It was about time. There were books she had read, articles, even classes that revolved around what she had her mind on. Soul Resonance. Between her and Levi. They had proven compatible so far, he had been able to wield her mostly successfully, they had taken down a few kishin eggs, and were even a star higher. Levi was certainly strong enough to take another step forward, but she wondered whether he had the control. On the other hand, she felt she had the control… but could she handle that wavelength in a different way? A brief spark of memory reverberated through her mind and seemingly her whole body. That first time she had felt his soul, been in his hands. It was best described as a shock. She hadn’t felt it since, but it was one of the oddest things she had experienced in her life. One could barely call it a physical pain… it was just… different. If that came at her again, in different ways, she wasn’t sure how long she could take that. Sighing quietly, she let her expression sit into that empty look. Taking a single swing at a dummy with her right arm, her fist landed square in its ‘face.’ She had to calm down and she had to be ready. Class had ended not too long ago. Having spoken briefly to her partner before he could get his princely butt home, or wherever he went, she felt she had indeed succeeded in convincing him to come train with her. Trying to keep it simple, mention how it could make him stronger against newer opponents, or at least give him another thing to get better at, she hoped he would actually show up. Her fist returned closer to her body, both arms held easily in front of her, bent at the elbow, fisted, and ready to strike. She had no real form present, just relaxed and ready. Taking a silent breath in and exhaling slowly, she shifted her weight evenly from one foot to the other. Eyes on the dummy, mind on what lay ahead. Her left fist swung and hit the target. What might their resonance be like? And her fist returned to her. Could they even succeed in a day at something like this? Her right fist plunged forward. What if he ended up re-- Halting her thought, she brought her right hand back to her and opened up both her fists. A keen eye would catch a small bit of shaking in her hands as she brought them to her head. Running her fingers through her hair as she pushed it back and away from her face, her eyes glanced towards the door. All she had to do was wait for Prince Levi Kastein.

For whatever reason Levi had expected two star classes to be better than those of one stars, and of course he was disappointed. Sure they were smaller and filled with fewer peasants but that hardly made the others in the class remarkable. It was his own fault though, he shouldn’t have expected anyone to be anywhere near tolerable enough for him. At the very least it was better than being surrounded by all the trash that just happened to wander into the school with no skill what so ever. With class over at the least he could get away from all the commoners but before he got the chance Irene intercepted him.
Her words were odd but he got the general idea. Make his stronger against new enemies? He was already stronger that the trash they had fought! Something new to get better at? He was already the best at everything! Regardless of the words her intention was what actually mattered. She wanted to train something new, not a bad idea. He didn’t think they needed something new to face whatever showed up on a mission but the easier it was to kill them the less time they would waste.
Deciding to just meet her at the dojo later he went to rid himself of being around the commoners for a moment. Wandering around the school grounds he made his way away from anyone around him and focused on his own thoughts. The only thing that matched what she mentioned was a resonance. It didn’t seem necessary but simply having one would solidify their position above the multitudes of students, plus there was the whole making them stronger aspect. The strength came from him, or more specifically them, so it was more about bringing it out and didn’t bother him as such.
The mild need for more power pissed him off though. Obviously he was still the best and strongest but after the last mission there was a use for more. They were already strong but not overwhelmingly so, and he wanted to be. Even with stupid tricks and luck he should be able to crush the enemies he faced, especially when they ended up being generally weak once their tricks were beat. Having a resonance might be that little extra to completely crush anyone they faced in the future. With that possibility it was more than worth it to learn the thing.
Venturing back towards the dojo Levi went over what he knew about resonances. It was something he had admittedly paid little attention to but he still had enough of an idea of how it worked. Matching wavelengths and whatnot wasn’t exactly his strong suit but he was confident enough that he could pull it off. Feeling his wavelength it had been stable as of late so that shouldn’t be a problem. The only real concern he had was the matching of wavelengths. Clearly he and Irene were compatible but being able to wield her and matching their wavelengths to near the same level were different things entirely.
Reaching the dojo he paused and opened the door with his hand instead of kicking it open like usual. The sensation was odd but he suppressed it to just a minor shaking in his arm. He didn’t need to draw the attention of everyone considering there was only one person inside. Walking in Irene was already there and waiting so they could get to training right away. Approaching his weapon there was little need to bother with formalities so he simply raised his sunglasses so they rested on his forehead before addressing her.
