed that she had a sewn on red panda tail on the back hem of her hoodie. She made an excited noise. "A book on weapon forms! Cool!" She patted the stack next to her. "I got some research going on Soul Resonances." She blinked up at him, noting his expression, then let out another giggle. Her laughter sounded like small bells ringing. "Silly panda, where are my manners? My name's Tally. What's yours?"

Oh, this girl was absolutely adorable! She even smiled at Espen. That was nice. Espen immediately smiled back, not only because that was simply polite but because he was genuinely rather happy talking to this complete and utter stranger.
The girl turned around her book to show what was on it. Red panda picture. Why on earth was that not surprising? Espen just couldn’t fathom why... hm. Nope. No idea whatsoever... Yup, the reason was extremely obvious. Perhaps the girl was obsessed with the things? Maybe. That was funny, as Espen couldn’t recall ever even seeing the things before. Like, not in person at least. He was pretty sure he had seen them in books. Obscure. Most young girls liked kittens or something.
Espen was so lost in thought that he barely noticed the girl reach forward and grab his book until she actually had. Wah! Well, that wasn’t very nice! Espen was taken aback somewhat until he recollected himself. He fluffed the collar of his shirt and looked at the girl, trying to push away what he had just been thinking about. ”Yes it is.” He replied in his usual polite manner. He would have gone on to say why it was he was reading such books, but the girl was quick to say what it was she was reading on, other than the pandas. Resonances. Interesting. Espen should probably read up on that also. But first came making sure Noelle actually could use his weapon form correctly. This girl seemed to be even shorter than Noelle though. Perhaps she’d have an even harder time finding a partner.
The girl seemed to even refer to herself as a panda. Espen had to take a moment to blink and make sure he had heard her right. It was his eyes that were stupid, not his ears. He paused before talking again. ”My name is Espen Vivian Losnedahl the Second. It’s very nice to meet you Tally.” There was another pause as he thought of what to say next. ”Now, if you would return the book I’ll be getting out of your hair.”

She flipped through the pages of his book with a little smile on her face. Maybe it could be called a smirk. "How can you get out of my hair when you're not in it?" Her question was innocent enough, but still held enough weight. She leaned over to pat the chair next to the one she was sitting on before she moved to the table. "Com'on, Espy, have a seat." She trilled happily, smiling at the thought of his company. "Now that I think about it, I should look at a book or two on weapon forms. See, I don't have a Meister yet, but I'm pretty sure even my form would be too big, as cute and little as I am normally." She paused to flip through a couple more pages. "But at the same time, I'm worried that if I get too small, I won't be effective at all against kishin." Another page flip. "I guess the problem is I don't have a Meister, so I can't really tell what's too big and what's too small."
She looked up at Espen again and tilted her head to the side in curiousity. "You're a Weapon too right? Are you taking out this book for the same reason I should?" Without waiting for a response, she flipped to the next page. The largest grin grew on her face. "Found it! 'How to Alter the Size of your Weapon Form'." Flipping her hood up, she began reading. Then she glanced up expectantly, waiting for Espen's response.

((So so so sorry about the wait, it looks like my participated box isn’t working for this account or something.)) Espen was quickly growing wary of this conversation. Odd. He was good at putting up with people. Or at least... he was with all of the people he had so far met. Espen now realized he rarely talked to people. Welp, perhaps he best fix that. Espen wasn’t an antisocial person, but he didn’t have many chances to converse with others. Gah. ”Oh, it’s just an expression, sweetie.” Espen said to the girl’s question, doing a great job at still sounding happy enough. He wasn’t quite sure if the question was a joke or not, but whatever. The girl was then asking him to sit down, referring to him as “Espy”. Oh, great. That little pet name that irked him to no end. Formality said he couldn’t deny taking a seat like she had asked, so he (literally) bit his tongue and sat down. At least now they were talking about something that interested Espen. ”Oh, I actually got partnered with a meister a few days after first coming to Shibusen.” He said, not meaning to boast or anything like that even if he had come across like that. ”And she’s awfully tiny, so yea.” A bit later and the girl had found a book that seemed to be exactly what he needed. Wah! He had spent an eternity looking for that book, and had begun to think that it didn’t exist and here she was... Oh hell, he really wasn’t sure she was even telling the truth. Espen had adopted a bothered expression, and ended up not saying a word. ((Just so it’s clear, you actually can’t change weapon form size. ))

((Oh I'm so sorry about that I thought you could))
Tally flips through the pages, humming a merry little tune. "Hey, Espen, how did you meet your Meister?" She pulls down her hood. "Do you think you can give me tips on finding my own Meister? I've been at this school for months now, but still no luck." She pouts and if she had real panda ears, they would probably be drooping right about now. Her eyes grow round and wet, and she looks like she's on the verge of tears. "Maybe I just don't belong here." Fat tears start rolling down her cheeks and she wipes them away with her long sleeve. "I tried so very hard to make friends at this school, but maybe nobody likes me. I'm just a little kid."
"I'm sorry, Espen, but I don't know what I'm doing. Look, I lied about the research and switched the books out." Tally holds out the book to him, showing more pages filled with, of course, red pandas. "I'm so sorry I can't help you." As her sobs get louder, the other library visitors start to notice the commotion. Seeing this and remembering where they were, Tally bites her lip to muffle her sobs. Her shoulders shaking, she pulls the hood up, tugging it low over her eyes. Scooting forward, she hops off the table, hitting the ground with a thump. Her exit from the library is loud and quick, receiving many worried or annoyed looks from other students. In her rush to escape, her backpack and all her red panda books lay forgotten on the table.
Outside the library, Tally leans against the wall, sliding down to sit on the floor. Bringing her knees up to her chest, she places her forehead against her knees and cries. She was foolish to let her emotions get to her like that. She's just a kid. Well a bit too old to be considered one, but why does that matter? How can she make people happy if she just runs off crying? Riddled with self-loathing and embarressment, she just stays in the hallway, crying quietly.
