After taking on their third mission and becoming two stars it was clear that Dion and Misaki needed to get stronger for what was coming up. Elmer would have been a problem if not for their resonance and even then the after effects were a bother to deal with. If they didn’t finish off a kishin egg in one go of resonance they would have a hell of a time fighting after, so the simple option was to just get better! Going through a pseudo redo of when they first learned their resonance would be fun and help them kick more ass!
Obviously the forest was the best location with so many trees to take down but now that they knew how awesome their resonance was it only made sense to do it at night. Lacking a teacher this time Misaki was in charge of getting food for the picnic practice so Dion had done the natural thing and said he would bring a mat for it. Now if only Dion had such a mat things would have been easier but instead his day had been running around Death City looking for a stupid giant blanket. It was a plain gray but after not being able to find any it would do.
His search ended as the sun began to dip lower in the sky which worked out perfectly. In no rush he headed toward the forest and the soon to be defeated trees. During the walk Dion zoned out and his thoughts moved back to how he had gotten to the clearing they practiced in the first time. It had been a while and the exact path was fuzzy for him but after a bit of thinking he thought he had the basic idea. When he refocused his attention back to what he was doing to forest was in front of him with all its leafy malice.
Heading into the forest Dion went off of memory as best he could trying to find the clear patch that worked so well for training last time. After a few minutes the trees grew less dense and a patch of tall grass was spread out before him. The sky was mostly covered by the tree tops spanning out above them but one spot was apparently broken open. Following the spot down Dion’s eyes saw the cause and a grin spread on his face. Walking toward the downed tree he stopped away from the trunk but still under the opening and spread the blanket out.
With that taken care of it only took a little bit longer to find some rocks and branches to weigh down the blanket and everything was good! Heading out the way he came Dion kept the path in mind and exited the forest to wait for his meister. With the sun falling lower and the sky taking on the colors that came with sunset it wouldn’t be much longer. To pass the time Dion perched on one of the entrance trees and hung upside down with his partial form.

Two stars meant tougher missions, which meant some serious training was in order. Well, serious was one way to put it, and also completely accurate. But Misaki thought of it as being more fun than that. She could handle Dion’s Weapon form spectacularly, and of course they had torn through all of their enemies with a certain amount of skill. But Elmer was more than Misaki anticipated, she would admit that much. Compared to their first two One star missions, he was one tough pony, and without their resonance would’ve taken much longer and likely resulted in more injury to her given her leg still hadn’t fully healed. She also wouldn’t have gotten to say her awesome line for the killing blow, or rather killing blast courtesy of Dion. Regardless of now headless horses, they needed to up their antics. Their opponents were only going to get stronger, and now there may be even more of them to each mission. The prospect of battling two or even three maddened souls either separately or even at once got Misaki all fired up, but that would have to wait. They would need to be at their best if they were to succeed in such situations, and currently their best needed some bettering. While Misaki was positively brimming with energy to get starting in their training, she had another job to attend to first. Since she and Dion more than had the how-to’s of soul resonance down, there would be no teacher present like last time. That being said, it was now her turn to pack snacks in case they got hungry. Training on an empty stomach was no good. Misaki had given it some thought, though, considering last time Dion had no clue as to how to use chopsticks. While she’d taken him out for ramen afterwards and taught him, she had no idea how much of that knowledge he had actually retained. So, just to make sure, she was bringing chopsticks and forks, and food that could be eaten with or without chopsticks. Misaki didn’t go too overboard, granted shape-wise she had been a perfectionist. Sandwiches cut into perfect triangles, onigiri filled with either salmon or pickled plums, octopus hotdogs, a bottle of water for each of them, and some steamed vegetable which she assumed would likely be eaten mostly by her. They’d been partners for what felt like forever, Misaki knew by now that Dion subsisted on mainly pizza, monster, and mountain dew. But after she got all of the food packed up into proper containers she stacked up in a small tote bag, it was time for her to set