”So, what did you have in mind?”
This was her idea so she could start things off. Plus his understanding of the concept was probably less detailed, and if this was going to work they could use the specifics.

What worried her was that she might be waiting for nothing. No matter how she thought her partner had reacted or would react, he always found some way to surprise her. Him meeting her seemed to end as positively as she could expect, but… if he rethought it on the way there or found something better to do, she wondered if he would leave her there. It didn’t really matter what words came from her mouth, it always seemed to be the wrong thing to say. A little bit of a condescending smirk or a scoff, sometimes even flat out refusal at how it was below him. She couldn’t crack his insane code.
Having pushed her hair from her face, looked to the door even though no one had entered, she took a quick shake of her head and walked more towards the center of the room. Stretching her arms towards the ceiling, slowly and with concentration on every muscle working for the bit of movement, she attempted to put her mind at ease. He would be there. They would train. They would succeed. She needed more of his confidence to rub off on her, something she almost hated to admit.
That’s when she heard the door. Funny… They met in the dojo, didn’t they? Officially met and partnered. She hadn’t really thought about that in a while. She, herself, had changed significantly in the time they had been partnered. Levi… didn’t really seem all that different to her. Though maybe she didn’t know him very well. Entertaining her thoughts on her partner only somewhat as she watched him enter the dojo, she lowered her arms and brought them easily to her sides. He came towards her, no greeting other than the lifting of his glasses. If it were anyone else, she may have found it odd. But it was so in place for him, it didn’t even give her a second thought.
He was there.
The weapon was relieved, excited, anxious, and a mix of all other things. Levi seemed to be not too impressed. Typical. And that tended to pull her past expressionlessness to the forefront. While her expression may not be as bland as it once was, it would be hard to pinpoint her exact feeling. Watching the Prince and listening to him, she wondered over what all she should say. The basic idea didn’t seem to hard, but individual teams seemed to have their own struggles and successes with this next step. While she could possibly rattle on for a while, she doubted His Highness cared to that degree.
“We find a calm and a single mind. Match our wavelengths to one another. It seems the meister tends to take the lead, though I’m not sure that’s required.”
Taking a slow breath, she let any of her previous anxiety slip away from her mind. Letting her weapon form take her to her familiar darkness, the girl before him slipped into light and formed the corseque he should be familiar with at his side, easily within his reach.
“You reach out to me, we match, I amplify your power and send it back to you. If I understand, we continue that pattern for full resonance to be reached.”
Had that been enough and had it been all correct? She hadn’t attempted this before… It was a whole different world to take a theory and put it into action. Was… she supposed to have an idea on what their resonance might do or look like? Uncertainties she wouldn’t voice to him, but that could be a crucial piece of knowledge for them to succeed…
Well. Might as well try. They were already here.
“Comments from His Highness?”

Irene wasted little time and after his entrance jumped straight to the point of why they were here. As Levi expected it was resonance training that she had intended for them to work on. Her words confirmed what he knew of the subject so it shouldn’t be a problem at all for them to do. Matching their wavelengths was something they could already manage to some level considering he could wield her. Finding a single mind might be the only thing that caused any problems but he was Levi so that was nothing to worry about. Her comment about the meister taking the lead was unnecessary as he grinned and grabbed her after her transformation.
”As if there was any other role for me to take.”
With Irene in hand he listened to what she was saying about how to get this started before doing anything. So he just had to send his wavelength to Irene have her amplify it and repeat? That seemed easy enough to do. With his soul they probably wouldn’t even need to repeat it much for the power of a full resonance! Confident in that idea Levi moved to face one of the training dummies so he had something to show off the resonance on.
”Sounds simple enough. Just one more thing to be the best at.”
Giving his answer to Irene’s question Levi gave the weapon in his hand a moment of consideration. This was the base corseque he had grown accustomed to. He had no idea how a resonance would change things but it made them stronger and that was what mattered the most. Now that they were two stars they might even get into a situation where the kishin wasn’t pathetic and they could actually use some sort of added strength.
