"Today's the day" Zane thought to himself as he was preparing to leave the city with his meister Kaylin. Today was sort of a special day, special in the since that he was excited that it had finally came, the day where he and Kaylin would practice together so they may be able to fight as one and would finally be able to take part in missions. How on earth would he get Kaylin to focus on this, who knew, but he wasn't going to give up easy, luckily today was one of those days where she would just follow him around.
As he was near the end of the city, he stopped. He looked through the 2 backpacks he was carrying to make sure he had enough food and water. After a few minutes of checking their supplies he was ready to finally set out. Thoughts of them being able to fight anyone raced through his head. He pictured different scenarios of fighting witches and how they would be an unstoppable team. Zane's face lit up with excitement, and with a happy confident voice he turned to his meister and said.
"Let's go"
They made there way to the desert, but why the desert? It will be hot and theirs nothing really out there, and that perniciously why he chose it as a place to train. There would be nothing out there to distract Kaylin's focus and as for the heat it was a good way to condition themselves. A good meister and weapon could fight in any condition presented to them, and today's heat was particularly hotter then normal so it would great practice to see how they would handle the heat. That is why he brought so much water in case of dehydration.
Amazingly by some weird miracle, Zane has managed to get Kaylin to keep following him as they traveled though the desert. Along the way she kept getting side tracked by EVERY little thing. He had to keep her focused, so every minute or two he had to make sure she was following him and if she was great! If not he had to make some silly face or find some random things on the ground to keep her following.
During their walk, at some point Kaylin jumped on Zane's back and began to ride him, something that was quiet common for them. They've been partnered up a while now so things like this didn't real phase Zane, he would should walk with her on his back and not think twice about it. Another reason it never really bothered him was because she would only be on his back for a few seconds before jumping to something else.
Finally after the great struggle to get her out there they reached a perfect spot to begin training. He placed the backpacks down on the sand and said "Here we are". He crouched down and waited for Kaylin to get off his back.

ZANE WAS TAKING HER OUTShe couldn’t remember where he said they were going. Or why. Or how. Or what they were doing. But they were going out together! Always a good thing. Stuff was so much more fun with someone to do things with, especially when they willingly took part and enjoyed themselves! Anything he had said to her had flown in one ear and out the other. All the girl knew was that she was wearing her normal attire of boots, gloves, and jumpsuit, and that they were walking. Well…. Zane was walking. She was prancing about the sidewalk. A sprint to this trash can, time to tap a child on the nose, pick a flower (weed) growing in the cracks, put the flower in a woman’s hair, playing break everyone’s back by stepping on the cracks! Ah. So many things to do. What was more amazing is that she managed to remember to follow Zane. Well… that was more from the fact that he kept calling her attention to him. He had stopped briefly, looking through their bags to make sure they had everything they needed. This was, of course, lost on Kaylin. She hadn’t realized he brought a bag for her. She didn’t know he stopped. She didn’t know he was making sure of anything. Everything else was too much fun! Zane just didn’t know how to have fun. She’d show him. Running off into the sandy desert ahead of her partner, she certainly didn’t need any encouragement. Critters were out there. First she found a lizard. Bringing it back to him, holding it up to show him with both hands, the girl grinned from ear to ear. “Isn’t he beautiful?” The girl spoke, laughter echoing in her voice. The lizard obviously had no fun in being held. Struggling back and forth to get out of the girl’s odd hold. After about half a second of showing Zane, she took back off to where she found him. Letting the critter loose, he skittered away. And Kaylin raced off to the side. Zane continued to somehow drag her back in his direction. Whether she was showing him a new critter or he promised her fun, she somewhat stayed with him. All while chasing after animals and finding little desert treasures. Many animals she missed completely. Small mammals catching scent of her and taking off to their burrows. Snakes slithering away like swimming in the sand. Humming out of tune to an odd melody, Kaylin came skipping back to Zane. Then promptly launched herself onto his back. She only held onto him with one arm, her left, keeping hold to a new treasure she found. Still doing her odd humming, the girl paused to laugh every now and then, only to resume her humming. It didn’t last too much longer before Zane stopped of his own accord. He crouched down, something that usually happened that told her he had enough of her on his back. Giggling, Kaylin hopped backwards and off him, her left hand moving to cradle the treasure that she had such adoration for. “Zane! Look what I had found earlier!” Holding out both hands towards her meister in a cupped fashion, her bright grin still hadn’t faltered. The treasure moved. Slowly and cautiously, onto her wrist and starting up her right forearm. This allowed the girl to drop her left hand again, watching the critter and laughing quietly as she lifted her arm a bit to get a closer look at...well… a desert tarantula.

