Clothing/BikeA motorcycle helmet covering her head, Jo Workmann had just cut the gas to her bike, hopped off, and grabbed a box that she had been riding with. A backpack hung on her back, looking to be somewhat weighed down from the contents. However, she moved just as easily as if she carried nothing. Attire typical of the girl; boots, jeans, buckles, jacket… Always more layers than needed in the Nevada desert, but one couldn’t debate that it wasn’t safe attire for a motorcycle. Pausing at the doorway, Jo shifted the box she held to her left arm, balancing it as she went to turn the doorknob with her right hand. Door open, success, the girl’s grin was hidden by the helmet on her head. The counter sat directly to her left as she moved through the door. Kicking the door closed behind her with a strong ‘thud,’ she sat the box down easily on the counter. By it lay a few more cardboard boxes, each closed except for one that contained random trinkets including a football and cleats on top. Sliding the bag off her back as well, she lightly tossed it to the one stool by the counter that stood just a tad farther from her than the other. Hands then moved beneath her helmet, unclasping the securing straps and then pulling the equipment from her. Shaking her head back and forth a few times, a few drops of sweat would litter the area around her. She then sat the helmet down, excited grin never leaving her face. “Elias! You in?” Her partner. Elias Larenz. Jo had convinced him that they should move in together. While he may not have been particularly fond of the idea, he still agreed. It would be nice not to be alone. Not that she was alone in the dorms but… being with a bunch of girls was very different from home. Granted, Elias was not like her brothers, but he was better than some make-up and hair crazy girl, right? Stripping her jacket from her as well, she settled it on the same stool as her bag. Her skin was slightly damp. Being out in the sun, moving things, having a ton of layers… It was damn hot! Not that it completely bothered her, but she might have to start thinking of alternatives for her attire. Glancing around the apartment, a satisfied grin remained on her face. The place was simple, mostly because it just had a few furnishings that came with it and the random boxes the pair had brought. The best part was the kitchen. Not that Jo was any sort of cook, but kitchens meant food. Even if she couldn’t make five star meals, she at least had a place to try and get herself something decent. Or at least edible. Shifting to her bag, she opened it, pulling part of the contents out. A paper to-go bag. Kicking off her boots as she rummaged through the paper bag, she pulled out a sandwich wrapped in tinfoil. Or better yet, a cheddar mushroom burger. Obviously pleased, the girl partially unwrapped the food, took a bite, then strolled over to the couch. Once within distance, she jumped to it. A light thud from the stressed furniture, she rested her head against the armrest nearer the entrance doorway, stretching her legs across the cushions of the couch. “I have fooood~” Jo called out again, a somewhat singsong quality to her voice. Then she took another large bite.

Why had he agreed to this idiotic idea?
This question ran through Elias’ head over and over as he sorted through the two bags he had brought with him. They contained not much more than clothes and cosmetics. Elias lacked any keepsakes he had brought from home. His life at his home in the city of Berlin was rather humble, despite that his household was rather well off. He was ignored, mostly. Though the boy was rather apathetic to such things, as he was under the assumption that his medicine was expensive enough already. He wasn’t the type to like to rely on others too much.
However, he was relying on someone quite a bit to be at an apartment like this. Sure, it wasn’t the most expensive apartment they could have got, but nonetheless Elias couldn’t even pay half of what the renting fee costed. He certainly would have been able to if the boy was able to get a part time job, but alas the jobs that were offered to Shibusen students were not ones he’d be good at. Working in a cafe or for a delivery service. The first option was impossible. Elias would easily drop the plates. He wasn’t the best at holding things in the first place, but the additional pressure of wanting to do everything right would make him even more clumsy as well. The latter was a bit easier, sure, but involved being outside for long amount of times. That was even worse.
So, when his meister had proposed the idea of the two of them living together Elias was not too thrilled about the idea. He had explained why, and her opinion on the matter never changed. Eventually, he gave in. How idiotic of him to do so. Even neglecting the pricing issue, Elias still found his partner somewhat intimidating. Not as much as when he had first met her, of course, but she certainly enjoyed mocking him. What if she decided to pull a prank on him or something? Those were always in such ill taste. Furthermore, what if she was in an ill mood for whatever reason and decided to sabotage his medicine or something? His sister had done that before, and the two seemed similar in quite a few regards.
Well, whatever. Not much he could do about it now, save resent himself for accepting. Elias knew he needed to be on better terms with his meister anyway. Surely they’d grow closer if they were forced to be living together, right?
