Espen really didn’t like long trips. This was something he had only recently learned, as he had only been on two long trips prior to this one. Because of this, Espen had grown bored. So bored he had zoned out most background noises when they had gotten to the bus.
But then he noted the sounds he heard. The bus sounds and the humming he had grown used to, as they were always there. But, that was all that was there. No sound from the forest they were in. The forests in his country were always so loud. Not even any bird noises? Really? That seemed... odd. Perhaps they were just scared away by that thing the teams were here to do. Bad memory. What was that again?
Not too long to focus on that. Soon one of the girls on the bus stood up to give a speech. Espen listened to it with full attention. He could use a rundown of what was happening, as if Noelle didn’t know and then he gave her incorrect information she could get hurt.
A plan on what they should do. Perfect! That was better than all of the respective teams running around like headless chickens. That’d probably end up getting people killed, both Shibusen students and civilians. Either or, Espen wouldn’t be too happy.
The next thing she said made Espen pause for a second. “Those of you with no mission experience,”... Espen and Noelle had gone on a mission together before. That being said, he figured there were people with much, much, much more combat experience than the two of them had. Furthermore, he was unsure which of the jobs described required more people. Perhaps he’d determine that based on the experience of everyone else around, once he learned that.
Espen shifted his weight so his head was propped up on one his hands. He gave his partner a quick glance, trying to see if he could read her expression or anything. Hey, if she was confident about this whole thing he wouldn’t deny her from fighting some tougher enemies, but it was best to play it safe than get themselves killed or seriously injured.
The little speech ended with “Any questions?”, causing Espen to turn his attention away from Noelle before he could read her expression. He wasn’t good at reading expressions, so probably wouldn’t have been able to regardless.
But, any questions? Espen couldn’t think of any, or at least think of any that could be worded in a way that would make sense. Besides, surely someone else would ask the girl a question that would give the teams some useful information.

Noelle had barely noticed the evening of the road, or that the bus was slowly being consumed by trees. Her mind was on the mission, though, and not some story of red coats and adventures in the woods. But she was thinking more of clowns, and why they were attacking people. She also pondered over the origins of horror stories where clowns snapped and went on homicidal rampages. Clowns existed to make people happy, right? She couldn't understand someone becoming a clown with the intention of hurting other people. But maybe being a clown was a stressful job? So maybe stressed clowns were the ones who went a little mad. Of course, the argument could be made that clowns are a little mad in the first place. Not that she'd know, as she had never met a clown. And she didn't bet her prince of a partner had met one either, otherwise she would ask him.
Speaking of Espen, he'd been fairly quiet this trip. She didn't entirely mind, but maybe it would calm their nerves a little if they at least had a little banter. She hunched over and unzipped her backpack, pulling out a handful of assorted candies she figured Espen had never tried. Then she nudged him a little and offered the selection to him. She was even going to say something, though the established leader from before stood up to make a speech. Noelle couldn't help but smile, despite the grim situation. She was right, thinking this one would be a trustworthy leader. Though she couldn't help but wonder where she and Espen fell when it came to the assignments. They had been on a mission before, and were fairly competent as far as partners went. She personally thought they worked well together, anyway. But they were probably the least experienced pair on the bus--she was assuming that, anyway, though she did keep the idea of someone else being even less experienced than them in mind.
If anything, she didn't want to be a hindrance to the overall mission. So even though she wanted to jump to the front lines and take down some Kishin, she understood that she would probably be the one helping the people. Still a noble cause, of course--the people were the most important factor. But she would wait to see where everyone else fell before making her decision firm; if there were too many people helping the citizens, then no one would be fighting Kishin. So she'd go where she was needed, though she had little doubt about where that would be.
She felt her partner looking at her, and she turned to look back. Whatever his intentions were, she missed them because his attention was drawn back to their leader. Oh well, it wasn't like she couldn't ask him about it later.

The bus was pretty quiet. Niina didn’t readily notice this, but the thought was vaguely held in the back of her mind. No one was really talking, besides the girl and guy that had been deemed leaders of the group. And even then, it wasn’t all that loud of talking. Nothing really distracting, so Niina kept right along with her humming. It kept a smile on her face even as she worried for the times to come. Knowing that she was coming closer to the blood made her skin crawl. It helped having Fritz, possibly helped more than having Sebastian around. Niina loved the boy dearly, but he added to her concern more often than settling it.