out and find Dion since he’d left a tad earlier while she was still getting everything ready. Misaki left the apartment with an extra skip in her step – literally. Her leg was feeling all healed up, granted she’d been limping all the way to their ride and all the way through the airport after their last mission but hey, after effects sucked like that. Hopefully after this training session, that would all be much less! As Misaki neared the forest and turned onto the next street over on her way, she began thinking of the other thing that needed to happen. Or rather, the thing that she specifically needed to do before it got out of hand. Just thinking about it made her panic slightly, a little jolt of cold fear dropping into her heart that she chased away with a shake of her head. Misaki didn’t want to think about it…but she needed to. They would be alone, just the two of them, going into a state of mind that brought them incredibly close to begin with. Even if she didn’t say anything, Dion would likely know something was up just with how her feelings for him could affect her wavelength. Misaki paused at a crosswalk, tapping her foot impatiently waiting for the light to change. She was considering legging it across and just vaulting any coming cars but she saw green flicker on and continued, on noting the sun beginning to dip lower in the sky. She needed to get it off her chest. If she held it in, it could potentially cause problems. Better to get it out there and then get over it if things didn’t go well than to sit and stew about things that may not even happen. Misaki was going to confess to Dion, and she was going to confess tonight or kick herself all the way home. But training would come first. Misaki loved Dion, but their new rank as Two stars took priority. Misaki adjusted her grip on the bag, breathing deeply as she neared the familiar entry that came into view as trees grew into her line of site as well. She cleared her mind, focused on the task at hand. Her feet hit the dirt trail and she paused to take a look around. Where in the world is h - of course he would. Misaki’s eyes landed on Dion hanging upside down on one of the trees at the near front. She rolled her eyes but Misaki couldn’t stop the grin on her face. She may have known. With Dion so close she decided to let him come to her, hoisting the bag in the air and waving it slightly. “Hey Spidey, what’s hangin’?”

Watching the sun set from upside-down was always a fun thing to do while waiting. Dion stood with his feet firmly against a branch and the speartips from his feet anchoring him into the tree. His shoes had seen better days but at least they were here for training anyway so a set of holes in them wasn’t that big of a problem. Keeping his hands in the pockets of his hoodie all that was left to do was wait until Misaki showed up. With his hair being the victim of gravity and leaving both his eyes uncovered spotting her shouldn’t be a difficult thing.
It didn’t take long before his meister appeared and they could get started. Staying where he was while she approached Dion didn’t move until she waved and addressed him. Raising a hand in a pseudo wave back he gave a grin before deactivating his partial and falling from the branch. Correcting himself in the air with a flip he landed on his feet but from such a small distance it wasn’t worth making a big deal about. After his landing he walked over to his partner and returned his hands to their rightful place in his pockets.
”Not much anymore. I did find the best spot to train though.”
Motioning for her to follow him Dion headed into the forest along the path he had taken initially. Pretty clear for the most part it was just a matter of walking along the path and not walking into any low branches. After a while of walking along the path the trees started to thin out and spread farther apart from the path. Shortly after the trees started to disperse the path opened up and the two found themselves in the clearing.
Heading toward the center of the clearing Dion faced the downed tree from last time before coming to a stop. Lifting his arms up parallel to his shoulders he turned around to face Misaki with a grin before dropping his hands to his sides.
”So what do you want to do first?”

Being able to see both of Dion’s eyes always struck Misaki as odd if only because it almost never happened. The first time she’d even seen his right eye was during their fight and she really would rather not think about that clusterfuck of misunderstanding anymore. It happened, they had moved past it, and it was time to kick some ass.
Grinning a bit more out of reflex when he saw her, Misaki returned the wave. Once she got a bit closer he actually jumped down from the tree, not that it was much of a jump. He hadn’t been that high up which surprised her a little, but then maybe if he was higher up she wouldn’t have seen him. Either way, his claim had her tilting her head. “Did you? I can’t wait to see it then.” Hoisting the bag over her head, Misaki jumped once and held it slightly outward. “Lead on!”