The boy had finally sorted all of the cosmetics he had brought. Arguably not that many, though it was likely Jo would think it was a lot. He never understood why people questioned males wearing makeup. After all, all male actors that every woman ever wanted wore a complete mask of makeup at all times. So, Elias ignored all that mocked such things. They were simply delusional. With the cosmetics he was also holding some medicine. That’d generally go in the washroom too, after all. He walked to the washroom and placed the items down. Just as he did so, he heard a voice.
Jo’s, to be exact. Asking if he was in. Well, of course he was. Did she not see the bags? Elias wasn’t a fan of yelling. It generally caused him to bite parts of his mouth, so the boy quickly straightened out the items he had brought to the bathroom before he heard her voice again.
A much more melodious voice that time. It seemed like she was trying to tempt him out with food. Jo was quite the strange girl, really. Didn’t she know it was impossible for Elias to feel hunger? Whatever. Elias walked back to the front room to meet her. She was sitting on the couch, eating a burger. So that’s what had taken her so long to get here...
”No need to worry. I’m here.” He said, to get her attention.

No sooner had Elias replied to her did Jo call out again. Mouth half full of food, she wasn’t about to let her food go to waste! Of course, the girl was totally clueless about him being unable to feel hunger. Her knowledge on his abilities and lack of were near non-existent. Besides, she couldn’t treat him differently than anyone else. He wasn’t that special. The poor sucker.
“That meant come EAT.”
Grin on her face, laughter in her voice mixed along with the semi-muffled sound of still having food in it, she finished chewing and swallowed after, taking another enormous bite of her already half gone burger. Nestling her shoulders back into the couch’s armrest, she kicked her feet against the cushions of the couch so her feet bounced up and down against them. Leaning her head back after downing that last bite, she observed the apartment from her upsidedown angle.
Where was her blonde partner and what was he doing?
Oh. He was right there. Brightening up somewhat, she pointed to the bag with the hand that held no food.
“I got you something too.”
Her voice was considerably more quiet this time, though no less energetic. Watching him for a moment longer, it didn’t take a great amount of time for her to decide that she needed to get back to her food. Sitting back up in a straighter position, she started biting at her sandwich again with the same amount of gusto. Burgers were good. Especially when they had a ton of extras on them.
After a small bit of time passed, she looked to focus on her weapon again.
“What were you doing? Trying to steal the big room before I got back?”
The words were mocking, somewhat playful, but a subtle warning that she wanted the bigger room. She had staked out the place. She knew there was a big room! And that’s the one she wanted! What was Elias gonna do, fight her for it? The mere thought was laughable. Though really, the girl had no idea what he was capable of. It never mattered though. Jo was always confident in her fighting abilities, even when it was obvious she was on the losing side. Fighting was an enjoyment. Win or lose.

Despite Elias having announced his location, Jo spoke up again. Loudly. She was so loud. Uncouth, too. Talking with one’s mouth full? Eck. Did the girl not know proper manners? Elias tried to ignore her rudeness. He’d have to. If he wished to make this arrangement work, he certainly couldn’t be bothered by every small thing she did. That’d prove difficult, but he’d try his best.
Before Elias could say something else in regards to the fact he was standing right there, Jo turned her head around and finally noticed him. The girl’s face seemed to brighten at the sight, strangely enough. She spoke again. Apparently she had gotten him something. That was quite nice of her. Perhaps a trick of sorts? Didn’t matter. Elias’ nerves were being a bit too much of a pain for him to feel like eating. And it wasn’t like he was hungry or anything...
”Uh, thanks, but I’m not really hungry.” He said, giving Jo a weak smile.
Jo had turned her attention away from him to continue eating. Again, she seemed to lack proper manners. But, soon enough she had turned her attention back to him, asking what he had been doing.
That tone... Was she mocking him? It certainly sounded like it. Her words also sounded a bit playful. Elias had heard that tone before. It was the same tone she had used when they had first met each other. When Jo had thought he was the socially nervous sort, she had used that exact tone to try to get under his skin. But why was she using it now? None of the girl’s words came off as particularly rude. Perhaps it was that she thought Elias would be bothered if he could not have the bigger room of the two?
That was an incorrect assumption. Elias couldn’t care less.
”No, actually I was just putting some things away in the washroom.” The boy said. At first, he was just going to leave it at that. But instead, he had a better idea. ”Why? Did you want the bigger room?”
With this question, Elias walked closer to Jo until he was standing over her. The boy then bent down to ruffle the girl’s hair. ”You know, I do find it rather hard to move in small areas sometimes. I suppose you could have it, but I might get hurt in a room that’s too cramped.”

