The first thing to cause Elias to come partially out of his shell was hearing something drop. He flinched, not sure if that was his fault or Jo was even more upset with him. Still, Elias didn’t move his head to look at her. Surely she was going to say some kind of sarcastic quip soon and that’d be the end of it. And then they’d never talk about this whole ordeal again.
Jo still hadn’t said anything when Elias heard her footsteps. Moving closer, no doubt, but Elias was still looking away. Was she going to punch him or something? Did the girl not know how little that’d do? Elias simply wouldn’t feel it. Sure, he’d get a bruise, which’d be annoying, but he could hide that. Nothing would change minus the fact Elias would be even more ticked off at her.
Instead of suddenly finding himself on the ground due to a strong punch, Elias instead had his sight pulled towards Jo. He didn’t have a choice but to look directly at her now, as he didn’t seem to have the guts to shift them away. Or perhaps that was also because he wasn’t looking directly at her eyes. To be specific, Elias was looking slightly down. He wasn’t quite sure why, as he had no idea Jo had pressed her head against his. Didn’t matter, really. She wasn’t hurting him, so he didn’t really mind whatever she was doing.
Then Jo spoke. Words Elias was not expecting. At all. Her voice sounded so much kinder than normal...
Her words were also something Elias did not expect to hear. They were strangely comforting, even if her words weren’t all that comforting by themselves. Hah. There was almost some humour to them. Elias was a bit confused as to how he should react. There was no point to being angry, as Jo was trying so hard to make him feel better, but Elias was still kind of in poor spirits.
Before Elias had too much time to overthink it, Jo had released his head and moved back. She didn’t push him back this time, instead stepping back herself. Elias quickly brought his head up to directly look at the girl. She spoke again, again with the niceness. No one had been nice to Elias since he had gotten here. So... this was nice.
It seemed as though the atmosphere had lightened up quite a bit, despite the fact Elias had said nothing in response yet. He simply stared at Jo with a blank expression. But, after a few moments had passed, his expression softened at the boy gave his partner a warm smile. He didn’t recall ever looking at her in such a way. ”Really now? You think a Tessen Fan would fill the role of the best weapon ever?” Elias asked Jo, laughter clinging to his words. ”You’re quite the odd girl, you know.”
