Gatling; Spike;Weapon“Alright. The pork tender loins are close to being done, the roasted vegetables are coming along nicely. Hmmm. I should add some more olive oil. No no no. Two tablespoons is sufficient. Wouldn’t want to overshadow the natural flavor of the vegetables.” In the kitchen of the boy’s dorm, it became darker and darker as evening slowly turned into night. One solitary student was manning the kitchen looking back and forth between the two ovens. The brunet was wearing a t-shirt with a pie on it and his hands in the pockets of a pair of blue jeans. Scattered on the counter was an assortment of bottles of condiments, containers of spices and a few different kinds of knives. There was a stack of plates and a few sets of silverware.
Name: Spike Gatling
Class: One Star
Partner: Cyrille Lécuyer
A Strong Body
Appearance: Spike has a head of thick light-brown hair that he keeps in no particular style and brown eyes that rarely deviate from a relaxed expression. His eyebrows are thick and unkempt and his nose is sharp and masculine. He has a healthy, tan complexion and his face often has scratches or band aids on it from falling on his face regularly. His strong chin, wide shoulders, and athletic build make him appear older than he actually is and because of this fact he keeps himself cleanly shaven to keep people from thinking he’s any older than they already do. He has a habit of keeping his hands in his pockets and despite being raised by a military mom his posture is a bit too forward which contributes to poor balance.
When out on missions or attending class Spike wears navy slacks, white sneakers, and a red and white striped shirt under a navy blazer that he never buttons up. He always has the sleeves of the blazer rolled up past the elbow. When relaxing at home he likes to wear old ragged jeans and graphic tees and when out exercising he wears a white T-shirt and black gym shorts. He always wears a black beaded necklace with his grandfather’s dog tags that his parents gave him when he awoke as a demon weapon as a good luck charm.
Weight: 155 lbs
Fighting Style: Spike isn’t trained in any specific style or school of teaching. He only started training to fight after his weapon abilities awakened so his entire fighting style is based around his partial and full weapon forms.
When fighting by himself, he mainly uses his weaponized arm to block while looking for any openings for attack. But he much prefers fighting while partnered with a meister.
When fighting with a meister the strategy he prefers is to first limit the opponent’s movements with short bursts of fire while analyzing an opponent’s movements at a distance. Once Spike gets a better handle on an opponent’s abilities he communicates these with his meister and gives him/her suggestions on how to take the opponent down efficiently. If the opponent gets in close the meister is able to wield the tombstone shaped ammo pack as a shield and block with either that or the rotating barrels.
Overheat mode is usually only a strategy that Spike uses when it’s time for the finishing blow and bullets aren’t enough. Mostly because Spike is unable to fire off bullets during overheat mode and therefore his strategic options become much more limited.
Personality: Spike is an easygoing yet grounded individual. He likes nothing more than to push himself but at the same time accepts his limitations. He runs and works out regularly to build endurance as well as plays various board games to keep his mind sharp. He is patient with other people especially children and is quickly accepting of their flaws. He is more than happy to meet new people and has an outgoing if not a little gruff personality. Sometimes when he is distracted he accidentally says things absentmindedly to people that are unintentionally insulting but generally tries to be friendly and generous to the people around him.
Despite being a weapon not known for its accuracy, efficiency, and finesse Spike seeks those things in his everyday life. When he has a job to do he sets out to do it in the most efficient way possible. He will attempt to gather all the facts and make his own personal judgments to make sure that the situation he is dealing with is not a misunderstanding. He holds the firm belief that people are inherently good and that they do not commit evil unless something is wrong in their lives so he approaches life and death situations with caution and restraint and tries to give the opponent a way out before Spike blows them away. However, this does not mean that Spike is naïve. If he knows that his opponent will go on to commit more evils he will not hold back.
Strategy is Spike’s strongest weapon. From Monopoly to chess, from Risk to Connect Four, and even battlefield simulators, he has developed and honed this skill since he was young. And in a game of strategy he is a tough opponent. He is an expert at thinking on his feet and because of this he is able to maintain a level head in the worst of situations. He is prone to taking his ability to the excess and sometimes stays up late coming up with strategies for everyday things, like what to order at a restaurant or the optimal place to sit in a classroom if his seat is taken.
Inside the Soul
(Note: this is not an exact representation. just something for your imaginations to go off of. might commission a drawing of it later for the fun of it.)