Not hungry?
Those words were foreign to her. It made her pause when taking a bite out of her own food, but only a brief one. She wouldn’t let him ruin her eating pleasure. It would be noted though… the boy was strange. How could anyone claim to not be hungry? Who would turn down food? This male was definitely from another planet.
Continuing on as if something earth-shattering hadn’t happened, Jo almost forgot that Elias was still there. Well, that was until she decided to speak to him again. They were going to live together! She may as well learn how to converse with this oddity of a boy. He answered her question that was stabbing at if he had chosen a room. What she heard was more insanity.
WASHROOM?
The girl froze, absolutely no movement from any part of her. She was surprised and processing. Who referred to it as a washroom? Was this some ritzy thing she didn’t understand? Maybe that was his thing, he had money or something. Rich boy. Ha. That’s funny! She had many questions for him though. Resuming her movement once again, her gaze shifted to the quarter of burger she had remaining. She heard his question, it only strengthened the grin on her face.
“Hell yea I want the big room.”
From the corner of her eye, she saw him draw closer. Grin not dying down, she wondered what he might be doing. Did he want to sit down? At this thought, she shifted her legs just a bit, bending them at the knees so they weren’t stretched out across the whole couch. About to take one of the last bites of her precious food, the girl felt a slight weight on her head. Then… the ruffle. Turning her head only slightly, eyes widening the tiniest bit, her attention was on the male again and her mouth was still hanging somewhat open.
His words rang in her ears. Hinting that he wanted the bigger room. So he did want to fight for it? So be it! Her brothers were often like this. The four of them rarely fought with anger, usually their tussles started with a childish jab and a little sarcasm. But the ruffling of the hair, that was a sure-fire way to say ‘you are too much of a kid to get what you want.’ Well Jo would show Elias!
Holding to the burger with one hand, her free hand shot out to grab the wrist of the hand that was tormenting her hair. The mocking expression had changed to determination and that of a challenge. Elias better prepare himself. She then combined two movements. Using her bent legs to spring forward while also jerking Elias wrist so that he fell towards the couch. She wouldn’t release this wrist, in fact, if all went well, she meant to twist his arm around his back and pull his wrist up towards his shoulderblades. If things went really well, she’d be completely over him with his stomach and possibly face into the couch, her standing and straddling over him.
“Who the hell calls it a washroom?”
The question was an afterthought, but a light laughter rang out in her words. Washroom. Really.

Elias hadn’t noted Jo freezing at the saying of the word “washroom”. He wasn’t the best at reading body language in the first place, and didn’t believe that any of his words were really all that odd. Because of how oblivious he was to Jo’s confusion, the boy continued talking. He had asked Jo if she wanted the bigger room, to which she had of course said she did. Oh, Jo. You were so very predictable.
However, Elias had not expected her to react in such a way to having her hair rustled. Elias thought of Jo as more of a friend (if you could call her that) than a girl, and therefore treated her as such. He imagined that ruffling one’s hair would be a friendly gesture, but it was obvious Jo thought differently. Had her eyes widened a bit? Elias wasn’t sure, but he best be safe as opposed to sorry.
As Elias begun to move his hand away from Jo’s hair, she suddenly grabbed his wrist. ”Hm?” He asked, the tone of his voice mirroring the confused expression on his face. Had he really gotten her so ticked off that she needed to resort to brute force? ”Ack. Perhaps I best apologize. Wait. No. Last time I did that she got mad at me for apologizing. Is it impossible to please this girl? Whatever. Stay quiet, I guess.”
Just as Elias was finishing up these thoughts, he was suddenly pulled forward by Jo. Or at least he thought it was Jo. It was entirely possible some other force had pushed him towards the couch. Was she really strong enough to pull someone down by just their wrist? The thoughts had caused Elias to remain silent as he fell face forward into the couch. Jo stood over him. So it was her. Huh.
Why had she done that, exactly? Weird girl. Elias turned his head to the side to look at her, as he was unable to move due to her twisting his arm back behind his back. Same determined expression as before, but she looked like she was about to laugh. The girl then spoke. Elias imagined she be reprimanding him for messing up her hair or something but instead, while laughing, she instead asked why Elias had called the washroom a... washroom.
What an odd girl she was.
If Elias’ expression had looked slightly confused already, it now looked absolutely clue less. Almost humorously so. It took him a while to reply, and when he did his voice sounded equally confused. ”Uh... Well my family, I guess...”

