The battle on the moon ended with a standstill. With assistance from Crona and Brew the Spartoi team was able to seal the kishin Asura into another prison, this one made of black blood and covering the moon. With everyone returned to Earth changes were made. Kidd was crowned the new Shinigami and Soul was labeled the last Death Scythe. A treaty with the witches that was to last for ages was made and life went on. Spartoi was disbanded but the members knew their work wasn't over. Many went out to train and prepare for the day the prison on the moon broke.
Kidd and the Thomson sisters remained in Death City, Kim did as well to assist in healing and administer doses of her magic to Angela to curb her sway of madness. Black Star and Tsubaki travel with Angela training but stopping back at Death City for Kim to help Angela. Soul took over Justin's position as Death Scythe of Western Europe, Maka went with him to continue training.
Crona's madness lessened after a month and now only occasionally effects the world.The moon however is still an orb of black blood in the sky with the face of the old moon trapped inside.Shibusen continued as a school but now focused of hunting kishin eggs without the final goal of becoming a Death Scythe in mind. Over time this was meant to curb the appeal of witch souls for weapons and continue with the proposed peace. This lasted for six months before crumbling.
The treaty failed to account for the natural madness of the witches and expected them to not destroy people or cities. On February 14th this treaty broke in what would be known as the Valentines Day Incident.
A team from Shibusen was in Paris to celebrate the day, so were a few witches but for other motives. The desire for destruction became too much and the band of three witches began to attack the city. As people panicked the team took action and attacked the witches.Fighting as best they could the team managed to kill one of the witches and took her soul. The other two witches fled and reported to Maaba about what happened while the team did the same for Shibusen. Tensions rose and eventually broke, reviving the conflict that had lasted for centuries prior.
Shibusen reintroduced their old curriculum and witches returned to their destructive ways. Kim was labeled a traitor to the witches again and remained with Shibusen. These two forces opposing each other again but with more intensity than before. Some witches have even gone as far as using demon weapons and betraying their own kind, some stating Maaba is unfit to rule after attempting the treaty. Shibusen has recruited new students and is looking for any gifted individuals to create a new Spartoi to combat the renewed witch threat.
Meanwhile with the madness of the black blood moon above washes over the Earth many corrupted souls have begun to crawl out of the woodwork in an attempt to become the new kishin. Many unaware about Asura's status as a Shinigami but not caring. Longing for power new and old kishin alike grow stronger everyday. The looming threat of Asura's release becoming an after thought among the threats on Earth.
Shibusen, witches, and kishin all struggle for power amongst the other forces. Even unaligned groups are being brought in and joining sides.
