When was the last time Aries had been to the Witches Realm? She couldn’t remember. It never changed. The dirt under her feet felt the same as ever - too packed down, too dry. Aries crouched down and shoved her hands into the earth, making fists and then outstretching her fingers, feeling the dust under her nails. The whispers murmured, unsure what to make of soil that wasn’t muddy and sticky with blood and rain.
We should move on, the whispers said as the wind blew by, making Aries’ matted hair blow around her gaunt face. She looked up, stiffened.
Someone is here, someone is here, the whispers chimed.
Aries rose to her feet, slowly, unsteadily, unfolding herself at odd angles until she was standing, bent backwards and head tilted as far up as it could to see who was coming. Catching a glimpse, Aries pulled herself up, turning around with her usual slouch that made it seem like she would fall over at any time, the way she swayed in the wind, her long straitjacket sleeves nearly brushing the ground.
Her red eyes burned, her expression slowly splitting into a grotesque picture of delight. As a general rule, the whispers disliked other witches, but it had been so long. The witch with the nice laugh visited her. Asked her things. She remembered that. Maybe this was her. Maybe it was someone else. Aries liked that witch. She smelled of blood and gold. It was almost decadent.
The air was too stale here. Aries didn't like it. It lacked mold and rotting flesh.
“We see you,” Aries chimed, grinning and showing off her foul, red-stained teeth. She took a wobbly step forward, grin widening almost to her ears. “We hear you. Bump-bump…bump-bump... Come out, come out…”

Twenty one. This marked the twenty first time Cendrine had been to this particular part of Witch City.
It was a bit funny that Cendrine kept count of these things. She didn’t keep count of how many people she had shown magic to, but she did keep count of all the places she had been. Her Grandmother had told her that Witch City was much more important than regular places, so Cendrine came to the logical conclusion that she should count each specific place, that being a street corner or any given building, in Witch City as it’s own separate thing.
Twenty one was a pretty nice number. It was a nicer number than twenty, which it had been last time she was here. And so, Cendrine was in a pretty cheery mood. To be fair, she was just about always in a cheery mood. It was a regular cheery mood, as she also knew that there were only witches here and they were no fun. Cendrine needed to be here though. She wasn’t sure why yet, but there was definitely a reason.
After some time of skipping down the path, the young witch stopped in her tracks. She saw another witch nearby, this one being mostly white in colour. The only reason that interested her was because it was such an obvious contrast to her own mostly black outfit. Cendrine normally wouldn’t have even paused when she saw a fellow witch in Witch City, as there were many, but this one seemed odd. Oh well. Cendrine had been called odd herself. No matter. The girl begun to walk onwards to wherever she was going until she heard something.
It was the other witch talking. Cendrine paused once again and cocked her head to look at the witch. She was facing the girl’s back, but was certain it was her talking. Yes, there was no one else around here! Or at least ... no one Cendrine could see.
What the witch said was funny too. She was asking something or another to come out. Well, now Cendrine was super duper curious. It couldn’t be too big of a deal for her to sait her curiosity and ask the witch directly who the hell she was talking to. Yes, that was what she’d do. ”Huh? Who ya talkin’ to?” Cendrine asked with her usual innocence. She was trying to grab the other witch’s attention. Not too difficult, since Cendrine spoke very very loudly.

She was so small, so tiny. Much smaller than Aries. Her blood smelled the same as the laughing witch, but it was sweeter. It made Aries' nose wrinkle.
The Sheep Witch moved so quickly that before the other girl could blink, Aries was standing right in front of her face, her bloodshot eyes unnaturally wide. She was crouched down so her eyes were level with the other witches eyes, but it was an unnatural stance. Aries had to arrange her 6'0" frame to contend with the 4'10" newcomer, but she was all angles. Aries looked like a predator that had just spotted a young member of the herd wander off.
Aries grabbed the girl’s face with her left hand, her fingers leaving dirt streaks on her cheeks. “We like your eyes,” she said dreamily. “They’re strange…”
Releasing her face and bringing her hand up to her own mouth, Aries tilted her head and sighed huffily. “Could we take them…? No, no,” she chastised herself, shaking her head and looking beyond the witch in front of her. “We don’t like those eyes. We don’t like…” Aries pointed at the girl’s right eye, the one that was a dark brown. “That one. We don’t need it. We don’t want it…”
She trailed off, becoming more interested in the hem of the girl’s skirt. She reached out and rubbed the fabric between her fingers, becoming quiet and absorbed in the sensation. For a long moment, she said nothing.
Suddenly, her head snapped up, her face split in a bloody grin. “We’re talking to you,” she said. “To you, to you…who are you? Who are you?”
“We don’t know her,” she said, a moment later in a lower voice.
“We don’t know her,” she added, again to herself. “Does…she know us?” Her grin dropped abruptly, and her head twisted uncomfortably to the side, her eyes staring at the new witch unblinkingly. "Does she know who we are?"

