The forest really was a beautiful place. Nature was lovely. Birds chirped in the trees, a soft breeze blew. It was almost magical. Almost. Nothing could compare to the girl’s love for water. For the ocean. Death City, Nevada had no such place. Sure, the school had a pool. And that was a real life saver. But oh how the little witch longed for the ocean. Still, this was beautiful. Niina just felt a calling to be out from the hustle and bustle of people today! She loved people. Each and every one she met. But today was for her. To enjoy life and breathe it in. Her steps were light as she moved through the forest this morning. There was still a chill in the air, if you could call it that. The sun not having baked the land yet, and not nearly as quickly in the wooded areas. A gentle smile held to the girl’s features. Picking up flowers as she moved along, there seemed to be no rush. No time holding her back. The weekend was perfect for her to just move freely. She would have to meet up with Fritz sometime this weekend, maybe even today. But for now, she would just swim through the world’s time. Love every moment. See what was around her. Having gathered a small collection of brightly colored flowers, ranging from reds to yellows to pinks, she sat herself down on the forest floor. A small critter could be heard scurrying farther away across the ground. Birds flitting back and forth between branches above. Niina was sure so much more life went unnoticed. And that comforted her. The light and the life surrounding. Her hands working at the flowers that now sat in her indian style, cross legged, lap. She seemed to be making something, or at least trying. Once again, she did not look rushed nor stressed. Her hands moved fluidly, easily, and slowly. Not a care in the world, the girl maneuvered the small plants.

”Ah, what great weather. ♪”
A tone of playfulness entered the air, the person it came from was sitting on the lowest branch of a willow tree. He was perched on the lowest branch of a willow tree, his back pushed against the thick trunk as his mind slowly drifted into his days at Shibusen. Curious azure blue eyes began to gaze up at the sky. It was another thing not very different from being back at France, it was certainly warmer than that European weather he grew accustomed to, something that young guitarist was grateful for. Different as things here may have been, that didn’t mean that everything was, a fact he was still grateful for, even now.
He wasn’t even quite aware why he was in the forest at this time, it was still very early morning, the dew that formed over night had yet to dry from the emerald forests that it attacked in the sun’s absence. “This would have been a great opportunity to jam…” He mumbled to himself, aware of the Spanish guitar he had left on the ground level of the forest whilst climbing. Oh well, he was sitting up there now, he could have simply climbed down and jumped back up but it felt much easier to simply lament about his situation now. He simply lacked his trusty guitar, it didn’t mean that he couldn’t use those skills his grandfather embedded into his skull during their times travelling.
A deep breath left his lungs, his ears shot up as they began to pick up the sounds of birds reached into the inner depths of his brain. A plethora of songs danced through the branches as they hid the gregarious creatures, every now and then one or two would take flight to greet the Sun once it took its place as king of the skies. “There it is.” He spoke once more, he lifted cupped hands over his mouth whilst his attention completely fixated on the sound of one particular bird. It's vocalisations came to him in the form of a “song,”. First it was the variety of squawking noises, slowly transitioning into a brief 'Prik!'
“Krrp! ♪”
Kaine exhaled almost effortlessly, releasing a high-pitched tone. He believed that the sound he imitated was the one of an American Coot. Years of learning this type of stuff from his grandfather certainly made his lonely nights entertaining, however being compared to a professional like his elder it made him look like a budding young flower with an uncanny talent. He thought about it as the minutes went by, slowly. What would he call this time? A bird or perhaps someone curious?

Sound after sound came to the girl’s ears, each one being a comfort. The natural sounds of life filled her with glee as she sat ever so happily on the forest floor. Time passed slowly but not mercilessly as the girl touched the plants in her lap ever so delicately. She didn’t seem to be getting much progress on her small task, but it also wasn’t discouraging her. Niina was still smiling, a tune being sung consistently in her head. Every now and again, a simple humming sound could be heard from the girl. Quiet, and a single note here and there, but it was a part of a much larger melody in her head.