For a moment, Niina could have sworn that the leader girl looked towards her. Her smile widening ever so slightly, as if she might be greeting Misaki, most likely was lost. The leader girl was looking over them all, or so it seemed. While Niina’s grin didn’t fade, she kept her attention on Misaki. It looked as if she might say something. A good time for it too… She was going to need a distraction. The light from the sun was thinning, those darn thick trees beginning to block it out. Oh how she hated the dark. Shifting a tad closer to her partner, her ears were hooked on Misaki as the first words left her mouth.
Her and Fritz would be helping any people they came in contact with. Awesome! It wasn’t first hand bludgeoning people, but it was helping. And to be honest… she was nervous about the whole partner fighting thing. This could be a good start for them. Hoping Fritz wasn’t disappointed with the news, she turned her head slightly to look at her partner. An encouraging grin on her face, she hoped to not be met with any discouragement.
The last phrase came from Misaki. Any questions? Um… YES. Niina would love to know the girl’s name, it might be helpful over the intercom instead of saying ‘captain’ or ‘leader’ or ‘oh great and mighty girl in charge.’ She would also like to know if they were there yet. Or if she had heard from the teachers. What if the blood had major effects on some of the students on this very bus?
But… Niina also didn’t want to bring a ton of attention to herself. These questions weren’t necessary and may gain her unwanted attention. So, she would be good for now. A little sun was creeping back in and she could just look out the window and find pretty little colored critters. Well… she assumed so, until she actually looked out the window for a while. Nervousness making its way slowly into her expression, the girl tugged lightly at her gloves to give her hands something to do.
This will help people…

The young Bithynian was doing her very best to pay attention to no one on the bus. She didn’t care who they were or what they did. And the less she knew about them and the less she paid attention, the less she would have to recall at a later date. For now, gazing out the window was enough. The sun’s light was fading a bit, trees above blocking out its rays. The road got smoother, which could make it much easier for her to drift off.
A change came. A decently drastic one. Well… drastic by her standards. Seeing as no one had really been talking, Misaki’s voice rising above what little noise was on the bus was hard to miss. Having not had the mindset to fall asleep just yet, Mya found her gaze shifting to the dark haired female. She looked like she wanted their attention, her voice sounded similar too. As always, Mya’s expression lacked most ranges of care. Turning her head slowly to her partner, she wondered if the male might be asleep… or trying to sleep.
A somewhat labored breath was exhaled from her lungs as the girl shifted her arm. The arm that was closer to Alex, she brought her hand gently around his wrist, gave a bit of a squeeze but also attempted to connect her soul to his for a moment. Well… not so much connect as was sharply show her presence. Mya knew that she certainly wasn’t going to pay attention to this girl. Alex needed to get his head wrapped up in whatever this girl chose to say, and check in soon… because she was rambling on.
Blocking Misaki’s words from her mind, trying to tune her out, she looked back out the window once again. While similarities of home still crazed her thoughts, one thing did stand out to her. The silence. Off the bus was nothing. It was still. And for a moment, a light smile tugged at the one corner of her mouth.

When Alex opened his eyes it was a brighter world. Well, marginally brighter at least; by the time he was roused from his short slumber the trees around them had begun to thin slightly and the open patches in the canopy of leaves that let light through were growing larger and more frequent.
It took him a moment to realise why he had awoken. Someone was speaking but it wasn’t loud enough to bother him and the jostling of the bus had settled down quite a bit as the road evened out. He could feel someone holding onto his wrist and glancing across to the seat next to him he was surprised to find it was Mya. His taciturn partner hadn’t turned to face him, only reached out to take his arm in hand, but her grip was firm; even so that probably wasn’t what had awoken him, not unless she had shaken him as well and that seemed like the kind of high energy activity Mya usually avoided.
It was a while before he felt it, that not-quite-a-feeling feeling, but once he did it was hard to miss. Mya hadn’t simply grabbed his wrist she’d forged a connection between them, nudging into his space with her presence and making herself known in a way she rarely did physically. He just didn’t know why.
He felt his attention drawn, or rather nudged, towards the voice he heard earlier. Turning to face the front of the bus he saw the girl, their leader, addressing them. Alex guessed Mya wanted him to pay attention so that she didn’t have to, something that seemed likely since now that he was awake she was staring out of the bus window with a contented little smile on her face.
Alex felt another headache bubbling away behind his eyes. His partner would rather convey thoughts and messages between their souls than string two words together to tell him to pay attention. He imagined a future partnership where all communication was done this way and briefly considered learning Greek before realising she would probably just ignore him in that language as well.