Silly boy. She was getting the big room. And no amount of hair fluffing or nonsense words would get in her way. Jo met no resistance when she moved to throw Elias into the couch. That was… surprising. Hadn’t he initiated the little spar? Maybe he was waiting for her to say ‘go’ or something? Mentally shrugging, she just figured he’d learn.
Still a firm grip on his wrist with one hand, she made sure not to pull up too far. Could cause some injury, especially since he wouldn’t be able to cry out to tell her to stop. His pesky lack of feeling and all that. In her other hand, she held the delicious food she had yet to finish! One foot holding her steadily up from the floor of the apartment, she had the other foot on the couch with her knee slightly bent so she wasn’t too wonderfully lopsided. Elias was between her legs, poor soul.
The blond boy didn’t answer her question right away and… Jo waited patiently for her attack. He looked clueless, but she wouldn’t be sucked into this game. She had already won the room, as far as she was concerned, but now it was even more important. He wasn’t hungry? Well… that was too bad.
As soon as Elias opened his mouth, Jo moved. Hand that held the last precious fourth of her sandwich was shoved towards his speaking mouth. Let him fight now. The movement was quick, but she was mostly careful not to punch him in the face. Either burger would go in the mouth or get smeared all over him. It mattered not. He couldn’t dare turn down her burger!
“A growing boy must eat!”
A more amused laughter coming from the girl, she released him. Hand letting go of his wrist and leaving the sandwich, wrapper and all, at the mercy of his face. Kicking off the couch with her foot, she landed on the floor with a light hop. Shoving her hands into her pockets, she still grinned, but more innocent if that was at all possible.
“If I have to worry about you in a small room, then maybe we should share. That way I can keep an eye on your sorry ass.”
The sarcasm wasn’t there. She may actually have thought this was a good idea. Or she could be screwing with him. It would be hard to tell when her expression hadn’t changed from the grin from earlier, yet didn’t hold her normal mocking tone.
“Regardless. I’m putting my stuff in the big room.”
And with that, she moved to the boxes she had sat on the counter. Picking up the one with a variety of sport equipment, she looked back to Elias and grinned.
“Are you going to need help moving your junk?”
Those words held her mocking tone. It was the same grin as before, but she was messing with him obviously this time. Shifting her own box’s position in her hands.

Before Elias could say a word in response to Jo’s question, she shoved something in his face. At first, Elias wasn’t sure what the thing was, but he soon tasted it. The rest of her burger, it seemed. Eck! Did that girl know nothing of germs?! She had said something about him having to eat, but did she not think this was a tad extreme?! Elias immediately gagged at the taste of the thing, not noticing that Jo had let go of him.
That gagging proved to cause a slight problem for Elias. Though it didn’t happen often, Elias would often lose control of his breathing if he thought about it too much to the point where it slowed down substantially. It was a thing that was not only very detrimental to his health, but also hard for him to notice. Somewhat fortunately, the gagging had caused him to cough at the sudden lack of oxygen. The boy was now having a coughing fit. Seemingly having forgotten that Jo was ever pinning him down at all, he quickly sat upright and covered his mouth as he coughed.
The boy was completely hopeless, wasn’t he?
Even the slightest of actions seemed to have great consequences on him. He almost felt fortunate that he was in the company of Jo as opposed to a nicer person. Surely she wouldn’t start to pity him over a silly little coughing fit. Soon enough, the coughing ceased. However, Elias certainly appeared more red than he normally was... Not a problem! The boy quickly took out the pills he was carrying in his pants’ pocket, opened the lid, took one out, swallowed it, closed the lid, and returned the jar to where it had been. Tsk. He relied on those so very much. He had pretty much memorized the motion by now. Pathetic.
The whole ordeal had caused Elias to miss Jo’s comments about the bigger room. Not that it mattered. He’d just been teasing her. He really didn’t care about such things. However, he had heard her offer to help him move his stuff. Once again, she mocked him. Elias wasn’t in the mood to get worked up over something like that right now, though, so he simply ignored her tone and choice words. ”No thanks. I’ve got it.” He said in a quiet voice.

Jo hadn’t paid much attention to Elias’ reaction to her shoving food in his face. Sure she looked at him, she was even grinning straight at him. But… Through her siblings she had lost any mothering nature she may have possessed. Her compassion and concern for someone in pain or discomfort drew from a very shallow pool. If one was sucked in by another’s weakness, they may find themselves in a worse position. Really… If she felt bad for her sibling, she was more often the one who got the short end of the stick. Elias would be fine!
Most of her comments seemed to go unnoticed by her blond roommate, not that Jo totally minded. Sure, it was one thing to be ignored, but he was going on with his coughing fit. Moving right along, Jo figured she may as well continue on with her business. If they were going to get anywhere as a team, she needed to be assured he wouldn’t die when she turned her back. If food was killing him… well… they may have a problem.