A faint noise not known to her as a sound of nature briefly entered her mind, but was instantly dismissed. Probably something she hadn’t heard correctly or was making up. Maybe even she made the noise and was being too sensitive! Chuckling to herself, she gathered the flowers in her arms once again and straightened out her legs. Give a happy sigh, she fell back, flattening her back against the ground. The flowers toppled from her hold, covering her upper body with colors and petals. Her gaze upwards, she looked for little bits of movement from above.
And there a sound was again. A bit of curiosity crossing her face for a brief second, the girl turned her head to the side. Was it possible that someone else was here with her? She hadn’t seen anyone as of yet, and a great many students avoid the trees for some crazy reason. Like trees would attack them! Ha! Giggling to herself again, Niina had seen no abnormal sign of life among the calmness of the forest.
But there it was again!
Up on her feet in a blink of an eye, flower petals scattered themselves everywhere. They found places to hide in her clothing and arranged themselves haphazardly in the girl’s hair. With the same speed she had risen, she took off in the direction she suspected some one or thing to be. Her pace didn’t slow until she heard on last oddity. It was like a bird. But stranger. More… hollow sounding.
Stopping in her tracks, the blonde looked around for what may be mimicking such joy. Was this a game? Or maybe someone was just out enjoying nature as she was? Whatever the case, it didn’t take long for the girl to notice the instrument at the base of the tree. Two confused blinks, then realization hit her. Immediately she looked. A blond boy, probably similar to how she appeared in age, sat in the tree.
A bright grin appearing on her face, the girl took a few more steps, then a leap, to land on the lower branch of the willow tree. Crouched almost like she was a frog on a lillypad, she gave a wave with her right hand as she greeted the boy with a smile.
“Hi! I’m Niina Rivera! What has you out here, if I may ask?”
The girl had kept a bit of distance between them, enough to seem that she wasn’t crowding him. But she was obviously pleased to meet him.

”Krrp! Prik! ♫”
The bird calls littered the air with their pitchy noises, gradually weaving into a song that beckoned for his winged friends to complete the empty notes he purposely missed. The sun’s growing light softly shone through the gaps in the foliage, gracing Kaine’s pale skin which such warmth that it made him almost sleepy. “This would be perfect napping weather if it was noon~” He thought to himself, his cupped hands began to loosen in order to heighten the pitch of his bird call before suddenly clasping to provide the low to his high. It looked tricky but it honestly wasn’t, he promised! Kaine’s thoughts shifted from calling the American Coots from their nests to wondering if it’d be easier if he was some type of magical princess of sorts, frolicking in a beautiful dress woven by all the woodland critters as he bare feet felt the moist earth below. How weird.
He’d always find ways to humour himself during his random journeys or walks, he was young! Compared to his younger self trying to escape his garden, he’d stumble onto a truly wonderful world. A brisk breeze wafted over Kaine’s skin, spending a weak tingle down his spine, the temperature slowly began to rise with the appearance of the sun. However, it wasn’t the world that brought the chill across his body, it was but the appearance of a curious stranger who chose to follow his call. She spoke suddenly, shocking Kaine who hid it well by opening his eyes and slowly turning their gaze onto the mysterious stranger.
“Hi! I’m Niina Rivera! What has you out here, if I may ask?”
How quaint, she was friendly! She seemed to lack the usual chilliness that he felt from people mindlessly coasting through the cities and towns, was it because they both shared a fascination with nature? What else could it be? What called at them to immerse themselves within the green to find tranquility? Who know, perhaps he was thinking too hard over nothing, she probably came along for a walk or something. His gaze briefly widened to take notice that his presence could have been compromised by the guitar he had left resting at the tree’s base. No matter, he felt compelled to answer this girl’s question and greeting, she radiated a warmth that made him feel at ease, silencing any ideas of danger that would have crept up on his psyche.