Misaki was already part way through her speech by the time Alex finally started paying attention, but he at least caught the part of the mission he and Mya would presumably by covering.
No mission experience certainly covered it, meaning he would be responsible for babysitting any survivors they found, keeping them safe and keeping everyone else safe from them. Alex honestly wished he could fight the Kishin Eggs instead, because keeping a bunch of scared and possibly crazy civilians under control sounded a hell of a lot harder than fighting a few monsters. Maybe if he was allowed to punch into unconsciousness anybody they found it would make their job easier, but he got the feeling that might be frowned upon.
At the end of her plan the girl asked them all if they had any questions. Glancing around Alex could see a few faces that looked like they wanted to ask something but for whatever reason held back from voicing them. He probably looked the same, because there was a question on his mind he wanted to ask but wasn’t sure if anybody needed or wanted to hear it.
What do we do if there are no survivors?

With the bus bringing them closer to the madness Fritz sat back and waited to see if anything happened. Considering it was madness from the demon god himself there was no idea what to expect. So far there wasn’t any change aside from the light being overtaken by the forest around them, but that was probably normally like that. Most importantly he didn’t feel any different. The last thing he needed was negative thoughts hitting him in the middle of the mission. Pushing the worry to the back of his mind Fritz could just sit back and wait for them to arrive.
First he noticed Niina move and then one of the appointed leaders began speaking. She began to tell them her plan and thankfully it was a simple one. He did technically have some mission experience but Niina was without any. Sticking in the no experience group was for the best though for everyone involved. Niina didn’t have experience fighting, least of all with a key, plus they would get to help people! Better yet they could prevent people from becoming corrupt and not have to kill them. It was the perfect way they could practice working as a team and still help the others.
Noticing his partner’s grin he returned with one of his own. This was great. Even with such a dangerous mission they could be helpful and not be put into the most danger. Of course they needed to do something to help on this giant mission but jumping right into fighting would be abrupt. Maybe this was the best way for them to start as a team instead of jumping into a normal mission right away. Hopefully he was right about that when they arrived at the site of the madness.

Dion didn’t reply to Misaki’s response, they did need some sort of plan for everyone to follow. Sitting with his arms crossed he was interests to see what sort of plan Misaki came up with. Feeling the road smooth out was reassuring for what was ahead. The light being obscured however was not. Being able to fight on flat ground would help but if everything was overcast it opened a handful of problems. If it came down to it they could clear some of the trees and let some light in if necessary. When Misaki stood up to speak he tilted his head to face her slightly and see what the plan was.
It was a good plan. Misaki had mostly accounted for everyone based on their skill levels and that was about as much as they could do. There was no point trying to make a strict plan with madness involved or with Misaki in charge. With any luck the scene would be mostly manageable when they arrived and not complete chaos. Having at least some stability to start things off would be good for the new teams to get some footing. Considering he was the co-leader of this thing he felt he should spare some words as well. Not standing like Misaki he just lifted a hand over the seat and lazily moved it.
”I guess some obvious points to add. If whatever your fighting starts to overwhelm you call for help, ideally from a team above you but cover each other as well. And if you finish whatever you’re on move up, just be careful about it.”
Dion’s hand started to go back down under the seat before springing back up with his index finger extended to signify his idea.
”Except for if a clown appears! Everyone stay as far away from that as you can.”
With that his hand vanished under the seat again. As light returned to the forest Dion wondered what kind of scene they would arrive on. If there was any order in that madness they weren’t completely screwed to begin with. He and Misaki could rush out and toward a monster to take care of that and draw attention of anything else around. Irene and her meister would probably do something similar which would clear some space for the others to fall into place along the plan. If everything went perfect maybe this would turn out well.

The bus was garbage. The ride was trash. The forest was annoying. And the others were insignificant. At least the forest had the decency to smooth out and stop being stupidly bothersome. Just let them get to the damn place so the fun could start! Even if the forest was growing mildly better it was still pissing him off by obscuring the light. If they had to fight in some dark forest with trees getting in his way there would be problems. The only true positive was that nobody was talking so he didn’t have to listen to the irrelevant voices of peasants.