Reaching out he pressed the tip of the corseque against the dummy to get a perfect feel of what he would have to do to destroy it before pulling Irene back. If the Misaki girl could manage a resonance then he would be able to do it without any problems. Of course his would completely overshadow whatever sort of common feat she could pull off. Holding Irene horizontally in front of him they might as well get this started. Focusing on his soul he let his wavelength flow through his arm and to Irene. Keeping it under control it didn’t reach the purge stage but was still a flood of wavelength to Irene.

The grin from her meister along with his comment caused a small smirk to form along her own lips as she rested in her weapon form. His hand was securely on her by now, her place becoming ever secondary to his highness. His confidence was encouraging. Always unwavering and a bit envious at times. His other words followed soon after. It seemed he had nothing much to add other than his personal… arrogance? Or was that still confidence? It was starting to become hard for her to tell.
Regardless, she wished to agree with him. Make it simple and become the best. With him, the second part always seemed so much more within reach. She had always been attracted to his power and abilities, but as she had been with him she began to trust him to lead as well. Not simply the idea of a powerful meister leading her, but the individual named Prince Levi Kastein. If anyone could make her stronger, her could.
So as he moved his own body as well as moving her in the process, her weapon form touching the training dummy, she wondered what exactly might in store. This time with more excitement than nervousness. And that’s when she felt a stronger rush of his wavelength. It was familiar to her but… more. It couldn’t even come close to comparing to the first time he held her weapon form though. The pain of a soul purge directly to her soul, that was vastly different than this. These were familiar waters, though still enough to drown in.
But who could become discouraged? With such strength being handed over to her, as a weapon, it was almost natural to amplify. That’s what her purpose was with him, to expand his abilities to those he couldn’t achieve without a living weapon. He made her stronger and she opened up his possibilities. With his strength in mind, knowing she depended on him, she sent his elevated wavelength back to him, attempting to focus on him, his soul, and continue the passing.

Step one was matching their wavelengths so they grew stronger as a cohesive unit. It seemed simple enough, especially considering one needed to match wavelengths to even wield a weapon. Levi didn't know about the extent of this that was required to resonate but that was an extra bit of information unimportant to the bigger picture. Letting his wavelength flow into Irene should be enough to get them to match at the basic level and then there was something about sending it back that he didn't worry too much about. Having the same mind was apparently a part but it seemed like unnecessary garbage to him, if they focused on the technical parts it should do fine.
Actually focusing on his wavelength going to Irene gave him the same odd sensation he got when focusing on his soul purges. It was honestly to be expected but he preferred being able to effortlessly do what he needed to. Like when he focused on his soul purges he could feel his wavelength traveling through his arm and into Irene, then through the form of the corseque. What was stranger was feeling Irene amplifying his wavelength along with her own and sending that back to him.
Levi expected this but was unfamiliar with the process of taking in another wavelength causing him to falter on the rebounding. His arm twitched at receiving the wavelength out of a reactive shock. Grimacing at the reaction Levi forced his body to respond how he wanted before the impulse threw off everything. Focusing on grabbing the amplified wavelength before it dissipated he brought it to his soul to finish the rebounding and send it back to Irene stronger. Keeping the process up might be more of a pain in the ass than he originally thought but he would do it. He couldn't possibly fail at something he knew those lesser than him managed, plus he wanted to assure his overwhelming power above the peasants.
Attempting to focus more on the passing of wavelength and amplification Levi was determined to keep it up. The unfamiliarity was throwing him off but all he had to do was find some pattern to latch onto and he would excel at it. As long as the matching minds didn't come into play he shouldn't have any other difficulties. With his concentration solely focused on the wavelength he could feel it begin to travel differently through Irene but only in a minuscule way.

Sending his wavelength amplified and in addition to hers seemed almost natural. This is what she was supposed to be doing, what she was meant to do. Irene even grew a bit more excited at the thought that her and her partner were furthering their professional relationship. Then she felt his hesitation. Her concentration and hopefulness faltered during that brief moment. It was like all of her locked up. Levi’s facial expression was no comfort and the young woman found herself mentally backing away from anything that had to do with him. It wasn’t her place to be here, to be a weapon to someone, to be forming any sort of relationship. While Levi was confident and in control enough to force himself to get things back into order without any real issue, Irene had herself closed off in a multitude of ways.