“Oh hello! Nothing really, just wanted to witness the sky from somewhere different this time~”
He replied, meeting her smile with an even friendlier smile to put her at ease. He obviously meant no harm as blue eyes began to analyse the girl perched on a branch below him, her froggy posture oozed a bountiful amounts of energy. Upon closer inspection she had blonde hair which fell just under her shoulders, carrying traces of fallen petals whilst her attire consisted of a short dress, decorated with flowers which ranged from rose red to cream. The branch she landed on allowed the slithers of sunlight to shower her, making her pale skin tone glow, giving her the appearance of a mythical fairy who resided within the deep forests, stepping forth to greet strangers who intrigued her. The hands that were closely clasped began to relieve themselves from their duty, his left fell onto his raised left knee whilst his right kept itself occupied in anyway possible. He carefully brushed some loose strands of hair from his face as he pondered on his thoughts, surprising himself with what came out of his mouth next;
“…Are you human? I could almost mistake you for a nymph of some sort.”

It was a magical tune, the one that Niina followed. It didn’t hold the same quality that she had grown used to from birds and other small critters, but it was amazingly similar. If she wasn’t so completely sure that she was awake, the quick darting through the forest in search of some unknown being could have easily convinced someone that it was all a dream. While locating the individual responsible for the bird-like song certainly helped keep her grasp on reality, she had no trouble remembering that she really was one who loved everything around her. In the here and now, reality or dream.
Having perched herself on the tree limb, it was no surprise that she caught the attention of the young boy in the willow tree. It took him a moment, having to open his eyes and all, but Niina was very much joyous to see someone out here. True, she had meant to be alone and relax. But she would never say no to greeting a stranger! And that was exactly what she had done. To make the situation all the better, he looked none too surprised that she had shown up and very much not angry that she had interrupted his song. He even answered in a friendly manner, keeping a pleased smile on the blonde’s face. It was good to be welcomed in greeting. He seemed so kind.
Taking this as a sign that she was welcomed in his presence, Niina straightened from her crouched position, grabbed hold of the branch above her that the boy sat on and pulling herself up onto it. The smile had evaded her expression for this short bit. Not that the girl was unhappy, but one could see the bit of concentration that had taken place of her happiness at finding the lad. Instead of taking her crouched position as before, the girl let her legs fall on either side of the branch, straddling the tree and letting her feet kick back and forth lightly. Grin returning, Niina’s eyes once again fell on the boy.
She had left a bit of distance between them, not wanting to impose, but she was curious enough about him that she had merely left about four feet. At first her hands rested in front of her on the branch, the girl leaning ever so slightly forward onto them as she watched him with interest. One couldn’t say she was the most observant young woman, but she did have a fascination with people. And a people he was!
What came from the person across from her shocked Niina with the first question. Obvious surprise flooded her face, a trained eye may even detect a bit of concern. However, as the boy went on, the surprise easily melted into the happiness she had upon greeting him. Giggling joyfully, Niina shook her head. It was a grand thought. A nymph of the forest! Her background was certainly much darker and less… positive. Still, she had to answer him. And she wasn’t super fond of the whole lying business.
“Just Shibusen’s Key Technician, at your service!”
The mere thought of Fritz was exciting. Her new and beloved partner. She had only known him a short while, but every bit of her was sure they were going to be great friends and do awesome things! They would be such a light for the world and she couldn’t even wait to see. But, she had to remain in the forest! Silly her. This boy was in front of her and it would be rude to distract herself from him.
“How about you? Are you casting some sort of magic on nature?”
A light smile on her face, Niina brought her hands off the tree branch to very vaguely copy what Alistair had been doing with his bird calls. Merely the hand positions, very sloppy and in no way effective. She made no attempt at a call. Dropping her hands from her face just a few inches, the smile could be easily seen. But she also looked expectant. Not only waiting for a name or answer to his own human question, but maybe he would also teach her this awesome talent of his.

A wave of ease came over the Meister. An hour ago he was resting up in a tree and now he was slowly making friends with a mysterious stranger named Niina. Her kindness was radiant, mirroring people he met during his journeys through the Americas. It was funny, during his childhood his friends would tell him to watch out for those ‘Americans’, an arrogant bunch they were, vulgar and much more. It was obviously prejudice, the people that he had encountered provided warmth in the words, similar to this girl and her magical smile. It was… carefree, almost as if the world gave her the warmth and love she needed to survive. Still, even warm smiles could hide the coldness within one’s being. He listened intently to her reply, his posture relaxed whilst his ears perked up with amusement at her words. By now there were twenty birds taking flight into the sky, their musical cries composed a melodious tune comprised of screeches and chirps.