Cendrine greatly appreciated the fact that Aries had decided to bend down so she was on the same level as Cendrine. Only nice people did that. That must mean that this person was nice! Cendrine was quite happy that she didn’t have to strain her neck to look at the other witch (because stepping back a bit clearly was not an option) and smiled as brightly as she could.
That was until suddenly her face was grabbed. Cendrine did not like that very much. However, she didn’t back away because the witch was still nice. If she wasn’t nice she wouldn’t have bent down like that. Plus then the witch went on to compliment her eyes. ”Oh, thanks!” Cendrine said, smiling once again. Her hair must have been funny today. Normally it covered her red eye.
The other witch’s hands had felt funny, though. Cendrine brought a hand to her cheek and noticed dirt there. Oh. That was it, then. She didn’t seem to care enough to try to rub it off. She could do such later.
The nice witch was odd. She retracted her comment about Cendrine having nice eyes. Aw, why? Was she going to be like Enya with saying how ugly her eyes were? That wasn’t very... nice.
Cendrine wasn’t sure if she liked this witch anymore. Didn’t help things that she now seemed interested in Cendrine’s dress. It was a bit... weird? Was that the right word? Cendrine could have sworn there was another word, one someone had used to describe her once. Even so, she couldn’t remember it.
The witch then snapped back to look at Cendrine and the poor little witch almost jumped out of her skin. Was she scared? This was weird. Cendrine hadn’t felt scared in a long time. Anyways, the witch was asking who Cendrine was. Probably. She wasn’t quite sure, because the witch seemed to be talking as if she was two people. So weird.
”I’m Cendrine.” She said, sounding as if she was forcing herself to sound chipper. ”What’s your name?”

“Cendrine…Cendrine…” Aries echoed, rolling the name around and enjoying how it sounded. She whispered it again, over and over, a soft murmer that made her smile. After a moment, her mind took hold of Cendrine’s question and
“Name…?” Aries tilted her head, so much that she had to arrange her shoulders to contend with the angle. She looked like she was thinking, and after a moment, she smiled in confusion, like she was trying very hard to remember something long forgotten.
“Aries…?” She said, finally. “Am I…Aries? Yes…” She put the tips of her fingers to her lips, eyes focusing sharply. “Aries is the name they gave me, and so Aries I am.” She straightened her posture, unfolding herself, never moving from her crouch.
Putting her hand up to Cendrine’s cheek once more, she let her hands ghost over the younger witch’s face before returning to fold over her knees. “My, but you’re pretty,” she murmured, a dreamy look on her face. “One I don’t know. Cendrine…” Aries looked thoughtful and, for once, lucid, taking in the small girl before her.
Aries barely came to the Witches Realm, half because she was never in a state of mind to get there in the first place, but half because she was off-putting, even among her fellow witches. Today had been a good day for her. She was more grounded and sane than usual, her bouts of lucidity more frequent that day. Then again, she had killed more people than usual that week. The blood had soaked into her hands and feet, and even the dirt covering them couldn’t hide the dried brown stains on her skin.
“Maybe you can help me,” she said, her expression dangerously soft. “I’m looking for someone.”

That was weird. Did this witch not know her name? Well, that didn’t surprise Cendrine too much, actually. Witches were old. And, if it hadn’t been mentioned in a while, it WOULD be possible to forget one’s own name, surely. But, wasn’t a name too important to forget? Enya called Cendrine Sonja, but Cendrine called Cendrine Cendrine. So did Annikha until she left. And... honestly Cendrine preferred herself and Annikha to Enya.
Regardless, eventually the witch decided on what her name was. Aries, huh? Cendrine didn’t think that was a common name, but she had heard it before. Just like she had met someone with her own name before. That had been neat. Cendrine wasn’t the type to forget people’s names.
Cendrine was a bit curious what Aries met by “they”, but she figured it wasn’t important. Probably just someone like Annikha who gave Cendrine her name. Or even Enya, who gave Cendrine an entirely different name. Though, hadn’t Enya said something about “Sonja” being Cendrine’s original name?
Eh. Probably didn’t matter.
Lost in thought, Cendrine didn’t have enough time to step back so Aries wouldn’t grab her cheek again. Gah, Cendrine didn’t like that one bit. But... then Aries went on to say she was pretty. Perhaps this witch was nice? She wasn’t like Zuri. Zuri was the nicest. At least, the nicest witch Cendrine knew.
Aries then went on to say that she was looking for someone. Oh, looking for someone? Cendrine had lost a lot of people she had cared about before herself. Well, actually, “lost” was the wrong word. They had always been there, Cendrine had just left them because they stopped talking. That happened after they grew tired of Cendrine’s magic, so it was okay. She just moved on to the next person.
”Uhuh, I’ll help.” Cendrine really didn’t have anything better to do, and she wasn’t the type to turn down a direct request for help. ”Who’s this ‘someone’?”