“Shit…”
The word was almost desperately muttered. He had turned around the amplified wavelength quickly enough, sending it back to her even stronger than before. With her being unprepared, tense, and basically unaccepting in general, the sensation was somewhat similar to his wavelength attacking her the first time they met. While she was trying to get herself back into the thought process of why she had originally invited him here, she tried to latch onto what he had sent her. It made the feeling all the worse, taking the wavelength to amplify it once again, it was like taking pins and daggers to her soul. She needed… to refocus.
They were partners. She kind of appreciated him now, something she had been trying to avoid. But she needed him. Irene had invited him to work on a resonance and to get stronger. She couldn’t be the reason they failed. Amplifying his wavelength and hers, she almost forcibly threw it back at him. It was more haphazard, almost wild, it was somewhat amplified but not as controlled or precise as before. If Levi wasn’t ready or didn’t know how to handle her throwing things off balance, they would most assuredly have to begin again. Hell, she’d be lucky if they were staying synced enough for him to keep holding her without issue.
“Give me something to hold onto. Anything.”
The words weren’t particularly descriptive. Obviously she didn’t need anything physical to hold onto, not in her weapon form. But if she could focus on one thing, on something specific, maybe she could push the rest aside. If it came from him, maybe he’d focus on it too. It could help, at least she hoped so. She was tense and exhausted for some reason. Her words would hold the slightest bit of pain or desperation, though possibly missed by her partner if he wasn’t paying close attention. She tried to keep her voice steady while the rest of her was slowly failing.
She had to fight. This would be okay. This wouldn’t fail. She had Levi Kastein.
Right?

As soon as he faltered in the rebounding he could feel the aftereffects spreading through the resonance. He did manage to force himself back on track but it had already spread to Irene in the moment. Before he even heard her the sensation of the resonance failing began to make itself known. How deeply it affected her was lost on him but he felt the distance between their souls seem to grow. When she spoke any suspicion was all but confirmed by tone alone. Regardless he tried to maintain the resonance as it was to see if they could pull it back after the minor setback.
The answer was a resounding no. Sending his wavelength back after that pathetic attempt at a recovery didn't feel nearly the same as the start. It wasn't difficult for him but now that he was aware of more than just himself he could tell it wasn't working with Irene. Even so she managed to amplify his wavelength and rebound it back to him, albeit in a more haphazard manner. It didn't flow like the previous attempt though and Levi would have a difficult time attempting to bring it back on track to send it back.
Irene's words confirmed that just attempting to make a resonance happen wasn't working. She was right though, having something to hold onto and keep them on track would at least give them something to direct their focus on. His question was what could they both use to focus on? Even finding something they might have in common was a guess at best considering they could view it completely differently. It all seemed to come back to that damn one mind aspect! If they could Levi had no doubt that they could figure out how to make it work but that was a wall that had to be passed first.
Like hell he was going to let something as insignificant as a wall get in his way! The attempt at a resonance was a lost cause but there was nobody around to view him being anything less than perfect. Holding up his other hand he focused on the wavelength they were poorly trying to control and released it in as a loose purge. With wavelength that wasn't his own in the mix the sensation carried some pain with it but Levi ignored that.
"Alright, forcing it isn't working."
His voice was at a normal human volume for a change and more on the calm side. Moving his arm he brought Irene to his side to rest against the ground while he thought. Thinking of something that they could latch onto would be more trouble than it was worth. Finding common ground may have bene easy enough but Irene had been simply his weapon so there was no need to find similar interest or the such. If he followed the weapon thought and considered resonance a new weapon he just had to remember how he learned new weapons, something he hadn't had to think about for ages.
Closing his eyes Levi thought back to before he was perfect with everything to look for some hint. His practice was varied but if he had to find some sort of linking thread it had to be repetition. Finding a rhythm and keeping with it until it became second nature. Not fond of the idea but it was something at the least. Thinking back to a pattern he had used Levi attempted to make it work. Tapping his foot to the rhythm in his head he muttered out the beat under his breath.
"Een twee. Drie Vier."
Falling back to Dutch he spoke in time with each tap. A pause between each two he repeated the process a few times before lifting Irene up and holding her out to his side. Keeping his eyes closed he focused on gathering his own wavelength and sticking to his own plan.
"Follow the rhythm. Me, pause, you, pause, me. If we stick to that it will work."