Her words didn’t betray her personality and visible emotions, her voice was soothing with a mixture of innocence and curiosity. However, it didn't stop there! Her boldness became known as without a second thought she effortlessly climbed onto his branch like a bouncy little monkey, leaving her crouching position to further enjoy the company he provided her. She kept her posture leaned towards him as she straddled the branch waiting for the boy’s reply. It gave off a sense of intrigue at whatever came out of Kaine, it brought an even bigger smile to his face that this girl was a people person!
“Key Technician? Knowing Shibusen I’d assume that it isn’t a run of the mill key is it?”
He’d taunt playfully, the general idea that out of all weapons to be partnered up with someone who transformed into a key left much to the imagination? How ‘key-like’ was he? Was it just a sword in the shape of a key? So many questions rushed through his head but one realisation called out to him through the noise “You forgot to introduce yourself fool!”. At times his carefree attitude got the best of his time, losing himself in his thoughts as Nina spoke to him again, questioning his motives and whether he was human himself. Human? What an odd question, he was happy to question someone else’s humanity but when he was questioned about the same thing it fell on deaf ears. What would you class as a human? A surging wave of questions and curious thoughts swashed against the metaphorical beach of his mind, consuming his senses as his body in reality remained motionless, almost lost in his thoughts to people who had the misfortune of putting him in his state. Out of nowhere he opened his mouth whilst his body jolted back into the conversation with the stranger.
“Ah darn! I forgot to introduce myself, I’m Kaine Griffard, human, bird caller and Meister at your service!”
A musical wisp carried itself on the words that left Kaine’s mouth. It was always a breath of fresh air to converse with others, opportunities were common but at the same time finding someone fascinating like this girl was rare, he’d dedicate himself to keeping her smiling and he brought forth a key from the darkness of his pockets. Its appearance was nothing spectacular, it was a regular dormitory key, modern and made of a dull metal. However, upon closer inspection there hung a keychain that had a silver Shinigami mask attached to it. There was nothing special about the keychain itself, it just gave an unusual yet iconic charm to an item which did nothing but open the door to his room. He’d hold it before Nina in a teasing manner, intently watching as she mimicked his previous actions, before quickly giving up before he had the chance to guide her onto the right track. “So is it similar to something like this?” a mischievous smile rustled through his lips as he eagerly waited for the Meister to respond.

It was good to be reminded that there were such kind hearted people. It was much of her reasoning behind believing there was good in everything. It just had to be found and chosen. A silver lining, a light, the good. This boy seemed to have found his light quite effectively. As she spoke to him, her heart just warmed at the sight of him being so accepting. Niina sincerely loved people and it was always enjoyable to be appreciated back! Each and every person was different, and not everyone clicked with her, she realized and accepted such facts but it would never dull the moments where she met people that could just sync with her.
The teasing that came from her new found friend didn’t bother her a bit. A key! Fritz was indeed a key. Niina wasn’t sure how any weapon at the school could be considered run of the mill, but she guessed that was all part of the joke. It was an amazing and strange place to be, even from her own crazy background. The girl straightened her posture a bit, taking her hands away from the branch and holding them straight out from her sides. She tries to measure the distance that she thought Fritz might be in key form. From one hand to another. Maybe… five feet. Eyeing her hands carefully, the girl giggled just faintly as she tried to picture her partner but also give this other boy a better idea of her beloved friend.
“Well.. he’s.. Basically this big! But really kind of key-y”
Using her hands to roughly measure out Fritz’ weapon length, she looked to Kaine happily, as if she had succeeded greatly. But her hands soon dropped after she mentioned his size, laughing then after she said he was key-y. She didn’t really know how to explain it. He was… a key. It was very fitting and she really didn’t know how to explain him. Even more, she had only really handled him that one time at the pool. Maybe his weapon form did have some odd quirks that she didn’t know about. Hm…
When Kaine spoke up again, Niina couldn’t help but giggle, bringing a hand to her mouth as the other settled itself back onto the bark of the tree. Resuming her legs kicking easily back and forth, her attention was relaxed and completely on Kaine. It wasn’t like they had gone on all that long without him introducing himself. They were still in the introductions phase! Besides, Niina would have asked sooner or later. She would have really wanted to know what to call him. Her amused grin relaxed some, though the flash of interest was unmistakable as he mentioned his bird calling talent. He was so very neat!
