“So this is the cafeteria, huh?” Sable thought to herself as she entered through the cafeteria doors. “I have to say it’s a lot bigger than the one at my old school. Sure hope the food is better.” It had been awhile since Sable had eaten school food, seeing as she had been home schooled for the past few years. While she was happy to finally escape the grip of her parents and be around people other than her family for once in a long time, she was not looking forward to eating cafeteria food once again.
“Hm. They do have a pretty big selection.” she thought, looking over all of the different foods the school offered. Chicken, fish, pasta, soup, sandwiches, not to mention the different types of drinks. What’s more, everything seemed to be from a different country or culture. Some dishes looked to be from places like China or Japan while others seemed to be from Italy or Britain. Of course Sable was never one for all this fancy foreign food and in the end decided to just get a simple slice of pizza, much like the kind she would eat back home in New York.
Now that she had her food she had another problem; figuring out where to sit. There were so many seats that it was almost overwhelming and it didn't help that she didn't know anyone here. “Ah who cares. If anyone ends up having a problem with where I sit, they can take it up with me.” Since she really just wanted to avoid meeting someone right now, she sat at a table near the edge of the room hoping to eat her lunch in peace.

Despite the location he found himself in, Elias wasn’t really in the mood to eat anything. Not that he wasn’t hungry or anything, of course. Well, that wasn’t entirely true. Hungriness was a foreign concept to Elias, as he couldn’t actually tell when he was hungry. The whole no-sense-of-touch thing kind of stopped that indicator from working. He’d eat later. The reason he had come to the cafeteria was completely unrelated to whether or not he had any desire to eat. Oh no, no, no. Elias had come to the cafe because it was probably the last place anyone would expect to look for him. As of late, his attempts to get the female students in his good graces had all been ravaged by some event he couldn’t have possibly have counted for. Well, save his partner but she didn’t really count.
Now, the problem with this plan was that most ladies were with other ladies and Elias didn’t like flirting with multiple girls at once. That never worked. He didn’t really need any additional drama today. Fortunately, there was a girl sitting alone. She must have been the shy type. Sitting at the edge of the room, away from everyone else, and - as previously stated - alone. Shy types were always rather adorable, and befriending them was always satisfactory. So; Elias would talk to her.
Elias walked up to the chair that rested on the opposite side of the table the girl sat at. He spoke with a rather charming voice, almost melodious. No distinguishable accent hung to his words. ”My apologies for disturbing you, miss.” The boy said, resting his hands on the chair and giving the girl a warm smile. ”But I couldn’t help but notice your ravishing blue hair and note that you were alone. Would you, perchance, like some company?”

Once again Jo’s thoughts were consumed by one of the most blessed things of this life. Food. She was in the school, had classes and nonsense, but now she found herself hungry. Lunchtime. The glorious part of the day where one got to eat and rejuvenate energy. As well as taste the deliciousness that was food.
The Cafeteria was large. Not that she hadn’t seen it before, but she always loved it. Hands in her pockets as she moved throughout the room, she let the scents of various things enter her senses. Her normal attire still remained, black shirt, white and red jacket, work boots… She couldn’t stray from the normalcy, not when so many things were odd to her. She needed a link to her own reality, whether she realized this or not.
Grabbing a tray, Jo began the process of gathering what food she wanted. Piling on item after item, she paid for her ‘meal’ and headed to find a table. Not before taking a bite of the hamburger though! Chewing happily at her food, her eyes scanned the area for a place to sit. And what befell her eyes but the gloved wonder that was her partner. A faint smirk on her face, she made her way towards Elias. He was talking to someone, but that never bothered Jo much. People talked, why should she act any differently?
Balancing the tray in her right hand, hamburger held in her left, she took another bite of her food just before she was within striking distance of Elias. Reaching out her left elbow, she bumped him with enough force that he would notice, then sat down in the seat to his right. Tray hitting lightly against the table as she released it, the full extent of her purchases could be seen. Another hamburger on the tray, french fries, three slices of pizza, onion rings, two bananas, and a large milkshake.
Looking across the table, she looked to the one Elias was talking to. Some blue-haired little gal. Interesting. Giving a nod towards the girl in greeting, she glanced back to Elias.
“You really need to get some food in you. You’re a walking accident anyway, food does wonders.”
Jo was obviously teasing him, a light grin on her lips as she spoke with her mocking tone. Then, following her words, she took a violent bit from her burger she still held in hand. Was this a threat?