His voice remaining calmer as he spoke the ending was still a statement instead of a question. He said it would work and so it would, it was as simple as that. Following his count when it hit one he sent his wavelength to Irene to start the attempt again.

She sent it back. Irene didn’t think things could fail, not when she had him. And she was able to send the wavelength back. He could handle it because he could handle anything. Trying to let her worries and stress melt away at the thought of passing everything off to him, she didn’t let herself believe that everything was already too far gone. When Levi held out his empty hand, expelling the bit of energy created between them, the weapon felt her heart sink. Not simply in the darkness of her weapon form, but stretching to the dark corners of her soul. Irene had asked him here, had wanted to prove she could help strengthen him, and here she caused him to fail. She was a broken weapon that only caused further wear on her partner.
The girl would hear him say that forcing wasn’t working but it would only vaguely register. She was already pulling back, pulling away from him. She didn’t transform back to her human self but she did focus on the darkness she was in. Closing her eyes to what was around her. Cut out Levi. Cut out the dojo. Cut off her failure. Or at least… try to cut out the failure. When she would open her eyes again she wouldn’t be within the dojo or at her partners side or even in weapon form.
Her Soul.
It was different from when she had visited just a few weeks before... Which was strange. The piano that had the lid almost torn from the body was now sitting with a grand appearance upon the stage, lid up to its highest stick, but completely together and beautiful. No small trumpet was lodged in the strings, the bench was neatly in place, and broken instruments didn’t litter the stage floor. In fact, they were neatly lined on the floor along the curve of the piano. Ranging from flugelhorns to piccolo trumpets, they sat neatly on stands, polished and oiled as if ready for a grand performance.
But why was everything back in place? Irene didn’t know and couldn’t make sense of it. Also, why was she looking at the stage? Both times before she had been on the stage within her soul. She found herself in one of the many balconies of the auditoriums seating. A beautiful concert hall with a main floor and three others, ranging from large rectangular balconies to simple small seated boxes. She was in a box on stage right, farthest from the stage. The red dress that she always had worn in such visits was still upon her body. Flowing delicate material gripping gently to her skin, ruffled red over one shoulder and cascading down to heeled feet. She was dressed for performance but stood in the audience.
Then another strange thing happened. It was like static in her vision. For a brief moment it was as if reality itself flickered and she saw a different stage than what was before her. For that split moment, she saw the destruction. The destroyed piano and trumpet parts. Torn curtains. Seats thrown and tattered. Then everything was back to its beautiful tip top shape.
Not knowing why it occurred, her thoughts were instantly brought back to Levi. How she had just failed him. Caused him to fail. Her arms across her body, hugging to herself and her hands gripping tightly at the opposite elbows, she paced back and forth in the elevated box. More and more her vision would flicker between the destruction in her soul and the performance ready venue. Chaos and beautiful energy swapping back and forth. Until she would look down at the stage during a moment of beauty and order, there sat a throne. Confusion would wash over her face as she would try to place why such an object might be there. But as soon as it would hit her that it was quite likely meant as being center stage for her partner, her vision would shift again.
The chaos was back. The broken pieces and smashed performance hall. Now she was back on the stage. Standing just ahead of where the throne had been. Scattered pieces of instruments surrounded her, the spotlight had even dimmed. Her hands would be out in front of her as if she were needing them to hold something. What she saw was herself. Her own self as a corseque. Her weapon form in her own hands, she could see her hands shaking and therefore allowing the weapon to shake. Somehow, she knew what was coming.
It shattered.
Like delicate glass, the weapon fell to pieces before her eyes. It was then that something new and quiet had entered her soul. A light tapping. It was consistent and soft. If Irene had been paying any attention, it may have soothed her. But in the moment, the girl was completely gripped by various waves of emotions and negativity. Her partners words never reached her. She had left him and stranded herself. It seemed as if her soul was also trying to grasp something. The tapping became louder and gently rocked the concert hall. Irene’s hands still were held in front of her, both holding dust from her previously destroyed weapon self. Left hand had the dust pulsing along with the beat that had originated from her partner’s soul. The other hand had the dust slowly solidifying into a rock. A solid and cold piece of material.
Needless to say, Irene was neither prepared nor accepting of her meister’s wavelength. Especially for the sake of passing it back to him and resonating.