“Wonderful to meet you! Your bird calling is marvelous. I’m more of a talker of fish, myself. I assumed you’re unpartnered? Are you new? How do you like it?”
She did truly seem happy to meet him. Only when she had climbed to his branch and measured out the key form had she taken her eyes off him. Even her comment on bird calling was heartfelt. The fish thing came natural to her, the whole witch/dolphin/water thing. And oh how she longed for the ocean… Regardless of that longing, she had chuckled once again after stating that her speaking with animals was much more intuned with the watery critters, causing only a slight pause before her barrage of questions. Once they were asked, her eyes would widen slightly as she placed her once hanging hand on top of the other on the branch, leaning forward a bit again.
“I’m sorry! I get carried away with myself. You don’t have to answer anything that prys or you don’t want to.”
And then he did something else she didn’t expect. A key. It was like he had just performed magic. Her eyes widening, her smile shifting so her lips formed a small ‘o,’ her eyes were on the key that he had produced. Then she would laugh. Leaning further on her hands that were placed on the tree. The sound would be light, full of joy, and hold the faintest melodic sound to it, but was probably more of a reaction than was necessary. It just hit her as funny. All this thought she was putting into Fritz and how to describe him, only to say he was key-y, and then there was a key produced! He obviously didn’t look like it. But it could be very similar!
The mischief in his smile was lost when she finally returned her attention to him. Smiling brightly, she would speak clearly and happily, with just a hint of her previous laughter.
“It’s amazingly similar! Though a ton smaller and a little less flashy. The keychain is priceless though~ Even Fritz has one! Though not Shinigami.”

A warm-hearted chuckle came from the boy, his emotions from the experience left him positive and willing to accommodate his fellow student’s bubbly behaviour. Such interactions reminded him of his insatiable curiosity, as a teenager and a child, always wanting to find something that’d engross his attention and allow him to lose himself. He had, many times during his journeys across the land but whether it was underwhelming or simply overwhelming he’d always find himself intrigued at the possibilities that swirled through each groove in his mind.
His felt slight dismay that Niina’s boundless energy allowed the student’s harmless teasing to deflect back onto him, the coy smile he playfully wore returned to a genuine smile of amusement and happiness. It somewhat saddened him that she was not a Weapon that he could claim for himself, oh what fun and hilarity they would have had! Still, the idea that they recently met and brought each other the warmth of newly found friendship was enough to tether him to he world of Shibusen once more. It left him fully awake and aware that if there were people like her around, the journey to becoming a powerful Meister would have been a bountiful one full of experiences that would stain the glass window he called his memories. Kaine felt his body relaxing as he inhaled and exhaled calmly, he was completely amused by Nina’s explanation of her partner, intently watching hand movements to estimate a size which completely bewildered the young student, his calm blue eyes would reveal a shimmer of surprise and fascination behind the calmness that was named Kaine Griffard. Her movements were so animated and the fact she felt at ease with a complete stranger made him feel at ease, she would compliment his talents with such honesty that blood slowly began to rush to his cheeks. One hand would return the keychain adorned key began into his deep pockets whilst the other lightly scratched at his hair, nervously accepting Niina’s compliments. “Awh shucks, you’re much too kind! My talents pale in comparison to my grandfather. If you truly wanted to hear the melody of the birds then he’d be your guy.” softhearted chuckles left his mouth as curious ears perked up at one particular sentence from the blonde haired student.
“Speaking… to fish? I wasn’t even aware that was possible!”
What an odd thing to master! There were many things that could have been adept at but the sheer idea of talking to the creatures that dwelled within the blue was baffling! “Was grandfather aware of such a talent?” His conscious would question its vessel before further pondering on what Niina said. Silence would befall the two for a brief moment, one would be lost in thought while the other… well who knew, Kaine wasn’t a mind reader.