Misaki followed Dion into the woods, sticking closer than she probably needed to and glancing around at the trees around them. For the most part she was looking to memorize where the path was and what it passed so she could easily return in the future, but she was also already beginning to wonder just how many trees they would be slaying that evening. Given how powerful their resonance already was, and how awesome it was about to become, she could only guess that a good patch of trees would be cleared out once they were done and ready to head home. The thought brought an actual smile to her face, but once they hit the clearing it morphed back into the wicked grin she usually wore.
Dion paused in the middle of the clearing, and Misaki followed his gaze to see why. Her eyes lit up when she saw the tree they’d slain last time. Nudging Dion with her elbow a few times, she looked up at him and told him in a clearly overjoyed tone of voice, “You weren’t kidding, this really is perfect!” Turning her eyes back on the sad looking stump of a tree, Misaki place her free hand on her hip and shook her head. “Man, we really did a number on that thing last time, eh? The other trees better be scared if they know what’s up, because we’re gonna slay a lot more this time, aren’t we?”
At her Weapon’s question, Misaki didn’t waste time with thinking over her answer. She knew exactly what she wanted to do first and was surprised that Dion even had to ask. Grinning up at him, she rocked back on her heels. “Training of course! I want to fire up our resonance and see what we can pull off now that we’ve come this far!” Misaki moved forward towards the setup Dion had laid out to set the bag down beside it for the moment. It would only get in the way after all if she held onto it, not that she couldn’t fight with it slung over her shoulder if she needed to. But her ability to fight with a back full of good food wasn’t what they were working on. Once it was out of the way she hurried back to Dion’s side. Resisting the urge to bounce up and down on her heels, Misaki managed to restrain her excitement for the moment and held out her hand to Dion, saying the old.
“Shall we dance?”

With Misaki behind him it was a simple matter of keeping to the path and making it back to the clearing. Besides the obvious anticipation to get to resonance training Dion wanted to see Misaki’s reaction to the training spot. It didn’t take much time for the two to make their way through the forest and end up in the clearing at the end of the path. Looking at the downed tree from their previous resonance training Dion turned to face Misaki when the nudging started. Well of course it was perfect, but it could be better with more downed trees.
”All the other trees should be shaking in their roots, at least while they still have them.”
Her answer was exactly what he expected to hear. Matching his grin to her own he stayed where he was while she went to drop off her bag. He was excited to see what they could do as well after the last mission. Plus now they had the title of two star team to defend so they had to be more awesome. No doubt they could do even more now that they understood how the resonance worked, it was just a matter of seeing how much more they could pull off.
When she got back it was time to begin the fun! Seeing her hand reach out was all the sign he really needed but he waited until she got her words in. He could tell she was excited and he was as well so there was no reason to prolong the waiting. Extending his hand he placed it on top her hers so he could give his response.
”Of course.”
Letting the green light encase him Dion’s body distorted and transformed into the shorter version of his weapon form. The green light shifted from the shape of a human into the cylindrical shaft of the spear. Once it had finished forming the light broke and left the simple black color of his weapon form. With the transformation complete Dion’s form sprung open into the full six feet of his weapon form as he prepared for the forthcoming resonance. Instead of going into his soul like he was used to Dion remained in the simple darkness of his weapon form and prepared for the synchronizing of wavelengths.

There was a flash of green light followed by the familiar weight of Dion’s Weapon form in her hand. Grinning as three feet turned into six, Misaki switched over to holding onto the spear with both hands. Unable to resist the draw of the dramatic, she jabbed a few times at the air before her, spun around to swing back. She tossed the spear up in the air, caught it and spun it around. Misaki pivoted on her heels one last time before standing with her feet apart. She held the Demon Spear out in front of her with both hands at arms-length, an eager look set into her features. “Here we go!”