Someone finally broke the silence and thankfully it was Misaki. He hadn’t been around her enough to make assumptions about her plan, he could only hope it didn’t make him do something stupid. There was nothing else more interesting to do so he paid attention to the plan of their apparent leader. Thankfully it was actually competent, he probably would have come up with something similar. Let the commoners deal with the weaker things and hope they don’t get themselves killed while he got to fight the fun stuff. He got to fight the good things and keep the peasants away from him, ideal!
Next her weapon said something from where he was on his seat. Levi would have possibly taken his lack of appearance as rude but he wasn’t referring to him so it didn’t matter. He wouldn’t be overwhelmed by anything and wouldn’t need help from those beneath him. If any of the weak ones needed him to save their asses they better just hope he wasn’t preoccupied fighting something more entertaining. The whole thing about clowns was irrelevant, they were only a possibility and seemed much less fun to fight than one of the so called monsters.
”Good. Hopefully one of them can manage to put up a worthwhile fight.”
Levi’s words were more thoughts said out loud. An average person may have simply muttered them under their breath, which Levi did in a way. The words were quiet for Levi, being at a normal talking voice of a normal person instead of a near shout that he usually spoke at. The others on the bus should have considered it a gift to hear his voice anyway.
With a mission so straight forward he couldn’t imagine there being many questions to the most obvious plan. So far Misaki was doing well enough as a leader so Levi didn’t bother asking if he could just take all of the monsters. The leaders could babysit while he got to have fun taking down the strong stuff. Unless they did give him a good fight he might still get to take them all down if they fell that easily. For the time he just sat back and waited for them to arrive so he could get away from these commoners and hopefully get some entertainment out of this whole trip.

Everyone seemed caught in their own little worlds. No one really interacted, physically or verbally. Each was their own. Irene almost appreciated this. Not that she needed silence or aloneness, but these students were meditating upon their own selves. Well… that’s the best she could hope for at least. It was that or they were just a annoying group of children.
Then her ears caught the slight sound of words. Not the humming from the too happy girl, but the ‘leading’ team. They were speaking to one another. Just thinking about the small partner of Dion’s made Irene’s blood boil. She really had no reason to dislike the girl, but why should that stop her? Attempting to distract herself, Irene not so subtly looked about the bus again. Someone was so on edge to sit almost off the seat. A snow-haired child that might have an… aura of irritation about him? Happy girl was still humming away. In general some people seemed disinterested in everything, or just simply waiting. Her gaze landing lastly on her own partner… seemed his normal impatient self.
The bumps hadn’t bothered her much, she had other things/people to be irritated with, but she did in fact note that the road got smoother. The farther they moved into the forest, the more things changed. First light was taken from them. Not completely, but the trees above were trying their best to suck that energy before it got the chance to hit the ground. Further still, and it was like everything smoothed out… Something that unsettled Irene more than it should have. Tying it together with optimistic views of everything working out, even with chaos around. She didn’t like it.
One thing to keep her mind on about the ‘chaos,’ or forest, that surrounded them, is that it was like any other fully treed area she had ever been in. It was silent. Besides the sound of the bus rattling along the road, she heard no life beyond those on the bus. While she attempted to convince herself that she just couldn’t hear any insects or the like because of the sound of the bus, she did find it odd that she saw no such creatures either. It was unlikely that every animal hid THAT well.
The path ahead of them was not going to go so smoothly.
And with that, a voice she didn’t wish to hear took over the stale air of the bus. Eyes narrowing slightly, she stared straight at the girl speaking. As the girl placed a hand on her hip instead of the seat, Irene silently wished the bus would hit a pothole in that moment. Throw that girl off her high horse. The plan was laid out before them. Misaki had brief and passing eye contact with Irene, but it was mostly to make sure they were paying attention. Nothing lasting, nothing meaningful. That was, until Misaki spoke to Levi and Irene.
‘That’s about it I suppose’
The words didn’t bother her so much as that grin. Irene’s own face was reverting back to old habits. Her eyes dulling over, blank expression, lips basically in a straight line. Turning her gaze off the girl, she no held more value.
From the corner of her eyes, she saw movement, but was too irritable to fully check what it was. Seeing as Dion’s voice soon followed after, she assumed he was signaling attention to himself. His voice was clear enough to hear, instructions simple as well. But Irene still didn’t turn. At the moment, she wasn’t really focused on anything, just making sure she wasn’t looking to the girl that was meant to lead them.
What surprised her most was that Levi chose to speak. While he liked hearing his own voice, she didn’t assume that he liked speaking in the presence of commoners unless he had to. It seemed she always had more to learn. A very faint smile tugged at a single corner of her lips. While she didn’t look to her partner and continued her blank stare to nowhere, she did sort of answer him.