Moving to her boxes like nothing was amiss, she posed her question just as she normally would. There was no need to reassure herself that Elias would be okay, she fully expected him to be. Looking to the sitting boy, mocking grin still remaining on her face, she watched him pop his little pill. He seemed… more off than normal. Something about those pills must get him all worked up in his mind. He was odd like this when they first met, though then she had taken it as insecurity and shyness.
That happened to be so very wrong. Not that it really mattered, but Elias didn’t really seem the shy type anymore. Odd, but not so much shy. Once he was no longer coughing up a lung, Jo expected an answer. Why shouldn’t she? She had spoken and was waiting for one. But whatever. Maybe he wasn’t done with her fo-
No thanks?
Her grin remaining ever mocking, she gave a single nod and shifted the box she held to be balanced in her right hand and partially by her right forearm. Though she looked a bit unstable, for the most part she was keeping the box in check, her eyes partially on her holding her items and some attention on Elias.
” You’ve got it. Obviously.”
Then she chuckled. The girl was making fun of him wholeheartedly. He had just choked on a burger like he might have to be rushed to a hospital. He made no fight against her when he initiated. Always an odd boy.
Steadying her box with her left hand again, she turned away from him and moved to take her box to the room she had claimed. Walking with her own brand of confidence, she found herself hesitating in the hall between her door and the bathroom. A bit of curiosity forming, she couldn’t help but wonder…. What kind of things could he have been putting in there? It wasn’t like he was there for two seconds throwing his toothbrush and soap in.
“Elias!”
She called his name with little care as to who else in the world might hear.
“You don’t have to lie about putting stuff in the bathroom. Everyone knows what really happens, it’s not one of life’s secrets.”
Her words were loud enough that he could hear, but she chuckled to herself as she entered her own room, sat the box down on the bed, and then headed back out towards the kitchen and her other boxes.
“I’m not here to be your mom and doctor, just so you know.”
Her gaze settled on her partner for a moment, her grin never having left her face. Soon enough, she had turned her attention from him once again. Picking up two boxes, she shifted her hands’ grip farther along the bottom of the box to get a better grip. Speaking while she made sure she wouldn’t drop her things, it was hard to pick up exactly how she might mean her words.
“I trust you’re not going to die. So I don’t think you should expect me to carry your crap anyway. Even if you start having episodes on the couch.”
Though the complete meaning behind her words might be difficult, she wasn’t totally trying to pick a fight with him. That mocking tone of hers… it was there. Stupid grin showed eventually when she looked like she might go towards her room again.

Despite Elias’ coughing fit, Jo didn’t seem to note it in the slightest. Her expression never changed from that damn mocking grin. Clearly the girl didn’t particularly care about what happened to him. Even so, showing him at least a bit of concern would be nice. But at least she wasn’t pitying him, he supposed. Agh. Whatever. He couldn’t let every little thing Jo did bother him. He’d just drive himself mad.
Jo’s next words seemed to be mocking as well. She even laughed to herself afterwards. Normally Elias would have just thrown her an annoyed look, but he was a bit confused as to what exactly she was mocking. The girl was just repeating what he had said. Odd, odd, girl. She seemed to find anything he said funny enough to be mocked. Hm. Perhaps she was using him as a source of entertainment.
Elias was soon left alone in the room as Jo had went to put away her own things. He slowly got up, and ran a hand through his hair as Jo had probably messed it up. He hadn’t been particularly careful with styling it just right today, but nonetheless wanted to look presentable. He then shifted his eyes back to the burger that was still left on the couch. There wasn’t much left, so he best take care of that. So, Elias scooped up the burger and put it in a nearby trash can. Once he had done that, he heard Jo call his name.
Turning his head to where the voice had come from despite the fact he couldn’t see it’s owner, Elias was about to ask what she wanted, before Jo continued.
Eck. Elias had no idea what that girl was referring to, but even so the fact that she didn’t trust him for something as trivial as that was... worrying. How on earth was this arrangement supposed to work if Jo wouldn’t believe a single thing he said? Elias pursed his lips, but didn’t exactly feel like arguing with the blonde right now. He wasn’t good at arguing. By far not enough practise, especially when compared to Jo who had seemed to have mastered the art. She must have forgotten how long it took Elias to do stuff like that. No matter, she’d see that he wasn’t lying soon enough.