“Getting carried away is fun when your intentions are innocent.”
Such bold words would eliminate any traces of worry or fear from curious minds as a soft smile followed in pursuit. His body also followed as the crouching position he once found comfort and relaxation was now upright and slouched against the large tree trunk before staring back into the woman’s eyes with curiosity. The world was much larger and varied than he had originally thought, it was fascinating. Her reaction spoke volumes without her even speaking, illustrating a symphony of amazement, relief and general amusement at the situation the two got themselves into. He would merely laugh along with the Meister, further explaining her partners Weapon form whist pointing out his similarities to his own dorm key. Her ability to ignore his teasing was pretty astounding, was it perhaps just the way she was or was she just great at ignoring it?
“Oh? Mind telling me how you met such an interesting fellow? How did you make him your partner?! I’m so curious!”

Not once did this boy make her feel uncomfortable. Not that she expected to feel such a way, she had met so many wonderful people in such a short time at Shibusen! The blonde just sort of figured that eventually she would run into someone that didn’t want her presence or would much rather try to get on her nervous than smile along with her. So far, this wasn’t the case with Kaine. He seemed just as happy and excited to be with her as she was with him. Even while she gave a wild attempt at showing her partner’s size with her hands, moving about like a fish out of water, he didn’t look unsettled or displeased with her. If anything, she hoped he enjoyed her company all the more. When she let him know how his bird calling was wonderful, Niina noticed the faint blush run to his cheeks.
While she might not be the most observant female in the world, she certainly paid attention to those she was spending time with. Watching Kaine, she noticed the change right away. For a brief moment she wondered if she had said something wrong. Thankfully, his words clearly expressed that she had only embarrassed him a bit. Her expression was obviously relieved and happy.
“I honestly can’t compare, since all I’ve heard is you~ If I play my cards right, maybe I can hear a duet someday?”
The girl’s grin was hopeful and joyous, a sincere want that maybe she would be able to behold such a wonder. While she knew that could be a slim chance, seeing as she didn’t know where the other man lived or if he was even still breathing, Niina took none of this into account in the moment because she merely wished for the joy and wonder such an experience might bring.
A very obvious alteration in her joyous expression was brought about when he spoke next. He commented on her fish speaking. Instantly the girl turned a light shade of red, getting a bit flustered with herself as she attempted to stammer out an explanation amidst nervous giggles.
“Well, they don’t really speak to everyone… heh. B-but they listen real good!”
Was that less incriminating? She sure hoped so… The girl may even look a fraction worried as she tried to explain/cover up her fish tales. She indeed could talk to fish. Most of this occurred when she was actually in her fish form, but she often talked to her fish in the dorm rooms quite a lot. Even if he didn’t answer back. That was a great way of dealing with the dark… To distract herself with friendly, fishy, chitchat.
Her nervousness soon melted away with Kaine’s assurance that her getting carried away wasn’t an issue. He stated it with more joy and the mention of fun, but she was very appreciative. A sheepish grin, the girl began twirling her blonde hair with her right hand that she took from the tree bark. This boy was quite lovely to spend time with. It reminded her of how much she missed Nina.. They had such awesome times together. Sebastian… wasn’t as fun. He was more dependent than anything. Not that she didn’t love the boy to death but… she couldn’t laugh with him. Her mind distracting her briefly from Kaine, a quick flash of mixed negative and concerned emotions flitting through her eyes as she thought of Sebastian, the girl would soon realize she was being mentally rude. Snapping back into reality. The key, her partner, she explained him briefly and with joy. Fritz was an amazing boy as well. Every moment she would think of Kaine and Fritz would be a blessed reminder that she could spend time at a wonderful place such as this.
Since his teasing earlier had gone right over her head, Niina found nothing unusual about his questioning her partner. Instant excitement and joy came to the girl. Releasing her hair, the girl leaned back slightly as she brought her legs up from dangling in the air. Niina quickly crossed them beneath her body, only briefly looking as if she might topple backwards before she settled her balance and sat oddly crosslegged on the branch.
“I met him at the pool! The best place in this whole city!”