“You can keep hoping, your majesty.”
While not much could be told from her tone of voice, other than the words were meant for him, she had her own meanings behind the words. Irene remained at a quieter level than her partner, not really caring to have the whole bus hear what she said, but at least have it register somewhere in his mind. In her own way, she was complimenting his abilities. Mocking his constant dissatisfaction. Acknowledging his royalty. As well as reminding herself that this was her partner, and if she should have to interact with anyone on this bus, it would be him.

Post by Stella Riordan on Apr 2, 2015 11:18:35 GMT -5
Stella considered herself to be reasonably experienced by now. Like, she was still certain most people knew what they were doing in terms of fighting more than her, but she had gone on multiple missions by now. Sure she had almost died on one of them, but that was beside the point.
Besides, she had learned a lot from that experience. Stella assumed that there would be more than enough people looking after civilians. Even if there wasn’t, she’d be better at fighting kishins. Well, not better. She’d just prefer it. No way was she going to spend today dealing with frantic people who didn’t listen to her because they were scared. Kishins sounded much more appealing. As for the monsters... whatever they were, she’d avoid them. If they were powerful, there must have been less, and it seemed as though there would be two teams going after them anyway.
The girl also figured that Cecil wouldn’t be too happy with dealing with people either. Both of them had big egos and all that jazz. She had come on this mission thinking she’d fight some strong enemies anyway. Nothing out of her capabilities, of course! Dying on a mission like this where there were a lot of teams around wasn’t really on her list of ways to die.
The plan that the leader girl had proposed was sound. Really, Stella couldn’t think of what any other plans would be. Then again, it wasn’t exactly a specific plan. No “these teams go west and these go east”, but perhaps that bit would come later. Stella wasn’t even quite sure what the area would be like. She’d be sure to scout it out a little before she did anything reckless.
The set up of the area was the only question Stella had, but she didn’t bother asking it anyway. She’d see just as soon as she got there. After all, she already knew it was forested. Or she had assumed that to be the case given this particular area was forest. It might be a clearing, which would be a shame. Forests provided a lot of natural cover.
Stella then shifted her attention to Cecil. ”You don’t have any questions, do you?” She asked him, half joking. Probably not a good idea, honestly. If he did have any questions he probably wouldn’t ask them now.

To Cecil's immense relief, the road more-or-less smoothed over in time for the mission plan. They were on Kishin duty. Expected. So long as they kept aware of their surroundings, he felt confident that he and Stella could handle it.
The mission outline was very simplistic, but that was likely for the best. This was a bus full of strangers; attempting to coordinate a more sophisticated plan in such chaotic conditions would only lead to disaster. But it seemed to Cecil that there seemed to be a gap in what the leaders had accounted for, even on this simple level.
His meister addressed him. Her tone was a bit odd; while it was true he had the utmost confidence in what he would be doing, he was not the most trustful of everybody else's capabilities. He gave Stella a simple, if forced, smirk before standing up, grasping the back of the seat in front of him for balance.
"Pardon," He intoned, bowing his head slightly, accompanied by a flourish of his free hand. "Cecil Amier, Demon Butterfly Swords, One-Star." He introduced himself briefly. He managed to hold back on his preferred titled of "Demon Weapon Extraordinaire", but only just. "But I think it would be best if we all had an idea of what to do in the case of a worst case scenario. If we're simply too outnumbered and outmatched on the whole, and..." his grip on the seat tightened, "our casualties too great to salvage the mission. What's our last ditch back-up plan to get everyone we can out alive?"

Now that a plan had been figured out the real test would be how well the teams could execute it once they reached the madness. The path ahead was clear of obstruction and allowed for a smooth drive as they drew closer to the village. On either side of the path the trees began to become more spaced out to allow more light to fall on the forest floor. Along the path signs of inhabitance could be seen going in every direction. Tire marks were faint but footprints of humans and animals littered the ground. Things would remain much the same for about another twenty minutes, allowing the students some more time to prepare for what was ahead.
Along the sides of the path the trees thinned until there was a large clearing ahead of them. It was a large circular area cleared of any vegetation. A solid reddish dirt made up the ground for the full circular area. The path the bus was on acted as the only way in or out of the village, a fact that helped slow the spread of those infected with madness. Along the perimeter of the clearing were wooden buildings with thatched roofs that separated the village from the forest beyond. In the direct center of the village stood one more building, or the remains of the building.