Having gone through the hassle of thinking of a plan Levi was focused on that more than Irene. In doing so it took him a moment before he noticed the change in Irene. He assumed the distance between their souls would have rebounded back after ending the attempt at a resonance but it had remained the same, and now growing as Irene seemed to pull away from him. The corseque dipped slightly in his grip as the weapon gained a weight that it lacked before. Levi still attempted to send her his wavelength and start on his plan but he received no response back.
Silence was left as Levi stood with essentially a normal corseque in the dojo. Looking at his weapon Levi wasn't sure what to do for a moment.
"Hey Irene. What the fucks up with you?"
A fair question considering the shutdown that had happened. Levi waited for a response but was met with only silence from his weapon. Not planning to wait any longer for an answer he turned her in his hand and placed the tip against the floor. Just because her soul seemed distant and she failed to rebound his wavelength didn't mean they couldn't form some sort of resonance, Levi refused to give up until they succeeded in what they came here for.
Grabbing the corseque with both hands for a change he focused on what he could. Irene still had her own wavelength it just wasn't responding to his and matching it like usual. He should be able to tune his to match hers, or at least enough to resonate at some level. Feeling her wavelength he focused on his own and attempted to match them, only to be met with strong resistance. He could feel the resistance as his wavelength raced along his arms but that he could force through. Slowly it yielded closer to Irene's wavelength. Closing his eyes to focus he supported himself on the corseque and gradually worked his soul closer.
Determined to do what he set out to Levi lost track of time. However long it took he managed to reach Irene's soul with his own by gracefully crashing into a balcony. Being thrown into a seat he grabbed the rest as everything fell into place for him. Moderately composed he placed a hand on his chest while the other ran through his hair.
"Ah fuck! That was more of a pain than I thought, but I guess it worked."
While going through his hair his hand ran across his shades resting atop his head and his other hand rested against soft fabric. His face quickly changed from one of relief at succeeding to one of agitation. He suddenly stood up and looked at himself.
His jacket was gone and replaced by a plain black shirt. Black dress pants replaced his jeans with dress shoes replacing his boots. A jacket did rest over his shirt with a fur lined collar and an attached cape.
Building up a roar of frustration at what he was wearing Levi looked up and finally noticed what was around him. Releasing his aggravation in a sharp breath he took the time to notice where he was. He didn't know if it would even work to begin with so he wasn't sure what to expect to find. A stage wasn't something that would jump to mind, especially one that was in so much disarray. Glancing everything over he noticed Irene on the stage and moved to the front of the balcony.
"What are you doing Irene?"
His voice carried but it wasn't a shout, simply a question. Keeping his hands gripping the railing he leaned out to await her answer. Focusing his attention on Irene only seemed fitting considering she was on a stage, regardless of the state. With everything that had happened upon him arriving he didn't think too much about why the stage was the way it was. He had arrived after it had finished switching but in his initial state he probably wouldn't have noticed it regardless.

The words of her partner were lost to her. The dojo was long gone from her mind as Irene remained within her own soul. If she would have been paying any attention to her surroundings besides looking at a disintegrating corseque, she may have noticed a pressure filling the room. As Levi was attempting to match with her and force his way in, the air around the girl would grow stiff and unrelenting. Unconsciously she may have been fighting him off. She had wanted to back away and escape from everything. Her own self was setting two paths before her. One that involved relying on her partner and joining him in a team. The other was to draw back into that cold and secure place that she had before.
The pulsing of the dust in her hand had stopped. The rhythm was gone. Irene wasn’t sure why it had started in the first place nor why it had stopped, but it seemed to concern her. Her expression shifted at the ceasing movement of what was once her corseque self, she looked distressed and maybe even a bit desperate to get the pulse back. It was like something had died in her hands. Immediately, all she could think of was that she had somehow failed again. Meanwhile, in the other hand, the rock that formed from the dust only grew more firm. The cold and jagged surface begging for her attention of the motionless dust.
Levi’s entrance to her soul had been unnoticed. The pressure had been released, at least that added pressure of him attempting to match up to her, but the place still looked disheveled, forgotten, and a disgrace. The words he had spoken to himself had not reached her ears for the girl’s mind was lost in agony and turmoil. What was she to do now that she had escaped? Eventually she would have to return. And she knew she had to decide as who she would return.