Misaki let her focus go into the resonance like always. Her Pulse Wavelength required a bit of finesse, but she knew by now that Dion could more than handle it. She let her wavelength reach out to his, let it flow and trusted him to reach back, start the synchronization and have it end in a whole lot of bright, pointy, and lethal. She became more and more aware of her partner’s wavelength in addition to hers, the familiar motion of the two traveling back and forth and back and forth filling her with anticipation. The link grew stronger, all of her pent up excitement and eagerness readily apparent alongside an understandable amount of smugness. She may have been able to hold back her feelings for Dion except she wasn’t paying attention. Training was her focus, and for now she paid no mind to such things. She could feel the power drawing closer and closer and then it hit her all at once when they reached that peak.
The familiar teal glow appeared and better illuminated the immediate space of the clearing around them under the dying light of day. Misaki watched Dion’s Weapon form change into that of their resonance, an ambitious look settling on her face with an accompanying smirk. The pulse of power hitting her filled her to the brim with energy, the familiar feeling of having boundless energy. Misaki felt invincible, but with their resonance going they may as well be. Properly ready to go, Misaki hopped once, twice, and twirled the spear before her once again before looking out to the trees. “Alright,” she called out, “Who’s first?”
They had many a target to choose from. Misaki wondered just how well their resonance could cut through the thicker trees awaiting them.

It only took a moment before the emptiness of the darkness was broken by the familiar wavelength of Misaki. Feeling her grip him with both hands he watched the forest around them as the volley of movements transpired. Jabs were the most efficient way to make use of his weapon form and using the full length to full effect was ideal. Thinking about the practicality was something two stars did right? Either way the mock combat moves served to pump him up more and further align their wavelengths. Tossing him in the air wasn’t that practical but it was awesome so it was just as important.
When he heard Misaki speak his focus returned to the matter of wavelengths and he prepared for what was about to happen next. He was used to being in his soul when activating a resonance where things were more visual but even as he was there was an incoming mass of blue headed toward him. Following the motions he was used to Dion waited for the light to reach him before matching it with his wavelength and sending it back. The brightness lessened but the power increased along with the speed. Back and forth the energy bounced and grew as their souls synchronized and resonated.
As they grew closer to reaching the point that was needed to for resonance the wavelength brought more with it. He could feel the excitement she was feeling which only managed to heighten his own. It also made it more obvious that there was something off about her wavelength that he hadn’t noticed before. Was it because their resonance had gotten stronger and he could feel more of her soul now? It was strange but not the most important thing at hand. Trees had to die and that trumped everything else!
Uniting their souls they reached resonance and the energy was released. Dion was covered by the teal glow to fight against the orange of the sunset. Making use of the combined energy his weapon form changed into the bladed form that was perfect for killing trees and horses, and other kishin egg things too. Feeling his energy mixed with Misaki’s energy and that of the resonance it was about time to chop through some overgrown sticks! The only question he could think of was echoed by Misaki as he thought of it. Out of all the willing participants who would get to be the first winner?
”Go for a big one, we gotta show them who is in charge here.”
Dion couldn’t wait to see what arbor atrocity Misaki picked and even more so to have his blade pass through it. After they got the first strike in it was just a matter of going all out to see what they could accomplish.

Misaki missed the feeling of so much power pulsing through her veins. They had only just decapitated that sorry excuse for a Ponyta with it, yet here she was just as excitable for it. Maybe it was the rush, maybe it was the connection. Maybe it was a little bit of both. Either way, she was ready raring to go awaiting Dion’s answer which came soon enough as she bounced back and forth putting her weight into one foot then the other. The grin on her face wasn’t going anywhere anytime soon, and with any luck neither was the energy.
Go big or go home, it seemed. Misaki was more than on board with the idea. “You got it!” she proclaimed excitedly. The choice was left to her which only left the process of elimination. The scrawny ones posed no challenge at all, why they’d burst into splinters on impact if they hit them right. Maybe they could blast right through them later, see if they could take out one of the little clusters. The vast majority of the trees were tall enough, but mostly average in terms of how thick their trunks were. But as Misaki slowly turned and scanned the area with a distressing amount of mischief in her eyes, she spotted the perfect targets.
