Today was a day off from school! No classes so she didn’t need to pick Sebastian up from the library! Instead, she decided that she would hang out with him all day long. It wasn’t until around noon that she got both herself and Sebastian off of school grounds. Today’s aim was to go to the shopping district. Back in California she loved to take him to the beach. The sand, swimming, people, beach shops… It was all the best. Here, she had to take what she could get. Down in the shopping district of Death City there were so many different shops! Sure, they weren’t the shops of Italy or the beaches of Cali, but they were the shops of their new home! First stop on their weekend adventure? The ice cream shop of course! It was always delightful to have a sweet and cold treat on a hot day. Which was every day here! Picking through the many flavors, wondering which ones would make the best matches, what toppings she should get, getting a taste from the little tiny spoons! Ice cream shops were the best! After much thoughtful deliberation, and letting countless customers get their ice cream ahead of her and Sebastian, she finally decided on her concoction! Orange Sherbert and Pink Bubblegum Ice Cream. Marshmallow topping. And rainbow sprinkles! With of course whipped cream and a cherry on top. A large grin on her face as she got the good sized dish of her treat, she headed outside the shop. They had to eat outside. Niina would definitely never let Sebastian leave the shop without his own ice cream in hand, so they both left the shop to go outside. Back into the heat, no ice cream shop was complete without little tables just outside the door, umbrellas overhead. Taking a seat at one of the tables, she girl giggled quietly as she stirred the ice cream and toppings with her spoon. “How do you like everything so far? Have you met anyone? You’re not hiding anyone from me are you?” A light grin on Niina’s face as she shot the questions out at her friend, she then plopped a large serving of mixed up goop into her mouth. This successfully shut her up for a few seconds so that he could attempt a reply. Genuine joy on her face, she waited for anything he might say. Always interested and what he thought and really hoping he wanted to stay. “I know you might not like it here but… I think it’ll be good for us. A light in the darkness?” Plopping another spoonful of ice cream into her mouth after these words too, the smile didn’t falter from her face. She was glad that he was here. Even if he wasn’t into the people and talking and caring and ice cream and…. all the wonderful things about life. She wanted to try to make him happy.

A peaceful day, no classes today, so the school would be almost empty of other students to bother him. Ff course Sebastian was at the library where he spent almost all of his time and today he was looking forward to just being left alone all day, but that wasn't in the card for him today. Niina had other plans for him. She had her mind set on going shopping with Sebastian even though he thought it was a complete waste of time but whatever Niina says goes, and so he was dragged out of the library and they were off to the shopping district.
As they headed to the shopping district Sebastian couldn't help but noticed what Niina was wearing. It was, different to say the least, some one of her age should be dressed somewhat more appropriate, but since she was supposed to be in her "teens" Sebastian didn't make any remark towards her outfit, after all they were trying to "Blend in". Still he couldn't take his eyes off her outfit, he kept trying to figure out why this style? Next thing you know Niina had dragged him into the ice cream shop.
Trying to give off a irritated sounding voice Sebastian said "Again, you know I never want to get any ice cream, what makes you think this time will be different". But of course Niina wanted him to get ice cream so he had too. Just plain vanilla, no toppings or anything just all by itself in a cup with a spoon. Before you know it the two were using the table outside, both of Sebastian's hand were on the table and his ice cream just sat there, un-touched melting in the sun.
Just like any two normal people out, here came the questions.
“How do you like everything so far? Have you met anyone? You’re not hiding anyone from me are you?” Niina asked
"What's the point of meeting people, just a matter of time before were leaving again, like before, it's not like I'll feel anything for them anyways" Sebastian replied with piercing eyes looking towards Niina.
Then Niina made a remark “I know you might not like it here but… I think it’ll be good for us. A light in the darkness?”
Sebastian remained quiet for a moment, then using his right hand he picked up the spoon that was in his ice cream, as he held it over the bowl the melted vanilla just dripped down into the bowl, then looking at Niina with a emotionless face he replied.
"How is this good for us, were surrounded by people who would take your soul in a instant if they found out who you are." Putting his ice cream spoon back in the bowl and just staring at the melted ice cream, he closed his eyes. "You know if they found out I won't be able to protect you from all of them, I'm strong, but not that strong" and without realizing it, Sebastian was clenching his fists

How could someone complain about ice cream?
Niina never stopped thinking that he might just be teasing her about the whole thing. Every time they got it, it was like a full out battle. Get some ice cream! Please! A cute smile, a few fluttering eyelashes, and eventually he gave in. Really, she assumed it was to get her to stop being obnoxious, but whatever accomplished the task.
And there it was melting again. The precious treat that she adored. Turning into a lukewarm soup in his bowl. The pout on her lips was obvious as she took the moment to mourn the forgotten wonderfulness. It would never truly be appreciated in his hands. But she would never give up!
She asked him about people, about school. Did he like it? Dislike it? And of course, she got a grumpy gills answer. Laughing quietly, she returned his piercing gaze with a joyous smirk and gleeful eyes. Always the downer. The two were quite a pair to see sitting outside the ice cream shop.
“The point is to try. It’s like training to get better. The more you do something, the better you get at it. This works with forming relationships too.”
A grin on her face, she tapped her own spoon against her bowl as she attempted to word her next few sentences. The smile never faltered, she didn’t take her eyes off her companion, but he was so wrong. Like always.
“Life is about change. But you gotta be like a sea critter. Move and flow with the waves!”
Laughing at her own words, she plopped a bit of melted goo into her mouth. Looking downright delighted at the swirl of taste, she locked in on what he said next. No longer looking at her, lost in that crazy world of his. How did he even think? How could you have so many thoughts without feelings?
He was worried. Her eyes growing a little bit larger, she looked almost proud of him. And also like she might cry tears of joy. Worry meant he cared about her right? Though this ‘crying’ look was short-lived, for she laughed again. It was just so silly! Why worry so much?
“That’s also part of life! Just because there’s a threat of death doesn’t mean you should stop doing the things you’re meant to do.”
Shaking her head, she finished it off with a little eye roll and a quick giggle.
“Besides, I don’t think they’re all out to get me. I’ve made a few friends and I think I’ve found a partner!”
Dropping her spoon in her dish, her right hand reached across the table. She meant to cover his hand in hers, try to release some of the tension.
“Out of all the things you do and don’t feel, worry is an awful one to pick. Why not a more positive one? Like, you enjoy the library and books, right?”
And encouraging grin on her face, she hesitated a moment more before she moved to pull her hand back and finish devouring her treat.