For a moment Sable actually started to enjoy herself. The food was far better than what she had expected from a school lunch and she finally had some alone time. It felt like she had been going full speed since her first day here at Shibusen. Of course it didn't take long until someone decided to walk up to Sable and introduce themselves. The thing was that this boy didn't simply say "Hello my name is such and such" or anything. It sounded more like this guy was flirting with her. Great just what she needed, some hotshot playboy type character treating her like all his other ditzy little "girlfriends." These kind of people disgusted Sable. Why did he even choose to talk to her anyway? Did she look like some sort of two-bit bimbo or give off the impression she wanted company? She assumed sitting alone in a large cafeteria would be a pretty good indication that she wanted to be left alone.
Just as Sable was about to say something back someone else started to approach. Perfect. This person was a...Girl? Yeah it had to be, the body type was all wrong for a guy even if it was surprisingly similar upon first glace. Besides, Sable of all people should know that not every girl is in to fancy dresses and gaudy makeup. The girl playfully tapped the boy with her shoulder before sitting down and teasing him. It seemed this person was a heavy eater having about 2 or 3 servings of just about everything on her plate. Yet she somehow looked very fit and even a little muscular. Well it was no surprise why this guy was attracted to Sable now.
Getting back to the matter at hand, Sable sighed before staring the blonde boy right in his eyes. "Look Romeo, I'm glad you think my hair is pretty or whatever but since you somehow couldn't tell I'd like to be alone. Frankly I'm not looking for any sort of relationship right now anyway. Certainly not one with the likes of you." With that Sable grabbed her tray and started to leave to find another table, but not before saying one last thing. "Oh and by the way you might not want to flirt with someone when your girlfriend is right behind you." The blue-haired girl said rather bitterly before walking away.

The problem with smiles was that only the genuine ones were even slightly attractive. So, when Elias noted suddenly being pushed to the side, his smile faded. Rather rude. Now who could have done that? Turning his attention to the area of which the push had come from, he laid eyes on a particular blonde girl. Jo. Her appearance here didn’t exactly bring that lovely smile back.
Nor did the girl’s words. She seemed to absolutely adore wearing a mocking smirk at all times and speaking in ways to match it. Now, one would think that trying to be in the good graces of your weapon partner was something most meisters would strive for. Not Jo. She didn’t seem to care at all of such things. No, for Jo was perfectly content with calling her partner a walking accident. Bah. She must have figured by now that Elias knew that not many other people would put up with him. It was just so very grading at times...
”Thanks for the advice, Jo.” Elias replied to her, rather bluntly. He was obviously annoyed, his german accent starting to be a bit more present in his words. Furthermore, Elias had almost completely forgotten about Sable. He didn’t even begin to think that Jo might be considered romantically involved with him. He still wasn’t entirely convinced that she was a girl, after all! Even how much she ate wasn’t feminine in the slightest.
This was until he heard another voice. Ah. That must have been the other girl’s. Unlike what he had been hoping for, she spoke rather rudely as well. Kind of like Jo, but with more annoyance as opposed to mocking. Eck. Not the nicest thing to say... What on earth was with people and comparing him to Romeo? He assumed they meant the character from the well known play “Romeo and Juliet”, but it really didn’t make sense as an analogy to him. And, every time someone said it they had meant it as an insult. These Shibusen students were certainly odd. Nonetheless, her last words seemed to be the last words Elias would hear from the blue haired girl, as she had picked up her tray and was now moving to a different table.
Alas, he was wrong. For these were not the last words the girl ever uttered to him.
Elias would have left her alone if that was all she had said. Taken a seat and ignored all further attempts Jo made to mock him. But, no. The girl had to add in an additional sentence. Referring to Jo as his girlfriend? Unacceptable! That was an error Elias could not leave uncorrected, and therefore called after the girl. ”Oh no, miss! You have it all wrong! She’s simply my partner! I would never...” His last few words trailed off. Elias was getting tired of having to explain himself like this all the time. Plus, the girl obviously wanted nothing to do with him. Best just let her go...