A very tall, very thick trees stood not near but not far to the left. Reaching branches and leaves dyed darker shades than were truthful under the setting sun. From a distance, Misaki judged that there was at least eight feet for them to cut through. The wicked grin she wore only intensified with the anticipation. “Target sighted,” she chimed as she adjusted her grip on the Demon Spear. She held on mainly with her right hand, keeping the left loose and higher along the shaft knowing she would change her grip again once they were closer.
And then Misaki took off running across the clearing. At full speed ahead with all that added boost, they were only feet away in no time. Misaki switched her hands around, one set at the middle with the other gripping the base. She skidded to a halt with her left leg extended out in front of her, the other set firmly for her to rock back on once they stopped. It helped her put more force into the attack as she drew the Demon Spear back and then swung with all her might, grinning at the sound of their resonance slicing through wood and bark.
The resounding groan and shaking of branches and leaves as the tree fell sent a thrill thought Misaki. She leapt backwards a ways just in case to avoid any branches that detached and came crashing down. A few leaves scattered gracefully about her, but those she didn’t mind since they wouldn’t hurt her. Grinning like a fool as the arbor hit the ground; she hopped once and turned on her heel, grasping the Demon Spear with one hand to hold over her shoulder. Misaki grinned at their surroundings.
“Who’s next, then?”

With so many trees around them Dion wasn’t sure what would be the best to use their resonance on. Obviously it had to be something that would be fun to cut through but with so many options the possibilities were endless. Hearing that Misaki had spotted a target brought Dion’s attention to the trees she was looking toward. With the change of her grip it was easy enough to figure out what tree she was talking about. A good choice, as was to be expected, with Misaki headed for it Dion waited for the incoming meeting between blade and bark.
It was already over as soon as the blade touched the tree. Coated in wavelength the blade of the spear passed through the tree without any resistance. Misaki moved back and Dion watched as the tree realized what had happened and began to fall. Branches snapping and leaves scattering the body was overcome with gravity and rushed to meet the ground. Such a shame it couldn’t work against gravity like he could but it was a tree and not nearly awesome enough to do such a thing. With the first tree taken care of Misaki’s question was right, who would be next?
Looking around there were so many potential targets it was hard to pick the lucky winner. Thinking about what they had to practice helped lower it down a bit. Cutting through that tree was almost effortless and it had been similar for the actual kishin egg they had used the resonance on. While it was nice to be able to slash through things it was only one part of the whole resonance. With all the larger trees around surely one would be great to help with something different.
”Find another big one but stab it this time, with a nice blast at the end.”
Testing out the blast was probably the best thing they could do now. Clearly cutting through anything was far too easy for them if the tree and Elmer were anything to go off of.

Misaki scanned the area around them for their next arborous victim. So many trees, so little time. And with more than one way to execute them! Cuts, blasts, slashes. Enough to terrify any bark covered adversaries surrounding them, obviously with good reason. The first has gone down easily; the other obviously would never stand a chance. Misaki tapped her foot against the grass, narrowing her eyes as she took a look around, considering targets and methods. It was difficult to choose, but thankfully Dion was there to help her with that. At his suggestion Misaki gave a nod and a grin. “Sounds good to me.”
She looked the area over again, bypassing all withery looking things. Thin branches and easily bent trunks were no good as test subjects. Hell, she could probably Soul Purge have the thickness out of one of those no probably, their resonance would outright destroy them. Medium was no good either, they needed big trees that meant business. Branches big enough to climb on and trunks that were thick enough to make it difficult to accomplish such a task without adequate jumping ability or a boost up. A tall one that stood out from the rest of the crowd.
Her eyes landed on one a fair distance away, but not by much. Enough to warrant a running start but not as far off as the first had been. She could reach it in no time, and then the fireworks could begin! Okay maybe fireworks wasn’t quite the right word in terms of description but it was close enough. Blast, explosion, close enough in definition and execution that Misaki could discard the thought and focus more on the task at hand: search and destroy. The search part was over. Now came the destroying part.
