In the world of Soul Eater there are multiple levels or classes that a character can be. Here we will try to explain them the best we can.
-NOT Class-
Normally Overcome Target
The beginner class of students. Students in the NOT class are usually meisters or weapons who have little to no control of their abilities and/or no fighting experience. New meisters that have yet to discover soul perception or soul purge and weapons who can not fully transform are sorted into this class. Students here are part of the non-combat division of the school and will be sent on simple task around Death City until they can advance to the combat unit.
-EAT Class-
Especially Advanced Talent
The combat portion of Shibusen. These students are deemed talented enough to be sent out to fight the forces of madness in the world. Once in the EAT class kishin eggs and witches become targets so the students can make a Death Scythe for Shinigami-Sama.
-One Star-
The lowest level of EAT students. Usually made of new students or teams who have advanced through NOT. In the One Star class students are sent all over the world to fight kishin eggs and consume their souls. Even being the lowest level missions can still be incredibly difficult for the inexperienced students. After consuming enough souls and gaining enough power students can be advanced to the Two Star class.
-Two Star-
The middle and main class of EAT. Comprised of the more capable teams of Shibusen Two Star teams are allowed to take more advanced missions than the One Star and NOT classes. When a team has reached Two Star rank they are regarded highly throughout Death City. If a team shows exceptional talent they may even be added to the elite Spartoi to repress the madness kishin eggs and witches spread.
-Spartoi-
While not a class per say Spartoi is the special group of advanced teams that have reached at least Two Star status. Upon entering Spartoi the students are given specialized training to maximize their abilities. Spartoi teams are also allowed to take Three Star missions while being in the Two Star class. Spartoi teams are placed in squads of three teams to help maximize their potential.
-Three Star-
The highest rank of teams in Shibusen. These teams are allowed to take on the most difficult missions and are also closest to making their weapon a Death Scythe. These students are powerful enough to take on level One missions without the need for their partner.
-Death Scythe-
Again not a true class so much as a level of power. After a weapon has consumed ninety-nine kishin egg souls and one witch soul, in that order, they are transformed into a Death Scythe. Upon becoming a Death Scythe the weapon undergoes a few changes from the power gain. They acquire better control of their wavelength from the witch's soul, form manipulation (multiple partial forms), and also may gain special abilities based on the witch's soul that they ate. As a Death Scythe the weapon can be wielded by Shinigami-Sama himself.