Wood from the building was scattered about in pieces around the pillar that had replaced it. Standing in the wreckage was a six foot tall black crystalline pillar emanating madness. Jagged points protruded from the base and slowly receded as it extended to one tip at the top. Looking solid and smooth like it was made of glass under the surface it seemed to slowly flow in erratic patterns, it could only be black blood.
Just before the bus crossed into the village the silence would be broken by a loud cry. It sounded like a high pitched croak but distorted between pitches that should not exist. The cry faded and the bus moved into the circle of the village before the relative peace broke.
In the next moment the front of the bus was covered in darkness. A black mass that seemed to move unnaturally and give off a slight sickly luminescence obscured the front window and spread over nearly half of the sides. After the arrival of the darkness there was no warning before a crescent protrusion crashed through the roof in the center of the bus and pierced into the floor. A prism of ever shifting colors it rapidly yet smoothly changed between every color of the visible spectrum and some colors outside of it. It carried a sort of sick luminescence like the blackness that threw unnatural light over the shadows of the bus.
Luckily it had missed the seats and only pierced through the aisle but that only removed the immediate danger. Gazing at the colors shifting could create a pulling fixation in those vulnerable to madness, it seemed to demand that it be stared at. Looking into the colors for too long would cause a growing pain and a loud buzzing to fill the head of the unfortunate. A grinding noise began to rise from where the bus was pierced accompanied by a rough shaking. Whatever had attacked the bus was now trying to move it. The driver was doing his best to keep the bus stable but against the unnatural force and blind to anything in front it was only a short amount of time before something happened. Facing the students he gave a few words in what was clearly a difficult language for him.
”Hold on, then quickly windows.”
Facing the darkness he floored the gas only to quickly break with a sharp turn. With the external movements of whatever had attacked them the bus was thrown to the side and toppled over. The driver side crashing into the ground he quickly opened the door even of it would be of little use. The protrusion began to shake erratically and move the bus with it. For now it was trapped enough to give the teams a chance to escape the bus but that time grew ever shorter with each rapid shake of the protrusion.

Not having the energy nor care to remove her hand from her partner’s wrist, Mya had merely left it there. Her attention out the window, she couldn’t completely find her world of silence. The nothingness outside the bus was so inviting, but inside there was chittering of the female up front. Not to mention, her partner didn’t seem particularly pleased with her. It never really bothered her… that tended to be common with whatever company was present. What really bothered her was the verbal words.
When there came a short quiet from her speaking, Alex replied. Well… sort of. She didn’t really hear him, but felt a sort of dreading. His thoughts had invaded her soul for a brief moment. Though she would never know exactly what he was thinking, she would know it reminded her of loss. An emptiness that didn’t directly relate to him.
With finding this through her hand still touching him, she gave a bit of attention to her partner. Turning her head a bit, eyes fixed on him. He had been watching the girl speaking, most likely paying attention if she knew anything about him. But he had also looked around. Looking to the faces of others on the bus. A few people spoke, a male she never saw appear above the seats, another male voice, a female voice…. and then someone stood. She caught it from the corner of her eye, her head still mostly turned towards Alex she didn’t care much to change position again.
Words. They were getting on her nerves today. Was this all really necessary? Exhaling through her nose, it could be found that her hint of a smile disappeared long ago. She wanted these people to go away. Well.. actually, she wanted to be home. Sitting on a bus was nice, if only it were quiet. One thing she could be thankful for was that no one was asking of anything directly of her. Yet. Whatever… For now she had to just keep to the background like she was home.
And that’s exactly what she did. The voices carried, but she paid them no mind. The smoothness of the bus allowed her to relax further, just letting her senses take in that which was around her. It would forever be in her memory, much like everything else, might as well have a good picture. The only thing she dreaded was when they started to get near civilization. Sure, signs of life had been popping up or a bit, but buildings were now in view. The center building had a strange….. rock? in the midst of what was left of it.
It was all very odd. An oddness that she didn’t like. Tightening her grip ever so slightly on Alex’s wrist, that would be the only sign of her displeasure. This place was so… off. That same grip would remain on his hand, not even the cry causing her to flinch. Mya had, of course, heard it, but she hadn’t decided what to make of it. As soon as the darkness hit the front of the bus, almost seeming to want to swallow them, she could take no more. Light engulfing her human body as the female quickly transformed, her leather binds securely clung to Alex’s arm that she had previously been holding.