A blank stare, just a simple blank stare was all Zane could muster up as he looked at Kaylin. her hyper, whacky, uncontrollable personality was starting to make this difficult. What did Zane expect, he knew this would be a challenge, but he wasn't going to back down, he had his goal, try to make Kaylin focused enough to be able to work together in a fight. He really did have his work cut out for him, but he knew this time he had to be harsh on her otherwise they would get no where. Time for tough guy Zane.
Through out the time it took them to get to a spot, all Zane could do is just think of the ways he could get her focused, should he tie her down? Should he yell at her? All the possible ways he could think of could be instantly turned around and be interpreted by Kaylin as simply a "fun new game" . He had to play this smart, he had to get his point across to her, he realized that if he'd to come off mean then that's what it will take. After in a fight it could be life or death and if their not prepared to it could be all over for them. Once they reached the spot he knew what he would do.
As he placed the stuff down he looked at her, her cheery energetic nature poured shined, and she was fiddling with something in her hands. then she showed him the spider she was playing with. Her excitement was hard for him to try and be stern, after all they grown very close and it would be hard for him to take her out of her joy.
"Need to stay strong" he said to himself.
After a deep breathe he used his left hand to knock the spider out of her hands. He then stood there, almost trying to tower over her. His face was almost emotionless. With his left hand returned to his side he clenched his fists together as if he was going to punch someone.
"Kaylin, I'm sorry but no games today" He said in a almost angered voice while holding a stern face.
"We're not getting anywhere, we need to focus now, we're slowly following behind all the other teams we haven't even started a mission yet. We need to get this down or were hopeless."
He unclenched his fists and placed both his hands on her shoulder, he leaned forward just a little so he wouldn't be completely towering over her. As he looked at her eyes all Zane could do is hope that she wouldn't get angry with him, but this needed to be done, if his dream of being a death scythe were to come true, it had to be done. While looking at her he said in a less angered voice.
"Do you understand?"
This was the moment, would they finally come together as a team, or would he be left partner-less and possible lost a friend. Zane's eyes slowly shifted to her mouth to await her response

Little little spider spider.
“The little little spider flew up the water snout. Down came the pain and lost the spider pout. Out came the bun and dried out all the pain. And the little little spider flew up the snout again!”
Showing the creature to Zane, Kaylin began singing. For once, she wasn’t overly loud, though her pitchyness was sure to damage an eardrum or two. One would barely be able to recognize the destroyed nursery rhyme. As it began climbing up her arm, Zane swatted at the critter. Smile not leaving the girl’s face, she watched the tarantula fly a few feet away into the sand. Her eyes following it rather than focusing on her partner, the child merely giggled, soon followed by her talking.
“Oh Mr. Poo! You don’t have wings!”
Laughing to herself, the girl placed her hands on her hips and found her eyes back on her partner. He was talking. The first thing that really hit her ears was that he said ‘no games today.’
No Games?
Tilting her head to the left side, the movement was slow and she continued it. Tilting her head, then her shoulders, chest, side…. until she was bent over herself sideways, looking more up towards Zane now. What could that possibly mean? Of course he had kept talking, but that was of no importance! No games…. hm. A riddle maybe? She was no good at riddles. They were hard!
Chuckling to herself again, the girl straightened her posture just as he was finished speaking. That seemed helpful to him, for his hands soon placed themselves on her shoulders. Grinning largely, the girl still stared straight at him, but she believed she had figured it out.
OPPOSITES!
Only a silly pumpf would think there would be NO games in a day. It wasn’t possible! So… what was possible? Games ALL DAY. It must be opposite day. That was the game that lasted all day! If it was possible, her grin got larger. Body somewhat trembling with excitement, she wondered what other games her partner had in store!
Trying to seem to big to her, she found herself looking somewhat down at her. He spoke simply this time, not so many words. Do you understand? She did! It was a games day! But that meant opposites… so…
“Definitely not!”
The girl burst loudly, laughter mixing in her words. As she spoke, her hands shot up off her hips and clamped down on his hands on her shoulders.
“This is going to be an awful day with no fun! That’s why I brought you to the ocean!”
What was really quite amazing is that the girl could think of so many opposites at one time. A grinning child holding onto Zane’s hands and speaking. On top of all her opposites, she hadn’t bust away from him running….. yet