Laughing happily, the girl’s hands settled upon her knees, rocking a bit back and forth and quite amazingly not teetering to one side or the other to threaten her falling.
“I love water, he loves water. We both absolutely love the ocean. It was like a match made in heaven. He asked if I wanted to try to weild him to practice synchronizing souls, we hit it off, and now we are meant to battle the darkness to help spread the light!”
The more she spoke, the more excited she got. She even began to shake a little. Beaming with happiness, the girl shifted again. Hopping onto her feet, holding her arms out to her side as she balanced on the branch. If she flapped, she’d look like she would take off like the other birds did. Giggling, she focused completely on Kaine again.
“I actually felt as comfortable with him as I do with you. You’re very happy and friendly. I’m glad to have met such a wonderful bird caller in the woods today~ Hopefully you don’t mind me sticking by you for a bit?”
She didn’t look at all worried when she asked that question. She was quite confident that her and Kaine were getting along as well as it seemed they were.
“Hopefully you like the water! Or we might not be able to be friends!”
She chimed in as an afterthought, laughing with her own little joke.

The boy quietly smiled as Niina complimented him once more, he felt comfortable with the sweet words spoken to him but embarrassed that he received so much praise from a mere stranger! Were Shibusen students just this polite and embracing? Maybe she was just one in a hundred when it came to quirky characters in the fairy-tale of a school, providing curious and warm souls with amusement, companionship and just a tether to the humanity he could eventually lose one day.
“Only if you help me find him. He disappeared on me!”
The words that came from his mouth were soft-spoken before exploding into an exclaiming of brief panic before reverting to his relaxed persona again. His expression balanced between the realm of legit and put-on, he cared deeply about his grandfather but deep down he knew that the man was more than capable when it came to dealing with life by himself, instilling a young but excitable Kaine with courage and his insatiable curiosity. The times of living as an apprentice were enjoyable but they had ended, it was time for Kaine to carve his path without his grandfather. Despite thinking so intently about his family member and the gifts he provided him, he listened to Niina’s words nonetheless, giving a devilish smirk to his new friend when he pointed out the obscurity of her special talent.
Her words were disjointed, filled with cracks of nervousness and brief panic, soon melting away as she heard the young Meister’s polite remark. “So… what do they talk about?” Kaine asked, he made that the aura of assurance that radiated from his being remained, hoping that it would lull out more information out of Niina without her freaking out. His playful hand found itself running through the waves of blond hair that grew out of his head as he slumped downwards back into a position which mirrored the self proclaimed ‘Key Technician’, almost losing his balance but it didn’t matter, he recovered flawlessly!
“Destroying the darkness? I like that ideology! So noble, its like you’re the heroes of your own story!”
The enthusiastic flurry of words wouldn’t shock many but the fact that they came from Kaine was odd, he grew more and more passionate to mirror his excitement that he had gotten the opportunity to just learn more about this woman’s profession and beliefs. When she explained her rationale for fighting she bounced upwards to a standing position, her emotions whereat an all-time high as she pretended to balance on the thick branch as if it was a tightrope or such, mimicking movements to portray her freedom. Without a second thought she had spoke onto him, proclaiming that she too appreciated the sudden kinship they had been forged, why would it have to end when they departed? His warm smile began to widen until both rows of teeth were shown as her words touched him deep down. He was left in awe by her boldness, the rising sun had begun to illuminate everything in a golden light, bringing the question; ‘How long have we been here?’ into Kaine’s mind. It didn’t matter though, the time that had been occupied certainly wasted, he made a friend and expanded his perspective on life in Shibusen. It was pretty easy to summarise his experience so far; fun. He would be prepared for the bad times but for now he was just happy to meet people that he’d be able to add into his circle. The sun’s light enveloped her back as her facial features disappeared by the prominent shadows, standing before Kaine was just a mere figure that invited him into the chaos that would unfold if he chose to stay on this rollercoaster. Why would he want to get off?
He spoke up to reply to Niina’s words with his own, remaining polite while trying to remove the burst of happiness that came from his smile, his free right hand would block out the remaining sunlight from his vision as he began to look upwards. She wasn’t wrong, they got along splendidly.