<< Off. Now.>>
Words she would utter to his soul. While she couldn’t find much reason to care for this mission or doing anything, being in her weapon form allowed her to remain still. Also… she had made a sort of commitment to this partner of hers. Getting out of trouble now would prove much more useful than being crushed under pieces of a bus. Or worse… having to help him get out of the bus…
No sooner had she taken her weapon form was the bus attacked straight through. No one injured or hit, but the bus would certainly feel that. All the more reason to get off. The bus driver said something, but Mya was much more preoccupied about getting Alex off the damn bus. Windows. Punch out the back. Tear through the bottom. She didn’t darn well care. But she would not be dragging a pierced Alex through the battlefield… He had to carry her around.
Then the bus was flipped. A slight acceleration and turn preceded that… but turning on its side was inevitable. This was turning out to be very obnoxious all in all…

The minute the words left her mouth, Misaki was trying to think up anything that would be thrown her way and how she’d respond. Winging answers wasn’t really an option in this scenario, not that bullshitting the important stuff was a habit of hers. Only when she didn’t know when to say or didn’t have the confidence that she was correct. Either way, it was too late to take back the invitation of possible rapid fire requests for knowledge, all aimed right at her. She was the leader. She needed to do her best. Nothing less would be acceptable for the situation.
Dion’s added advice was welcome. Good points to mention and also ones she had missed. Misaki mentally kicked herself for forgetting such simple but still very important things. Too late to go back, though. Besides, that’s what teamwork was for. She could always count on Dion to pick up on things she missed, even if at times they were so obvious she did get a bit frustrated with her own tendency to leap first and look later. Here, though, she planned to try and do that opposite of that for the sake of the mission, and for the sake of everyone she was currently in charge of leading.
Misaki took another brief glance around the bus, thankful as they hit stable road at last. Being able to stand without the risk of being thrown on her ass by a ditch in the road definitely made her feel less tense. Not so for a few of the other occupants, apparently, but she expected as much. Given the number of one stars, Misaki was a little surprised to see so many who were, for the most part, at ease. Anything that wasn’t surprised was pride and confidence, and it showed in the slightest shift of her expression from cocky to something a little softer. Good to know she would be fighting beside people who apparently were aware of their ability and ready to face whatever lay ahead.
She could also see question marks of varying degrees appearing on many faces, but not a lot of actual vocalization. Her attention was quickly drawn between the boy who’d previously been sleeping but was now awake and looking the definition of grim and team royal. She didn’t get a chance to look over either as another of their group stood up and addressed her. Cecil, Demon Butterfly Swords, One star. Misaki put all of that to memory. Misaki also listened well to what he was asking. It was a good question, and one she appeared pensive about even if it only took her a moment to reach an answer.
Misaki carried herself differently upon responding. Her back felt stiff and she couldn’t lower her shoulders as much as she wanted to. Stop that, she told herself, don’t go back to being all nervous now. She managed to relax enough to maintain the look that she did actually know what she was doing. “Misaki Saito, Spear Technician, Two star,” were her first words, mimicking Cecil out of politeness even if was an odd place to adhere to them, but it was in her upbringing to mind her manners even if she minded little else. “If everything starts going sideways and we need to get the hell outta dodge, use your Incoms and contact Dion and myself,” she instructed clearly, “We have the mirror and the ability to pass on the information that we need help and that it’s too dangerous for us to continue.”
Her eyes continuously moved between Cecil and the windows. They were someplace new; the space around them wasn’t as obscure. But she wasn’t really distracted until she caught a glance of what they were headed towards, and then the dark blanketed the front of the bus. The hold she had on the seat behind her tightened and Misaki gravitated back closer to where Dion was seated out of instinct. “Holy f-“ The crescent that pierced through the roof and into the floor made Misaki’s stomach drop. If she’d been standing even just a little bit closer to the aisle…
Tearing her eyes away, Misaki threw herself down into her seat and held on at the awful grinding noise and tremors that gripped the bus. “Incoms on now if you don’t have them on already!” There was more stress in the command than Misaki would have liked, but with her heart beating out of her chest and an imminent threat of nothing good coming their way she was trying to pull it together in too many different ways. Don’t panic, you’ve got this. She did have this.
