Kali awoke with a stir. How long had she been asleep for this time and did it really matter? The tiger witch lived so far away from others she often slept most of her day away only really spending a few hours of her time awake and even then she might spend that time just lying around. Some might say that she was leading a very dull and boring life but for Kali this was the left she waned. She had already lived through more them some other witches in her younger years so now was the time that she could relax and just let life pass by.
The tiger witch didn’t bother to open her eyes yet as she rolled over onto her stomach and stretched out much like a cat would but something felt off. The bed she was normally used to sleeping felt odd. She slowly opened her eyes to look down at the blue sheet under her. Well this was right at all her bed was covered in red sheet and she was sure that she had fallen asleep on her bed. She pushed herself into a half sitting pose as she peered through the sheer fabric that draped around this unknown bed. Her golden eyes scanned the room and while she knew the lay out as her own room it was clear something had happened.
The objects around the room where not hers and seemed much older then she remembered. She slowly moved to the edge of the bed pushing back the fabric that surrounded her with the back of her hand. Her eyes still scared the room as she grabbed the lose saree cloth that lay next to her and placed it back on her body. Her bare feet meet the cold stone floor as she stood up.
”Shiva?”Kali called out for her tiger, who was never far from her, but she got no replay from him. Worry started to fill her chest as she looked around the room not moving things to the side. Where could he be? Shiva never left her side for long and he would never leave her side while she slept. Something was wrong. Something was very wrong. Kali ran to the old wooded door in the room and flung it open almost taking it off the wall.
”SHIVA!”She looked down the extremely well lite and decorated hall but still no response from her lover. She took a few steps out into the hall now looking around. This couldn’t be her home, could it? While it was true that the inside of the old temple that she called home was covered in gold and old statues it was nothing like what she was looking at right now. The walls where still gold but pictures and tapestries lined them and old relics of the past stood where her statues once stood.
”Where am I? Where is Shiva?””You are in the house of a Goddess and I can only wonder how it is you got this far in?”Kali spun around at the sound of the woman’s voice. The tiger witch’s eyes grew wide as she took in the site of the woman that stood not too far away from her in the hall. She was the most beautiful creature she had ever seen. Skin dark like Kali’s and black hair but hers was long and curly. In the curls of her hair was woven jewels and gold and on the top of her head sat a golden
crown of the Goddess. She wore a very similar saree as Kali but hers just seemed older. But it was her face and eyes and Kali noticed the most. Her eyes where golden likes hers and had the same tiger like look to them and her facial fetchers were almost the same as Kali’s. Kali took a step back looking at this woman and the words slipped from her lips before she could stop them.
”M-mother?”The other witch cocked her head at this looking Kali over. Her golden eyes scanning Kali’s form now as she drew closer to this new witch. Kali didn’t move as her mother walked around her taking in her sight. The woman had a calm look on her face as she reached the front of Kali again and gave her a smile.
”Mother? Well this seems very interesting to my knowledge my daughter is still but a baby. What is your name my dear?”Kali’s blood felt like it turned to ice now. How did this happen? It seemed like Kali had somehow gone back in time and now she was face to face with her mother and it seemed like her baby self wasn’t that far away as well. Kali gave a bow to the woman showing her respect. She couldn’t remember much about her mother only the fact that she too was a tiger witch and that she was very powerful but that still couldn’t save her mother in the end. Kali rose again looking to her with a bit of a sadden look on her face.
”My name is Kali, Kali Bengali and I know this must sound mad but I am your daughter. I have somehow come back from my time into yours. I thought… I thought I would never see you again…”The woman looked a littlest bit surprised at this as she reached out her hand and gently cupped Kali’s face looking her in the eyes now. She started for what seemed like eternity but Kali did not move her eyes from hers.
”You are my Kali my little death Goddess...”The woman closed the gap between her and Kali and wrapped her arms around her bringing the tiger witch into a hug. Kali’s body froze as she looked at the side of the woman’s face. She slowly relaxed and returned the hug resting her head on her mother’s shoulder.
”Mother I have missed you so…”Kali’s mother gently reached up patting the back of her head.
”Ssshhh child whatever do you mean? Have I abandoned you like so many other witch mothers?”At this Kali pulled back looking at her shaking her head lightly as a sudden and unexpected wave of emotion washed over her. Tears began to form in her eyes and she could feel them roll down her face now. Her mother looked on with a confused look as she reached up and whipped them away with back of her hands.
”Come child tell me what is upsetting you so? If I didn’t abandon you then why do you stand before me and cry?”Kali’s face softened at her mother’s words of concerns. She was unlike the other witches much in the same way that Kali was. She reached out slowly and took mother’s hands into hers not wanting to look at her now.
”Mother years from now something will happen that will take you away from me…””And what could possible happen that would separate the two of us?””…A weapon and meister team will find us… I sadly don’t remember much from that day but what I do remember is that you gave your life to save me. Something I know now most witches wouldn’t do for their children. Why? Why will you do such a thing?”A sweet and loving smile passes over the other tiger witch’s face as she pulls her hands from Kali’s and bring her back into a hug a firm yet comforting one. She whispers in her daughter’s ear now as she closes her eyes.
”Because I am unlike any witch that has a child. I love you Kali. I will always love you and I will do anything to make sure that you may live and grow up one day. I want you to become a powerful witch even if it cost my life. I am a mother first and a witch second. Maybe one day you will understand that a mother will do what she must to protect her child.”