Jo soon returned to the room Elias was in. She spoke. Again, trying to bother him. He shouldn’t let her get under his skin so much, but that was becoming rather difficult. Yes, yes, Elias was well aware that his partner was not his caretaker. How could he even mix the two up? His mother had been a caring person, and Jo was the exact opposite of that. Hmpft. Even drawing the comparison bothered him a bit.
But if Elias wasn’t already bothered, Jo’s next words certainly got under his skin. ”Well thank you for putting so much faith in me then, Jo.” He replied, his voice so obviously annoyed. For the most part, Elias was good at hiding his anger and frustration. However, Jo was bothering him so much that Elias simply couldn’t keep all of that hidden anymore. The way she scoffed at the idea of him dying bugged him. Oh, how it bugged him. Elias wouldn’t be lying if he said he was afraid of dying, and it was such a likely outcome for almost everything he did. To have it scoffed at was even worse than him being pitied.
Elias turned his head away from Jo, even if she had already gone about her other business. He didn’t want her to mock how obviously angry he probably appeared to be. Heck, if she did he might snap. It had been a while since that had happened, but Elias wasn’t exactly the most mentally sound person around. He didn’t want to get so mad at Jo that he ended up lashing out at her, though. As much as she bothered him, at least she put up with him.

Elias was constantly hard for Jo to read. Not that she would change her behavior all that much, but she could never really quite tell if he was confused, amused, putting up with her, or pissed. Partially this was from her being somewhat unobservant and socially clueless to a degree, it also didn’t help that she put little time into trying to figure out these things. Moving from one action to the next, a brief glance wasn’t enough to show her what he meant by expression.
Regardless, Jo couldn’t be bothered. Taking her things to her room and eventually returning, one couldn’t tell if she had let her own bathroom joke slide or if she had totally forgotten. By then she had continued on with something else and Elias had not brought her back to the subject. He did bring his attention to her other mocking comments though. About being his ‘mom’ and taking care of him and whatnot.
Boxes balanced somewhat on her forearms and hands, she kept her focus on her partner for now. Was that sarcasm dripping from his tone? Intrigued by this change, she didn’t dare take her eyes off him. A light grin forming on her face, she was a bit amused. The small change didn’t last long though. Usually her brothers would say something else, take a stab at her, try to rub her the wrong way. This kid….
Turned his head?
A bit confused, Jo tilted her head ever so slightly and raised an eyebrow. What was he doing? What was this? Was this a hiding tactic or something? If he didn’t look at her then maybe she wouldn’t notice how he finally had a bit of a bite to him?
“Is that your way of putting me down for having faith in you?”
The grin was back. A bit of a challenging look to her. Her chin dropped just a bit, grin in place, eyes locked on the boy, she shifted her right arm just a bit. Dropping her knees and lowering her right hand, she then altered position swiftly. Straightening her legs and tossing the box underhanded towards Elias’ body. Well, more like his upper body. And a pretty solid toss at that.
“Try to not have another coughing attack!”
Her words were louder as if she were farther away. She was warning him, but still throwing the cardboard box with it’s contents mostly filled with miscellaneous clothing. He could do what he wished, but the blonde had to shape up. None of this hiding shit. That would do no good.

Elias probably would have been a bit surprised that Jo was paying so much attention to him, should he not be looking away from her. The girl never seemed to care about him. Ah, maybe he had been a bit too harsh with his words or something. Maybe Jo simply put up a tough girl act that wasn’t at all her actual demeanor. What a shame that’d be. The idea was unlikely, but whatever. He’d have fun jesting at such an idea if he was in a better mood.
Suspecting such a thing was probably a bit much, too. It obviously could not be true. He would have noticed by now.
In fact, Jo’s next words further solidified the fact that she was indeed simply a person that enjoyed toying with the heartstrings of others, especially Elias himself. Hmpft. She seemed to remind him of his sister in that way. The two both enjoyed making him look like a fool? But while he had no choice being stuck with Rosalie, Jo was optional. He could just leave. At this point, Elias didn’t care if he never ever got another meister partner. He just wanted to get away from this one!
Golden eyes trailed onto Jo as she spoke. Slowly. Things were often quiet before an explosion. Elias had barely moved his body other than his eyes, meaning Jo might have had a hard time seeing how angry his expression was despite how intently she was staring at him. It was even angrier now that he had laid eyes on her. Oh, that grin. That confidence. What on earth went through that girl’s head? Why did she find so much joy in being so callous?