Misaki lifted the spear away from her shoulder and held it with both hands, her grin widening. “Perfect.” She nodded in the direction of the clear target, definitely wide enough to present at least a slight amount of a challenge and tall enough to make some noise as it fell. Holding Dion at her side, she started off at a run again, heading straight towards it and once again stopping just short with her left foot extended slightly in front of her. She rocked back on her right and held the spear horizontal to her side, focusing their combined wavelength into the blade of the spear towards the tip until it took on a brighter glow.
Misaki rammed the spear into the tree and watched the released energy blast straight into it. Bark snapped and peeled in a futile attempt to flee. Splinters shot out into the air, thankfully none sticking to her and merely ricocheting off of her. The sound of released wavelength was followed once again by the groaning of a tree in its death throes. It creaked, leaned; fell with the shuddering of leaves and satisfying sound of snapping branches on its way down. Misaki snickered and jumped up and down before raising Dion in the air. “Now that’s what I’m talkin’ about! Hell yes!”

Misaki agreed with his suggestion so now it was just a matter of waiting to see what lucky tree got the pointy end of the spear. They had to find a good tree that would take the attack well enough. Lots of small tree wannabes were scattered around but they were just in the way. As great as it would be to destroy them before they grew up to full evil it would be a waste of their resonance. If Misaki’s actions were any indication she found a good target to test on. When she started to move Dion’s excitement grew as they moved closer.
As they approached the tree he felt their wavelengths shifting and gathering at the tip of the spear. Obviously that was going to happen but it was good seeing Misaki control the flow of wavelengths on her own. Being able to manage the wavelength was useful for him and could be a good surprise against smarter enemies but knowing that she could direct them herself was ideal for attacks. The next kishin they got to fight would be lucky to come out in one piece instead of just becoming splatter on a wall.
Predictably the tree never stood a chance. If they tried the stab itself probably could have taken it down but the blast was super overkill. Bark fled the rest of the tree hastily while the rest couldn’t decide what direction was best to fly in. Piercing a hole through the tree that expanded to just split it in two. Not nearly as clean as the first tree but the results were the same, one more tree dead on the forest floor. Hearing the rest of the tree snap and shatter as it fell was almost as satisfying as blasting the tree down in the first place.
”That’s exactly what!”
Projecting his excitement to his meister directly to her thoughts Dion focused on the energy and what to do next. Clearly they could take on any tree in the forest with how amazing they were but that was like finding a tourist near the Empire State Building, way too easy. What they needed was to make sure they knew what they could do and how far they could go.
”I think we confirmed our dominance to the trees. How about practicing general stuff, get the basics down and see how long we can keep it up. ”

Between spinning around in a circle and giggling quietly to herself, Misaki heard Dion’s suggestion on their next task. She paused and held the Demon Spear over one shoulder at a slight angle, giving a curt nod and grinning like a fox. “Sounds good to me.” Very good, in fact. The fun factor was huge, but the need for practice was as well. On their first go with their resonance they’d lasted mere minutes just trying to reach that meeting of souls, and it had knocked them both silly. Their second mission hadn’t needed it, and their execution of Elmer via glowing blades had been awesome. But again, they hadn’t used it for very long, even if the side effects had felt less from another use.
They hadn’t had a good opportunity to see how long their resonance could last before they had to tap out. Misaki assumed long enough at their current skill level, but in her mind they didn’t need that long. Not with that much badass slicing ability and a few of those shattering blasts. They’d plow through anything that got in their way! She and Dion would wreck their enemies, but then again more time to do that would be necessary eventually. Like now. Two Star meant a whole new level of fuckery to behold in their opponents. Time would be of the essence.
Misaki couldn’t wait.
With a shift of her hold on the Demon Spear, Misaki tossed him over her head and caught him on the way back down. Theatrics would always be a part of the fight with her. They were mandatory to show off how great they truly were. Giggling and with a wicked grin on her face, Misaki drew back a bit in preparation to rush the arbors around them. Not nearly enough had succumbed to them yet. “Let’s see what we can do!”