Spike can turn into a five-barreled minigun with an ammo pack that is shaped like a tombstone and has two sets of straps on it so it can either be worn like a backpack or strapped on the forearm of the offhand and used like a shield. It can also be affixed to the side of the gun body where it can be used as extra protection while blocking attacks with the weapon itself. There is a jack-o-lantern type face engraved into the tombstone that acts as Spike’s face during weapon mode and the ammo feeding belt comes out of the bottom corner and is connected to the firing chamber. The ammo pack holds 1000 rounds. The minigun has two handles. One sits above the barrels and is perpendicular to them. The second protrudes from the bottom parallel the the rotating barrels and has the rotation and firing triggers. This handle is big enough to grip with both hands and can be held in order to use the rotating barrels as a blunt weapon. The barrels are 2 ½ feet long and the main body is one foot long. The perpendicular handle sits six inches down the barrels. The tombstone backpack is 2 feet tall. The body and the rotating barrels are gunmetal black and the gravestone shaped ammo pack appears to be made of granite.
Partial Form:Spike’s right arm below the elbow becomes the barrels and rotating mount of his minigun form. In this form Spike's barrels are 2 feet long.
Abilities: Can fire bullets composed of his partner's concentrated wavelength, at rates of fire exceeding 1000 rounds per minute. After sustained bursts of at least 2 posts his rotating barrels can overheat becoming red-hot at which point melee strikes using the barrels do considerably more damage. It will take 2 posts for the barrel to cool off and become useable again. Overheat mode boosts the power of melee attacks. To reload Spike, the meister has to "feed" him their wavelength through the tombstone and Spike takes care of the rest. The process takes one post to do.

History: Spike grew up in an air force family. Luckily for him, his parents were both stationed mainly at Buckley Air force base in Aurora, Colorado for most of Spike’s life which gave him the opportunity to have a normal life going to a public school and having normal friends. His mom instilled in him early on the importance of regular exercise and his dad showed him the joys of cooking. Thursday nights were game night with the family where they played board games. Spike, his parents, and his little sister and brother sat around at the table and played board games almost religiously for many years.
The first time his weapon abilities manifested was during his freshman year of high school when he was 14. He was running one morning and was just thinking of how boring his life seemed when he tripped and fell which wasn’t out of the ordinary on his morning runs. He fell face first onto the pavement which wasn’t too uncommon either. But this time the fall was accompanied by the sound of something metallic hitting the pavement. While getting up from the ground looking around for a source he went to scratch his head but instead hit himself hard with what felt like a bat. He looked at his arm and was shocked to see that it was transformed into a bunch of black metal rods. With a few deep breaths he was able to calm himself and headed back home while hiding his transformed arm under his jacket thinking to himself that he should be careful what he wishes for.
His mother had the day off and was able to explain to the confused son that the Gatling family has contained weapon blood for hundreds of years. When his dad came home that day he pulled out an old scrap book that had pictures of some of his relatives. Spike was told that his grandfather was a weapon as was his grandfather’s grandmother. His parents went on to tell Spike that he should enroll in Shibusen and aim to become a death scythe.
Spike thought about it for a few hours and decided he would enroll in Shibusen in a year so he can make a few more memories. His parents agreed as long as he could keep his weapon form in check. After some practice he figured out that if he kept his right hand in his pocket his arm wouldn’t transform accidentally when he fell. After some practice this stopped being a problem. He enjoyed one more year with his friends and even got to have a few sloppy makeouts before packing his bags and taking a plane to Shibusen and a whole new life.

Face Claim: Sentaro Kawabuchi from Kids on the Slope
A boy sticks his head in the door to the kitchen. “Should have known it was you, Spike. What are you cooking tonight? It smells delicious!” Spike looks away from the ovens and answers, “Tonight it’s pork tenderloin with roasted vegetables. I bet you’ll love the pork. It’s practically drowned in honey and barbecue sauce and the tenderloin is so juicy and flavorful to begin with. I’m really excited about it.” The boy in response looked uncomfortable. “Actually.. I can’t eat pork.”
Spike stood there for a moment staring wide-eyed at the boy. “ NOOOO!! I never made a contingency for someone with dietary restrictions! How could I have made such a heinous oversight?!” he yelled distraughtly while running around the kitchen, “What if someone was allergic to peanuts and I made peanut butter cookies?! I could have killed someone! My food needs to come with warning labels! I need to come with warning labels!” Spike abruptly stopped in his rant when he tripped on the floor and fell. He took a deep breath and got back to his feet. “Well, there’s just enough time before I take the dishes out of the oven to heat up some chicken from last night. You wouldn’t mind too terribly, would you?” “Not at all..” The boy replied nervously, visibly shaken by Spike’s strange outburst. “Well let me get that started for you then.” As he moved towards the fridge he thought to himself ‘Excellent. This will be done at exactly the same time as the tenderloins and the veggies. This is precision.’