“I have no issues with that, I was going to ask you something similar! If only you were a Weapon, we could have been quite the pair!”
A laugh followed her words, his smile chose not to leave his face anymore, instead he remained fixed in place comfortably whilst waiting for a response. Like her he chose to quickly chimed in with his answer to her question.
“But yes, I am pretty fond of the ocean, my hometown gave me the privilege to do so!”

Disappeared?
An instant look of concern would come to the blonde’s face. Why on earth would his grandfather disappear? What had happened to him? Was it intentional or an accident? Did he need help being found? So many thoughts ran through the young witch’s mind, reasons for what this new found friend has said and options for how she might respond to him. Her expression would soon soften and she’d return to her easy smile, though this time with a hint of comfort.
“I’d gladly help you find him. Then you can both sing me the tune of the birds.”
Niina was always sincere when it came to helping others. If it meant bringing an ounce of good or joy to someone’s life, she would go anywhere out of her way to help them get that piece of goodness. It broke her heart to think that someone Kaine loved was not in his life. That he had vanished somewhere and Kaine couldn’t find him. But soon the boy’s demeanor would return to that of teasing and playfulness. A smirk returning to his face, hinting at antics yet to come. He had commented on her fish talking. And even though she had tried to get it dismissed and got quite flustered, he still asked a question!
Pulling gently at a lock of her blonde hair, the girl would once again fall into a more awkward state. Niina had a way of moving through her emotions way too easily, one minute happy go lucky and the next flustered, and with little cause. It helped her to bounce back repeatedly, but with her constant changing emotions on her sleeve, it often proved draining for others. For the time being, Kaine seemed unaffected, for which the girl would have been grateful if she at all realized her own shortcomings. Currently she was in a mixture of embarrassed and excited, twirling her hair in her fingers again, she’d reply in bursts of short and fast, trying to speak happily of her friends but uncertain of what she should actually tell him.
“They say lots of things! It really depends on the fish. Certain types tend to have different patterns too. They’re sort of like people, but with less of an urge towards darkness and chaos.”
Grinning as she thought of these wonderous creatures, she’d release her own hair and give a decisive nod at the end of her short explanation. That seemed right to her. Fish were wonderful and hardly swayed by madness as people were. They existed, lived, and were happy. … for the most part. Some fish were SUPER grumpy. Chuckling at her own thought of grumpy fish, Niina was overjoyed to hear that Kaine liked her little statement.
“I want to help anyone I can. Bring light and help to those who are lost. Show people the good there is in the world and that it’s worth striving for.”
The girl was obviously pleased with her own thought process and that Kaine had agreed with what she said so far. The heroes bit had sort of escaped her, she had never quite thought of herself as a hero of a story. If she would have at all thought about it, she would have wanted to be the guiding light. Or helpful friend. Not the main part, but a piece to be trusted and good.
This boy was also one to trust and be good. Niina could feel it. On her feet now, arms still out to her sides, she really needn’t worry about falling, but it didn’t hurt to keep everything so open and free! Kaine’s smile was so encouraging to her way of life. His joy only seemed to enhance hers. She would have flown around the skies if she could! Like a little bird! The feelings only escalated when Kaine commented on how he felt the same! Giggling to herself, she’d drop her arms and clasp them gently behind her back before leaning forward ever so slightly. He had covered his eyes with a hand so she thought the change of position may assist in whatever light was attempting to attack his eyes.
“I’m sure we can still accomplish great things together, even if we weren’t destined to be a meister and weapon pair. What is your goal in joining this school? Are you a bringer of light to the darkness?”
Her last bit of the question almost sounded teasing, though he may have caught on by now that she was simply happy. Niina had certainly referenced her own words, but she was excited to hear his take on what he could accomplish by coming to Shibusen. It was a different road for everyone. She chose light simply for light. Others wanted power. Or glory. Freedom and possibly just hard work. What was his path?
Her jaw dropped at his mention of the ocean. She couldn’t help it. She missed the water so. The salty fragrance and taste, the cool of the water and the heat of the sun. Creatures swimming around her. Ugh. It was a wonderful place.
“Where are you from?! We should go visit a beach so soon. I miss it!”
