The gentle push that Rhett gave him made him stumble a step or two forwards. Was that really necessary? Alan would have said something if he hadn’t been feeling so guilty. Besides, he wasn’t exactly in the best position to be sassing his rescuers given that he’d made their task so difficult. He hadn’t meant to, but that was how things turned out. At least now he’d be steering clear of any abandoned supposedly haunted houses for a while now if not forever. Besides, they were in Nevada. Hunting aliens was much more fun and probably a lot easier, or at least Alan thought so at the moment.
Yeah, Rhett was right. Alan definitely owed the pale girl an apology. The wasn’t exactly sure what to say though. It wasn’t one of those situations like at school where he’d done something wrong but wasn’t sorry at all, he couldn’t just fake it and try to act cute in order to satisfy the adults. He actually felt guilty, especially since he’d made her cry. He definitely hadn’t intended to hurt her feelings. Turning his eyes away from Rhett, they landed on the girl in question as she apparently thought that an apology wasn’t necessary. She was just trying to be polite, Alan could tell. He hung his head and hunched his shoulders,
“No, it’s not alright.”
It didn’t help anything that the pale girl seemed so nice. She’d been worried for them both, not just her partner. If Alan had been in her shoes, he wouldn’t have been worried about him at all given how he’d run off all stupid-like. The pale girl was definitely too nice. Managing to lift his gaze enough to briefly look her in the eyes, Alan sighed. Well, this sucked. Not really knowing what else to do, the eight year old wandered slowly over to Lior and timidly hugged her,
“I’m sorry I hurt your feelings, and I’m really sorry that I made you cry. I didn’t mean it, I promise.”
Deciding not to push his luck, Alan let go of the pale girl and stepped back , eyes now glued to the floor again as he scratched the back of his head,
“I’m an idiot. You’re too nice to be a ghost.”
Alan wasn’t done yet, though. He felt like he should say something to Rhett too since he was the one who wound up having to chase after him down in the basement. Granted there hadn’t been too much chasing since Alan had essentially cornered himself, but that was beside the point. He’d still given them a tough time. Turn to face the Demon Screw; Alan bowed his head slightly,
“I’m sorry for making you chase after me like that, too. It was dumb of me to try and hide in the basement. Sorry for making you go down there.”
Thoroughly ashamed of himself, Alan stood between the two with a rather bashful look on his face. Peering towards the doorway that would lead to the outside world, he contemplated making a mad dash for the front door before deciding that wouldn't be polite. They'd worked this hard to find him, after all. They'd probably want to see him out just to make sure he didn't fall through the floorboards or something.