What are you doing Irene?
Nothing could have surprised her more in that very instant. The sound of her partner, the voice that had become all too familiar to her by now, was echoing within the hall of her soul. She looked for him without hesitation, her hands instantly clamping shut as if to hide the useless dust and rock from view. It didn’t take long to find the green-haired royal amidst all the clutter. He was up in a balcony, his hands were on the railing and he was looking down upon her. Surprise would fade into a brief bit of panic before she could finally get herself to settle into that deadpanned neutral look. Unwavering by that which she was surrounded by. If it was at all possible to feel temperature within her soul, it would have gotten icey.
And then all black. The distinct noise of the powerful stage lights shutting off and reducing the light of the whole concert hall to near zero. Somewhat fortunately, the seating would have minimal light. Along the floor there would be dull orange lights, guides that would be meant to help people locate their seats in the dark. The stage would be extremely difficult to see, especially with the drastic change in light in so brief a moment. The young woman would not verbally reply, not right away, but one could hear the light tapping of heeled feet stepping along the hardwood of the stage. It was faint to the ear and it was only a few steps, but it was likely that she was backing up. Away from him and away from the audience.
“Nothing. I ran to my soul. It was a moment of weakness.”
Her grip loosened on the dust that she had been holding within her hand small bits falling to the floor like a broken hourglass. Her voice was loud enough for her partner to hear but it would be empty. That dull and emotionless sound that she had clung so desperately to since her original partner had vanished. Even clinging to her walls and neutrality when she had first partnered with Levi.
House lights would slowly come to life. The light would be dull, but would be enough to give a vague bit of vision to what remained on stage. Irene’s hands were lowered now, the dust still pouring from her hand in a slow trickle. She was farther back than she had been before, very close to the disheveled piano and trumpet pieces. She may have even fallen over things on the littered stage if she had kept moving. Her gaze would still be locked onto where Levi had been, she assumed he would not have left that spot. If he had… she would certainly try to find him.
He shouldn’t be here. It wasn’t his place. It was hers.

It seemed that his words had reached Irene and gotten her to bring her attention to him in the crowd. Returning to his senses after the odd situation that had been him getting to her soul in the first place Levi kept his attention on Irene. The distance might have thrown him off but he felt like her expression shifted a few times before taking on a general neutrality. If he was right there had been a hint of fear that he had caught before it settled. Ignoring the rest of her soul Levi tried to focus on her face in case there was anything else he could pick up on until everything went to black.
Before the lights fixed themselves Irene gave her answer. The first part was fairly obvious. Of course she retreated to her soul, if not they wouldn't be there at the moment. What he was more interested was a reason as to why she had done so in the first place. Clearly that wasn't something he was going to get as she finished what she was saying. A moment of weakness didn't clarify anything or help him understand what had happened to get them to the situation.
Then the lights came back and Irene had moved back on the stage. Something was pouring from her hand but Levi didn't know what it was nor did he think it relevant. Irene was still looking at him even after that lack of an answer so she couldn't be running away completely.
"Then what are you running from?"
He didn't get it. What could she have to run from in the first place? Even if there was something why bother running from it instead of just crushing it so it was no longer a problem? Letting go of the railing he was done staying on a balcony and headed for the stage. Following the path he walked toward Irene keeping her as his focus.
"Its still your moment, you're the one on the stage. "
Finishing his walk Levi went to the front row and found a seat. Kicking his legs up onto some debris he leaned back and returned his attention to Irene. The seating was horrid and he would never willingly grace it with his presence normally but for the moment he could make an exception. They were the only ones there so he had no reason to worry about filth seeing him lower himself and his weapon claimed to have had a moment of weakness, he could ignore the surroundings and tolerate the less than adequate conditions for a moment.
"If the moments not over don't let it stay a bad one."

Then what are you running from?
It wasn’t something she wanted to think about. She wanted to push it back and leave it away from her mind and soul. Her hand tightened on the rock. Solid and cold, jagged edges stabbing into her skin. She would be fine. She would join him and work towards getting stronger. Getting better. She wouldn’t have to run away from anything if she joined him. They would be unstoppable. The young woman would watch his movements, jumping from the balcony and landing among the lower seats. He was walking towards her, towards the stage. With another step back, her shoe would clink against a piece of destroyed metal. Stopping her movement for further retreat as she stayed focused upon the man she called partner.