That and whatever initial shock she had was interrupted by the driver’s instructions. Poorly worded, but Misaki followed them to the best of their abilities. She held on as best she could to the seat, instinctively shutting her eyes and gritting her teeth when the bus flipped onto its side. Upon opening her eyes, Misaki quickly made a point of zoning in on the first best line of escape she could spot that didn’t involve the aisle and the awful black inhabiting it. Dark eyes found the emergency exit at the back of the bus. Then again, not everyone was close to it. “Everybody out, any way around the black that you can find!” She put a hand on Dion’s shoulder as she started moving, in part to help push herself over the back of the seat but also to let him know where she was headed, “There!”
Clambering over bus seats was not the most graceful thing in the world, but Misaki made quick work of it. Avoiding broken glass from the windows belonging to the now grounded side of the bus, she made it to the emergency door and latched onto the thick handle, pulling it down and then shoving the door open with all her might before clambering out. Once outside of the bus, she stood by to be sure it would stay open while she searched for a good view of whatever the hell had just attacked them. Out of habit she was already holding one hand slightly away from her side, open and searching for Dion.

Now that a plan was out there and the road was done with the bumps Dion could sit back and wait. Once they got there he was looking for the closest ‘monster’ and taking it down. Seeing one of the bigger threats get destroyed might help with morale for the one stars so they didn’t panic and get killed. Plus with their resonance nothing stood a chance against them. Someone else sounded confident and based on the response they were the meister of Irene. It was good to know her team had the mindset to back up their rank.
The next voice he noticed lacked that confidence. It was a valid question but he could do without the thought that such a situation would even happen. Thankfully Misaki answered so he didn’t have to dwell on that idea. As long as everyone did what they were supposed to and helped each other he was sure nothing THAT terrible could happen. He understood the threat of madness, probably better than most of the people there, but as far as they knew the enemies were completely fightable. If there were no stupid barriers around them the enemies were just things to slice through.
With the village coming into view Dion tried to make what he could of the scene. A large flat circle was a perfect area to fight in, especially for new teams. They couldn’t see any enemies so that meant the houses probably hid them for the moment. The spire of blood in the center was strange but ideal as it meant they wouldn’t have to fight in a near lake of the stuff. As long as they kept some distance between the blood while fighting everyone should have enough resistance naturally to keep themselves sane until it was over.
Everything considered he was pretty calm as they approached the destination. But then why shouldn’t he be? He was a two star now and his last mission was fighting a giant flaming horse! If this was like any other mission they would figure out how to dispatch of the targets quickly enough. As the bus grew close to passing into the village he closed his eyes, planning to relax as much as possible before the bus stopped and the fun started. That was before he heard the cry. Dion’s eyes shot open at the noise as he looked for the source. Sure it was strange and unsettling but it felt familiar and that worried him more.
In the next instant something slammed into the front of the bus and covered the inside with darkness. Whatever it was let no light through and even the light from the back didn’t seem to reach into it. There wasn’t a chance to react when the roof was pierced but thankfully nobody was caught by it. Misaki was too close to it though, whatever it was just became the first thing they had to get rid of. Not giving them the chance to respond though the bus started to shake violently and Dion couldn’t tell if it was being moved or torn apart.
With Misaki’s instructions he quickly put his Incom in his left ear before switching to the driver’s instructions. Hearing the words hold on Dion did the natural thing and stabbed his partial form into the seat while whatever happened. Being on the driver side when the bus turned his hands kept him stable enough to just slam his feet into the window that now acted as the floor. Misaki was right that they had to get out as fast as they could in any way they could.
Not being able to cut through the bus without resonating and wasting energy meant they had to rely on what was already there. Misaki had the right idea with the back exit, that made the most sense for everyone to leave out of. The only issue was if everyone tried to get out from one place single file it might take too long and whatever attacked them might get out. Looking around he spotted the red handle near the back and headed toward it. Walking where he could Dion made it to the back before jumping and climbing up to the exit window. Pulling the lever it came loose but not free, so the only solution was to kick it out while sending himself out the window.
Out of the bus he didn’t waste any time by looking at whatever had attacked them. He made another exit some people might be able to use, as long as they all got out quick it was fine. Even if he had looked at the thing he would need to be with Misaki to do anything so there was no point worrying about it until he was with her. Jumping off the bus he landed away from the exit but close enough to meld back with everyone when they got out. Moving next to Misaki he responded naturally by reaching out a hand toward hers once she was in sight and transformed. Green light enveloping him and changing form to have the three foot spear land in her open hand. Not knowing what would come next it was better to be ready to fight at a moment’s notice.