ClothingJo hadn’t really heard anything Elias had said. Not really paying attention because she had food to eat and she had been approaching at the time. Now that she had sat down and was eating, at least one means of distraction was lost. Chewing eagerly at her food, she kept a sort of side glance on Elias, though it consistently left him so she made sure her food made it to her mouth. His answer wasn’t quite amused, but it was fine enough. A thanks. Not exactly what she was going for, but Elias never really reacted how she expected. It was like he was all tied in knots. But not knots of fury… or maybe it was. She couldn’t really tell. All she knew was that she didn’t amuse him very often. It didn’t much bother her, seeing as he didn’t exactly seem to hate her for it either. There wasn’t really much time to say anything back to him though, between her filling her mouth with food and the blue haired midget speaking. Was she this knot type too? Placing her elbows on the table as she grasped her burger with both hands and was finishing it off, Jo obviously focused straight on the female. Feisty little bugger. Half grinning as she chewed at her food, Jo leaned back in her seat and let her empty hands grab something new. Peeling a banana, she felt like she was watching some odd show again. What was with Elias and bringing her right into the middle of a real life drama? This girl was so worked up and nasty, Jo kind of wondered what Elias might have said. Glancing to him from the corner of her eye for a brief moment, she decided he couldn’t have said anything that bad. The kid was too mellow. A bit of a yellow belly. At least in her opinion. The other girl was on her feet now. A quick devil. Grinning, Jo let her banana return to her own tray. Right hand circling around her milkshake, she took a quick swig of it and stood as well. Girlfriend. That was sort of funny. Jo never really thought about… well… anything in that sort of department. Elias talking brought Jo’s eyes back to him. Sipping from the straw of her milkshake, she heard him denying any sort of romantic relationship between them. The last part, that he would never…. Should that sting? Maybe as much as being thought of as a boy. It was all so silly. Who cares if she was a boy or girl? It was all the same her! Elias seemed tired though. Did he like that girl? Why was she so nasty? Letting the straw slide away from her lips, a light grin crossed Jo’s lips. Nothing too innocent. In fact… If Elias caught it he should probably be a tad worried. Having already stood, Jo drew her right hand back. Then… it flung quickly forward. That also happened to be the hand the milkshake had been in. Throwing the drink directly for the short, blue-haired girl’s head, Jo couldn’t keep herself from letting out a light laugh. “Being such an ass just means you take things too seriously.” The words came once Jo’s laugh had died down. While speaking, she had picked up her banana again, only to take a bite out of it when her little sentence was finished. She looked pleased with herself, or at least amused. Elias was all mopey or weird or whatever, this chick was a firey mess. Cold ice cream should chill her out, right?

Some people were so annoying. Who just walks up to a person and starts flirting with them? Well whatever, the boy was out of her hair now. Or at least that's what Sable thought. As she walked away Elias called after her saying something about the other girl at the table and how they were merely partners. She ignored what he was trying to say for the most part. Plus it wasn't all that surprising to find out that she wasn't his girlfriend. Honestly the very notion that anyone, male or female, would want to date a person like that boggled Sable's mind.
She had just about had enough of all this and was eyeing the cafeteria for another table to sit at when something suddenly hit her in the back of the head. Something cold. The impact made the girl drop her tray. Welp, there goes lunch. Sable touched the back of her head only to find cold, and slightly sticky, liquid trailing down her back. Ice cream? Before Sable could question this any further mild laughter could be heard behind her followed by the sentence:
“Being such an ass just means you take things too seriously.”
It was none other than the blonde girl from just a few moments ago, the one poking fun at her supposed partner. Insulting people and throwing cold dairy beverages at them? And she called Sable an ass!
The young New Yorker was now seeing red, her already bad temper was now magnified tenfold. All she wanted to do was enjoy her lunch in peace then Goldilocks had to show up and ruin everything. Sable was so filled with rage that she felt like she just had to punch something. She turned around and glared at the girl who had just thrown the milkshake.
What did the boy call her? Jo? She even had a guy's name. Well whatever gender Jo was Sable was not happy with her. "Just what the hell is wrong with you?" Sable exclaimed after walking up to Jo. "Just because I was a little mean to your partner doesn't mean you can randomly throw things at me!" Sable was visibly mad, as could be expected. Her eyes were filled with rage and hatred towards this girl. Sable still couldn't believe what had just happened. It felt like everyone who went to this school was insane.
"If you have some sort of problem with me then fine but don't throw crap around like a coward!" As she talked Sable noticed that Jo was still eating a banana. Really? She couldn't stop stuffing her mouth for two seconds? In yet another nasty move Sable attempted to slam Jo's hand and force the banana to fall to the ground, much like her pizza did. If Sable didn't get to eat her lunch than neither did this girl.