Its still your moment.
That’s when her vision would leave him. Looking immediately downwards, she would notice the stage. She knew she was there, on this stage, but she didn’t want to acknowledge it. And him saying it so obviously to her brought it back to life. The expression didn’t change, another emotion didn’t resurface. She locked onto that neutralness that she had before they partnered up. The locking away of emotions and not caring. Not bothering to express anything other than apathy. Irene would raise her gaze again but more slowly and less snapping and instant. She’d see the green-haired male. Sitting. His confidence oozing from him even within her realm.
The curtains would snap shut. The majority of debris and brokenness being hidden behind red curtains with a variety of imperfections themselves. The main stage lights had never come back on and still wouldn’t, the house lights being the only means of seeing around the large concert hall. The movement of the curtains would give a dull ‘thud’ echoing, the rippling and thick material giving off its dense sound. Irene wouldn’t move. The red having closed just behind her she could feel it graze against her skin.
“I see little difference in the moment being good or bad. What’s left is to move on and accomplish what we came here for.”
As dull and hollow as when they first met, possibly right on the cusp of sounding irritated. Her one hand would start to open, threatening to release what was left of the dust and let it flutter to the ground. Her other hand would firmly grip to the stone.
“I’m done. We can continue. I won’t let you down further.”
She obviously stated she was done, but there was still indecision. Her hands hadn’t released, she hadn’t pushed him from her soul. For another lingering moment, she would wait. See what his reaction was and if he agreed. There was a part of her that... assumed he would drop her completely. She had failed their resonance. Dragged him into her soul to fetch her.

It didn't escape his notice that Irene failed to answer his question or respond in general. This was only accented by her retreating from the front of the stage as he approached. At least she looked up to meet his gaze but it didn't seem like she was going to follow it with any sort of clarification. After that the stage changed with the curtains closing behind her. It seemed to hide some of the disarray but it was still clearly there out of sight. Not a perfect fix but the change was something so he might as well go with what there was.
Finally getting some sort of response was appreciated but it was hardly anything useful. At the least it seemed she was ready to attempt to try to resonate again. Her tone seemed to be contrary to her words but it was still worth trying. Going back to trying would at least get him back to some reasonable clothes. Standing up he moved next to the stage so he could extend his right hand to Irene.
"If you're ready then."
They had tried resonating and it ended up not working right away. That just meant they would have to get it right the second time. The fact that it hadn't happened right away only revealed that their resonance was something incredibly powerful and equally difficult. Two tries for them would probably translate into weeks of failures for anyone else to even get close to the same progress. Now it was just a matter of going trough the steps and they would achieve perfection like they were meant to.

Levi Kastein. Her partner. He stood up and walked towards the stage with the dull thudding of the shoes upon his feet making its way to her ears. She watched him, waiting for some verbal response. Whatever he might say she wouldn’t even be able to guess, but none of it mattered anymore. She would focus and dissect what she needed to do in order to succeed. Not allow him, or anyone else, to enter her heart.
His words were simple and his words almost commanding. It was typical for her meister. Strong and in charge. Irene would give one single nod, then let the dust free from her hand. The rock still held tightly in the other hand, she would walk forwards now as well. Closing the distance between them, him on the ground level and her upon the stage, her heels would click harshly against the hardwood. When she reached him, she’d lean down and near the familiar figure that was His Highness. Her free hand stretched out, taking his hand in her own.
And they would be gone.
Her soul fading into nothingness as she pushed them both out of her space. Once again they would be in the dojo. Familiar sights of training equipment and the empty room. She would still be in her weapon form, Levi holding her. Their resonance should have returned to normalcy, her weight causing little trouble for her excellent partner. The woman was focusing upon them, relying on his strength and power to guide them. Levi was the royal and she his weapon.
”Ready”
She would reply simply, her mind back on track and her soul once again calmed. He was not close to her and she would not let him be, but she would work for him. Be stronger for him. And succeed for him. It was her task in life to be better and she would do it. He was ready and she was as well, they would have no problem with this resonance. They both were certain.