Perhaps Elias would have left his anger directed at Jo to the glaring if she had not done or said anything else. Of course, that was simply not the Jo way. When he thought she couldn’t possibly do anything worse, she did. Now, Jo thought it’d be a good idea to throw something at him. Directly at his chest. Elias had only saw the box hit him, and it didn’t put him off balance at all, but really now? How childish could one get? Throwing things was just so very brutish.
Elias made an abrupt action to tug at the collar of his jacket. His hands were shaking with anger now, and he needed to give them something to do. Plus, his veins might have begun to get a bit darker. That happened sometimes when he was really ticked. Or it did according to his sister, at least. If Jo mentioned such things he didn’t know what he’d do.
Actually, maybe the girl mentioning such a thing wouldn’t be too bad. It would have been much less of a low blow than what she decided her next quip would be. Jo barely had time to finish the last word before Elias was yelling at her. ”OH, shut up!" With that, the boy lunged at Jo. He was going to punch her right in the face if she didn’t do anything about it. Despite evidence to suspect the contrary, Elias wasn’t exactly a weakling either. A punch from him would hurt.

Who would have known it would be so easy to pull him from his hiding place?
Jo certainly hadn’t dimmed her smile, through speaking or watching him. Her first comment brought his attention back to her. It wasn’t totally obvious, but since she had her eyes glued on him, she could see that he was looking back to her. Well that was a start! Pick and prod a little bit more.
That was the purpose of the box throw. Pull him out of that weird little shell thing he put himself in. She didn’t understand him. And as much as he talked, it never really helped her understand more. Give her some action. Display something. The box hit him square in the chest. He didn’t move and he didn’t even try to catch it. What… kind of reaction was that? Chuckling to herself, she shook her head. She wasn’t sure if she was disappointed or just plain confused. This Elias was quite something.
Jo wasn’t quite sure how else to bring him out. Throwing a box did nothing. By now, her brothers would have already had her on the floor. Letting her attention focus waiver, she glanced to the remaining box that was balanced oddly on her left arm still. A bit heavier, held a few tools, gadgets, extra gears, and random nuts and bolts. Mostly for her bike, though a few pieces of junk that she just found. The box was closed of course, but she didn’t really want to hold it forever. Maybe she should just leave her odd fan alone.
That’s when she caught his movement and his hollering.
Man, maybe she gave up too quickly. Really, maybe she should wait longer than half a second to give up on someone’s reactions. She had just finished speaking and he had prepared himself to come at her. The grin settled itself on her face again. This was more of something to understand. Anger. Why was he angry? Well…. she didn’t exactly know. Maybe he was mad about the box throw, or her shoving food in his mouth. But that was just so silly.
Jo didn’t move, not right away. Elias was drawing closer to her and she was judging his movements. Jo trusted her own reflexes, something that got her out of bad situations time and time again. Elias made his move. A punch for her face. Strong or weak looking, Jo wasn’t about to give him a free hit.
Narrowly avoiding a collision between her face and his fist, Jo simply moved her head out of the way. Precise and quick movement. No need to move her whole body out of the way for a simple punch. Though… with that forward momentum he might end up just crashing his whole self into her.
“Elias.”
She spoke his name firmly, possibly even seriously. Blue eyes searching for his golden ones, her normal grin still remained, daring to mock him even now.
“I told you to get your shit together or you didn’t belong here.”
If one hadn’t known those words had come from Jo Workmann, one might have expected the tone to be similar to that of a lecturing parent. Her right hand, her free hand, shot out to grab the collar of his jacket. One quick movement, most likely to make contact with the fabric, grasp it firmly, and pull him towards her face. The somewhat mocking grin still remained, but there was a hardness in her eyes.
“My own personal fan. Your own personal meister. A team.”
She paused for a mere moment, keeping her eyes on him as if waiting for another lashing out from him. Then, the hardness slipped away from her look, more jovial like normal. If she did gain his collar, she was going to push him back slightly.
“Get it, got it, good.”
Back to her normal mocking tone, like it was something he should just accept.

Huh. That was... odd. Elias relied very heavily on his sight to tell how his body was moving, but his eyes were being annoying. They didn’t seem like they wanted to focus on anything. Elias didn’t even notice how his fist never actually hit Jo. He kept moving forward until he had collided into Jo. The girl was lucky she was so strong, as such a collision probably would have sent most toppling over. Of course, Elias still didn’t note the fact he had stopped moving until Jo spoke.
Her voice was firm, Elias didn’t pick up any mockery in it. He had never heard Jo speak in such a manner, or at least not to him. She was always just mocking him. Was she not used to people being angry at her for her mocking? How on earth was that possible?! Well, perhaps they hadn’t lashed out at her like he had. But most people weren’t mocked as continuously as he was either...