She was off and running with her little declaration. The next nearest tree warranted a brief pause with Misaki switching to hold Dion with both hands in order to successfully swing and slice right through it. Bringing the Demon Spear back around in one fluid motion, she picked up the pace and rushed the next one. Part of a smaller cluster, she decided to see if she couldn’t put a little more flair into taking them out in succession. Moving to one side, she held the Demon Spear at opposite ends in her hands and made an upward arc with the blade to cut the pathetic wisp of a tree in the middle.
Next up: its neighbors. To her immediate right was another, and Misaki spun to made a short stabbing motion straight through it. Forward were three that were just too tempting. Grinning, Misaki sped along and once again changed how she held Dion. Left hand at one end, right hand firmly in the middle. Swiftly turning to one side, she held the Demon Spear tightly and ran alongside the line of three, sweeping the blade straight through them one by one to make them fall. Skidding to a stop, Misaki paused just to listen to the falling leaves and dull thuds of falling wood and snapping of branches. Taking a glance around, she held Dion out in front of her, contemplating her next move. “Any more requests?” she asked, “Or should I continue operation tree killing spree?”

It was clear Misaki had the technical aspect down so Dion focused on what might help. It was difficult not knowing the exact limits they could reach with the resonance but no better time to find out. The only real problem was that the trees might as well already be paper with how much resistance they were giving them. Slicing through more of them was about the same as just swinging him through the air. Unfortunately it was the best way to train that they had short of fighting another kishin egg and getting some real experience.
Letting his focus drift away from the tree massacre Dion’s attention targeted the wavelength of the resonance. It seemed to be acting fine so the resonance ending didn’t seem to be an immediate threat. Feeling Misaki’s soul he picked up on her excitement about what was to come along with two stare missions and couldn’t help but share the feeling. After Elmer it would be fun to see what sort of things two star missions offered. With the connection between souls that was soul resonance Dion lost focus on what Misaki was doing. Cutting through trees or air was nearly the same to him as he felt the movement of his weapon form.
Hearing Misaki’s words brought him out of the souls enough to regain his focus on what was going on. The best thing they could do would be to see how long they could maintain the resonance but that could be done while practicing something else. Thinking about it for a moment there had to be something to work on in the meantime. Hit with an idea he voiced his thoughts to his meister.
”The trees don’t even register at this point, and basic attacks are no problem. Don’t worry about the trees but try more complex attacks. Can’t let the shape change stop any awesome stunts from happening.”
As long as the resonance held it was worth trying out all they could. Who knew if something would be able to dodge or somehow even block a simple attack from them like this in two star. As unlikely as it seemed it was better to be ready, plus it would be more fun!

Now that she thought about it, Dion had a point. Thinking back to the other times they’re resonance had been active and how she’d attacked with the alternative form of the spear, the motions she put them through were fairly simple. Tragic, really. She needed to do better. She was the one in the active role, it was her job to make sure they looked as awesome as possible given she was the one wielding the Weapon. Making sure they didn’t get killed was also important, but victory meant little to Misaki without a touch of theatrics. Dion no doubt felt the same.
Misaki grinned, giving a short laugh before answering. “Sounds perfect!” She shifted to holding Dion in only her right hand, pivoting on her feet to face left. “We can’t go limiting ourselves to the simple and predictable.” Which would be exactly what would happen without the practice. Dion was still a spear, but maneuvering and being conscious of where the pointy glowy points were added a new bit of required awareness. It was easy enough, but Misaki had thus far been sticking to the first two things that always jumped to her mind in wielding Dion: slicing and stabbing.
A change was definitely in order. Taking a few steps back from the trees to give herself more space, Misaki paused. She gathered her thoughts, brought together what would really test how she could handle a giant, glowing Demon Spear of awesome.
She grinned.
“Let’s get creative!” And then she was moving. There was nothing wrong with starting basic and moving up, but Misaki wasn’t in the mood to start at the bottom considering she and Dion were already at the top. They’d just spent the last several minutes slicing through trees and blasting splinters into the air. She didn’t have it in her to calm down from that, which was why she launched right into her usual strategy of trying to push for whatever popped into her head.