Perhaps it had not been such a good idea to yell after the blue haired girl like that. Elias wasn’t really thinking when he had. The fact his words had trailed off in such a matter might have been less than desirable as well. He had meant to say that he wouldn’t be cheating on someone, not that he’d never think of dating the likes of Jo. Actually thinking about that... Bah, best just not think about that.
It was as he thought of that, his face slowly reddening just a tad more than normal and not due to overheating, that Elias shifted his eyes to glance at Jo. She was smiling. But smiling in such a way that did not look too good. Elias wasn’t quite sure why, but his partner looked so devious for some reason. That could be something worth worrying about.
And indeed it was something to be worried about, for Jo had decided it would be an excellent idea to throw a milkshake at the poor girl with blue hair. As well as insult her afterwards by calling her an ass. Elias might as well have died right there. Gah, today was not one of his days. Well, it was rarely one of his days but nonetheless...
When Sable walked up to Jo, clearly enraged, and started yelling at her, Elias just kind of panicked more. He was certain Jo would not be very upset by this. She was too laid back. This kind of thing just didn’t bother her. So... he should probably take Sable’s side. He agreed with her anyway, but Jo was the one he actually had to put up with. ”Yes, Jo, I do believe she’s correct. Why don’t we go to the dojo or something. You can throw things at the training dummies instead...” Elias said, somewhat in jest. Maybe that’d lighten the mood a little.
There wasn’t much Elias could do right about now. The commotion would probably be causing quite a lot of heads to turn to look at them. Great. Just what he needed. More infamy. Elias kinda felt like hiding right about now, but that’d be a bit hard to do. Nothing to hide behind. Besides he kinda needed his eyes or else he was completely and utterly useless because he had no idea how he was moving.
Then Sable tried to smack the banana Jo was eating out of her hand. Probably not a good move. Jo liked eating. Elias hadn’t seen angry Jo in... ever, and he certainly did not want to see if this simple gesture would be enough to set her off. He was just useless right now, so he kinda just stood to the side. He would be in between the two girls should he step forward, but that’d probably be hazardous to his health.

Tray clattering to the floor, Jo had to keep herself from laughing so that she didn’t spray half chewed banana everywhere. Certainly was funny though, even if it cost her a milkshake. While only normal people would expect the girl who got hit to be angry, Jo couldn’t fathom why ice cream wouldn’t cool a hothead. The blue haired gal turned quickly, her eyes focused directly on Jo, and they burned with fury. Jo’s head tilted ever so slightly to her side, taking another bite of her banana as she pondered how someone could possibly get so pissed. Had she missed something? Maybe she was allergic to milkshakes… That could explain why her face was reddening and it pretty much looked like steam was going to come from her ears any moment now.
The biting words shot from Sable’s mouth, something that caught the attention of quite a few others in the cafeteria, if a flying milkshake hadn’t yet. The little blue haired one was moving towards Jo now, who made no move to back away. It was still lost on her why Sable was so mad. The next sentence surprised Jo. Raising an eyebrow, she stared at the girl silently for a good second or two, chewing slowly at her banana. Being mean didn’t justify a thrown milkshake? Really?
Taking a glance to her partner, it seemed Elias agreed with the other girl. Since when couldn’t you throw things at people? That was like… the average thing to do in Elementary school, only escalating at her middle and high school. Now this was a school of WEAPONS. How could you NOT throw something? Seeing as Elias had confused her only more, she returned her gaze to the steaming Sable just in time to watch her banana get hit right from her hand. This action was accompanied by more words.
Now, Jo didn’t really have a problem with the girl. She thought a pointy stick was shoved too far up her ass, but she didn’t really have a problem. Now, saying that throwing something was cowardice was just funny. Enough so, that Jo didn’t stop herself from laughing this time. Most of the banana already having been swallowed in her moments of confusion, Jo merely let her banana squish to the ground as she burst into laughter at the other girl’s comment.
Sliding her hands into her denim pockets, she kicked her left foot forward, kicking the banana peel and sloppy banana ever so much closer to Sable.
“If throwing things defines a coward, then I’m the biggest coward ever!”
Laughter still hung in her words, though the burst had mostly settled. An easy smile rested on Jo’s face again. Amusement versus the raging demon before her. Jo couldn’t even begin to understand why the girl was so mad, but clearly she didn’t understand anything. Throwing things. Cowardice. HA!
“Maybe you should throw things more often. You might be less angry.”
To Jo, this was a simple, helpful opinion. While her own little joking/mocking voice was always intact when she had that grin on her face, she really hadn’t meant it as anything condescending. Now try telling any normal person that. Especially one that was ready to set the world on fire.