Jo would not be able to find Elias’ eyes, due to the way the two were standing. Elias still hadn’t retreated backwards. Heck, he hadn’t moved at all. His head was to the side of Jo’s, meaning there was no way their eyes could meet. Not that Elias cared. He didn’t really want to look at her. It had been a while since he had gotten so angry he had lashed out at someone. He wasn’t sure what to do.
Then Jo continued to speak. She spoke the words that had originally made Elias actually accept her offer for them pairing up. Or, at least he thought it was. Why on earth would such vulgar words have ever made him want to spend most of his time with someone? Elias retreated back a bit, only for his collar to be grabbed. Now it was possible for their eyes to meet, as Elias could no longer retreat. Of course, he had glanced away from her. Elias was still angry. He didn’t want to look directly at the cause for that anger.
A team, now were they? Jo’s next words made him even angrier. If they really were a team, surely Jo wouldn’t try everything in her power to make her partner upset. Elias clenched his teeth, trying to stop himself from saying anything in regards to Jo’s words. He was also trying to stop himself from lashing out at her again. He didn’t want to hurt her, even if she didn’t care about hurting him. Plus he didn’t want to have to take another trip to the dispensary if he broke his hand or something.
After the words about them being a “team” were spoken, Jo had thrown him back a bit. Elias wasn’t known for having good balance. He was a bit surprised that the light box hadn’t sent him toppling over, but perhaps it was a bit lighter than he thought it was. This time the off balance would have made him fall over, if not for the slight flailing that allowed one of his arms to catch onto Jo’s shoulder.
Elias quickly retracted from Jo, still glancing away. She had stopped talking now, simply expecting him to have accepted what she had said. He didn’t, of course. Alas, Elias wouldn’t let her know that. He was turning his head away again, even if his face appeared more blank than angry at this point. ”Right. Sorry.” He spoke softly and with a wavering voice. Hopefully Jo would just let the whole thing slide now.

The blond kid had indeed smashed into Jo. Though, she had been prepared. Avoiding a fist was one thing, trying to get out of the way of the whole kid and keep her box in hand… That was too much effort for something that wasn’t threatening. Not losing her balance, absorbing the hit, the box in her other hand wobbled just the littlest bit. Making sure all was in order again, she continued to try and gain the boy’s eyes.
This annoyed her. Not being able to look him in the eye. It was something her mother’s father had done to them. All of them. The Workmann family was not worth his time, was not worthy of existing in his town. Whether she had Elias’ collar or he was against her or backed away, she had a very difficult time connecting with him visually. The tenseness in her was barely observable, especially by someone avoiding looking at her. Annoyed, but not so much that she wouldn’t be able to slide it off.. soonish.
He said nothing right away. No words came from the boy’s mouth. Wasn’t he the jabbermouth? The one she couldn’t really get to stop talking when they first met? Weird words pouring from the blond’s mouth? Even as she pushed him back and released his collar, he was still distant. So odd, this boy. She couldn’t help but keep the smile on her face though. Her demeanor had shifted back to normal, his flailing only helping that. Was this another side effect of his odd self? The not touching thing? Jo couldn’t say she knew much about that still.
Jo was on the move again. The blond was still not looking at her and his answer was obviously neither apologetic or accepting. Elias didn’t have her sarcastic charm, to use the same tone with every meaning. This boy had something wrong. She would have a hard time knowing what it was, but her partner needed to snap out of this. She couldn’t have their apartment be a place of blond’s getting worked up. That was nonsense.
The first movement was dropping the box. Before the cardboard cube even hit the ground, Jo had taken the steps forward necessary to be directly in front of him, a mere inch or so separating their bodies. Both gloved hands free, she had moved to take either side of Elias face. If successful, she meant to turn his face towards her and ever so slightly down. Foreheads touching, the variety of blonde hair mixing just between their faces.
“Little Brother. We are a team. Negativity only gets in the way of kicking something else’s ass.”
Her grin was the same, that lovely mocking quality to it, though her tone was a bit kinder. She didn’t know how to deal with him and felt somewhat out of character. Her brothers had only treated her like this when their mother came up in conversation.
Chuckling lightly, she moved to release him again, but this time moving back herself instead of pushing him away.
“My weapon will be the best! So I’ll be there for you whenever you need. That way I can beat everything on earth to a pulp!”
Having given them a bit of space between them, her right hand shot up. A thumbs up, almost pressed against his chest but making no contact. A grin on her face, her left eye closed in a wink as she had spoken the last words. Yep. There was sentimental Jo.