Misaki was no parkour master like Dion, but she had a few tricks of her own. She tossed the Demon Spear just high enough to catch it further up along the shaft, turning sharply on her heel next. The best way to test things out would be to perform in quick, continuous movement. A strong start was everything. Misaki planted her feet firmly on the ground one in front of the other, swinging the spear forward. She gripped it firmly with both hands and went for something Elmer had wound up on the wrong end of. Ramming the opposite bladed end into the ground, Misaki shoved off the grass and put her weight into lifting off and kicking forward into the air, putting her weight into keeping herself stable against Dion spear.
When gravity reached out to yank her back down, she the momentum carry her through. Her feet touched down and she pulled the spear from the ground before going into a crouch and spinning it over her head once. Misaki brought the Demon Spear to her side and rocked back to leap up from her crouching state, gaining enough height to be considered successful. She held the spear in both hands at the middle of the shaft and raised it over her head, conscious of where the pointed blades were and where she was in the air. While probably not the best move in most scenarios she could imagine, Misaki brought the spear down in a stabbing motion that landed with a bladed end of the Demon Spear in the ground and with her roughly on her knees. Not the best feeling in terms of landing, but she did it. She stood up, shifted her hand to hold their resonance at opposite ends of the shaft, already beginning to turn.
She was still grinning.
She would keep going until they ran out of steam.

Dion didn’t think Misaki would turn down a chance for theatrics and her words of confirmation just assured it. When she shifted her grip Dion waited to see what sort of attack his meister would come up with. Distancing themselves from the trees was probably a good idea for whatever happened just for the space. Not that the trees were obstacles but more so they didn’t end up cutting down so many that they couldn’t move for the really cool stuff. From how he was Dion couldn’t see the grin on Misaki’s face but he practically felt it before she spoke.
Words and then movement. Whenever a running start was involved whatever followed was bound to be excellent. Dion didn’t expect Misaki to throw him but neither would any enemies they faced so that was a plus. Once he left her hand however he noticed the resonance begin to wane slightly. Maintaining the connection the best he could their souls could remain in synch without contact for at least a moment hopefully. Luckily they weren’t out of contact for long and when Misaki grabbed the spear again the wavelength picked up right where it had left off. Aside from draining Dion a little it didn’t seem to impact the resonance too badly.
Feeling Misaki plant her feet down Dion waited to see what would come next. What he didn’t expect was to be meeting with the ground. Considering her movements some sort of slash seemed more likely to come next but instead it was him meeting the earth. She did follow it up well enough by using the momentum to transition into a kick that would certainly get through to any kishin egg they happened to fight. Not a kill move but considering he was practically six feet of sharp pure energy that wasn’t the most pressing matter.
Next came the inevitable descent that cursed everyone who got some distance in the air. Misaki fell rather quickly for the action and height but it wasn’t until she landed that Dion saw why. First her feet touched the ground and then Dion was ripped out of the ground. Being spun over her head only if it was one time seemed to take forever for him. From that position they could go into a bunch of different attacks regardless of what Misaki actually chose for this time. Forget the spin and just slam him into the ground, bring him to her side and stab out, or do what she did.
Misaki might not have been the best person for what she did but for a first attempt is was great. The higher she could jump from that the better the ensuing stab would be. Against more human kishin eggs that might be next to useless but for more monstrous ones it was a solid attack. Dion just wanted to see it in action against a monster and not dirt. Feeling her get up and start to transition into something else Dion didn’t bother expanding on ideas, she probably got the basis of them anyway. Sending his thoughts on what to do next not to distract her but to feed into whatever else she had planned.
”Focus on channeling a bunch of energy into a blast. Much more flair than a normal stab or slash.”
Plus that was something they hadn’t practiced as much. Misaki was clearly capable with attacking even with his resonance form. If they mastered the blast as well there was nothing that could threaten them.