While Zane placed his hands on her shoulders, he felt her posture changed, her body stood straight. Thinking he had finally gotten through to her in some small way he gave off a smile for he accomplished one of the hardest challenges he had faced since arriving at school. Well at least smiled for the fact that he had truly taken another step closer in being able to become a Death Scythe. With Kaylin being focused he knew that they would be force to reckon with, with the thought of them taken down witches racing through his mine he was pumped to finally start the one on one training with her. Soon they'd be finally be ready to head out on missions together!
Then she spoke, and just like that his so called "accomplishment" quickly turned into what would be a LONG day ahead of him now.
“Definitely not!” she said followed by a burst of her laughing as if this was still some sort of game to her.
He felt her hands grab on top of his as they lay on her shoulders, as if she was going to do some nonsense and turn it into some sort of weird game she was going to make up. The smile on his face quickly escaped and was replaced with Zane having a straight face.
Shortly after, she began speaking what could only being taken as insanity to any sane person. Saying something about how this was going to be an awful day with no fun and how she brought him to the ocean.
"Ocean?... but were in the desert" he said with a confused expression.
He looked around, to glance at the surroundings, but all he could see was sand, clearly she had gone mad. Maybe the heat had gotten to her or perhaps this was another new game. Either way it was clear that a new tactic needed to used.
He slowly moved his hands from her shoulder, her hands still attached to his. This was the moment, time for Zane to think outside the box, he knew he would regret what was about to happen but this is his last plan for any hope of getting something done. With her hands still on his he slowly freed himself from her grip, and without warning he made a little jump and with a funny face he stuck his tongue out at her
"No fun? then how can we play any games! I just thought of a new little game we cane play together" he said in a silly voice.
As every word spilled out of his mouth he felt as if a part of him was dying, but he knew in some strange way that Kaylin was meant to be his partner, and he was willing to embarrass himself. So if he has to act like her to get her to somewhat train together, then that's what he will do, it is time for them to play the training game.

A smile pricked onto her partner’s face. Seeing as Kaylin had been staring directly at him, she magically was able to notice. It only encouraged her energy further. Her answer pouring from her mouth along with her laughter, her focus on him was fading quickly. She would remember that smile though. Zane was pleased!
By now she was doing her opposite string of words and was met with Zane’s straight face. Man was he good! Even making his face all grumpy instead of happy! She wasn’t sure she could compete with that determination, but it only sat with her for an instant. Kaylin couldn’t help that at all, she’d have to smile. Life was much too wonderful to waste trying so hard to not smile!
Zane said something about the ocean again, figuring he was just copying her. Giggling quietly, her mind was brought to his moving hands. Her stayed with him for a moment, but then he rid himself of her grip. Not that she much minded, she wasn’t attempting to hold him there or anything. Joy permanently etched into her expression, what happened next was not expected in the least.
Kaylin may not be the most predictable person or the smartest child, but she does have a way of recognizing other people’s patterns. Truth be told, it takes many many many many days to realize that someone may not smile when shown a handful of mud, but she eventually kind of understands… ish. So when Zane jumped, made a face, and stuck his tongue at her, her instant reaction was equally out of character.
Shifting her feet slightly in the sand, digging them deeper for stability, her hands both balled into fists. Left arm raised easily in front of her chest as in a ready position, her right fist shot out while Zane was speaking. By the time he got to ‘new little game’ her right fist would be mere centimeters from his face. The expression on her face would be just as surprising as the action. Though hints of her normal joyous self were present, she almost looked like she were determined, or focused. Or at least… trying to look that way.
Opposite day! Zane was fun and Kaylin was ready to go.
